We are frequent walk up customers of Dairy Dan. It's good enough that the boyfriend and I are willing to risk our lives running across the 5-lane expressway, sorry, street, that is Wayne Road to get to it. They do have a drive up, but the whole thing about summer is getting out in the nice weather to walk to get ice cream, is it not? Pretty standard soft serve fare, although they do have a lot of sundae and "flurry" flavors. I'm a hot fudge sundae kinda girl, and the boyfriend usually gets a flurry. I think he tried the mint chocolate oreo flurry last time and was very happy with it. Service is quick and friendly. I'd give them a 5, but I'm pretty sure they've gotten the size of our order wrong a few times. "Didn't I order a small? This is huge!" But, I mean, more ice cream than you asked for, is that really such a bad thing? read more

My family and I absolutely love this place and have been coming for years! In terms of service, quality, etc., this place gets 5 stars. However, I had to give this place 4 stars since they have removed their drive thru menu. It is almost impossible to see their options when driving thru, especially before they come to get your order (they're super speedy!). meh. i liked this place at first because their flurries are great and consistent. however, i just can't ever seem to have a good experience here anymore. they always advertise things and get rid of them super quickly. i was also given the wrong order once, but that's not a big deal due to the fact that it was a misunderstanding and the girl who rang me up was new. some of the girls can be pretty snotty. you can get better service elsewhere. there was one occasion where i asked for vanilla cone, and i hadn't even been cashed out yet, mind you the drive thru line was super long and i asked if she could change it to strawberry instead. the girl making my ice cream quickly yelled back to her saying, "it's too late i already started it". what kind of service is this? just remake the damn thing! it's not that hard. i definitely won't be back to this place. i would rather go to the custard hut or the other dairy dan on ford road. read more

My favorite ice cream store around! Such a better value than Dairy Queen and much tastier. My favorite items are the banana pudding flurry and the strawberry shortcake sundae. I love the drive thru option, even when it is a madhouse in the summer. Staff is usually very kind, even when rushing. Also it looks like the feed a couple of feral cats near their dumpster. I'm tempted to give this place three stars, on account of their parking lot being RIDICULOUS on nice nights, but the service is always pretty decent, and the ice cream /smoothies are consistently good. I have to say Marv (?), the owner is very nice. He happened to be in town from Florida with his wife (the sign said so), &he was standing outside watching the crazy lines of cars coming in their teeeeny parking lot. I was not thinking &parked in their lot on a nice summer evening.. big mistake! After we had received our order, there was a huge lineup to get in the drive-thru, meaning cars literally backed up onto Wayne Road. It took me nearly a half-hour to get out of there, despite inching backwards, &having my foot on the brake &the car in reverse for a good majority of the time. Drivers were just plain rude, or simply too transfixed on the thought of eating flurries to pay attention.. Luckily, the owner was standing there &eventually came over to help stop traffic as the drive-thru line progressed, so that I could back out of my parking spot to get out of the lot. (Even though he did ask if I could back out with such a tight clearance between the drive-thru line &the next car coming in off of Wayne, or if my boyfriend should do it.. not cool, dude.) It was nuts. Next time, I need to remember to park on the side street, even if the line doesn't look too bad!! Also know that their portions are HUGE! Especially for flurries. Slow service. Super rude. After waiting forever we ordered (me and my three kids). Family behind us orders next. After waiting for a while a hand pops out of the window with a twist with sprinkles. I ordered a small and it looked pretty big, but we were next and that is what I ordered. They hand out the next ice cream and my little man walks up and goes I didn't order that. For whatever reason the people who ordered after us were getting their ice cream first. I apologized, both families laughed and pretty much was not a big deal. So as they finally start handing us our ice cream the manager makes it a point to tell my wife in front of everyone that you ordered a small and took a medium that belonged to another customer. Noooooo. Really? Yeah, we plotted to steal a size up ice cream and scam the system. The plan almost worked perfectly if it wasn't for that meddling ice cream manager. Maybe you don't hand out ice cream out of order at random. Maybe you look and pay attention who you are giving it to and not assume when there are tons of people waiting that one of the most commonly ordered ice creams is just handed out of a window that everyone will use their psychic powers to know who it belongs to. Trying to reprimand my wife in front of a crowd and our kids that I was given a medium and not a small and TOOK ANOTHER CUSTOMERS ICE CREAM was out of line. I didn't steal the last insulin shot from a diabetic or try to go thru the express lane with 100 groceries (those people should serve prison time). I accidentally grabbed the wrong ice cream, so please forgive me. I'll make sure to share this on Facebook and other social media. A bunch of teenage girls with no supervision and training. Instead of not understanding my simple order of a flavored slushy with ice cream. She asked if it was a boston cooler. I said im not sure what the nane of it is but its a slushy with ice cream. I received a confused face and a 10 minute wait to only receive vanilla ice cream with flavoring half ass mixed in. Even if she thought it was a Boston cooler which consist of soda, I didn't even get that. This is the second time I've received service similar to this. If your not sure what the customer wants, you don't guess. This crew has no future beyond ice cream and even then they can barely do that until the owner cares to have proper training and staff that cares. Dairy Dan won't have trouble getting customers in the summer but it did lose one and any other person I can stop from going. read more

