superior service! a complicated a/c and heating system in a 130 year old bldg which they handled and solved! hooray!

Do not trust this company. We are long-term, loyal contract customers with a service contract who pay a monthly fee for routine maintenance throughout the year, with the expectation that they would prioritize us in an emergency. Instead, DeWolfe Plumbing completely exploited our trust, price-gouged us, and has spent weeks dodging our calls. Our furnace suddenly failed on a day temperatures climbed into the 90s. When we called, we were told that the earliest they could come was in 2 days when we had our originally scheduled maintain visit and they would change the service call to a problem resolving call and will reschedule the service for a later date. A technician named Brendan arrived. He spent almost his entire time on the phone with his superior. On that supervisor's advice, Brendan claimed a part (fan motor) had failed and that replacing it would cost roughly $2,000. Because we trusted this company as regular clients, we took them at their word. Before leaving to pick up the piece, Brendan asked me to sign an authorization for $2,300. I explicitly asked him to share the official parts receipt and detail breakdown with me. He agreed without objection. Relying on his word and the company's integrity, I signed. The moment the part was installed, the transparency vanished. Brendan refused to provide the receipt on-site, claiming it would be emailed to the email on file. Hours later, we received nothing but a flat invoice for $2,300 labeled "parts and service" with zero breakdown. We took matters into our own hands. We contacted the local suppliers and consulted independent HVAC and plumbing professionals. To our absolute horror, we discovered the part costs a mere fraction of what DeWolfe charged us. The markup wasn't just standard profit--it was an egregious, predatory overcharge. It became immediately clear why they refused to show us the actual store receipt. When we attempted to resolve this: * Victoria in the office was incredibly rude, dismissively stating that they "had a signature" and basically telling us we were out of luck. * Devon, the Service Manager did not help resolve the above. The details of the part sent to us are unverifiable from a local supply shop from which they buy the part. A signature obtained under false pretenses and broken promises of financial transparency is not a blank check to rob loyal clients (this is exactly how we have felt) WARNING TO ALL CONSUMERS: Do not let DeWolfe Plumbing into your home. They are deceptive, and pocketing thousands via outright price gouging. Be advised that due to your absolute refusal to provide an itemized receipt, the true manufacturer part number for our records, or a call back from management, we are actively filing formal complaints and seeking investigation from the following regulatory authorities: 1. The Massachusetts Office of Consumer Affairs and Business Regulation (OCABR) 2. The Massachusetts Board of State Examiners of Plumbers and Gas Fitters (under the Division of Occupational Licensure) 3. He just threw out 5k price for a new Natural gas water heater which seemed arbitrary andvery high, but told me that was what was in their price book. He had no customer service skills what so ever. He would not tell me and pretended to not know what brand of water heaters they used. He said he's been doing this for over 40 years and no one ever asked that question (really). I asked him when was the last time he spent 5,000 and didn't know what he was buying. Then he said Rheem, after more grilling. I can buy the same Rheem natural gas power vented WH at HD for 1,399 retail. So add $3600 hundred and you have the DeWolf installed price. It's a ridiculous amount of money to install a water heater. This is a routine replacement with easy access. I felt I was being taken advantage of because I'm sitting here with no hot water. The power vent pipe needed to be replaced to meet code , he said it was about 15 feet for which he added a whopping $500, again just arbitrary with no cost justification. I had another company out, which was very good and had been in the area since the 1970's. They were straight up no games gave me a quote from text messages and pictures. I got a better water heater and saved over $1100.00 off the "TrustDeWolf" price. The guys were here and gone in 2.5 hours I would name the company but probably shouldn't. They do all the new venting and added another carbon monoxide detector needed for inspection. No more DeWolf for me. I had DeWolf out once before for a heating issue, I knew it was a high price but we were in a pinch and I had nothing for comparison being just parts and labor. They get you by charging $250 for the service call and diagnoses and then your on the hook, unless they do the work and take it off the inflated bill. Never again! Please, please get other quotes before using these people. By the way, I should say the HD quote was just over $3000 but I decided to go with the long time well reviewed Worcester company instead. read more

