Not sure what all the negative reviews are about. I've been patronizing this business for four years now, and am highly pleased with their work. It's a dry cleaner, not the Marriot. I come here because they clean my vintage clothes, wool jackets, and men's suits flawlessly. I took a faux fur jacket to a different cleaner in the past, and they burned it; I had to give up that jacket and was so disappointed. I brought another faux fur item here with trepidation. Not only was it thoroughly cleaned, it was beautifully brushed into the correct shape. I was amazed!! They clean my vintage wool items with great care. I will always bring my dry cleaning here as long as I live in San Diego County, and they may cost a little more, but I am definitely getting what I'm paying for. And if you want someone to pat you on the head and tell you how nice you are, go to a therapist, not a dry cleaner. Come here if you want a good job on your special garments! read more

After years of receiving an attitude by the staff I am officially done. Every single time I've gone in to use their services I have been met with a curt and dismissive attitude. I don't understand what the issue is, and I don't care anymore. Today I told the employee (older woman with brown hair), exactly what I just said. Every time I come in here (or call to see if someone's there) I feel like I'm an imposition. Now, she did act sort of surprised, but I find it hard to believe that she's been complimented on her "sunny disposition." I'm taking my business elsewhere. read more

Took my suit and shirt along with my Wife and Daughter's formal dresses after a wedding here for cleaning. Great customer service and superb cleaning. Everything looks perfect. They do all their own cleaning onsite which is rare these days. Great prices and very nice staff. This place has been around for decades and they do quality work. We will be back for sure read more

Horrible customer service. Never got a call that our Jerseys were "finished" realized I never got a receipt and wanted to let them know my husband would be picking up... so I called and she said they needed us to sign a waiver to dry clean the jersey more.. really? No call, nothing! then she was extremely rude at pickup. Not even going to share what her rude remark was but did not get the job done. Did not have jerseys cleaned for event. Could have washed them at home. Really wanted to like and support this place but customer service is important for me. read more

I brought two worn coveralls to have the work patches removed and and sewn onto two new coveralls and told her launder the old worn pair since they were dirty she charged 19$ for cleaning and press on the one coveralls set ? Said laundry is for socks & underwear & towels and that's her price ! Hell I only paid 40$ for the pair when new. From the moment I walked in the door, the lady at the counter seemed bothered I was even there, and abrupt. There was a question if they could clean a rug I brought in, she claimed the owner would call me, that did not happen. After a 2 days I called back, she acted oblivious. Then proceeded to tell me it would take quite a while for my bedspread, and two rugs to be cleaned (apparently no problem with the rugs). I let her know I was not in a hurry. She stated she would call me when it was ready. After at least a week and a half had gone by with no call, so I called them. She seemed oblivious again, said they had been ready. Not sure why I didn't get a call as she had stated she would. She was completely clueless, and rude. I read another reviews and it seems almost the identical situation. I would not use their business based on the attitude of their clerk. It's unfortunate for the owner, unless she is the owner. I drive by there all the time and I know they've been there a long time. Randomly stopped by when I realized it had been a while and the lady goes " oh yah it's done" I'm like did you call me? " she goes I don't know the answer to that... m'am, do you work there? I'm not one to take things back. I usually just count it as a loss and move on but when your work insists you take your uniform back to be fixed then your pretty much obligated to. I dropped my uniform off to be altered and was told they send them out and would be ready in a week. The guy I talked to was really nice even when I picked it up. I didn't even notice it at first when I put on my uniform and went to work but my boss pointed out to me that my pants legs were uneven. They had felt kind of funny but when you have them on its kind of hard to notice. So he took a picture and showed me. Yep they were uneven alright. Then my coat sleeves were not cut straight at the end. So I went back and was sent directly to the alterations place to have it fixed because the lady at the cleaners pointed out that I was right and wanted the alterations place to fix it. While at the alterations place, the lady asked me if I was uneven? And if that was possibly the reason for the uneven pant legs. I've never thought of myself as uneven so I put on the pants. Nope, I'm perfectly straight. So she said she would fix them. But that they were even and that she did nothing wrong. Then with the coat sleeves apparently that's how they were suppose to be, uneven. So I expressed I wanted them straight. She said she would fix it without charging me......thanks? Along with getting these things altered I got a dress too and paid $97. So I had never been to this establishment before but I am what's known as sneaker head and I take really good care of my shoes and I've always had issues with certain types of white shoes being able to get cleaned and I had heard that dry cleaners could clean shoes so I looked around and after searching thoroughly I found this wonderful family owned business that has been in business 77 years And I honestly can see why because not only did they fulfill my needs but I was extremely pleased with the outcome from the greeting I got from first walking into the door to the farewell as I left a very happy and now a lifelong customer. I was only able to give this five stars but if I could give it anymore I would because they deserve it and as I said I can see why they've been in business for so long because they do great business and they made me feel like I was already a customer that I've been there many times before but they have no worries because I will definitely back I got plenty of shoes that need to be cleaned! :D read more

