I want to like this place because the food has been good but the service is not consistent. I've been there and the person working behind the bar is great and attentive, and other times acts like I'm bothering her. I know we have bad days but when you're paying good money for food and service, it should be consistently good. It's a locals bar so be warned they can get loud and most people appear to know each other. The people who frequent the place have been cool. Just doing brunch with friends. We like to go and try out new things we heard they had a bloody Mary bar so we had to give it a try. The Bloody Mary's were very good with lots of stuff to top them with. Our group were the first ones in very quiet, but by the time we left the place was packed. Our waitress was very friendly and quick. I ordered the lettuce wedge. I was surprised when it came and it was not a wedge. It was a slice. I've never had it like this before I didn't care for it because it was a lot of the center of the lettuce. Hubby got sloppy Joe sliders. We really liked this bar! We decided to go here prior to a concert at Ruoff. We will definitely be stopping here again. The bartender was great, I told her what I like in a cocktail and she made one up for me. We sat at the bar so she was also our waitress. The hubby had a Wee Mac in a can. I started with the soup trio, a flight of soups so you can try all of their soups! My favorite was the chili. I had an order of onion rings along with Ahi Tuna Wontons. The onion rings were nice and crispy and the wontons were super fresh with a tasty sauce. The hubby had the build your own burger along with sweet potato fries. He said it was a good burger. Sheeshhhhh it was our first time here and it is very clear that there are training issues. I told our server that I don't eat pork, then asked how the eggs in purgatory was. She said she had never had it, but I ordered it anyways. After 4 bites in, the flavor was great. Then I realized there was SO MUCH SAUSAGE! Several minutes later, the server stopped by and I explaining that eating pork is against my religion and I simply cannot eat it. I asked if I could have a simple egg and cheese croissant instead. Twenty minutes later, it still hasn't arrived. She went to check on it and brought it out to the table WITH HAM ON IT! I can't make this up! To add insult to injury, she said the manager said he could take 1/2 off the eggs in purgatory. Seriously?! This is one of the biggest offenses a restaurant can do, aside from serving allergens to a person that told you they are allergic to things. At least the chili was good....? read more

My wife and I stopped in for lunch without knowing a thing about this place. Exactly the kind of vibe I was looking for. A nice local bar with good food, where everybody knows your name. The people in the kitchen know what they're doing. We got the giant pretzel, fried cheese curds, and fried green beans. All very nice. I had the Italian beef sandwich. Nicely seasoned beef with some burnt edges, not dry, combined with hot pepper garnish and Mozzarella on a crunchy roll. Along with a generous helping of kettle chips. Worth getting. Unfortunately, around COVID, it became apparent that guys in red hats intentionally coughing on you, then laughing, along their red-hatted brethren, is acceptable to the owner(s). It seems the regulars can be obnoxious to "outsiders." That's okay because their 7% tips on weeknights matter more than a 25% tip on a Friday meal. Ownership likely wasn't presented an obvious choice between obnoxious regulars or 2x month regulars. No such pronouncement. Maybe they just didn't notice. But I just don't like going anymore. The food at AJ's is truly to die for. We had the French Onion sliders and like the menu says, tastes like French onion soup on a bun! We also had the chicken nachos. They had so many toppings with lots of quedo cheese! The service wasn't great. I was pretty disappointed to wait so long for my check and then see that my server was inside just talking. We had waited for a really long time and even asked another waiter to tell her we were ready for the check (we were sitting outside). Eventually, I had to go in and find her to check out. If I went back, I would make sure I would make a point to have a different server. The vibes were great on a nice evening, with the bar garage doors rolled up. As far as Bar and Grills go, this one does a very good job. First of all excellent and attentive service. Kept our drinks filled, checked on food and offered friendly banter. The place was not busy at all on the Tuesday at lunch, but everyone seemed engaged none the less. For a bar and grill, the menu is very large, so just about anyone can find something to satisfy their tastes and restrictions here. My friend and I each had versions of fish sandwiches .. him fried fish sliders and me a catfish po'boy. They were pretty much the same things, just different shapes. But, most important, fresh and tasty, as were the sides. Hope to go back someday to try a few more items. Where the story takes another positive turn is that I wrote the restaurant an email about a particular subject later that afternoon, and the manager replied to me with a very complete answer. Random evening turned into a positive family experience! After our martial arts class, our family was starving and walked down the strip to find AJs bar and grill! Unsure kids were allowed, they are on the left side of the restaurant, and had some pretty tasty meals. My son loves fish and chips and it's all he craves - he gave them 5 stars and said very similar to our trips to FL! My daughter ordered the pretzel and yes, it's a large as it looks in the picture! My husband enjoyed the burger and tots, and my friend and I sat on the R side enjoying the bacon tots and adult bevvies. The staff is always polite and you can tell it has that family friendly group. Ohhh yeah, my kinda place. Prices were very reasonable, menu was fun and had a variety of unique meals, and my food was delicious! We tried AJ's the other night, and I was impressed! The vibe of this place is great, I assumed it would be like a dive bar but it's definitely cleaner and more organized than I was expecting. It's a relaxed atmosphere where you don't need to dress up, but you can still expect quality food and service. Our server was nice and we didn't have to wait long to be greeted at our table. We got our drinks pretty quickly as well, which I appreciated. I ordered the Beef Stroganoff and my fiancé got a burger, both were very good! This has been by far the worst experience I've ever had at a restaurant. We came on a Tuesday night which was their Steak Special, my mother was so excited to get it, I had gotten the Chicken Tenders. We walked in not knowing it was seat yourself so we waited, which was okay. We sat down, waited probably 15 minutes before a server came over to us, which shows how inefficient the "seat yourself" is on a very busy night, servers aren't sure who's new and who's not. Ordered our food and drinks at the same time. Only one of us got our food, which was good, my mother who had got the steak special waited 20 extra minutes for her steak to come out, when the manager came by he asked everyone around how their food was, never once acknowledged us, we had to flag him down and ask out the other order of food and he just oh just one minute, it was in fact more than one minute, roughly 5 minutes. We did not see our server from the time we order our food to the time we paid the bill. Needless to say we will not be dining here again, the service was such a disappointment read more

