    Roy H.

When I was thirteen, in order to avoid being labeled a "loser" at school, it was necessary to keep up with the "cool" kids and dress accordingly. What was the most important accessory to a middle school boy back then? Sneakers, of course, not just any sneakers...expensive, leather ones. They were the envy of every boy in school. My parents refused to pay top dollar for all those new-fangled, fancy-shmancy leather sneakers that all of my "supposed" friends were wearing. Wisely, Mom and Dad were not compelled by my desparate pleas for conformity and acceptance among my peers. So, what was I to do? I never had enough money saved up from my paper route to afford the sneakers of my dreams. I remember it like it was yesterday. Riding around town on my moped, I passed a big, new store that had just opened. The name on the building was "Marshall's". I wasn't sure what kind of store it was until I saw their TV ad. I knew it must have been a special store, because their slogan was "name brands for less", I knew that I had to check it out for myself. Would my sneaker dreams finally come true? When I entered that new Marshall's, I thought to myself, "what am I doing in this clothing store?" But, I didn't give up. I walked around and finally found the shoe section. Rack after rack of shoes stacked to the ceiling filled the aisles. I didn't know where to begin. Then, as I turned the final corner, there it was...NIRVANA! All the new-fangled, fancy-shmancy leather sneakers a boy could ever ask for...all marked down to half the regular retail price! Shazaam...I found it! That was the day that I finally got my first pair of "expensive" sneakers. They were a pair of white leather Pumas. Boy, were they nice! I couldn't wait to show them off at school the next day. The best part is that I didn't pay as much as my "cool" friends paid for them and more importantly, I impressed my parents with my shrewd purchase. I felt great! Today, I still feel great buying my sneakers at Marshall's. They've remained true to their original slogan..."name brands for less". Not only do I still buy all of my sneakers at Marshall's, I buy a lot of other things as well like ties, belts, shirts and more. My latest purchase was a brand new Van Heusen dress shirt for only $7.99. What a deal! (or should I say "what a steal") Boy, that made me feel great. There's nothing like a good bargain! Whatever you choose at Marshall's, you know that you're going to get a good price. They may not have everything you like or need, but they always have bargains to help you save money. I can't stand paying full price on retail clothing. If you feel the same way, get over to Marshall's today. Start impressing your friends like I do. I recommend the white leather Pumas. :)

THE WORST customer service ever. Manager, or whoever she was, was rude and unprofessional. Never again I'm stepping my foot in that place.

Sometimes it is hit or miss in terms of the good deals on shoes & clothes, but usually their clearance is good stuff.

So it's super easy to compare selection and prices. Also have SteinMart, Marshalls, and then the entire Easton shopping area. And then 2 Goodwill stores on the other end of the spectrum. That being said, I had come straight from a Clothes Mentor where they had a 30% off spring/summer selection (like all of it). Style Encore didn't have anything like this - but they do have clearance items within each article's area. 70% off those clearance things - so great deals if they have anything you like. What I saw were mostly items that made me ask myself - really? Some designer thought this was a good idea?? I was looking for shoes (tennies and heels) as well as jackets and blouses. I tried on one pair of heels - but one foot in let me know right away - NOOOO! The price was a little high for that pair, but they looked brand new. Looking at the tennies, they were all over-priced. I didn't even look at sizes as I wouldn't pay those prices. I didn't really look at much else. I think I was done shopping at this point. The location is great for me - right next to the Dollar Tree and near SteinMart, too. Not too bad to get to traffic wise - it's a the intersection where going a couple direction - things get dicey. The shop itself is a little small. I think they might have one fitting room - where Clothes Mentor has lots more space and several rooms. I don't shop here too often as I really have to be in the mood to shop or looking for something in particular. I really should stop in more often . . .

The lady behind the counter was very nice and with the help of a male coworker quickly went through 4 tubs of clothing only to make an offer on 1 pair of unworn shoes with tags and in the original box. The offer? $3. My wife looked around and passed on the offer and the few nice shirts she tried on. It seems like they get some nice clothes in here and they are priced well but they probably won't take anything you sell unless it's name brand or it's brand new. The other things that led me to write a 2 star review are this: mediocre playlist that gets interrupted after EVERY song to play a commercial for the store which specifically states "a store by women for women." Then why does a man work here and also determine which clothes to buy? Next up is the nauseating air freshener aroma. Too much! If you must come here, be prepared with headphones and nose plugs.

I wish Yelp did half stars. This was a 3.5 star visit. Lets start with the pros: The store was immaculate. There was a ton of stock considering its a week from Christmas. Talbots lately always has a sale. I got a 89 sweater for my mom for 35 bucks. The clerk in petites was excellent. Check out was flawless What I didn't like was another sales clerk who greeted me was awkward and followed me around to the point it was uncomfortable I felt like she thought I had sticky fingers. However, I think she is new so I didnt complain.

It got to the point where I just didn't make a purchase cause it may be very uncomfortable. Second time I came to the store, probably about four months later, waiting for an appointment across the street, I thought I come and give them another chance and just browse around. This time when I walk in the store, for a while, I was not acknowledged, which is fine. However, the very first time I was even acknowledged, while only having two items in my hand, instead of saying hello she immediately asked me if I want a fitting room. Her whole energy seemed like she was very worried about me stealing something, which is probably why she asked if I wanted a fitting room. I don't think she was genuine. You can tell the difference between genuine kindness and prejudice. There was a sweater I was going to buy, but then after dealing with that, I figured they don't deserve my patronage. Never again!!! I should've learned my lesson the first time. When I called Customer Service to complain, they were as useless as a wet stamp, so it's just not worth it. Just don't stop while you are a minority and you'll be fine. The funny thing is that my AGI last year was over $113,000, so if I don't need to steal a $100 polyester cotton sweater, when I bought a pair of $1200+ Louboutin sneakers at Bergdolf Goodman! At Saks Fifth Avenue, I buy Creed perfume Carmina for over $400! Try again, ignorant one! Macy's is a much better store and is more family friendly.
