Daily Dinner Specials
Jim C.

Went to Whisky Business for lunch. I ordered a pizza and my wife the Fried Chicken Salad off the lunch menu. The lunch menu is offered daily and includes a selection of meal options and a soda for $10. The portions are large and it's a good deal. Our server was prompt and attentive but not extremely knowledgeable or helpful, initially. It was a Saturday and an IU game day so I asked for the mini Coors beer pitcher for $7.50. I was told that was the special on Thursdays. I pointed out there was a poster on their wall indicating it was Saturday IU game days. She said she was not told that was the special today but she'd ask. She came back and said the special was Thursdays. Again I pointed out the posted and again she said she had not been told that was the special. I did not get the mini pitcher of beer. The pizza was good ... more a traditional pizza and crust. The salad was good but it was all iceberg lettuce (and a few rib pieces). We will return. Just wish they'd more readily honor their advertising.

I am so mad at myself for living next to WB for a decade and never going in! Live music Good food Pool tables Darts Bar This is a great place to hang out if you don't feel like venturing to Broad Ripple or Downtown. I ordered this cocktail colada that was really good! Not sure how much alcohol was in it, but I liked the sweetness and it was only $7. Then I got a side of loaded fries. They were seasoned and cheesy! And finally I ordered a cheesecake brownie. So good! I came just to talk with some girlfriends so I didn't order a full meal, but I definitely will next time!

I did a pickup order from this establishment and my order was ready at the exact time they said it would be. The staff were very friendly and attentive when I came inside to grab my order which consisted of The Pickle Cruncher, BLT Supreme, and Yum Yum Shrimp. Everything was hot and delicious. I especially loved how big the Pickle Cruncher sandwich was. This place is right around the corner from my house, so I will definitely frequent there more often.

Somewhere east of Indy is a Whiskey Business. We walk in and find ourselves standing in a room confused to as if we were to talk to someone to seat us but find out, this is a bar so seat yourselves. Oh, here is a booth. Let's sit there. Lady comes over and said let me wipe off the table. She take a sopping wet hand towel and 'cleans' our table. I think this is normal and thank her for doing such an act. I got a Long Island and hubs gets a rum and coke. Pretty good after a few sips. Order fish and chips and an island burger. Food was not the reason we came here. It was actually a surprise from my hubs as this is a date night. Well, we arrived late on a Friday because there was live music at 9:30p and didn't want to fight for a spot to sit. There were empty tables when the band started to play. Just the facts! Got a few more beers in and it made sense: this is in east no mans land Indy. Who cares what you are wearing, who cares what you do for a living, who cares: come here for no judgement and a loud time. You won't be disappointed.

This food is surprisingly amazing!! We had the bone in wings with buffalo garlic sauce. Wowzers!! Then we had the smash burgers with fries and beer cheese. Again, wowzers!!! The only thing questionable was the ambience. It's dark and dingy. But we would be back (before darkness) LOL

Crunch Wrap

Oh my crunch wrap! I loved this menu item. I ordered it medium and it was cooked to perfection AND the fries were hot. I measure a restaurant's value based upon hot fries, and they have yet to disappoint!

It's a sports bar so I give it a solid 3 1/2 but I'm rounding up. Didn't know what to expect with a name Whiskey Business somehow I thought it was a more upscale place but it's actually a sports bar. So with that it gets a 4. They have a variety of whiskey, but no menu because they said their Whiskey rotates and they never know what they may have. They have about 15 TVs and we came during college football time so there were a variety of gaMes being shown including football and basketball. What I found interesting is the diverse crowd. Young, old, white, black, Asian, Hispanic and everyone seemed to be at home with no judgement. My kinda place. Drinks come with a nice pour and very nice bartenders. We ordered food, the boneless wings and fries. The sauce for the wings were great (hot garlic and jerk) and the fries were non-breaded which are my favorite. There are several pool tables and dart boards so there's something to do if you aren't into just sitting. They also have a touch tunes jukebox and an ATM. I imagine on Sundays this place is swamped because of all the TV's so come early!

Our waitress was great! Extra friendly and helpful. We started with the loaded waffle fries. I forgot to get a photo, but they were delicious. For our meals, we had the Buffalo Chicken Sandwich, the Cajundillas and the Boom Boom Shrimp tacos. Everything is full of flavor. Good portion sizes. I started with the alligator bites appetizer, followed by the ribeye sliders and fries, and finished with an espresso martini. The sliders were tender, flavorful, and seasoned well. The alligator bites were crispy and not chewy. The espresso martini had a great coffee flavor with a hint of sweetness that not only quenched my thirst but served as my dessert as well.

