I went to this place 2 years ago and had no trouble reserving a room. Things have changed since then. There is no transparency for room rates here and this gives a business an opportunity to swindle you. I originally had a party of 10 people and confirmed a reservation 2 weeks ahead of the time reserved. I was told to pay $100 deposit in addition to the $100/hr rate for the room. There is no clarity if that deposit can be refunded or what the policy is on the website or readily available to customers when they are on site. I discovered that this deposit is non-refundable, which is unfortunate that I had to eat that cost. Unfortunately, my party of 10 went down to a party of 6 due to funerals, COVID, and other uncontrollable circumstances. I tried calling several times prior to the reservation (Sunday and Wednesday before the Saturday reserved time) I was told on my final call speaking with the manager that since the group had reduced to 6 people they could put us at $50/hr in the small room. However, when I showed up, I was told that we were still in the $80/hr and there was no changing that. Also, we had a lot of technical difficulties. Wireless microphone receivers were not charged, so we kept getting disconnected. We had to change mics 3x when we were there. The employees were doing their best and were as accommodating as they could be, but ultimately the management is faulty. Transparency is important and this place does not have it. Also, I was not told tip was included. I usually tip 20% because times are tough and places don't pay their employees enough, but did not get an itemized receipt before this interaction. So I tipped an additional amount without knowing. read more

Buckle in for a crazy ride, folks: I booked a room at Maru for 8 people at $55/hr. Albeit, I admit 11 ended up coming and I would've been totally fine with the $10 fee for additional people. After paying, we discovered they had charged a WHOPPING $120/hr (more than DOUBLE). When confronted, the front desk guy lied about showing me two rooms and that I requested the room for 15-18 people. That NEVER HAPPENED and I have 3 witnesses AND the security camera caught that. He even tried to threaten showing me the security footage like, please, prove me right actually. Also, my friend told me that the guy was insulting me the whole time when I wasn't talking to him on the phone, clearly because I was not there in person (he also just hung up on me during the discussion). Even during the refund process, when we were only trying to pay the real $55/hr rate, they STILL tried to haggle saying "fee this, fee that". There are so many things I could've gotten upset about, but literally all I cared about was the promised upon rate. Was I mad about the limited discography? No. Was I mad about the undisclosed gratuity? No. I merely wanted what we were rightfully owed. Simple as that. Then, to still try to negotiate out of paying us back PLUS being heavily insulted PLUS trying to threaten me?!? What is happening?!? Overall this was an exhausting experience during a time that was supposed to be one of celebration. This place operates DISHONESTLY and WITHOUT ANY RESPECT for customers. read more

This place is ok. They have a limited drink menu, a few beers, some soju, a few wines. The food is nothing to write home about, mostly fried or microwaved stuff. I am pretty sure the $13 ramen I got was a $0.69 cent pack from Kroger. The karaoke rooms are decent, but if you are looking for American pop songs, they don't have a large selection and not the newest songs. Cool spot to go for karaoke! Great for large groups as well. I organized a work outing and we came to Maru. There were 12 of us and we got the large room. It was a cold night and the staff had the heater on before we got in and turned it off upon arrival. Nice touch! Unfortunately our singing, dancing around, and drinking led to us warming up the room a little too much. There were big fans in the room which we turned on! I'm sad to say I never even asked them if they could turn on the AC. The couches in the rooms have seen better days. A few of them didn't have the proper support so when you sit in them you'd sink. Ordered drinks at the small bar in the lobby and we were charged all together at the end of the night. It was fun to navigate the large remote/keyboard. There are plenty of English songs, but be aware they are all in the pop genre. There were buttons for Bluetooth connection, so I suppose you could connect your phone, but we didn't use that feature. It wasn't long before they were singing and rapping their nostalgic middle school songs right with me! We also ordered the special alcoholic drink they had, I can't remember what it was called but it was delicious! I befriended a large group of cute young people in the Korean restaurant next door and they dragged me over here to do some karaoke. They didn't realize I was a professional singer so I tried not to sound to professional. Which isn't hard for me because I'm not really that professional don't tell anyone it's a secret. It's not the cheapest karaoke I've ever been to but the system works fine and it has plenty of songs, especially if you are wanting to sing some Asian music or some pop hits. It's definitely a fun place to have a fun time and it's cool that Indianapolis has a place like this for the Korean community and for everybody else. read more

