We used Martel through a service provider Our furnace kept just randomly shutting down several times a week. They sent three different people three different times including the service manager (who came on the last visit). Each time, they couldn't figure out what was wrong. The service manager just kept harping on the fact that the furnace was old. Unfortunately, it just seemed that none of them knew what they were doing, and there definitely wasn't any communication between them. Their ultimate diagnosis? The furnace is too old, it's too difficult to find parts for it, so the whole furnace needs to be replaced. That would run us about $15,000 to $20,000 We demanded a second opinion, and the service provider agreed We had a local master plumber come out, who's been in business for decades. He said the furnace is fine. He urged us not to replace it. He said he believed the furnace could easily last another 25 years. He said parts are easy to get for this kind of furnace (even though it is old), which contradicts what the Martel service manager said. And he said the furnace would need to be replaced only if it leaked water (which was not happening). The diagnosis? The gas valve needed to be replaced, and it was easy to find and easy to do. Go figure! To anyone reading, would you want these people working on your furnace? You decide! So Martel accomplished absolutely nothing and charged the service provider for 3 visits (which is likely going to get passed on to us in some way, since the service provider has limits on what it will cover). And then we have to go through the headache of paying the plumber and getting reimbursed from the service provider. Martel, if you had just done the job right from the start, not only would you have gotten paid, you would've gotten credit for a job well-done and you would've likely legitimately made even more money, instead of bringing all these unnecessary headaches on us, not to mention that it has taken about 6 weeks to resolve this, when it all could've been resolved in two days If I could give zero stars, I would. read more

Our boiler is now fixed and working great! Our technicians Vlad and Nick were professional, communicative, and extremely nice laid back guys. They made us feel very comfortable while they were working in our home. Anita and (I think) Grace in the office were always helpful and understanding when I called in. It was great to have real people on the line instead of AI chatbots too! Note: copper pipe parts did seem to be expensive, but I don't really know what the average prices for those parts are. read more

Not trustworthy as they mark up their part prices by over 2x without telling you. They installed a heater pump for me, which the manufacturer sells online new with 1y warranty for $234. They charged me $684 for it. The extra cost in their explanation was that they cover the warranty and replacement for up to 1y. But since the part is actually already under manufacturer warranty, they are essentially charging me EXTRA $450 for service they might never need to do. Mind you, that service charge for replacing the pump on my invoice was just $300. So they are essentially charging more than that whole amount of service just in case they need to come out in the next year to replace the pump. They did not agree to remove that charge / potential service from my invoice despite multiple calls. So that is how they find a way to double their hourly rates. They sneak it into bogus part markups of %200 or more. Do not do business with these guys unless they first itemize everything they will charge you for, and you spend the time online researching cost of parts. read more

This company does not stand by their work. We just bought a house, and the central air didn't pass inspection. The sellers hired Martel in mid-June and they claimed they fixed it, but when we closed on the house last week the AC was still not functioning properly. Called and they said the warranty was voided when we took ownership of the property. So they will not stand by their shoddy work ($2,300 worth!) less than 2 months later, from a system that was turned off (house was vacant) since they "fixed it." This past winter, and with an extreme temperature drop, I had an issue with a pipe in the basement. This was the first time we had used the company and thought they were incredible to work with.. The office was so easy/friendly and they immediately scheduled an appointment to have the issue resolved. Rob came out and took one look and knew exactly what needed to be done. He repaired the pipe and everything has been great since. I truly enjoyed working with this company and will call them for further needs in the future. I thought the price was very reasonable. After the first few cold nights in October our heating system failed. We called Martel HVAC at 9 AM and they had a crew at our house by lunchtime. They quickly diagnosed the problem to be a faulty pressure switch. This is not a common issue and is not something that is stocked "on the truck" however they expedited the part and promptly returned and replaced it. Heat is up and running again. I can't say enough about the Martel team. They were prompt and courteous. They offered to wear booties in the house to not track any dirt in. They are a fairly big operation but we actually got a follow up call from the owner to make sure everything was working OK and that that we were satisfied with their response. These guys are very sleazy. They came to my house to fix a heating problem, it turned out I needed a blower (fan) motor, a common issue. The estimate they gave me only had one line item, which was a total for parts and labor, over $1200. Unfortunately I did not know what what a reasonable cost should be so I agreed to it. Once you agree to pay the estimate you have no legal recourse. I have since chatted with 3 other HVAC technicians in different companies, all of which told me that $800 is the going rate for this issue. I had one of them get the part costs, which was under $400. This was verified with an HVAC tech that made the phone call in front of me. Martel charged almost $800 for the parts, double what the actual cost of the parts were. And they charged $400 for service. Totally outrageous. The labor was about 1.5 hours. I called Martel the next day and asked for a breakdown of parts and labor, the initially told me they didn't have it until I asked them how they did an estimate. Real d-bags. Stay far, far away. They wouldn't even tell me what brand of part was installed. read more

