Took some old bikes here for a tuneup. For a very expensive service, they did a poor job. I picked up both bikes with low tire pressure. Marty's also then claimed my front shock was broken and could not be repaired, but that it was still "good enough", even though it was flat as a pancake. A few weeks later I saw an old friend who knows a thing or two about bikes. He took one look at the shock, pumped it up in about three seconds with a very basic tool he carries with him in his car, and now it is perfect. He could not believe it when I told him Marty's had no idea what to do. read more

My organization had a disagreement with owner. We purchased a bike for our non-profit raffle. The mistakenly charged us tax when after they said they wouldn't. In speaking with the son of the original owner, he said to never contact him again. I have never been treated with such disrespect. I do not recommend this business to anyone. read more

This Randolph location is great. The owner is a nice guy and transparent with what repair costs would be. I dropped my bike off for a full service (suspension, tires, brakes, chain, dropper post) and it was reasonably priced. Everyone in the store is super nice. read more

I had a damaged rear wheel and wanted to see if they could true it. If not I told the rep that I would like a replacement rim. The rep said he wasn't a mechanic, so he took the bike in the back to have the mechanic look at it. When the rep came back he said the rim could not be trued, and I would need a replacement. Then he tells me that they checked the bike and said it wasn't shifting properly and they wanted to do a full tune-up. I told him I can do the tune-up and I just wanted the new rim. The rep said they would not just do the new rim. I asked the rep "So if I had just brought you the rim, then you wouldn't have checked the bike and would have been able to order the replacement rim." I feel this was a pretty lame attempt at upselling a tune-up, which I told the rep I can do myself. I will never spend any money there. I tried them because they are closer than CycleCraft in Parsippany. I guess I will just keep using CycleCraft. read more

I was in need of an emergency repair -- the cable to my front derailer had broken -- and I'm not sure if I witnessed a bike repair OR a Magic Show!! I stood there in absolute amazement by how fast this repair was done. My mouth was dropped open for so long that I'm sure I was standing in a pool of saliva. These guys are the best! If bike repair were an Olympic event, then every nation would pull out of the competition if they found out that Marty's was entered. read more

I am shocked by some of these poor reviews. At time when it is hard to find good people, the people that work at Marty's are amazing and knowledgeable efficient and get it done. Both of my wonderful mountain bikes have been purchased and serviced at Marty's for 16 years. My poor bikes are trashed when I bring them in. I put my bike in for service with no appointment they took great care of my bike and me. They tracked down some older parts and were able to give me a quote for the work on the spot. Have some patience people. They are the best. read more

I had come to Marty's originally off a friends recommendation, at the time i was looking at a few bikes at REI and just wanted an opinion other than theirs. The sales reps at REI were 1 for 2 for being correct about deals and specs they were offering. When i came into Marty's Dean originally helped me out, i told him i was just looking and that i was going to buy in the next few weeks. He was very helpful and ended up showing me the bike i eventually bought from them. He gave me the best advice personally for what i wanted in a bike and have been very happy with my choice. When i came in to buy it, Marty was there and helped me size the bike and another guy helped adjust it perfectly. They were all very helpful and friendly loved it. A few rides in i screwed up one of my big cogs, I was shifting and in a more rushed decision while still learning the gears i shifted up when i meant to shift down and ended up doing a small amount of damage. I took the bike in and they were able to fix what i needed no charge and tune up some other things for me. This past time i went in because by brakes were squeaking like a banshee, they checked out it made some adjustments and ended up replacing the front pads for me to fix the problem, no charge to me. I'm pretty new to the bike world but the service i have gotten from Marty's so far had made be very satisfied i took my friends advice for getting my bike here. read more

Beyond rude. I was patronizing the business they share a parking lot with, but apparently they forget the other business exists. UPS truck was delivering to them - no problem. But then one of their employees comes and parks right next to the truck - not that there wasn't plenty of other places to park. So now I'm blocked in - and need to get back to work. I ask the first employee I see if he knows who owns the truck because it is blocking me in - he completely ignores me and gets into the back of the UPS truck. So I go inside to another employee and tell him the car needs to be moved. His response? "Go out the other way." Yes - go out the long driveway that is one way IN. So that their employee doesnt need to move his car from where it should not have been parked in the first place. In the end I went out the one way - because their employee never came out. read more

