We had an excellent experience working with JR and his team at PCR Construction on a major backyard…read moreproject that included removal and construction of a new retaining wall and stairs and replacing our fence on a very steep hillside backyard in SF. From the beginning, JR was responsive and transparent. His quote was clear and fair, and we were very happy with his communication throughout the project. His crew was equally impressive: respectful, efficient, and professional, and they cleaned up the site every single day. We were working under a tight timeline, and PCR completed the job perfectly on time, which feels incredibly rare these days, especially considering we slightly expanded the scope of the fence project mid-way through. What really set them apart was how thoughtful and empathetic they were, taking care to work around an old, special tree to make sure it stayed healthy, and going above and beyond on small details like using extra wood and concrete to patch areas that needed it around the yard. One note though: if there are any plants you want to preserve, make sure to point them out so they know to work around them. Luckily I wasn't attached to any of my plants (except the tree) since many of them were destroyed this process. We were also very impressed with how the team handled feedback. When we weren't fully happy with the first set of stairs that were poured, they redid them in a day and the final result turned out great. The retaining wall and stairs look fantastic, and the new fence is beautifully done and clearly built to last for many years. Overall, this was a smooth, stress-free experience with a contractor who clearly takes pride in his work and stands by it. We would absolutely recommend JR and PCR Construction and wouldn't hesitate to work with them again.

We had a lot of work to do, and even though some landscapers came in with lower prices, they did not give us the confidence that they truly understood the project. We ended up choosing JR because he clearly knew what he was talking about and had real experience with full landscaping projects. Our project was a big one. We needed a structured retaining wall for our backyard terrace, a full redo of our front yard with artificial grass, and new concrete work in front of our garage. Throughout the entire process, JR and his team were professional, respectful, and easy to communicate with. They kept us updated, asked for our input, and made us feel like we were working together instead of just handing off a job. We have worked with contractors in the past who did not offer any guidance at all, and we later paid the price for those mistakes. JR and his team took care of our home like it was their own, always covering areas to prevent damage or dirt. That alone already set them apart from many others we have worked with. JR also took the time to share his thoughts on what would look best and what would be the most structurally sound. He never pushed us in any direction. He simply shared what he has seen work well over the years, and we honestly appreciated that. Most of the time, we ended up taking his advice because we knew it came from real experience. Another thing we were grateful for is how open he was to fixing or tweaking anything once a section was done. There was never any hesitation. It gave us a lot of trust in the whole process. I strongly recommend PCR Demo & Services to anyone looking for real expertise, solid craftsmanship, and a team that genuinely cares about the quality of their work. We are very happy with how everything turned out and would absolutely work with them again.

Lassiter Excavating - Family owned and operated since 1989!

I don't write many reviews anymore, and honestly, I haven't had many contractor experiences that…read morewould motivate me to change that. But Lassiter Excavation was so good that I couldn't continue to be lazy.  For context, I was replacing an old 35,000-gallon swimming pool with a skinnier lap pool. Lassiter started by completely removing the massive 1975 pool, including every scrap of concrete and piping.  Then they backfilled and compacted. Working to my soils engineer's specifications, they imported and compacted 18 truckloads of quarry fines in carefully controlled 8-inch lifts through the full 12-foot depth of the deep end, all the way to finished grade. They used multiple pieces of equipment, including jumping jacks, a Bobcat, and a vibratory sheepsfoot roller (which I had to look up), and they coordinated compaction testing throughout the process.  When they were done, it looked like a pool had never been there. The site was fully prepared for the new excavation, which Lassiter then completed flawlessly.  I measured their forms with a laser level and laser tape measure, and length, width, diagonals, position and elevations were all within 1/8 inch. That's impressive considering the new lap pool is nearly 60 feet long. When they were finished digging, the walls and floor were razor straight and right on their marks. The crews were outstanding -- friendly, hardworking, detail-oriented, and consistently professional. They maintained an exceptionally clean jobsite throughout the project and even helped me reclaim some old redwood decking.  Special thanks to Santana, Ricardo, Daniel, Jose and team for answering all my questions and caring so much about the end result. If you're considering any excavation work, I highly recommend reaching out to Lassiter Excavation and talking with Bob. They exceeded my expectations in every respect.

Before booking, I sent multiple photos of the project, and based on those photos they provided me with a quote. The following day they increased the price, which I accepted because I wanted to get the job completed. Once the crew arrived, I was told they couldn't use the skid steer in parts of the yard because of the limited access and underground utilities. These were issues that should have been identified before quoting the job since they had multiple photos in advance. Instead, I was faced with another request to increase the price. I also wasn't informed ahead of time that the amount of dirt would require an additional load and that the cost would double. Better communication and a proper assessment before providing a quote would have avoided these surprises. The biggest disappointment was management's communication. Rather than working professionally to resolve the situation, I received repeated phone calls pressuring me about the job and additional costs. It came across as unprofessional and frustrating. The only positive part of my experience was the crew. The workers were hardworking, polite, and did their best under the circumstances. Unfortunately, the management and quoting process overshadowed the quality of their work

He also removed lots of trees and their stumps on my property as well. I'd been wanting to get rid of the pool for years but I've never been comfortable with big home projects, so I kept putting this off. I got multiple bids but went with Pablo because his price was not only very competitive but he also put me at ease from the start and throughout the project. He and his helper showed up practically every day and worked eight or nine hours at a time, even through the July and August heat when it was over 100 degrees. They just kept at it until it was done. They were considerate and careful during the demolition and trees removal so I'd no issues with my neighbors. My 90-something year old neighbor said she barely heard any noise lol. They always asked before doing anything, and when I was on my work trip, Pablo would text me photos so I could see the progress. He also let me know when inspections were coming. Wish I had known about this company years ago so I could have gotten rid of my pool sooner.

Here's why I changed my mind: 1. They're competitively priced. Every time I've asked them to do work for me, they've been significantly lower than other quotes/estimates. At first I thought there must be a catch. But as I vetted them, I concluded that they were legit--they're just a relatively new company and they have a lean operation, so they're willing and able to cut good deals for their customers. 2. I like them and trust them. They're easy to talk with and work with. I was leery about loud demolition noises waking up my family, and they accommodated me. They've gone above and beyond to help me see what different options could look like (e.g., they invited me to see a nearby pool removal they were doing, they lent me samples of artificial turf when I told them I was interested in artificial turf, they helped me decide on the turf that would look nicest, and they didn't charge me extra for it). They didn't make big decisions or changes without talking with me. They've been reliable, hardworking, and transparent. 3. I like their work. They want to do a good job, not just check a box, and they're not out to cheat or gouge me on pricing. See the before and after photos to get a feel for their work! I had wanted to remove my pool to get rid of the safety hazard for my kids. And Legacy Demolition did that. But even more, they gave us a lovely place where our kids can run and play and giggle safely. And for that, we're grateful.