I called Dewolfe for a leaking toilet in my half bath. They send two plumbers out to fix the leak. The plumbers put in a new wax ring and shims and called it a day. I had company coming and went down to set up the bathroom. I flushed the brand new toilet which has never been used and again still leaking but only worse.. I called Dewofle and they had an appraiser come out and look and he said that I need a skirted toilet for the price of $1200 dollars. I told them I just paid $175 dollars for his guys to come out and charge me over $600 dollars and I am right were I started. I was told that there is nothing they can do about the $600 that I wll have to install a new toilet for $1200. The bathroom has never been used since they left and the job was not completed. but they seem fine with me paying $600 for work not complete. read more

We can't say enough about the excellent service we got from DeWolfe. In September we wisely decided to test our 40 year old steam boiler before the heating season began. It died in spectacular fashion. A friend referred us to DeWolfe and we were pleasantly surprised when we got such a quick response and visit from Jarad, despite the fact the office is in West Boylston and we live over an hour away. His quote to replace the boiler was reasonable so we decided to also get quotes on replacing our mini split system which had also died this past summer and replacing our water heater and a second boiler with a high efficiency direct vent combo. All quotes were reasonable and we went ahead with all three projects. We were thrilled with the responsiveness, workmanship, and professionalism, from the office staff who answered the phone immediately each time we called, to the super qualified workers who installed all 3 systems, in particular Mike, Ryan and Joe. I don't like posting low reviews but this has been a disaster. It didn't need to be. I called 5 times only to be ignored. Then guy called back with an attitude. My sink was leaking. The plumber came out and couldn't access the pipe. Charged me. And told me to take it the cabinets and ceiling to get to the pipe. He told me to call him back when it was done. I did it. Called him back, he came out. Checked the pipe and needed to follow it down so removed some wall. He fixed the pipe from the out side of the house by removing the shingles. I thought that was odd seeing how he told me to take down the roof. So I called Luke. He sent a master plumber out named Dan. He was polite and knew what was done was wrong. He was going back to ask the tech about the roof, and he told me the job he came out for was comped. I waited. Called 3 times. I never got a call back. Waited. Called again 2 more times. Nothing. My father called. Dan called me back after that, and denied that his tech told me to take down the roof, denied telling me the job would be refunded. Why would i ruin my finished basement and wait 2 weeks to repair my kitchen sink if he didn't tell me to take down the dam ceiling. He told me he would have to talk to Luke which he should have done in the first place. Still waiting for them to make it right, in the mean time called a lawyer and will be suing them for having to take down the ceiling, the wall and not being compensated for the job. I hope i get triple damages and lawyer fees paid. They literally could of avoided this if they called me back were polite and offered to help me even a little. I will take the review down if they make it right. If not, I'm going to court as soon as possible and they will pay for my new ceiling. ​​ read more

Horrible workmanship. HVAC had repeated call backs for system failures. Took a very long time to find and then fix the problem. Also had plumbing work done and sink flange was not even close to being tight. They almost ruined my stuff in basement due to lack of attention to detail not securing a drain cleanout cap leaking crap over my CNC machine and boiler. They did return calls and made attempts to fix issues but the quality of the techs in both HVAC and plumbing was abysmal. I would not recommend them under any circumstance. read more

So after the intense snow storm over the last two days I woke up this morning to no heat or hot water. I have a service contract with De Wolfe Contracting, but assumed that they were being inundated with emergency calls. Nevertheless I gave their emergency number a call, actually spoke directly with Jared De Wolfe, and he had a service person show up at my condo in about an hour. That young service guy was friendly, polite, totally professional, and he had the hot water up & running pretty quickly. And while it never occurred to me that the heating system uses hot water, my heat kicked in as he was leaving. I will never have a hot water service contract with anyone else. read more

called them because of a leak in our water main pipe. Did not tell us that just to come to the house there will be a ridiculous $195 fee. Spoke to the manafger that we were never informed about the fee. Despite that they kept us sending us bills in the mail. In frustation decided to pay the 195 fee. There is no such policy mentioned on their website. Their competitors do not charge such an exorbitant fee. Went ahead contracting with one of the their competitors. read more