I have to say this was the most pleasurable experience that I have had to buy anything and especially expensive. I met Adam who is the general manager for the the bike stores. He was so so helpful and knowledgeable. He allowed me to test drive some bikes there to help educate me. He was not pushy at all He helped to take the time to show me online all the details to compare different bike features compared to the bikes. Adam also got back to my emails and a few calls as I was looking to spend 11-12K on this bike purchase. He wanted to make sure I was comfortable and confident with my purchase. Never once did I feel pressured or rushed in my decision. He also explained how Martys takes care of the bike and you after the purchase. It was clear that this is a family-run business with employees who care about the reputation and doing the right thing. On my second visit to try and make a decision, Adam brought one of the bikes from a different store to this location so I could make a more educated decision side by side with the other bike. On that visit, I met Jesse the owner of the bike stores. I felt as if I knew Jesse forever as well like we had been best friends. I met his son Jonah who was a very nice young man. Jesse's son actually joined me for a ride after I bought my bike. I loved the family feel of there and everyone was so nice. Jesse was exceptional in helping me make the best final choice & best for me I had the pleasure of working with two top-notch professional personable people. I feel anyone who is shopping for a bike should make Martys your personal bike store. I ended up buying a Pivot Shuttle am. I am just as happy I got the bike as I am when I bought it from such amazing nice family people. I also feel like I met 2 new friends I could be best friends with forever. This bike store is now a home for me. I felt I took my time looking around as I was searching for an expensive E mountain bike.I started off at a bike store in Basking Ridge. They tried to pull a fast one on me by selling me a 2022 bike as it was 2023 when I went home to look up reviews on that bike. They also tried to say that I would have free lifetime tune-ups when buying the bike from them. Well, my search went on to visit the TREK store in Stirling. There were a bunch of younger kids in high school trying to sell me a bike and couldn't answer the real hard questions I had about the differences. I did test drive 2 bikes there. At the TREK store, I felt as if they were pushy to get me to buy a bike that day. They didn't want me to leave without making a purchase. They keep asking to give a better price or try to see what more they can do. read more

Only two other customers there. We tried to give a small business more business but failed due to their terrible customer service. We were ready to buy today. read more

Bought a bike yesterday from this store and was supposed to pick it up today. However, they sold the bike out from under me to another person hours before I was supposed to pick it up. I was not even informed, just refunded the money. Very bad business practice and I will never deal with this company again. Very disappointed as I had been searching for this bike for a while. During the bike shortage, I found a Trek SL5 online at Marty's Randolph. Working with Jeff over the phone was easy and a great experience - start to bike pickup. I later did a professional/basic bike fit. Another excellent experience. I returned to get tubeless tires installed which were on back-order for a few months. I walked in, my bike was immediately taken and within 60 seconds was being worked on. It was emergency room quick. I half expected to need to leave it and return another day. Nope. In about 45 minutes the bike was done. The store has great inventory; employees seem to work there for years; their inventory computer system seems to be very good for stock and out-of-stock orders. Marty's is EVERYTHING you want in a bike store. The low ratings are not warranted. You had to move your car? You had to wait to enter the store during a pandemic? Sorry if in that moment the earth stopped spinning around you! I haven't visited the other locations; but Randolph deserves 5 stars. read more

Ordered a new Trek Domane SL5 disc. Arranged shipping on bikeflights and was counting on Marty's Reliable to box the new bike appropriately. Bike came with cracked head tube. It was obvious that the front of the bike was not safely wrapped or protected. Luckily I'd paid bikeflights for some insurance because Marty's told me "take your problem to the shipping agent", regardless of the pictures I sent showing the indentations in the box from direct contact with head tube. Expensive purchase for what is now a used bike. Had a bike trip planned and had to scramble to find a rental, which didn't really fit. Ruined my trip and when explained this, there was no response at all. Reimbursement for rental would have made sense to me. They could have done much better and accepted some liability, but knowing I am out of their market area, I can only conclude that doing the right thing is not their style. They made their profit regardless. So if you are having a bike shipped by Marty's, beware. Otherwise, know that Marty's isn't considerate if they make a mistake. At least in my case. We bought our first trek bike at the Randolph store today and the experience was like shopping at Target, to top that off we were not directed or instructed, they did not check the bike for fit and did not offer a test ride we had to ask. they did help us put the bike on the bike rack after we asked. You have to ask for everything yourself so this isn't a great shop for someone new to this. Honestly this store is nothing the Hackettstown shop, night and day. Anyway I do not rd amend this shop. To top this off the bike a trek Marlin 7 is noisy and clunking through the greats and my bike which we also bought today but at a different shop is perfect read more

