The place was a little confusing to find but as soon as we found it, we were greeted by extremely polite waitresses and we felt at ease. We had brunch and the cocktails were average. The menu choices were diverse. My wife had the banana pancakes which were soft and tasty. We split a egg white frittata which tasted fresh and healthy. My wife and I just ate lunch here for our anniversary. Since we both grew up on the Gulf Coast and the fare here is New Orleans-based, we've wanted to eat here since it opened three years ago. Every bite of everything we ate was very good. My wife said the catfish sandwich was the best she's ever had. She's from Mississippi - she should know what good catfish tastes like. The side of grits was dang near perfect. A simple side of bacon was amazing. A few drops of Tabasco Sauce made my scrambled eggs perfect. My apologies to Marsh House for not stopping by sooner. Best meal I've had in a long time...maybe ever! It is a very reasonably priced menu for the quality of the food. Every dish we ate had a mix of interesting textures and we were so impressed with Chef Vu Vo's flavor choices. We especially loved the Garlic Clove Shrimp and the Squid Ink Creste di Gallo. We had to ask for bread to sop up the sauces because they were so good, and it turned out the bread was fabulous too. Marsh House presents itself as a "Southers Seafood" eatery. However, I Think that could be misleading, especially if you come for Brunch. We weren't famished, so decided to turn three of the Appetizers into a shared "tasting menu." We started with Squash Blosssoms. Neither of us had ever tasted squash blossoms before. Overall it was a delicious and a very thoughtfully composed dish. There were three good sized, cheese-mixture-stuffed and deep-fried blossoms. They were light, delicate and flavorful. However, their goat cheese filling was quite runny and appeared to have curdled just a bit. The blossoms would benefit from an adjustment on the filling recipe to a cheese that holds together (more like one finds in a Mexican Chile Relleno or Swiss Raclette). The blossoms are nestled open a salad bed of zucchini noodles, onion threads and halved heirloom grape tomatoes - all lightly tossed in a bright and piquant vinaigrette. Except for the cheese texture stumble, this could be a signature money dish.) Then came a shared bowl of the Serafood and Andouille Gumbo. This is New Orleans style, featuring a richly satisfying soup made from a chocolate brown roux. However, it lacked the heat and complexity of flavors one normally associates with Nawlins Gumbo. In our opinion, while the shrimp and andouille sausage were both tasty, both were in relatively scant supply. A $13 serving of Gumbo deserves as much solid seafood and sausage in the bowl as there is okra. Okra was tender and tasty. The final shared course was Alabama Blue Crab FIngers. The dish was flavorful, but again, a tad on the stingy side, portion-wise. Plus it was a wee bit of a mystery to us. Perhaps it should be described as a Thai preparation or Sweet Chili Crab Claws. The claws are steamed, cracked and chilled for you and then served in a Thai sweet chili dipping sauce and garnished with chopped peanuts. Just a little off for a "Southern Seafood" cuisine identity. Nothing really won our hearts or would irresistibly draw us back again. I wish there were a two and one-half star rating option. WIne list is above average in interesting content and, while not a bargain, is reasonably priced. We sat at the bar and had excellent service from Aaron (very affable, prompt, helpful). read more