Sorry, but for that amount of time and cost, I wish he would've just came in, assessed, finished the job (unleveling my radiators, 2 total). I called a plumber to get a quote for installing my gas dryer. There was a gas dryer in my basement before I moved in so all that needed to be done was to connect the dryer to the gas line, run the duct outside (also already there from previous dryer) and plug it in so I could start drying. In MA, a plumber must do this. In all 49 other states, the purchaser can do it and the directions are in the dryer's manual. I did it myself when I was 19 in 10 minutes when I moved into my first apartment. Well, the first plumber I called quoted me $150 including permit. I found that to be ridiculous but the permit was $50 and one hour of labor was $80. I knew the job would take 15 minutes so to be charged for a full hour seemed unfair to me. I was hoping to find a place with a set fee or that would charge me for just 30 minutes. I just moved and I'm unemployed and living off my savings so every penny counts. Instead of hiring the original plumber I called, I emailed my property manager and asked for advice, letting him know that $150 was a little high for me right now and that I'd rather leave the dryer uninstalled if that was what it would cost. He replied with the name and number of a plumber I had to use to install my dryer. I called the guy up and scheduled the appointment. I actually thought that maybe it would be covered by the management company since I was forced to use this plumber and technically my lease says "dryer hookup" which should mean that all I have to do is buy a dryer. Well, it wasn't included and this is company that I had to use charged me $274. There was nothing I could do once it was done but pay so I had to fork it over. The dryer only cost $300. The reason it cost so much was that he charged me for 2 hours of labor at $85, the $50 permit, and $54 in materials. He had to replace the duct that was in my basement and didn't bring enough. He brought 8 feet and had to leave and pick up another 8 foot section. He charged me for this time that he spent picking it up (about 30 minutes). As a plumber who installs dryers, he should have had more than one section in his van. He opened the hose I bought to do it myself (before I found out in MA only a plumber can do it) and didn't use it. The bag was clear. If he knew he couldn't use it, he shouldn't have opened it. Now I can't get my money back from Home Depot. He lollygagged on the work itself. He took phone calls while in my basement. He moved at a snail's pace. I don't even know that he was doing in my basement for 30 minutes after he'd done the gas line and came back from getting the duct. It doesn't take 30 minutes to connect a duct from a dryer to a hole in the wall. He took the gas line apart in three places just to turn it about 45 degrees which was not even necessary. The gas hose connected to my dryer is coiled up behind it. The dryer is 6 inches from the pipe. It could have wound around to the way the pipe faced before. Also, why did he take apart the whole thing? He added more goop to the parts he'd pulled apart but why was that necessary? Just to make the job last another 15 minutes? Even if that was necessary, the rest of it should have taken 15 minutes. I realize that installing dryers is a quick task and it probably costs a plumber more to drive to someone's place and miss out on another more complex job elsewhere than they make but this is not the solution. A set fee for installing and proper scheduling (2-3 in the same area that can be done in an hour's time) would be more appropriate. I feel like I've been swindled here. On top of all this, I found out while he was working that the plumber is the cousin of someone who works at the management company. I'm fine with nepotism but not when it costs me double what I should pay for something. The only reason I am giving 2 stars instead of one is because there was no issue with the actual work. The carbon monoxide detector has not gone off and the dryer works fine. So far the inspector from the town has not come to check it but I believe it will pass since really all he did was connect a new line from the dryer to the pipe. read more

I lost heat and hot water. Not a good season for that but I stopped by Dewolfe and they sent me chad. He was very nice and put in a lot of his time to fix my very complicated Baxi. Finally diagnosed it that we need a new board. He even spent time researching where to find parts to buy for Baxi since they are not made anymore. The part arrived and he came back and installed it. Just used DeWolfe Contracting for a hot water heater replacement! They came right out did the job, took away the old heater and got me back up and running again. I have used them before and they have always come when they said they would. They have done a great job for me, leave the work area clean and I felt their pricing was fair. Chad has dealt with many things for me in the past from a small screw in the disposal, installing a dishwasher , hot water baseboard heat issues and of course hot water heaters and he has always been respectful and has done a great job.