This place has been a hit with my "21+" family due to the great food, great location, and usually good service. Minors are not allowed. Our most recent visit yesterday had less than awesome service but maybe she was having a bad day. The building is old with lots of wood paneling ... very comfy. I love the small town feel!! The restaurant vibe reflects the town. Everyone is very welcoming. I didn't catch bartenders name, but she was very friendly to everyone at her bar. She told us her favorites on the menu. I appreciated her knowledge about the restaurant and the menu. The bar area seemed a little dark, but that actually enhanced the experience of an old bar. We only sat in the bar area, I believe there is additional seating in another room, but I didn't look. I opted for a grilled tenderloin and a cup of beer cheddar jalapeño cheese soup. The sandwich's are Ala carte. The sandwich was bigger than I expected, that would have been enough for lunch. The trick with grilled tenderloin is that many times it is over cooked, so it is dry. This was cooked to perfection; cooked but still moist. The sandwich, with the "garden" was awesome. Now to the soup. I think she said they use wee Mac as the beer. The jalapeño was puréed. There was crispy bacon crumbled on top; I did not care for the bacon. The soup was odd to me as I was eating it. Because of the texture, it reminded me of corn chowder. There was a little spice/flavor from the jalapeño. What was odd to me, was it didn't wow me like I thought it would, but I kept eating it. So in the end, I think I really liked it bc I ate all of it!!! The menu is not large, but has a good variety for its size. The desserts were impressive, I just didn't have room for it. I could easily become a regular there!!

Serving temp was excellent, not mouth blistering, but not cool or cold like some have been I enjoyed the shotgun shrimp. Very tasty and satisfying. It could have used a little more kick, but my wife thought it was quite spicy so perhaps it was good. I just like it to tickle my mouth a little more. My wife loved her salad, crisp lettuce and the dressing was good Overall, a nice evening. The two things that would have moved my rating up to 5 would have been no gristle in the meat (we've been to 3 other places on this Trail and this was the only one that had gristle) and the background music made it difficult to talk. It has been over ten years since my original review of Fort Ben Pub, a locally owned pub and grill…read moretype establishment located in the Fort Ben area in the same strip center that includes Moo & Lou's Ice Cream and Phaya Thai. There's a wheelchair ramp in the middle of the building - I'll be honest, I don't quite trust it as I've noticed people in this parking area tend to block it without noticing it. There's also easy access from a ramp at the end of the building. Lawrence has done quite a bit to improve their curb cuts in this area, an area that has grown massively since my last review including 2-3 apartment buildings, a library branch, and an improved civic plaza. Fort Ben Pub itself is pretty accessible, though it becomes less so when it's packed (for example, my most recent visit was on a Friday karaoke night and accessibility was definitely more limited). There's two glass doors going inside the pub and, yes, they do offer a few tables on the sidewalk for outside dining. As you enter, you arrive in a large dining area with a beautiful bar to the right. The restaurant is decorated in warm woods with a few televisions of varying sizes and, on this evening, background music playing. On this visit, I was with a festival after-party that was placed off the main area in a smaller area that had two pool tables along with a variety of food/appetizers, etc. It's a cozy room that gave me a chance to check out the rest of the building. I did see the restrooms, which I would definitely not consider accessible - plan accordingly. I could possibly get in the door of the men's restroom, but it was quite tight and I have a smaller chair. This is a beloved place for a friend of mine who lives nearby and within walking distance. They treat her well. She was there during this visit, and I honestly just smiled at their clear affection for her (it's mutual). I love places that become community, and knowing this makes me want to return. That said, my accessibility concerns do somewhat limit my options. Fort Ben Pub does offer space for private events/groups and does catering. They have pool tables, Putt Putt live, Mega Touch, and Golden Tee and most of the sports network channels. While I'd tried both their tenderloin and burger in the past, I had a variety of items this time around due to the after-party, though not everything it seems was on the menu (or I'm just not recognizing it). As I noted previously and my friend also proves, the employees are super friendly and helpful. There are definitely times when it gets busy, though it's also pretty easy to come here during slower times. This particular visit was the first time I'd experienced accessibility issues. There's an awful lot to love here. I have to say that while I wasn't in the room with karaoke, the people were having a blast with such sincere enthusiasm that I was almost in awe. I've done karaoke one time in my life, and I don't think there's enough alcohol in the world to fuel another attempt. I also know from being close to the folks at Moo & Lou that these businesses watch out for each other - which I really like as it's a nice little safety factor. In the end, my star rating isn't changing but my appreciation for Fort Ben Pub has grown. This visit made me want to return in the near future, and it made me grateful for those places where you can get so comfortable that it feels like the people become part of your village. That's Fort Ben Pub.