First thing you should know, is that the "new" address for Marty's is 1164 State Route 10, Randolph. They used to be located less than a mile West of where they are now. They are still on the West bound side of Rt. 10. Now that I may have told you something you already know, it's time for my review... Remember when there was a time when stores offered personalized, helpful and friendly service? Well, at Marty's you can still get that. They are extremely knowledgeable and this is a real bike shop. They only carry quality products. Are they going to have the cheapest price around? I'm not really sure about that. I don't mind paying a little more for things when I know I am getting reliable information, learning a little something and walking away thinking, hey, that dude really know what he's talking about. It seems as if most of the people in sales have been working there forever. That tells you something, they like their jobs. As a consumer that alone means something to me. You can buy your bike at a big box store, but it's not going to compare to the bikes you can buy at Marty's. They offer lifetime service on bikes over a certain price. I have bought 3 mountain bikes, and 2 kids bikes from them. They never talk down to you just because they are experts. Instead, they try to pass on what they know and that's a big help. I learn a little something every time and I always walk away with a smile. I almost forgot to mention, the store is really nice too, lots of products on display and just a nice chill feel to it. read more

Today my husband and I picked up two dual sport Trek bikes from Marty's in Randolph. Our purchasing endeavor began last week and right from the beginning it was a great experience. We didn't know much about bikes and Dean was super patient and really knowledgeable! We wanted to get into biking and we didn't know where to start. He listened to what we wanted and didn't try to sell us some super over priced bike or a cheaper first time bike. He pretty much understood what we were looking for an wasn't pushy or pressured us at all which is a huge turn off for me when shopping. We did shop around to compare pricing (since the shopper in me always wants a good deal) But truth be told these bikes are priced the same where ever you go. The difference is in the customer service and the extra mile that Dean went for us! We seriously walked into another shop and walked right back out when we realized no one was going to help us the same way Dean did at Marty's. And their bike was even priced a few bucks less but we didn't even care. Today we picked them up and needed to install the attachments on our car to get them home on our roof rack. Dean pretty much spent all afternoon (2+ hrs) helping us put them on and adjusting our bikes before we left! I would highly recommend this shop to anyone I know! When I entered into MRC in Randolph, I can say with confidence that I was impressed at both the overall quality of the shop and the customer service I received. Eric at the front desk made my purchasing experience easy, convenient, and was extremely helpful in answering any questions and concerns I had. The staff at MRC know what they're doing and it shows with the knowledge they have on the product and their personal recommendations/touch. Eric even went as far as to suggest local trails that I could go try out as well. The service department built my bike professionally and it's honestly the best experience I've ever had in a bike shop. First off I should say that I have not purchased a bike from Marty. So this review is more about the service department. I've brought my road bike in maybe 5 times now for service. Even though I have't purchased my bike through them, they're willing to see if it's a quick fix that they can do for me on the spot which in most cases it is. Yesterday I dropped it off because of some new mystery sound and wanted to get this taken care of and just a general tune up before the NY Gran Fondo. Dropped it off on a Monday and had it back Wednesday. Only missed a day of cycling! Sure enough, mystery sound gone, shifts even smoother... They even noticed that I installed my brake shoes upside down:) and fixed it. I can't tell you how many times I've dropped a bike off to have adjustments just to get it back in worse shape. Not so with Marty's. Pricing is fair and when it's some quick adjustment they do on the spot for me the charge is so affordable that I go out of my way to load up on GU, socks,... to support the shop (feeling guilty that I didn't buy my bike there). Ordered parts online for pickup during Covid19. Ordering process was smooth but the pickup was not organized, and extraordinarily slow. They have 1 line for both dropping repairs or doing pre-order simple item pick up, and there is limited staff for the amount of customers. They then have the few people that are working actually DO some of the repairs inside on the spot, leaving those waiting to pick up standing in the heat outside FOREVER. Have been on line for 60 minutes already to pick up a pair of grips and am nowhere near the front. In the last 30 minutes they have helped a total of ONE customer. If they weren't holding my paid for order hostage I would have left long ago. Good product lines but terrible service and execution currently. Go elsewhere unless you have a couple of hours to wait and need a tan. read more