I called Mart Cleaners on a Saturday afternoon, a half hour before they closed for the day, with a MAJOR pet stain on my king sized pillow top mattress cover. I made it in time before they closed and was greeted by a very nice guy at the front desk who immediately reassured me they could clean the mattress cover. The very expensive soiled mattress cover was so severe I thought for sure it was unsalvageable. A week later I picked up the item and was thrilled at how they were able to take on such a terrible task. The customer service is great here. The people are very friendly and the turnaround is quick, which is very attractive. However, walking in the door, I see a sign spotted on the back wall that states they use chemicals that are known to cause cancer. Thank you, but this will be the last time I go here, unless they offer a service that does not use these chemicals. Also, I needed a suit altered for a wedding (within 2 days) and they referred me to their source who is also in La Mesa. Needless to say I drove to this "source" and spent $105 for a few minor alterations and when I went to put my suit on at home before my event, I was pissed that it still fit me exactly the same as before. Looking at the stitching, my wife and I wondered if she did anything at all? I would not recommend their alterations if this is who they're sending it out to. read more

I would be fine with the $7.50 per shirt if they did a better job than the place next door that's $4.15 per shirt. They don't. And when I politely asked them about the creases in my shirt from pressing (the same thing I asked them if they could avoid when I brought the shirts) the response was "I don't know. I don't press clothes". I then politely asked if the indeed did the pressing in house and the answer was yes, "but I don't know how hey do it". The lady's attitude was as if I offended her by asking. What a rip off! How is this place still in business? I was charged $9.75 to clean one sweater. My jaw about dropped to the floor when I heard this. The lady was totally indignant when I questioned the price--she said it's because it has rhinestones...rhinestones on my acrylic sweater???...whatever lady. I've had a lot of clothes cleaned in the past, and everywhere I've been, the clerk has always written down the item, the amount, and the price. No such thing at Mart Cleaners. It was weird that when I dropped off my sweater I had to ask them for a ticket/ receipt of drop off for me to keep until I picked it up. This isn't something they automatically provide and I thought it was odd, as there would have been no proof that I had even dropped my sweater off if they had mishandled or lost it. I didn't think it would also be a deceptive way of over charging a customer. Lesson learned...this place doesn't deserve customers and I certainly won't be duped by them again. I have been going to Mart Cleaners in La Mesa for over 30 years. Each time I walk in the building, I am greeted with a "hello!" and a smile from one of the wonderful family members who work there, and they always remember my name. I have ALWAYS been impressed with the individual personal service and caring of the employees and the way my family's clothes look after they have been cleaned and pressed, never once being disappointed in over 30 years. They offer a "claim ticket" each time I drop something off, but I never take them up on the offer. I know my garments will be safe and secure because they never leave the building (they are cleaned onsite by seasoned professionals), and I have never been let down in this regard. I have only written a few other Yelp reviews (many years ago), but I just had to write today to let everyone know how extremely amazing my recent experience was. My daughter is getting married this month, and as part of her dress, she is using the train from my (very) old wedding gown that was not cleaned after my wedding back in the '80s. I didn't expect it to clean-up all that well, but I hoped for the best. As soon as I walked in, Jackie was on the case. She went through the train's material and lace meticulously, looking for areas on which to concentrate their cleaning efforts. The quality control at Mart Cleaners is top tier. I am rather picky, so it was a thrill to see someone who wanted my daughter's dress to turn out as well as I wanted it to turn out! And it was a huge success! The train turned out perfectly!! Really. Like brand new! And I didn't worry for one second that the precious garment would be lost, misplaced, or damaged because I trust Mart Cleaners to do an exceptional job.....but I have to say I was speechless at how well the train turned out. So, THANK YOU, Mart Cleaners, for helping to make my daughter's wedding day special. Good, competent,honest and professional are all qualities found at Mart Cleaners. I have never written a review before,but have felt moved by the people and experience I had at Mart. I am not a regular at any cleaners , but first met this family when I brought in my mom's 50 year old wedding dress to be cleaned. They did a fantastic job and the price was very reasonable. I have since had my sons Navy uniforms cleaned and pressed when he is in town. Again, the work was excellent, the staff(Alex) very friendly and knowledgeable. Just the other day I took the dress my daughter was planning to wear for her wedding. It was new with tags still attached. It looked a bit discolored and I wanted it to be perfect. The cleaners steamed