I love the quality and quantity of the ingredients for their flurry! We've always had quick service and the staff are great. However, be careful in the parking, try the drive through! the owner of this establishment does not give refunds but takes the products back that they make for customers. The "manager" or key holder as she called herself let her crew talk to customers in the situation that was going on instead of her coming to the window. julie the owner was called a few times and would not answer her phone for a customer but would answer for staff. owner blocked number instead of handling a situation at her establishment. we wanted a medium ice cream and the staff states that they no longer carry medium but when we got the ice cream it was in a medium cup but charged for a large. so their large cups are the size for medium but charged for a large ice cream. staff decided it was okay to sit there and text and laugh at us as we asked for a refund due to not getting our product. "Manager and owner" said no refunds it's their policy. all staff thought it was okay to treat customers with disrespect and rudeness. and when I tried to get an explanation from the "manager" on duty one of her staff was standing next to her making snark comments and I asked if she was a manager, I was told she was not one and I asked the manager to ask her to leave because I was talking to hee about the situation. that's when the "manager" said shes not a manager shes a key holder. so this establishment has no manager on duty while owner is on vacation. staff was very rude as I was jutat trying to get an answer after my group was told no refunds. never in my life have i ever had such disrespect from a place of business and have an owner not even handle the situation. instead just let it get out of hand for a couple dollars from two orders. that's a little crazy in my opinion. I have worked in fast food my whole life and have never treated a customer the way I was treated tonight. It is Saturday January 28th 2017 at 9:00 P.M., I made a visit with a friend as we usually do. My order mostly consists of two cones and I "ALWAYS" give at least a $ tip even for one cone. I guess this evening I made a mistake and said a large Vanilla cone instead of Chocolate but did not realize it until she was handing me my cone. I said "did I say vanilla"? She said yes you did! I was going to place it in the trash can at the end of the drive through but could not reach it so I backed up and handed it to her and ask her to discard it for me. She had two opportunities to ask if she could make me another cone, but did not. I have been a customer of Dairy Dan's for years and this was the bottom of poor customer service. I do not know the person's name that waited on me, but she knows me by face from many visits, and tips. This is not how you treat a good customer. read more

We are two grown women (not young troublemakers trying to take advantage) who came to your establishment for a simple chocolate soda. I'm sure your teenager "manager" will well remember us. We won't forget her, as we have never experienced such poor customer service in our lives. We ordered two medium chocolate sodas and we received basically two chocolate shakes with NO discernible ice cream on top. After taking literally ONE sip we realized it was nothing like a soda and asked for a refund. She said she "called her manager" and was told she could not give us a refund because "that's how we make our sodas" and she said "besides you already drank some" (literally ONE sip which quickly showed us that the entire soda was mixed up like a shake). She also said we were lying when we said there was no ice cream on top. If you tell me you are selling sundaes and hand me an ice cream cone and say "that's how we make them", I'm going to request a refund as well. But it went way past that with her yelling at us -- stating "we don't just give refunds to anyone who asks", and "that's how you make a soda and we have always made them like that" (not true & she's definitely not old enough to know that). Then after yelling at us she not only kept our "sodas" but also kept our money and proceeded to slam and lock the window on us. She should not be running your store and knows absolutely nothing about customer service. I am a supervisor at a drug store and if anyone ever treated a customer like that they would be gone. I don't want anything from you at this point but wanted to let you know I will never be back and will make sure my friends and family stay away as well. Also, just for your enlightment, here is a recipe I googled so you will know how a chocolate soda is actually made (the ENTIRE thing is never mixed together - which is why they call it a SODA and not a SHAKE - and YES, it does make a difference!) And by the way, my parents once owned an ice cream shop in the Traverse City area. You're a ice cream shop for heaven's sake - know your business & especially be keenly aware of your employee's behavior. I went up to Dairy Dan and we had to knock on the front glass for someone to come up when she did come up she had a attitude, so I drove around to the drive thur to check on my daughter to see what was taking her so long at the walk up window, the girl at the counter finally came to the window, while I was waiting for her in the drive thur no one else was in the parking lot, or the line, she has the nerve to tell me to move out of the drive thur for other customers, I told her I will move when my daughter get her ice cream, and I also stated to her their is no one behide me, these girls are lazy, and racism. this business needs customer service training It sucks up their I will not return read more

LOVE LOVE LOVE Dairy Dan! Best ice cream & best prices and so much fun. I live out of state and come here multiple times when visiting family. The hot fudge sundae with spanish peanuts is divine (get the whipped cream) & so is the turtle sundae & shakes. The sizes are generous while the prices are so reasonable.