From the minute I walked in-the staff was great. No high pressure sales- i havent been on a bike in a long time-lol-but the guy that helped me was great. He took alot of time making sure that this was the right bike for me-sized everything-and made me ride it to be sure all was correct and comfortable. I had my son's bike at another bike store where I lived for 2 1/2 weeks and they did not fix the problem. Don't think they even looked at it. Marty's fixed it overnight. I love these guys. They're organized during Covid and they try not to waste your time. All I can say is run, don't walk to any open Marty's location for a purchase or repair. They are so much better than the Trek run stores closer to where I live. A completely different experience. Won't go anywhere else. read more

Recently went in to buy a bike for myself and my daughter. Sign on the door says to wait outside for someone to let you in. Someone came immediately (actually all 3 times I went I never had to wait more than a minute). I was very happy that the store wasn't very crowded and staff is still wearing masks. I told the sales person exactly what I was looking for and in what price range. They had 2 options, one was in the shop but had to be assembled and the other was being shipped and would be a few days. I put a deposit down on the bike and they called me early the next afternoon. Much faster than I expected. I also ended up getting a new bike for my daughter (although they did have plenty of used options also). They did try to sell me a few extra things which I did not need but I do wish they had suggested the detachable cross bar that goes across so I can get it on the bike rack. I got a new seat and they put it right on for me and showed me how to adjust it. Over all great experience. Friendly, knowledgeable staff. read more

Dissappointed. The final straw happened this Sunday. I took my bike there for a tune up. I rode it a total of 4 times. The chain started going off of the largest chain ring with the smallest amount of pressure. So I brought it in to get it adjusted after the tune up this Sunday. The gearing was adjusted. I rode the bike today (Tuesday) and the bike started to almost go off of the chainring again. Also, the rear derailer stop going through half of the gears. Marty's was closed today. So I decided to go to REI because I have had a positive experience there with my urban/ beater bike there. REI in East Hanover determined that I had a frayed wire to the back derailer, I need a new chain ring (broken cogs), I need a new rear cassette and I need a new chain. I need over $180 of repairs that I would have gladly paid Marty's for if they would have found the damage that I was able to see myself. This is something that Marty's should have caught. Marty's has always given me the best tune ups available anywhere. I have been a Marty's customer for over 15 years. To miss these problems is unacceptable and a waste of my valuable time. Also- when I went to get shoes a week before this happened I was annoyed with Jesse's sales tactics. I went in to buy shoes that would work with my clipless pedals. I have wide feet. He found the size that I need but only in shoes that cost $180. He said that it would be very hard for me to find shoes that fit me for less. (I ended up buying comparable shoes for $120 at REI). Also- he was trying to hard sell the bike fitting at a $60 hour cost. If it were my store I would take a little time to look for fit problems without pushing so hard for the $60. I am a sales professional and I learned from Jesse how to never be in a sales situation. He was eager for the $ and showed little if any true concern for the needs of the customer. I am the opposite. I feel that if I work my hardest for my customers the money will follow. I may or may not give them another chance for them to give me a tune up on one of my bikes depending on how REI does. For the past 10+ years I have been totally happy with Marty's- no one has ever tuned up bikes better. In 2008 I bought a bike from the Bike Stand in Scotch Plains because what I wanted was $800 less there than something similar would have cost at Marty's. I was not happy with how the bike stand set up my bike, and Marty's straightened it out then. Surprisingly, I predict that the people at REI will fix my bike with no issues. 2 stars is generous. If I would have gone with my recent experiences with them I would have given them 1 star. But because I have always been happy with them in the past I am being generous by giving them 2 stars. If you go there to buy a bike know that you can probably find a better deal elsewhere. Also- if I were to get a tune up from them again I would watch what they do closely, which I have never had to do with them in the past. I am upset that I can't trust their tune ups anymore. FYI- I am not any type of road weight weenie or anything like that. I mostly use both of my bikes as a way to burn calories going to work, the gym or to the grocery store. They were probably overwhelmed and understaffed. They probably gave my bike to some rookie mechanic. But they should take better care of their reputation. read more

