I moved to New Mexico a few months ago and dove into New Mexican food headfirst, and after having eaten a ton of it, I can say Martin's is easily some of the best in the state. My parents recommended this place after stopping here for lunch, and I did the same on a trip from Texas to Albuquerque. I came in at around 3:30 in the afternoon, which is an usual time to eat. The service was great nonetheless, and I ate and left in less than 20 minutes. Perfect for a road trip. The salsa with the complimentary chips & salsa is fantastic. So was the food - I ordered what my dad got - the enchiladas adobo with "one lookin' at ya" (a sunny egg). Hang up the phone. 14/10 would eat again. I'm going to try the rellenos next time, or the combo platter. I haven't even tried their green chile, but the red was fire. I might move in next door and eat the entire menu next month. read more

This review is a selfish one on my part. I'm posting this so that next time I'm in Roswell I will be able to remember where I ate. Martin's was recommended to us by all of the locals, so that was the first clue that it was going to be amazing, the second clue was when they brought us the chips. These were warm and had a chili seasoning on them that were out of this world. This is just good, authentic food with deep flavors. I had the tamale/enchilada plate with rice and beans, and it exceeded all my hopes. Come to Roswell for the alien culture, but add this spot to your itinerary as well. read more

I give this place a solid three stars. A grilled cheese sandwich was normal cheese on white bread. The french fries were great. The ice tea perfect. I can't remember my partners meal and although it wasn't memorable I give it a solid three stars. This is a great place for a room café. It was easy to park and it's in a nice location. Best Mexican food in ALL THE LAND. This is where the locals go for their Mexican food fix. And it is truly a mom and pop kind of place. Martin himself is almost always at the restaurant, super friendly guy, and they're always supporting local charities and events and offering catering services...very salt of the earth, good folks. For non-natives (since you're the only ones reading this): the chile is absolutely amazing, the best I've ever had, but it's on the Richter scale of spicy, so just be warned. Ask them which is more mild (red or green...almost every dish comes with it unless you specify you don't want it), but just be aware that our taste buds have super human powers and might be skewed from reality. With that said...the red chile smothered breakfast burrito is what I have dreams about when I'm back on the east coast, where they don't even know what chile sauce is. I would drink it if I could. Secondly, the service is good but sometimes slow because there's only a few employees (this is the kind of place where the staff has been there for 10-15+ years), so you may need to ask for a coffee refill. And maybe they've branched out to meet the demands of sensitive eaters, but I've only ever known whole milk and real cheese here (maybe they have corn tortillas? I haven't looked at a menu in years). And compared to the east and west coast, you'll eat like a king for pennies. So come, enjoy a truly authentic taste of the southwest! read more

Was recommended this restaurant by a local that let us know this was a non-tourist spot which was a godsend! I absolutely loved the stuffed sopapilla and their creamy green Chile sauce is the BEST. My mother mentioned that sauce is identical to the one her mom used to make and it threw her back Ratatouille style into her childhood memories; YES, it was that good! Ate there yesterday with my husband and in-laws and my husband went to go check out. there was a homeless person there who asked him for a glass of water, so he asked the check out girl. He then proceeded to pay. He was also told his credit card was declined so he went and asked me to pay for it. I paid for it with another credit card so we were charged twice for the same meal, assuming because my husband asked for a glass of water for a homeless person. Wandered in here after having a car breakdown and not meaning to even be in New Mexico. The salsa was fresh. Service was slow from afternoon rush. The Chile stew was delicious and the tamales had a perfect amount of meat to masa, with a spicy red sauce. BUT..... the best thing about the entire meal was the sopapillas....OMG! Not bad, my "chimichanga" was just a burrito smothered in sauce. Got Christmas (red and green sauce) which was pretty good. Loaded with chicken, came with guacamole and sour cream. I was in Roswell to see all the UFO attractions, and ate at Martin's pretty much just because of the review left by Sonja R. The epically long and effusive narrative that sets a stage for glory in experiencing a green Chile stew that knows no rivals despite the small opinions of a few other yelp reviewers, mentioned by name, who were petty about the service and anyways don't actually like spice. It's three inches of text, nearly a novela really, that ends with her never actually eating at the restaurant, as it was closed that day, and going to another pretty ok place instead. What a twist! We stopped there for an early lunch on a Monday before starting our touristy search for aliens. Not busy, seated right away. Lots of flies--we found this to be an issue at many establishments in Southern New Mexico over the next few days. Stepmom got a Chili Relleno plate--she makes some excellent ones herself and is a tough critic. She reported: Chili was good (flavorful but not scorching hot) but the batter was soggy. I got the asado plate-pork in a red sauce--very tender but sooo salty... I reminded the waitress that it was supposed to come with a tortilla and she said she would get it--time passed-no tortilla--we could see the waitress nibbling on a snack in the back of the restaurant. Finally, my wife asked another waitress for the tortilla and it appeared in no time. I must admit that putting the salty meat and the bean/rice/lettuce together in the tort was tasty. What a disappointment! I failed to do my research on the best Mexican food in town and asked a shopkeeper for recommendations. She sent me here. I got take out and it was very quick. Prices weren't exactly cheap. I ordered chicken tacos which were disappointing. The shredded chicken was kind of dry and not very good. I also ordered a guacamole salad which was just globs of guac on top of shredded lettuce with a few tomato slices (not even ripened). You call that a salad? I would avoid this place. They do have non-meat menu items, for vegetarians. I did not ask if the beans are lard free however, so this is an unofficial comment. Stepped up their game! When I visit Roswell to see family we come here because my dad loves their breakfast. In the past the food and service is good-to-ok, but it's been a good 2-years since I've been back and my two visits this week have been spectacular! I came once for breakfast - coffee was delicious and I'm a coffee snob. Chorizo and eggs were flavorful yet not dripping with grease. Came back 2 days later for lunch and instead of my usual Asado I had the crispy beef tacos - wowsa they were amazing! The ground beef had great flavor, fresh lettuce and tomatoes, and the chips and salsa are the best in town. I added a side of green chili stew and it did not disappoint! The entire restaurant looked squeaky clean no greasy looking tables or floors. Wait staff so efficient and professional. My husband loves the green sauce smothering anything. Last food mention are the sopapillas!! They're huge and fresh and a cross between a classic sopapilla, Indian fry bread, and a beignet. Yummo!
