First time coming here since my goto spot Mufflerville went downhill since the owner sold the spot. I checked out this spot since TC auto is next by and i always go there. The owner seemed pretty nice and it looks like his wife works in the office which is cute. Overall his prices compared to other shops is fair and seems to do good work. I just didn't like how once he finished the work. He told me 2x not to drive forward when leaving because it was close to another vehicle in the shop. Scam artist. Went in for a simple welding job he normally charges $10-15 for, but as soon as he saw me, he asked for $40. When I questioned it, he claimed he's always charged that much. I called someone who knows him and his prices, and they agreed he was overcharging. When I confronted him, he changed his story, saying he used to charge less but raised prices. Feels like he saw my newer car and figured he could get more out of me. Shop was empty, and now I know why. Wouldn't recommend. Shop stays in business for doing illegal muffler deletes and straight pipes. What a joke read more

Pretty garbage for a muffler shop. Had my bmw taken in to have my muffler installed. Typically you'd take the whole assembly off to do a proper weld for length adjustment. But all I saw was a terrible weld caused by the lack of attention to detail by welding the piping while it was still installed on the car. I would never come back again. For a muffler shop, I'd expect better since your specialty is in the name. read more

Fast forward to today (8/22/2020), I was planning on getting the resonator on my car replaced. Headed out there right when they opened and there was already a client inside with his Chevy SUV where, I guess, he brought his own K&N exhaust parts with him. Not sure what those parts were but saw Martin working on the front end of the truck so perhaps they were the headers, possibly? Dunno. I asked Martin for a price quote on a resonator for my car and he said $80, parts and labor included. Ultimately, it turned out to be $85 after taxes. And he still does take credit cards, by the way. Wait time was roughly an hour or so. Not bad, all things considered. He was the only person there at the shop this time. My first time there, I recall him having a male helper and a female receptionist. Not sure what happened to those two. Perhaps he had to let them go because of COVID-19, possibly? Who knows? Anywho, once he was done with the first client, I drove my car into the lift area and he hoisted my car up into the air, I got to see my car's underside and the exhaust system in all of its glory. One thing that I noticed that I didn't notice before about the resonator pipe and my catalytic converter ("cat" for short) was that it was missing the bolt-on connections. I guess way back when I first had my cat replaced, that other muffler shop (now closed down permanently in Highland Park) decided to cut that entire bolt-on connection off from the downward side leading back to the muffler and welded the cat into place. It was a really good weld, mind you, but now that the original bolt-on connection is gone, the only way to replace the cat would be to cut it out and weld it. The top side leading up into the headers still have the bolt-on connections, it seems. The reason why I pointed this out is because on YouTube, there is a content creator called Bushougoma that created a video about how to replace this resonator pipe, the resonator itself (AKA the glass pack), plus the muffler and in his video, from the cat and back, there is a bolt-on connection that mine doesn't have anymore. For his video, it was a simple bolt-on connection (3 bolts to remove and replace [or re-use]) from behind the cat all the way down to the muffler. Moving on, Martin used an electric pipe cutter and cut both ends of the old resonator and replaced it with a new but generic-looking resonator. It took him maybe 30 minutes altogether. Shortly after, the first client with the Chevy SUV came back and mentioned in Spanish that his check engine light is on. (I wonder what's that all about?) I pull out and parked my car on the side, temporarily, paid Martin on my credit card, filled out that piece of paper that would be my receipt as a 1 year warranty (he gave me the yellow portion) plus credit card receipt and off I went. The replacement made a real difference in the sound that my car used to make. It's a lot more quiet. And my car shifts differently now. It feels as though it's a bit smoother and there seems to be a bit more power than before. Only time will tell on whether it will last but seeing as the other resonator lasted about 2 years, (the muffler shop that installed it in Lincoln Heights also went out of business, apparently), I'm thinking this one should be good for another 2 years as well. The generic muffler that he installed on my car from a year ago seems to be holding up so far so we'll see, I suppose. I'm curious to know if Martin does timing belt jobs seeing as his Yelp business info mentions engine repair as a part of the list of services that he provides but checking around his office and work space, I don't think he does, but other reviews around the internet seem to imply otherwise. On a side note, I asked for a price quote for a new cat and he told me that it'd be around $380 but that 6 months ago, pre-COVID-19, when parts were cheaper to source, it would have been $180. Good to know. Hopefully by the time the COVID-19 crisis has averted, prices for a cat will come back down again. My fingers are crossed. read more

My catalytic converter was stolen! Parked my on Rosemead Blvd in San Gabriel. Busy street, always traffic.None the less, it was stolen. They even left the car on the Jack! I looked for a muffler shop close by, and I found Martin's. I called him, and he told me to come by to see what could be done. He was kind and sympathetic, and explained to me why catalytic converters are sought after by these thieves. More importantly, he replaced my catalytic converter, and had me in my way. Martin was able to find a Honda OEM catalytic converter for my car and repair it in a timely manner. I came out one morning to my 2016 Prius on jacks and come to find out, not-so-good thieves were trying to steal my car's catalytic converter. Luckily, nothing was stolen as they were unable to take my catalytic converter, which would cost me thousands. Just a cut radiator hose, some missing screws and an empty radiator tank. I just got my car back from being painted, so I decided to get a new muffler installed here, per recommendation from the guy that painted my car. After discussing where I wanted to muffler and tips to sit, Martin went to work on doing the installation. Here's where things went wrong. He didn't properly secure the muffler in place, so the tip was resting against my freshly painted rear bumper melting a small section. My friend and painter of my car said he'll take care of it because he referred me over here. If you decide to have your car worked on here, double and triple check the muffler is securely mounted in place with adequate brackets and hangers. read more