After repeated attempts to communicate about a workmanship issue the owner refuses to acknowledge wrong doing on behalf of his employee putting a plumbing pipe in an outside wall and not insulating it at all . While I value Yelp reviews, I do not often post here. That being said, my terrible experience with Martel should be known by others. The fan to my furnace needed to be replaced and Martel installed / maintained the unit for the previous owner. I had installed an expensive air ionizer during the start of COVID. Shame on me for not checking to see if the air ionizer was there after the Martel employee serviced the furnace. A couple months later when I was going to change the air filter, I found that the air ionizer ($750) was no longer there. As context, it's installed with heavy duty magnets and plug into the motherboard of the air handler... this isn't something that can get up and walk away. When I called Martel to inform them, their only response was, "the technician no longer works here, there is nothing we can do." Absolutely unbelievable. Poor customer service and shady technicians. If you use them, make sure you pull up a seat and watch them while they work. read more

Was contracted through American Home Solutions. Told my 75 year old mother that if she wanted them to come out it would be an extra $250 out of pocket. They then set an appointment and no showed her. The experience I had with Martel, I would not wish it on my worst enemy. I have been dealing with Martel for over a month. I kept making appointments with them to fix my Home Heating system. Their technician never shows up, his name is Anthony. He tells his company that when he comes, I don't come to the door, and don't answer my phone. This is not true; he refuses to call my phone number although he has it. I called Martel one day after Anthony's final missed appointment. The receptionist was very unprofessional, she said in a sarcastic manner, " Why don't you call a new Company". This company is a scam! Called them for mulfunctioning AC. Charged me $485 per hour without disclosing the fee ahead. If you are going to charge that much, at least let the customer know so they shop around. Ridiculous charges: $485/hour for a no AC service call $185 for a ~$12 capacitor - I know because I replaced it on the other unit a few years back. I just was not home, I could have done it myself. Incompetent Technicians: Tripped GFCI switch and left it tripped - led to a small flooding around unit. Called the technician and he says the pump needs replacement! Left AC unit on 3 legs and loose screws all around. They also told me my blower motor needed replacement. I am looking at it and I cannot see what was replaced. I had a nozzle blow on my water heater today. I called 23 plumbers and Martel was only one of a few who answered the phone but also the only company that would show up after hours to do a repair. Took less than an hour for them to show up which for a Saturday afternoon is fantastic. I thought it was a huge problem but once Jake checked it out it ended up being a quick repair. He also showed me how to turn of the main water and gas since I just purchased the house. He was not only knowledgeable but also extremely professional and friendly. As a mom home alone with my child, I felt very comfortable with him in my home. I will definitely be using Martel in the future. Thank you Jake!!!! read more