My friends and I were visiting Nashville for Thanksgiving holiday weekend and decided to have Thanksgiving dinner here. I am so glad we did, because it was excellent! Everything from the service and ambience to the food was perfect! We had reservations, but there was a bit of a wait for a table so the staff directed us to the crowded bar area. Unfortunately, there was a drunk guy beside us who kept making unsolicited remarks to my friend and I. The bartender made some great drinks for us while the manager stepped in to intervene with the rude drunkard (lol)! They also made it up to us in a big way for the wait and discomfort. Once we were seated, the real fun began! Some of the items on the holiday dinner menu are on the regular menu, like the brussel sprouts, gumbo, shrimp toast, steak, and cheesecake. Cute spot for dinner night out with friends or a date! This is located in the Thompson. The atmosphere is great and lively! Probably one of the best spots I've been to in Nash for oysters with a good variety of west/east/gulf coast. I would recommend the Grouper or anything seafood! The duck was good, but not the best I've had, not as tender as I'd prefer and the skin not as crispy as I'd like. The tuna tartare was good and super fresh, but not as dressed as I'm used to. When you bring out a seafood tower with multiple items on it, it's customary to explain each item in depth. It happened to us and the group next to us so I know it wasn't just us. Spent a lovely few hours at the Marsh house today....the decor is super cool Art Deco...spectacular teal green ceiling...great fixtures. acoustics were perfect...it's a big open space. Our server was attentive, conversational and seemed genuinely interested in providing excellent service with a laid back style. The Gumbo is phenomenal-supposedly chef's Grandma's recipe. This place was amazing, went for my birthday dinner! We had Bailee as our server who was so attentive and nice! We ordered a bottle of wine and someone came by to present it and was so knowledgeable and definitely an expert! I got a dozen oysters and we also had scallops then had black noodles underneath (I am going to have to try to replicate this dish at home it was delicious). As far as side we got some for the table, hush puppies and Brussels and a kale Caesar salad. If you order anything you have to get the Brussel sprouts they were unlike any I have ever had, our table was fighting for them! Also the kale Caesar salad was a huge portion!! Went here for a long awaited dinner with distant friends in town for a visit, and the Marsh House left us feeling disappointed and taken advantage of. The setting is aestheticly pleasing, the decor of blue and stone counters, and lighting are spot on making for a pleasing dinner on their own. However the ambiance was that of a bustling bar with a very loud overall volume not conducive to talking to anyone, let alone hearing your own thoughts. And maybe it was some left out food, but the place reeked of bad balsamic vinegar or something similarly vulgar. Our service was fine and professional, and accommodating to my complaint about my entree. However this is a restaurant, not a seedy bar, and dinner for two is over $100 with one drink and tip. We were given a couple of "gifts from the kitchen" such as oyster shooters, and a cornbread item. The latter was good, and I'd likely eat it again. However the oyster shooters were an oyster half shell on top of a large bed of sea salt with each miniature plate, and the oyster meat replaced with a sparse display of supposedly lemon-flavored gelatin cubes and fish eggs. All I could taste was salt. A truly awful dish reeking of someone putting presentation before the food. The BBQ shrimp were good, but a bit lacking in flavor. Not sure why so much chicken was included. Our tuna tartare was good at first, but a bite of a different area of the portion made me gag from an off flavor and I felt like throwing up. No idea what it was. My entree in particular was a joke. I ordered the mussels with pomme frites. The picture is all you need to see really. With most shells empty and I only counted 11 pieces of actual meat, the remaining blunder they called pomme frites and chorizo broth was terrible. It tasted like someone cooked an ounce of chorizo in beef broth, strained it, and threw back a couple pea sized pieces of chorizo into the bowl. Then topped with a sparse array of mussels and covered with a garnish amount of the worst "fries" I've ever had. Even the table near me exclaimed to the waiter these were not fries as the poor soul shared my misfortune in selecting this dish as well. All for $26. Despicable. My girlfriend ordered a duck confit as the rabbit was unavailable, and while it had great flavor in the noodles, it was just flavored noodles with little to no meat nor mushrooms as described. Swing and a miss. Oh and $26 too. A drink we got to try was a beer lemonade thing. Tasted like Corona in a small Sonic lemon slushy. Not sure why it's even on the menu. Just an awful meal and for a total of $120 with tip (which was quite good as deserved since its not waiters fault for food being bad), I'd never recommend this restaurant. read more

In a city with so many good food choices, The Marsh badly needs to up their game. While the atmosphere is nice and the staff is friendly, the food is lacking. This is the second time I have eaten here and I was disappointed both times. The only item on the menu that I enjoyed was the stuffed squash blossoms, but there are only three small blossoms on the plate and $14 is steep for this item. The Caesar salad with chicken was $22 and was basic and sad. The menu has a nice variety to choose from but both my husband and I agree that the food is average at best and it is overpriced. We consider ourselves foodies and eat out very often. The Marsh is simply not up to par with our Nashville favorites. read more

