I have been coming to Esteban's for the better part of thirty years. The quality and service have not changed in all those years. My BF and I were there mid afternoon, I had a doctor's appointment nearby. Although we moved years ago, my doctor is still there. You cannot replace excellent medical care...or excellent food. Our server was Lino V., according to my receipt. He was very attentive and friendly. I had the lunch Seis (a taco, a cheese enchilada, rice, borracho beans) and Mike had the lunch Dos (two tacos, rice, borracho beans). Firstly, their chips and salsa are very good. The red salsa (served warm) and the green salsa are a little spicy for my Northeastern European DNA. I am intolerant of the spice. Mike loved it. My plate was very good, although I only had the taco. My cheese enchilada awaits me, currently in our refrigerator. Mike loved his beef tacos. He ate both tacos, but not much of the beans and rice. I don't like BAR, so.... We love this place. read more

Meh... The food here isn't terrible, but it's nothing to write home about. In short, it's bland ... the type of food you'd feed to your grandparents. I've had this joint on my list for some time, as I'm always looking for good Tex-Mex. It's a clean restaurant with friendly service. Further, the price point is decent. More good: Everything is served hot and fresh. The crispy taco was nice and crunchy, and the meat was nicely seasoned. The chile relleno was OK, but nothing special. The queso here is average, as is the chili gravy. Chips here are hot and fresh! The not-so-good: The food here has the flavor profile of a wet napkin, and the salsa, while OK, is served warm. -- I have two salsa rules. First, no cumin (this placed passed that test). Secondly, it should be served cold in order to preserve all flavors (fail). Though this place wasn't my favorite, I know that they have many loyal customers. The food is fresh an served promptly. Came to Esteban's Cafe y Cantina on a Friday night for dinner. We were able to get seated right away, but it was super packed and pretty noisy. Definitely more of a casual local vibe, which made it feel cozy! Overall, the staff was very friendly and our server, Jude, was really nice and very attentive as well! They gave us chips and salsa to start and we ordered the Don Julio Margarita with a Tajin rim. The chips and salsa were good but the margarita was just ok. There was a lot of Grand Marnier in it so you really couldn't taste anything else. For our entrees, we had the Ground Beef Puffy Tacos and the Acapulco. The Acapulco was pretty good, but the Puffy Tacos were *chef's kiss*! I would come back here just for the Puffy Tacos, they were delicious!! Would give it 4.5 stars if I could on this app! read more

My husband and I haven't been to Esteban's in a long while so we decided to give it another try. And it was awesome! For some reason, we are always seated in the back section which is usually VERY noisy. So if there's large groups back there, it can be difficult to have a normal conversation. I guess it depends on how many margaritas they've had! ;) So just keep that in mind if you are looking for a quiet meal. We ordered the sampler platter and it was FANTASTIC!! It really comes with ALL the best stuff - fajita quesadilla, nachos, chicken flautas, queso and guacamole! WINNING!!! All of it is delicious. No complaints at all! Also, I love that their guacamole doesn't have tomatoes in it. Most places do and I prefer it without. But I know that's a personal preference and I'm in the minority there. I didn't love their margaritas though. I always get flavored margaritas and both flavors I ordered tasted super artificial. I understand they probably use flavored syrup instead of fresh fruit but I didn't like the mango or strawberry flavors. My husband enjoyed the house margarita with no flavoring and I consider him a margarita snob. Their prices are great too! We can order the sampler which fills us both up and it's under $20. Tried Esteban's for the first time today, though I've passed by it for several years. It was so good! Why did I wait so long? We were seated immediately during lunch. The service was incredibly attentive and very fast. We ordered two Don Julio margaritas which were only $9 and pretty strong. I took a nap after lunch. Esteban's had puffy tacos so I had to get some. Bonus: they were the Friday lunch special! Lort, they were so good. I'm so happy I can get my puffy taco fix without driving to San Antonio. It comes with rice and your choice of beans. Hubby got the chile relleno with ground beef. He said it was one of the best he's had. This man eats a lot of rellenos. They also let you choose your filling. You can even get fajita. The restaurant is very casual. Plenty of seating and tables. Not loud at all. I'll be back. read more