(Martel HVAC & Pivotal are a scam that work together on taking your money) Told me that I had an old boiler (18-years old) and that it was hard to find parts. Tried to sell me on Pivotal not approving "universal" parts. (The parts listed in my boiler manual where fully available online as the original parts....also, the universal part was made be Honeywell, which makes the original part. it's the same part for the size across other models) Martel told Pivotal that so they would agree with them to suggest that I replace my boiler and lucky me Pivotal would pay $400.....Martel, would make thousands $$$$ off of me. I saw that I was being scammed by Martel & Pivotal taking my money to tell me that they don't approve "universal parts". I called another HVAC contractor in Framingham and they came out and told me that they could get that part if I needed it. All they did is CLEANED THE BOILER FLAME SENSOR AND I PAID FOR THE $130 SERVICE CALL AND I HAD HEAT!!!!!!!!!!!! After 1-month of the run around by Martel....i just needed the flame sensor cleaned! My older parents are currently using this company to service their heating system via a pre-paid maintenance contract. They loss their heat on a Thursday during the winter and Martel came to the home that day and diagnosed the problem and told them they need two special order parts but they could have them on either Friday or Saturday. My parents never heard back from Martel and are now not returning their calls and they still have no heat 4 days later. They have now called another vendor who is addressing the issue and have indicated that Martel told them they need more parts then required to fix the problem. He was professional and according to my husband "knew his stuff". He fixed what needed to be fixed for so we could have Holiday Heat and recommended items that should be addressed after the new year. Read a few of the comments, and I see a pattern. I too was told that my old gas boiler was in imminent threat of failure, and needed replacing immediately. 12 grand. Tech also forgot to switch the gas from "pilot" to "on" after servicing, so there's that. Called a better plumber, who said they were just trying to sell a system. Gave me a tour of the boiler, explained what the parts did, what happens when they fail, and when they need replacing. And didn't charge for the visit. Martel HVAC had been my company's primary HVAC contractor for several years. During that time they performed routine maintenance, emergency repairs and a cold room installation. My experience with Tim Martel began when I had him come in to quote a new cold room project. While we were discussing the scope of the project, Tim did not take any notes and told me the project would be no problem. I requested 4 different quotes in different cold room configurations. Tim got back to me with one quote, which included incorrect cold room dimensions and a price that was 50% higher than that quoted by another HVAC contractor. When I asked Tim about these inconsistencies, he was rude and claimed he "gave me everything I had asked for and more", then suggested that I didn't know what I was talking about. Based upon that experience, we decided to drop Martel HVAC entirely and found another HVAC contractor for our business. We had this contractor inspect all of our HVAC systems and several faults (broken cooling fan, compressor leaks, worn out bushings) were found that Martel HVAC had missed or ignored. The largest fault found was a cracked heat exchanger that was allowing CO2 to enter our buildings HVAC system. I do not recommend Martel HVAC to any potential commercial customers. It actually amazes me that companies with service as poor as Martel HVAC are able to remain in business. If you are looking for a commercial HVAC contractor I highly recommend Royal Cooling out of Watertown MA. The quality of their work is excellent as is their customer service. read more

I was very sorry to see the previous 1-star review for the Martel HVAC team. We've been customers of Martel for 2 years now, and they have previously serviced the home we bought for 5+ years. We've had a very good experience with them so far. Tim Martel and his team replaced one complete heat/cool AC system for us, replaced one external AC unit, and installed a whole-house humidifier. All the work was done promptly and professionally. Prices are comparable to other contractors that can handle large-scale work. This is important to note - there are a lot of small HVAC shops that normally fix leaks, but few that can install a massive HVAC system in a few hours _and_ do that routinely. Tim and his team do a lot of big installations and their knowledge of HVAC technology is very current. For example, I asked about humidifiers a while back. About six months elapsed by the time we were ready for the installation. Tim very honestly shared with me that in those six months new products came on the market that are less expensive and just as effective as the ones he quoted me before. There are very few contractors out there who will tell you "hey, we can do this for you for less money than I quoted before". We've also recommended Martel to friends and neighbors, and they all had good experiences. read more

