Steve has been around forever, and has always been an invaluable resource for me. He is an old-school bike mechanic, rare in this "if it breaks, buy a new one" disposable world. I do all my own bike maintainance, but when I need something repaired that requires a professional's expertise, I turn to Steve. He has tools and fixtures in the shop you will not see in other bike shops--a frame alignment table, a giant metal lathe, welding equipment, etc. Of course, he has lots of rare, hard-to-find vintage bike parts to keep your classic ride rolling. Today, when disassembling and packing my bike for an overseas trip, I discovered that my quill stem was frozen in the steerer tube. Steve worked on it for half an hour, with everything from a mallet and a block of wood to a pneumatic air hammer. He fixed my only bike, saving me from having to possibly rent one for three weeks in Hawaii, and he only charged me $20. read more

I never had a turn down from a bike store before. 1st of all, I called before I came down here. I said I needed a hydraulic di2 shifter change, they said to bring the bike in. I came there, and he said he can't do it, he said he is the only mechanic, it doesn't matter, you are a bike store! Order the parts, then work on it when you got it. Charged $21 to fix my 5-year-old's front bike tire. They quoted my wife $15 when she brought it in, and that was already too high. When she picked it up, the price was higher. I would have given my wife a 1-star rating for failing to complain, but she is 5-star in every other way, so I can't complain very much! I'm new to the biking scene and unfamiliar with what's normal and what's "a problem" with bikes so I figured I go local to support small businesses around my area. I was immediately greeted by Hans, who gives off the vibe of a used car salesman, who just wants to take my money. He also has a manner of speaking to you like you're an idiot, and that you know nothing about bikes if you ask questions about basic bike repair. Well I explained what my "issues" were with the new bike that I have assembled already and after explaining the issues, he recommended a re-assembly of my bicycle. At a price of $100 I could've gone elsewhere as the bike was already assembled, but assumed they will take care of the issues I had. So when I'm told my bike was ready, I pick it up and take it home. I inspected the bike and I see no change other than bike grease in particular spots that I could've done. As I rode the bike around the block I already notice that the issue of not being able to shift into the small cogs was not addressed. I take it back and the younger employees seem to be more knowledgeable than he was about the issue I had and handled it. Hans made a comment which I did not appreciate, "That's probably the first time you ever shifted into the small cog since owning the bike." Can you believe the nerve of this guy, as I initially told him that was one of my issues with the bike. After taking care of the issue I can finally shift into the smaller cogs however, I still hear a creaking noise when pedaling. Hans said everything is fine though and again began to speak to me in a tone that "I know nothing about bikes and should listen to him." So I took his word and left. As I continued to ride, that creaking noise seems to bother me and so I brought it to another bike shop and I was instantly told it was a tire rub with my derailleur and needs minor adjustment. This little shop is the one of the best around. I've had simple to very complex repairs done by Steve & I'm honestly not comfortable allowing anyone else to work on my bikes. Steve has done things like machine no longer available parts for my bikes to rebuild freewheels so they would work with the derailleur that I was using (find someone who has the tools and knowledge to do that!) The man can fix anything & will do it right or not at all. His tune ups are comprehensive, his builds are first rate & he won't sell you what you don't need. I went into the shop yesterday because for the first time, I'm building a bike. It's a learning process...and Steve's knowledge/experience helped me overcome some hurdles Google and YouTube couldn't. He offered up options and guidance on what made sense, factoring in cost and utility. At one point during our conversation, Steve brought up an option I didn't think was possible, let alone on the table, so I asked if he could actually do it...he said he could do anything with a bike. The Bike Stand is the best repair shop you will find. There is no better place that you will find. Everyone, Erik in particular, is very kind, helpful, and knowledgeable. They were in constant communication with me and were able to fix my antique (1983) 10 speed bike. They went out of their way to try to find a rear wheel for me because it is no longer made. I ended up buying it on ebay and dropped the wheel off at the Bike Stand. They had it fixed in less than an hour and charged me a more than fair price. They went out of their way to fix it quickly because I was not able to find a new bike to purchase due to the Covid bike shortage. I would have either had to have waited until September to have one delivered or paid over $600 for the same type of bike. I accidentally ran over the rear wheel with my SUV and workers at The Bike Stand did NOT make me feel like an idiot. Lastly, they have great hours and you can walk ride in as long as you have a mask on. read more

Took my bike out for the first time in a while, and the rear shifter was jammed. Thought I needed a new cable so I brought it here because there were good reviews. The guy was really nice, put my bike up on the stand, messed with a couple things on the back of the bike and suddenly it was shifting. He was just as surprised as me. I wished I lived closer to the shop. I would hang out there all the time. Steve knows everything there is to know about bikes, and he can do anything mechanical you can imagine. He is such a friendly, fair-minded chap, it is easy to speak with him about almost anything, while his share of bike lore is as good as it gets. The claim that Steve's prices are "ultra high end" is absurd, for I have never found him to charge anything but what an item or repair costs, while his expert labor often is discounted. His experience on the bike and off makes his advice on what to get reliable and money-saving, and he will actually save you money if you listen to him, instead of going for the latest high-end pitch from the magazines and their advertisers. Steve also can build you almost anything, for his shop is replete with tools and odds and ends dating back who knows how long. Old line outfits like The Bike Stand deserve your patronage and support, and I would urge anyone in the area to drop by and get to know Steve and his shop. You will not be disappointed! read more

This company should have 5 Stars every time. It might take a few seconds, maybe a minute to realize, and definitely after services rendered. My visit starting with concerns and escalated to confidence in about 31 seconds. I needed my bike fixed just before a Triathlon (two weeks out). Not a problem and the fix was complicated. I needed a "frame artisan". Found him. Then my bike frame crumbled (after the race which was fine though sad) and YES miracles with bikes can happen. A new frame, with the entire package transplanted. Can't say enough about this business. Buy a used bike. Probably better than anything new sold in this shop, just because.... read more

horrible. high prices. Put CST czar tires on my bike. These are 10 dollar tires that are pure garbage. They have no tread on them and cant be ridden in the rain. They are prone to flats. Read the reviews on this garbage. Charged me 300 for basic repairs never called me for authorization. Changed my rear cassette when I had a new one sitting in the house which I could have used. read more