the dress and noticed it was falling apart at the seams. I was notified and realized I had been sold a flawed dressed. Jackie called the dress shop on my behalf. I tried to take it back to the dress shop, they did not do the right thing. No return/ no exchange. Jackie knew the importance of the dress to me and my daughter. Without me knowing she called the store again and bought my daughter a brand new dress. She paid for it and had it in her shop within hours. I was sold a bad product from another business. But because it was in her shop when the flaw was noticed Jackie went above and beyond to make things right. I will return to Mart Cleaners to have my clothes taken care of and to see Jackie and her friendly staff. I shall not return to the shop from which the dress came. This business has NO COMPASSION, to admitting --- of my personal clothing that it not had. When I came to (want to) pick it up. As they not had it. The person I spoke to, immediately remembered me & of my item --- what "MART" 'lost.' What may add to that, is that my item may have been sold to another customer. How do I say that? Terrible customer service, deceptive practices, and will not reimburse for damages. A friend that is not a Yelp user, asked me to submit a review of this cleaner because of his terrible experience. My friend is a Merchant Marine Captain that does offshore boat deliveries. My friend brought in his foul weather jacket into Mart Cleaners for cleaning and minor alterations. The jacket was lightly soiled from normal use, but because it was an expensive foul-weather jacket and was one of the essential "tools of his trade", he asked whether they had experience cleaning this type of jacket. The owner's daughter was working the counter, and she brought her father (the owner) out to inspect the jacket; at which point, they assured him that they had lots of experience and knew how to clean this type of gear. They discussed the modifications to the weather flap covering the front zipper, and my friend was satisfied that they understood what was necessary. However, when my friend arrived to pick up his jacket, he discovered that their cleaning process had ruined the jacket. The interior membrane of the Gill jacket had shrunk and become brittle. Yes, the jacket looked clean, but the jacket had shrunk about 25% and no longer fit, the inside liner had multiple tears and it sounded like someone was crushing a plastic water bottle, and all of the water repellent properties of the jacket had been destroyed. His $350 foul weather jacket was destroyed. Mart Cleaners had apparently recognized that the jacket had been ruined because they had not even bothered to send it out for the alterations. Alterations are not done in-house. However, the cleaning process is done on-site, so the damage done to the jacket was entirely the fault of this business. The owners were not in that day, so the employees working that day suggested that my friend return another day to discuss possible restitution with the owners. My friend assumed that since the business boasted that they had been in business since 1947, that the owners must know how to keep customers satisfied. My friend expected that they would offer to reimburse him for the cost of a replacement. However, when he returned and spoke with the daughter of the owner, she blamed the damage on the fact that the jacket did not include a tag with instructions for cleaning. Both she and the owner had assured him that they knew how to clean this type of jacket, and when my friend pointed that out, she insisted that the damage occurred only because of the jacket didn't have a tag with cleaning instructions. When my friend asked for restitution, she only offered 25% of the replacement cost, and she would only reimburse even that amount if my friend brought in the replacement jacket and receipt; my friend thought this was unacceptable because although the jacket was used, it was still in good condition. My friend visited West Marine and xeroxed all of the information regarding this model jacket including price tags. When he returned and presented this information to the owner's daughter, she responded with a snippy, "What do you want me to do about it?" His response was, "Reimburse me or provide me with a comparable replacement jacket." At which time she replied, "We won't do that it was a used jacket." My friend indicated that was unacceptable, so at that point she brought her father into the conversation, and they increased the offer to $100, again with the caveat that he must bring in the replacement with a receipt. This meager offer would not make him "whole", and the owners did not care that they had ruined a piece of gear that was essential to his work. The daughter was particularly rude about it. My friend left to consider his options. He was seriously considering taking them to small claims court, but he eventually decided he wanted nothing to do with these people. I finally went in on his behalf with the jacket he bought to replace the one ruined by these people. They did give me the $100 that they had offered after I showed them the bill of sale for the new jacket, but they were not gracious about it. Plus the woman made at least two more snide comments during the exchange. I saw that another reviewer had a similar bad experience when these people ruined an expensive leather purse brought in for cleaning. Stay away if you expect a business to stand behind their work! read more