Marty's strength is the education of the staff and selection. They have one of the finest selections of children's and adult recreational bikes. They present variety in design, color and parts/accessories and have a very friendly staff that will not push an upsell or make you buy something until you are full comfortable and educated. I've been going to Marty's for years, both in Randolph and Morristown, for my husband and I and children's bikes. Amazingly, we have never had a problem with our bikes. They always give us full instructions that we follow, like the new chain will stretch, so come in after 4 to 5 rides and we'll adjust, and we never have a problem. They are always knowledgeable and with all the free service included with our new bikes, it has been so worth it. Any questions and the service folks have shared freely their knowledge, which seems quite extensive. Thanks Marty's! read more

Don't ever go to this place for service. Brought my bike in for a warranty repair for a cracked frame. 1st problem I had was I walk into the place and there are no customers but 4 workers chatting and totally ignore you as you walk in with a bike and make you wait? That's good customer service, right? So I ask Michael how long it will take for the repair as I coach a kids mountain bike team (I certainly didn't expect an immediate answer and told him that) but asked that they call me when they have an idea. 3 days later, I hear nothing and have to call them? So now I go to pick up my bike - I find that my chainstay guard is 1/2 hanging off,I know it's not a big deal but shows there lack of detail! It gets better, I go to ride my bike and the rear derailleur must have been played with because all of a sudden it's not shifting properly, luckily it's an easy fix for me. Never again will I go to this bike shop! read more

I have a road bike been riding for 25+ years between 2000 and 4000 miles a year. My shop closed this past summer and i went to Marty's for a tune up - spent $475 for tires and cables and a cleaning. Three days after i got my bike back i rode in a charity event in Massachusetts and 25 miles into the first day 110 mile ride the bike would not shift into the big ring - this is a first or me - after a tune up - so i had the road crew adjust it - i then reached out to tell the team at marty's and they could have cared less...never bothered to even say bring it in let us make sure it is working - obvious that they have no interest in standing behing their work read more

I went in to Marty's today with a used hybrid mountain bike that my friend gave me to see if it was safe to operate. The bike is over 10 years old but it was hardly ever ridden. The repairman checked it thoroughly, inflated the tires and answered my questions. The surprising thing was that he didn't charge me a fee because we were existing customers (I had purchased 2 other bikes, helmets and a car rack there). He was fast, efficient and courteous and it was so nice not to be charged a fee for this service. When I returned home I showed my neighbor the bike and told him about Marty's and he said he goes there as well because they have a GREAT reputation. Thank you, Marty's! read more

I once bought a bike at Marty's in Morristown. I went in there on the Friday of Labor Day weekend. The first thing I asked was whether there was going to be a sale, and I was told NO. So I went ahead and bought a bike that day. When I returned late that afternoon to pick up the bike, however, EVERY bike in the shop was tagged with a sale price EXCEPT for the one I bought. I was told that the bike I bought wasn't on sale. I shouldn't have taken the bike, but I was young and foolish. I was visiting the area from out of town, and I wanted to rent/ demo a bike for the day. Dean was very helpful over email prior to my trip. When I picked up the bike, the guys in the store helped me find some local trails to explore right behind the store. Very helpful people. The Trek Stache 7 plus bike was a lot of fun. It did very well on the wet, slick terrain and handled nimbly. Fun ride for the first time on a plus bik. read more

I been buying and having my bikes serviced at Marty's Randolph since I moved here 4 years ago. Today I went to buy a bike from the shop and I'm sorry I made the final purchase. It was a 16" for my 4 yr. old granddaughter. The sales person said she is a 16" and it comes in purple or white. We selected the purple one and she rode it around the store a few times. He never offered to make an adjustment, she was way to low, or offer any other alternatives. I ended up buying the bike, lacking my better judgement, because her birthday was on Wednesday. I asked if there was a discount for MAFW's and he stated we haven't done that in over a year. I been in and did receive a discount. In the past The whole process just put a sour taste in my mouth and I'm sure I will be looking around for my further purchases or service. I have never had any issues in the past but today was a turnoff. My money is good anywhere. Another thing when I went to pay by credit card he said it was debit. I told him no credit. I put in my credit card and he said to put in my PIN number. I said I don't have a PIN number, it a credit card. It worked as credit with no issues. What's up with that. read more