I was looking for a local Tex-Mex caterer for the hubby's upcoming milestone bday and came across this place. We went last Friday night to try their fajitas, tacos and drinks. We were immediately seated by the host. The guy that brought our chips and salsa were very friendly. I ordered the original Margarita- nothing to write home about. The street tacos had tiny chopped fajita meat that was bland. The sauce that came with it was delicious though and I appreciate the generous slices of guacamole on the tacos. The fajitas were dry and lackluster. The waitress was just ok, she really didn't check on us much. Glad I tried this place out in person before I blindly ordered catering. We haven't visited since we moved 3 years ago. We miss this place so much! There is nothing that even comes close in East Texas Northeast of Beaumont. If I could open an Esteban's in the area we live in, we would put everyone else out of business! Fact!!! The food here at Esteban's is always so delicious and it doesn't matter what you choose from the menu. Appetizers of White or Yellow cheese Queso, Fresh Guacamole. We love the house margaritas here at Esteban's, my wife loves their watermelon margaritas! You can't go wrong on picking Esteban's Fajita Nachos for lunch or dinner. Their special meals are very good to pick from too! I will usually go with the Ixtapa that had two beef enchiladas one tamale, rice and your choice of refried or Barracho beans, a beef taco, queso chip,v and Guacamole. Esteban's is a staple in this area any time I am in the area for a visit with family. Most of my siblings worked there years ago. It's a cute little restaurant with classic TexMex. Luis is a gem! He served our table and made sure we were taken care of. He's been there for many years and is very friendly. The food was delicious too. Love this quaint Tex Mex restaurant! We sat in the bar area, received excellent service and delicious food! Red and green salsa are both very good! They have hot fresh crispy chips to go along with them. I ordered the Cancun, subbed my beef enchilada for a cheese enchilada! The beef taco was crispy and juicy! Love this place, its a local spot. I mostly always get take out here? Chips and queso. But i find that the food here is pretty good. This is our go-to Mexican food restaurant when we want comfort Mexican food. From the creamy queso to the red and green sauces to the reasonable prices on meals.... there's nothing we don't love about Estaban's. Everyone in the family has their favorite meal. My son orders the chimichanga, I order the Acapulco, my sister orders the quesos de esteban's, and my daughter orders the shrimp enchiladas with cream sauce. Then we order a quart of red and green sauce and lots of chips. We'll eat on the sauces for a couple of days. So yummy. The green sauce is hit or miss but the red sauce is served warm and is always yummy. The interior is crowded and hard for a wheelchair to maneuver especially is they are seating you near the wall but we order takeout all the time and it always comes packaged neatly in great foil and paper containers, not plastic (except for the sauces, but those are in deli containers that we keep and reuse.) I've tried other Mexican food restaurants but we keep coming back to our old standby favorite. I haven't found another that is better yet! read more

NOT IMPRESSED !!! The food was very bland. No seasoning. The tables are too close together. We could hear the conversation going on from the other table. The waiter was no where to be found. He only came to give us our drinks, take our order, give us our food and then gave us our check. NEVER checked on us. We tried to get his attention but he kept walking back into the kitchen. And From where we sat we could see our waiter talking to his coworkers and checking his phone. This was my first time there. We hadnt been to Estebans in probably 16 years after a somewhat negative experience. My how time flies! The interior used to be dark and depressing but not now. Its much lighter and has a homey feel. I had the Tijuana plate and it was an excellent assortment of this and that for $10.99. My husband had the chicken soft taco plate for $8.99. Both meals were really very good. Our server, Shelby, was personable and capable. We were very pleased with our decision to finally return. You can bet we wont wait another 16 years! read more

HORRIBLE HORRIBLE place! The food and service was good. But we were placed by a group of 6 people who talked so loud. They were clearly intoxicated and were talking about everything from private parts, having sex, vasectomies and bending people over the bed. And these elderly people. It was disgusting. The manager refused to do anything about it. Their waitress and bartender kept serving them alcohol. Bad thing is there were children 3 feet away. RUDENESS at it's best!! read more