Been to AJ's a few times. Food is very good, menu has several choices salads, burgers, pizza, chicken, pork, seafood & steak. It has that classic neighborhood bar vibe with a brighter and cleaner feel. Lots of TVs with a variety of different sports are always on. Bands on the weekends are also great entertainment. In the years of coming here, the service has always been the problem. The servers are always friendly, but timeliness of order delivery has always been the problem. Tonight, the appetizer didn't show up until after our meal was half completed. As we discovered, our app was delivered to a different table causing the delay. Understood and excused, unfortunately, this has always been the problem. What a shame, everything else here is really good. Will surely give AJ's yet another opportunity. read more

It's definitely more of a watering hole than a restaurant. There were about 20 people in there when I visited, and I was the only person on the "restaurant side". It looks like a place for locals- everyone at the bar was talking, and there were a couple of tables of 4-5 people. I tried their breaded tenderloin with onion rings and cinnamon apples. The tenderloin was hand-breaded, with the breading falling off. It was large, and a little bit on the greasy side. I cut the tenderloin in half and made a double-decker out of it. The onion rings had similar breading, but tasted ok. The apples were a disappointment. They were almost mushy- no crispness left to them at all, and I couldn't taste any cinnamon. They looked kind of gray. I'm guessing these don't get ordered very often. It took quite a while to order my food, and I only got one refill of my drink. All of the attention was in the busy bar area. The waitress was very pleasant when I ordered- she just seemed overly busy taking care of the bar. Not her fault. Overall the place was very clean, but noisy. Lots of hooting and hollering from the bar area, and I heard a homophobic slur shouted out at least twice. Maybe not the most welcoming environment to some folks, and probably not something you would want kids to hear. It says "family friendly" on the front door, but what I saw/ heard makes that a debatable claim. It was a pretty rowdy bunch in the bar for a Wednesday at 4pm. Hopefully this behavior is not the norm. One couple sat down in the restaurant area before I left, and they seemed to be getting much quicker service than I did. I spent $30.18 (including tip), which seems a little bit expensive for what I got. Overall I give it 3/5, pretty average. I took a star away for the greasiness of the tenderloin and the overly loud bar area with rude comments clearly audible from anywhere in the "family friendly" restaurant. read more

I learned the margaritas are from a bottle, to me that's not a bar. My fiancé got the smash burger (which was good and has been both times we were here). I got the ribeye steak, medium. I think we may have found our new 'Cheers' hangout/dinner spot -- you know, "Where everybody knows your name and they're always glad you came" as the lyrics go. :) After seeing positive reviews from a local Facebook foodies group, we decided to visit AJ's to see if the hype was true. [Actually, all it took to convince Hubby was great comments for their meatloaf as well as their chili.] We sat at the bar and observed lots of regulars interacting with each other as well as the restaurant staff which gave a fun & friendly vibe (i.e., points for atmosphere). Service was attentive and the food exceeded our expectations. We decided to go with the fried chicken livers appetizer (from the Specials menu), bowl of Kevin's Kicked Up Chili, Chef Paul Prudhomme's Cajun Meatloaf with street corn as the side and the Shrimp & Cheesy Grits with a side salad. Everything was fresh, flavorful, seasoned well and plated nicely. Portions were substantial -- we each ended up getting three meals out of our respective entrées! So suffice it to say, AJ's definitely lived up to the social media hype! We are looking forward to returning soon and perhaps joining the 'regulars' club. read more