Overly priced and they won't even print an itemized receipt just some note paper the lady with the white hair will write on and then they'll demand for a 10% "tip" after bringing in food on cheap paper plates and charging 9.99 for 1 packet of ramen in a bowl that they microwaved? Not even ramyeon. $15 for 5 dry unseasoned chicken wings and not to mention they apparently ran out of spicy sauce so you're left eating wings that have little to no flavor besides the grease on them. Not to even mention the music catalog is badly outdated. The alcohol selection is $5 soju that they'll audaciously charge $25 a bottle for. Bad business practice. What a fun time! Spent my birthday here for 3 hours with a group of 9 and it was a blast. We didn't get any food, but she made sure to give each of us chilled glasses as soon as we walked in. This was refreshing but a bit odd! It felt like the karaoke joints I frequent back home! They serve alcohol aka "singing in front of people bravery serum" and even snacks. They have some pretty recent songs in English and even have tambourines so those who aren't holding mics can get in on some of the fun! There are party lights in the room and the karaoke system is easy to use. The only odd thing is that they weren't open during the posted hours. I was there at six but they weren't there until about 30 mins later which was inconvenient. They had songs from artists like Journey to Blink 182 and even recent songs like Sam Smith's "Lay Me Down". It was a lot of fun and you could probably squeeze in 8 people and sing for an hour for only $25 bucks! In a private room!!! I know this much... girls like music and dancing. You take em on a date here and show them how to have fun and let loose and not be shy and timid and they might find that more attractive than your face! Go on... give it a try! And it's a private room so you don't have to be embarrassed. It's not about singing GREAT, it's about having fun and just singing and letting loose and releasing your inner rock star. I did not patronize this business, but I did visit in order to look around and ask questions. So I'm going to give them a neutral 3 stars. This is mainly a private Karaoke place where you rent the Karaoke room and equipment by the hour for your group. You don't have to order food if you don't want to. They have several smaller sized rooms for 8 to 12 people, and a couple big rooms for up to 40 people. Each room comes with it's own Karaoke equipment, player, speakers, TV, mikes, etc, and tons of their standard Asian (Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Korean) karaoke music. You can take in your own karaoke discs. They have a limited menu (that includes sushi) of mainly appetizer kind of stuff, but you could make a dinner or party out of it. I forget the prices, so call and check. They are open really late, like 1:00 am, and something like 2 or 3 am on the weekends. They also have a very small dining area and bar up front with a TV. If I understood correctly, all the food that they serve comes from the Bando restaurant just a couple doors down, so for a small party you could theoretically get anything on Bando's menu. Make sure you call ahead of time and check hours and availability before telling your friends to meet you there. And if you are going to get the large room, or order a lot of food, call at least a day in advance. Another option for karaoke with Korean food is at Mama's House, further up (NE) on Pendleton Pike. They have one large side room with karaoke equipment, (with all the standard Korean grills at each table) and it's use is free with a minimum size group if everyone orders dinner. They will explain how it works if you are new. They have a menu with yummy food and drinks. The bathroom, kitchen and karaoke room are very clean. The food is delicious! They have alcoholic drinks if you need that liquid courage before you start your karaoke :) one of my friends forgot something and the owner brought it to our car! Spent Friday night at Maru Studio singing our hearts out. JD was running the desk and was super helpful. Made our reservation by phone, showed us how the system worked, and brought cold drinks quickly. Also offered to give us 30 minutes free. The setup is essentially a u-shaped booth with two corded mics and handheld controllers to choose your songs. Songs are all from 2005 or before, with some old and new tunes. A few things were disappointing (Rollin on the River wasn't the Tina version... fail) but all in all we had a blast and found some really great music. The technology is a little outdated and the rooms are far from soundproof, but once you get your songs going it's more about having a good time with friends. We worked out a lot of emotion on those mics! For $25 an hour, it's actually a really cheap night out with friend. Apparently if you call ahead you can order pizza or bring snacks but not drinks. Domestic beers are around $3 (no craft beer, unfortunately) and iced tea and water is also available. It does get very hot in these rooms so wear layers. We spent about two hours (4 people). I sometimes travel off to a special place where I am a pop star. Thanks to Maru Studio, I can do this outside of the confines of my car! I love Maru Studio! Any fan of karaoke will have a blast here. It's $25/hr to rent a room and you can accommodate quite a few people into one room. Then the owner gives you a quick run through of how to use the remote (that is in Korean!) and leaves you to be. We tend to spend about two hours there whenever we go, but if you had a group of ten it's a steal for a night of fun. There is a drink menu, with my favorite Korean sake on it, and some small tidbits of food to eat. I would suggest eating before going though, because the menu is slim. read more