John Besh is one of my chef heroes - if you have been to Restaurant August in NOLA then you already know why. He has knocked my socks off in the past and I just knew he would do it here too. The first time I came here was right when they first opened where they had a Thanksgiving menu for Thanksgiving Day. It was a set menu and everything was awesome. There was even a menu of special drinks for the occasion. BUT I went back...for BREAKFAST. Since it is in a hotel, there's breakfast. And I was dying to try one specific thing on the menu so I made a work meeting happen there. And by work meeting I mean I took my student out to eat but, instead of the usual lunch, I made him go to breakfast. I also told him what to order based on what else I wanted to try...but who can blame me. So I got the Joyce Farm's Korean Fried Chicken and brown butter waffles, chili, and cane syrup glaze. GAAAAAHHHHHHH. Yes, I have been dying for this. Now, while it wasn't spicy like I kind of thought it might be, it was flavorful and the Korean flavors really worked with the waffles and the syrup (which I used LIBERALLY). I had my student get the steak and eggs with crispy potatoes and chimichurri. This was also awesome and was a very hearty meal. This is on top of the skillet of biscuits (which really was just 2 big biscuits) and the side of bacon we got. Everything tasted fresh and was cooked perfectly. And the coffee was on point. I made reservations for breakfast, but it was fairly empty on a weekday at 730am so I think you could probably just walk in if you wanted. Give this place a try for breakfast! read more

OKAY. I don't even know where to start as I begin writing this review. Let me start by saying the food and service was EXCEPTIONAL. My best friend and I were staying at The Thompson for a girl's weekend and came across Marsh House as one of the best restaurants in the city and knew we had to try it. We had an early dinner reservation and after being seated, we were greeted by Tree. Let me tell you, this woman is one BOSS BABE. I ditched booze recently (for personal reasons I'm sure you can figure out) and she made the experience SO FUN for me sans alcohol. I was feeling uneasy about going to a nice restaurant without ordering a fancy cocktail and as soon as I mentioned I don't drink but still wanted a spirit-free beverage she was more than accommodating. She joked back and said, "Oh, for when you don't want to have a billion soda waters with lime or a diet coke in Nashville?" We all laughed and I instantly felt comfortable. She brought out a "feaux-jito" and it tasted just like the real thing. I felt so special! Fast forward to ordering our meal and we wanted EVERYTHING. Tree took us through the menu and made excellent recommendations. We got the Tuna Orechiette and Scallops with the crispy red potatoes, brussel sprouts & cauliflower. My mouth is watering as I type this - I live in Chicago and have been to many amazing restaurants but this by FAR was one of my favorite meals of all time. From our server being so incredibly kind, funny and considerate, to the incredible food we ate, to the ambiance and aesthetic the gorgeous restaurant provided - this is an experience I will NEVER forget! A lot has changed in Nashville since I last visited this beautiful city four years ago. In particular, the Gulch is built up with multifamily and retail space everywhere. Marsh House is housed (lol) in an upscale hotel. When you walk in, you notice expensive looking decor and high ceilings. Unfortunately, the restaurant is so poorly lit, which makes it hard to converse about with your table since you can't see them. I really appreciated the menu, though it was sort of a mish-mosh of random dishes. We started off with some cornbread for the table, which was a nice touch. For my appetizer, I had the barbecued shrimp with grilled bread. My entree was a rabbit pappardelle dish, which was amazing. I recommend coming here for a well-executed contemporary American restaurant. read more

Our waiter was very pleasant and very knowledgeable of the menu and its item (the menu is a little hard read). We ordered the Gumbo for an appetizer, which was really good. I ordered the Lamb Chops and they were cooked to perfection. My boyfriend ordered a cocktail and he said it was......strong. Will return to this gem of restaurant. read more

I would give this 5-stars based on the cornbread alone. It was easily the most delicious cornbread I have ever had. Aside from that, all of the dishes we ordered were fantastic.
