Drove over here on a hot Saturday afternoon for some mini golf. Had no idea there was an ice cream shoppe here as well which was a welcome surprise. Opted for the Peanut Butter and Maple scoops on a large waffle cone ($6ish). The peanut butter flavor is great - intense all the way through, going well with the cone. Maple is more subtle but sweet forward. Cone is thin, so it can melt through the bottom a bit if not finishing quickly. On the plus side, they also let you eat the ice cream on the course. Service can take some time as they do get a bunch of orders on a hot weekend. Good place to try if wanting to play some holes too.

My husband and I were on the hunt for some ice cream. I was surprised that so many ice cream places were closed or closed by around 8. We probably drove around for an hour looking for ice cream. We passed this place and drove up about 9:02. All the lights were out and we figured we missed this one by a hair. Turns out they closed at 9. Well as we had drove up to look, someone from the inside motioned to us to come up and that they would still take our order. The ice cream was good. Most of all we were impressed by the kindness to take us even though there was no question that it was closing time. Hats off to a business that goes above and beyond to serve their customers and potential customers.

Martel's Ice Cream is a very popular place to go for homemade ice cream and fresh fudge. It's conveniently located across the street from Funtown USA, where I spent a lot of time as a kid. Martel's offers over 50 hard ice cream flavors including limited edition flavors and sugar free flavors. The ice cream is pretty good! My favorite flavors are Coffee and Chocolate Raspberry Delight. Cones, cups, sundaes, frappes, banana boats, floats, ice cream soda, Zach-Wich (cookie/ice cream sandwich), Tyler Bar, and soft drinks are offered. Hand packed ice cream pints, quarts, and half gallons are also available. The prices here are fair for the area. Cones are offered in kiddie ($1.85), small ($2.75), medium ($3.25), large ($3.75), sampler ($4.15), and waffle cone (add $0.75). A 3 scoop Banana Boat is $4.85 plus tax. Frappes (one size) can be made thin ($3.25), medium ($3.85), thick ($4.25), and x-thick ($4.65), but I recommend having a thick shake at a minimum since the medium is on the milky side. (NOTE: 2008 prices before tax). There are outside takeout windows (ice cream treats only) in front of the building. Inside, there's also an indoor counter serving ice cream, fresh fudge, and Italian sandwiches, and a small assortment of Maine gifts and postcards. There's also Miniature Golf in back of the building. NOTE: Cash or personal checks accepted, no credit cards accepted. HOURS: Sun-Thurs: 11AM-10PM, Fri-Sat: 11AM-11PM

We only did mini golf, no ice cream. It was fun, kid friendly, but could have been cleaner.

The BEST ice cream can be found here. I just moved back from Southern California, and it's like impossible to find homemade ice cream there (surprisingly). One of my first stops back in Maine was Martel's. The coffee oreo ice cream is my absolute favorite.

Came out here the other day to check out the ice cream scene. I heard their pine nut ice cream was delicious, but I came here with a mission. I was looking for maple walnut. It was good, but it wasn't great. Everything else was great though. I think I'll find my maple walnut elsewhere, but I'll be back to try other flavors!

In the mood for some quality, hard ice cream? Martels is the place to be. Every single one of their flavors are handcrafted and delicious. This is definitely a staple to my summer experiences. Not only do they have handcrafted ice cream, but they even make their own waffle cones, which will bring you to a place of ecstasy. Be preppared to drop some money though, as they are a bit pricier. It's so worth it though! As for the mini golf, that was more of an afterthought to make more money for tourists, as their mini golf course isn't anything out of the ordinary. If you are looking for amazing ice cream, check it out, but know that the mini golf is just average.

One is flavor that shines through the cold and creamy dessert. Second is how sweet it is. Not too much so to where that's all that comes through. The last being, creamy consistency. So all in all, it's fairly simple. With this being said. Fielder's choice has been #1 for me, followed by Dairy corner in the # 2 slot. The only reason why, is that in my opinion, it's a bid too sweet for me. Otherwise it's pretty damn good over all. Today I happened to be driving by The Maine Scoop and decided to give it a shot. It's always nice to ad options when you are out and about. My wife went to the window to order for us. I wanted a coffee Oreo milkshake. She was going for the vanilla custard soft serve. A single cones worth. As soon as I had my treat in my hands. I gave a big long pull on the fat straw sticking out of the top. The first thing I noticed was a watery slurry followed by chunks of soggy Oreo. Then an extremely overpowering sickening sweet gush that took over all my senses that made my eyes snap shut in horror. My brain whirled in a panic trying to understand what just invaded my mouth. My God! I thought I was experiencing some sort of sugar coma onset. I quickly placed the cup in my holder and sat there bewildered for a few minutes. Until the wife looked at me asking, are you OK? I didn't want to sway her opinion so I just smiled and handed her the cup of disaster and said, give this a try. She enthusiastically took the cup and managed to get about a half of swig before she choked and shoved the cup away from her. Holding it at arms length she proclaimed, what in the world did they make you! We laughed for a moment until I realized I just paid $9 for this sugar slurry mess. I asked the wife to try her cone, I wanted or should say hoped that somehow my shake was some sort of mistake. It wasn't, sad to say. Her ice cream was also extremely sweet, but manageable. So, be warned, if you are anywhere near a possible diabetic. Avoid this place like a modern plague.

At some point, we stopped in Saco to check out a free roadside library when I noticed The Saco Scoop right next door and figured, why not get a little bit of ice cream for the drive? This small shop is located inside a little market style building and the store itself is full of random candy and souvenirs as well as the ice cream I came seeking. Like every single other time I see blue ice cream that has a name like "cookie monster" or "oreo cookie something blah blah" I ordered it and The Saco Scoop did it better then most. The woman who worked here was charming and quick to give us our scoops and get us on our way, and man, this might be the best ice cream I've ever had in the state of Maine (I haven't actually had much, but this stuff was incredible). It was so creamy, it was so flavourful, and it was so freaking good I wish I was able to stop by right now and get a few more scoops. Overall, The Saco Scoop is a truly wonderful little ice cream shop that I'm so glad I stumbled across. I very much look forward to checking Saco out on my next trip and this little ice cream shop might just be the reason we even spend the night.

The only drawback with this one is the selection of ice cream wasn't that extensive and wide ranging but what we did have was tasty and we enjoyed it as we were looking for a different ice cream shoppe! We will be back as this is also dog friendly and walk-ins are welcome with a small amount of seating in the shop and outside of the shop.