This place was just OK. I went here Saturday evening with a group of about 20 people. We called ahead and reserved a room for 10pm. When we showed up we were told there was a group finishing up in that room and they would just be a couple minutes. This way irritating at first since we pay by the hour. By the time 10:20pm rolled around, it started to get ridiculous. We had already paid for the 10pm hour, so our money was being wasted. After encouraging the workers to kick the other group out of our RESERVED room, we were finally able to sit down and start the fun. We enjoyed the large selection of songs to pick from and there were two mics to sing from; however, the room got very hot with all of us in there. I had my birthday party here in June. It was on a night where Indy was battered by an insane thunderstorm, and when we got to Maru, we found out that the power was partially out so there were 2 critical things that were not going to be available. 1 was air conditioning, 2 was the credit card machine. So I was in a panic trying to call and text everyone to let them know it was cash only. There was also only one guy working and I am not sure he realized how many people were coming to my party, even though I had told him that there was going to be like 25 people there. So service was slow. HOWEVER, even with those major snafus, we still had an amazing evening. Maru is a Korean style Karaoke parlor - aka Noraebang and having recently visited Seoul, I can vouch that it's authentic. You can rent a small room for up to 10 people or a large room for up to 20 by the hour. It's private and you can get as loud and obnoxious as you want - the rooms are soundproof so when the door is closed, no one can hear your paying homage to "Total Eclipse of the Heart." The rooms are smoke free, but you are able to smoke in the lobby area if you so desire. We were able to order Korean food from Bando, and were served in our private room, and it was delicious. They also serve beer and wine and soju - and once everybody was sufficiently sauced, the fact it was hotter than hell in there didn't matter so much. Everyone had so much fun belting out the tunes! You get a quick tutorial on how to use the karaoke remote - it's all in Korean so that was helpful. The owner also opened up a second room for us on the house, and gave us a great discount on the room rental for the inconveniences, and I appreciated that. I am looking forward to a return trip where hopefully the climate is under control and the credit card machine is operating so I can up my review to 4 stars. First, let me say I am a huge kpop fan. Also let me say this is the 2nd noraebang I've been to other than one in Orlando, also my second time at one. Since we moved to Indianapolis I'm thrilled to live in a town with a noraebang! My husband & I decided to check it out last night & were there 2.5 hours XD the lady only charged us for 2 thank goodness. It's funny, we think we can fake our way through kpop songs until we get there & it's a midi version that doesn't sound like the song at all. The song we did best on was m-flo Miss You since we both know it pretty well still. After that we faked best Block B's Freeze, B1A4's OK, hubby did Sechskies Come Back, then I rocked Miss A's Love Alone, and we both did some Big Bang and more. The lady there was either amused or found it interesting that we were singing Korean songs mostly. I'm sure the group of Korean dudes at the bar totally heard us and we sounded terrible. I found this adorable little nook in Indianapolis while on vacation and I ended up going twice. Both hosts were very generous and friendly, and offered free popcorn and an adorable little fruit tray while I was in. There's an entire phone book's worth of songs you can sing, and while many are in Korean, there's also a treasure trove of Japanese songs including anime series favorites and popular pop/rock tunes as well. I stayed a total of 4 hours across both nights, and the owners were extremely accommodating and friendly. We had a large, spacious room and the equipment worked fantastically. The sound system was excellent, and everything was extremely clean. Pricing is very reasonable at $25/hr so you can go in and sing your heart out as long as you want without breaking the bank. I was new to the establishment, and I got a full rundown of how everything works when I went in, which I really appreciated. It really doesn't get much better than this if you're looking for a private karaoke room, and I plan on making the trip a ton more times to visit this location in particular. This place is a lot of fun! You can rent a private room for you and your friends to sing karaoke. We went with a group of 8 and were given the smallest room. It held us well but the table around the couch was so big that you couldn't get out from behind the table to stand up and sing. So we just passed the mic around. We did have trouble with our microphones and had to have them switched out but the gentleman working there was very accommodating and nice. Downside is the room was very hot! Stifling almost. We were allowed to open the door for the first hour because no other customers were there but we eventually had to close it. The selection of English songs is pretty big but it's mostly earlier stuff. Id say the most recent songs are from the mid 2000s. So a bit of a bummer that the songs aren't current. However you can bring in your own karaoke CDs! At the end of the night we asked the guy working at the bar to sing a song for us which he obliged happily and had a wonderful voice! All and all the night was a blast and I look forward to going back. read more