Say I need parts they had to order but 5 days later they cannot confirm part ordered or ETA for delivery and repair. In the meantime they did something that makes my blower run 24/7 and blow out cold air (it is winter BTW.) Calling for Emergency service for three days and they keep saying a technician will call me back, which of course they never have. Also found out from office staff that the supposed HVAC tech they sent out was actually just a plumber. That explains why, after 2 hours, he had to call for reinforcements and a second person showed up to my house. When AC went down in July, I called a company that I thought I had a service contract with. Of course, I was wrong, but they came out and claimed that I needed a control panel, claiming the AC wouldn't work but the heat would.. They called a day later and said they had the part, but I also found out that my service contract wasn't with them. Oops! I called my service provider (Guardian Care, aka Pivotal) and they placed a service call to Martel HVAC. Martel came out and confirmed that I needed a control panel, claiming AC was working but heat wouldn't. They later contacted me and said that since my system was old (19 years) it was considered obsolete and they couldn't get the part. I explained that the other HVAC company could get the part but was rebuffed when they claimed that they could only get the part from their suppliers. I called Guardian and they could do nothing for me. Trusting no one at this point, I called a third place, Mass heating Inc, in Stoughton, Ma. They came out yesterday and said that my system was OK. Just cleaned something but heat and AC were all good. Needless to say, I cancelled my service contract with Guardian or pivotal or whatever they call themselves today and trust my heating and AC to Mass Heating Inc. Noting other reviews claiming the same treatment, I will never do business with Martel HVAC again. read more

I called Martel HVAC because my home AC stopped working. They showed up the same day, which was nice. During first 15-20 min, they identified the problem: compressor is dead, and the AC is too old to repair and is better be replaced with a new one. I was ready for that, after all, my AC was 30 years old. That is where the OK part ends. Instead of giving me a quote for replacing the AC, they spent another 1.5 hour around my old AC. At the end of the second hour, they repeated the exact same thing about replacing the old AC with a new one, and produced a bill for two hours of work, totaling $259. I asked for the AC replacement quote. They called their "boss" and gave me a number without any details as to what is included. Next day I called Martel HVAC's office to ask for a written proposal with detailed & itemized estimate. They refused, because they normally "give no written estimates". I had no choice but to use a different company recommended by a friend. During their first visit they spent same 15-20 min to diagnose the issue with my old AC & charged for one hour, which is fair. The next day, they sent me a written detailed proposal with an itemized estimate for the replacing of my old AC. I believe that Martel's spending 2 hours around my unit was unreasonable - no repairs done & nothing achieved. It definitely looked like the sole intention was to charge a customer as much as possible. Here to say that not providing a detailed proposal for such an expensive project is a good indication of a possible fraud too. read more

I've called three times today and they don't even answer their own phones during business hours. You have to leave a message with their answering service and wait for a call back. Martel HVAC recently installed our HVAC unit at our beach home. They did a great job! Having done renonvation projects on a few properties and working with various electricians, plumbers, and HVAC companies through those projects, I was anticipating calls for unexpected issues or surprises that would end up altering the price I was quoted. To my relief, not one of those worries came to fruition. This was my very first experience working with a company who did the job in an incredibly timely manner, was responsive to all my calls and questions along the way, and who left my home cleaner than when they had arrived -- Yes, cleaner than when they arrived!!! Really great experience. Would definitely recommend Martel HVAC and am glad that they will be the company providing yearly service to my new HVAC unit. read more

Nightmare experience due to a serious lack of integrity and communication. The whole concept of a contract holder (pivotal) managing repairs is an absolute flop. NO SHOW. They were subcontracted from Pivotal Home Solutions to repair my furnace, which stopped working. Pivotal sent them the claim and said they would call us to come and fix it. More than two hours later they had not called, so I called them and left a message with their answering service. About 20 hours later they still have not called back, and we are still without heat (in January, near Boston). I gave up and called a different company. read more
