This area suffers from a lack of good servers and this does affect the service on occasions. If this aspect got nailed it would be a 5*. I'm very disappointed in the service. I ordered to go and the lady on the phone was not helpful or didn't know any of the meals. We picked up our food and it was wrong. They also didn't include any salads which the entrees come with them. We called back and expressed our frustration to have a $50 meal without a salad and she said the manager was busy. I will never go back there again. The food is not that good for the price and the service sucks. Went in late on a Saturday night. Overall giving 4 stars for the pizza and the waitress, Raven. Both were great. The decor was nice, a bit bright though. Had a drink at the bar while we waited for our table. We all ordered Martinis which came up just above halfway in the glass. Martinis are traditionally filled to the top of the glass (look for the meniscus). Either get small glasses or fill the glasses you have, otherwise it looks like you don't know what you are doing. First off, the staff was very welcoming and I really enjoyed the design of the restaurant. Especially the wine room and the brick oven where the pizza is cooked, makes it a nice date night with the girlfriend. My girlfriend had the chicken Alfredo which I feel like it's something that is bought often in an Italian restaurant. I had the Filet canard dinner plate and it was delicious! Parking is an experience but all the good places out here have that problem. The first time I went I got the chicken Marvino's and it was perfect! Grilled chicken with green beans and shallots and potatoes oh boy was I in heaven. Second time we got cheese sticks which where massive but had just enough crisp for the amount of cheese and I also ordered the lobster ravioli served with some kind of wine sauce which I loved I do wish the third time I went that my order was the same as the second time. I wasn't as impressed on my third visit. I felt like it wasn't what I remembered but still good enough to get me to come back for more. The fourth time I went I was probably my last. The hostess and waiters are great but the food has changed since day one. They give you oil and bread but no Parmesan!!! You have to ask for it instead of it being at the table and its grated and i just was all the cheese and i don't want to be judged for it! Lol I ordered the chicken Marvino and honestly.. it tasted like it had been sitting in water then heated up again. Hubby got the pizza and wasn't impressed either. We left full but disappointed. My husband and I have driven down 290 numerous times and noticed this restaurant, so we read up on it and were looking forward to a treat tonight after a long work week and just looking forward to a quiet evening. We walked in and the wait was about 20 minutes. We informed our hostess that we wanted a quiet dinner. She sat us in the room outside the main dinning room. She said this was the only table open. We noticed right away the echo and 2 large parties around us, an 18th bday celebration and a group of 6 women at a table whose laughs were loud and echoed, it made for a terrible experience. We only took a few bites of our dinners and asked for them to be boxed up! We were so disappointed! We loved the ambiance but with so much noise and no consideration when we asked to be moved, we decided to leave. Oh and my chicken had a short blonde hair in it. I am brunette. My husband said his pizza was descent. Truly It was the worst experience of customer service we have experienced. I told my husband outside that if that's the customer experience we were going to have we should of just gone to The Olive Garden. It was a loss not to be able to really experience the restaurant. Ordered 5 items: 1-Lasagna good flavor, good portion, barely warm; 2-Italian Wedding soup, only the meatballs were warm and tasty, the broth and vegetables tasted terrible (dirty water comes to mind) and barely warm; 3-Bread no taste, cold, and the little toasts just have sprinkled garlic powder on top, yuck; 4- House salad, unremarkable; 5-Crab cake, warm and delicious!!!! (but $$$). Wait staff---mediocre. Told waiter that food was cold. He remarked that they were busy....RLY??? Didn't even offer to warm up food. The quality in food and service has seriously declined in the past year. One, the duck ravioli was discontinued which is a shame because that was one of the reasons I liked coming to this restaurant even though I don't live in the area. Two, tonight's service was a shame. Saw the waiter less than a handful of times. He didn't bother to come to the table and check how the food was, offer refills on drinks until the meal was almost finished. Speaking of drinks, I had water but the plastic cup that was used was chipped! Not once, but twice! If you have damaged utensils, why in the world would you continue to use them? It makes no sense. Third, two salads were ordered. A house and a caesar salad. They came out on warm plates which caused the lettuce to wilt. When our order finally came out, it wasn't hot. Why would you put caramelized onions on a pizza?! On the Chicken Marvino, the chicken was warm, but the shrimp and green beans were hot. I thought the shrimp would be gulf shrimp as it states in the menu, but these were smaller shrimp that look like they were frozen. I can already feel myself becoming sick because of what I ate as I head home. It took forever to get a check even after a manager stopped by to ask how things were. We had asked for a to-go box for the pizza and the check. Well it took almost ten minutes before the waiter finally came over with the check and when we asked for the leftovers that the manager took away, the waiter started scrambling around trying to find it. Also, if you have customers sitting with medical equipment, why in the world would you continue to squeeze past the chairs when there is barely any room and continuously bump into the customer?! I also feel horrible for the little girl at the table beside us. It was her birthday and all their waiter did was drop off a piece of dessert and walked away. Didn't bother to sing for her, nothing. I visited Marvino's on yesterday for dinner. I have been to Marvino's several times prior to this and experienced great service. My food and drinks were all great. My server Daniel was awesome, he was very attentive and friendly. However, my reason for commenting is due to our greeting upon arriving. As we walked in, there stood what I would assume was a manager in a stripped shirt on a telephone call. He looked up as we entered the restaurant and even stared at us as we approached the hostess stand but not once did he acknowledge our presence with a side comment that he will be right with us. I looked around and waited patiently as he continued to listen to whomever was on the other line. We stood for maybe 5 mins awkwardly & still he said nothing not even a hand gesture to acknowledge us. It was then when Daniel (later to be known as our server) greeted us and sat us in a booth. This was the choice for a girl's night out. I started with a sangria which was made in house and was excellent. I've then ordered eggplant parmesan along with a wedge salad. Both were excellent and fresh. The desserts are also to die for. Two weeks later my same girl friends and I came for dinner. Again I started with a sangria which is excellent. This time I ordered the chicken parmesan with the wedge salad. Again, the wedge salad was excellent. However the chicken parmesan came out over cooked. I sent it back to the kitchen, which is something I usually would never do. Unfortunately the second time my chicken parmesan came out, it was again over cooked. Not as bad as the first time, but still overcooked and very dry. I was really bummed out, but again most of my choices there have always been very good. Compared to other reviews, I guess we just ordered the wrong items off the menu. I ordered the Eggplant meal and my husband ordered the Chicken Marsala. Really nothing special on either. Mine came with way too much tomato sauce. I had to remove most of it off, to really taste the eggplant. The spaghetti that came on the side was tasteless . It's a shame because the price was fair, but there was really nothing special in the taste. Honestly ,it tasted like jar sauce was just placed on top of both meals. I visited Marvino's for the first time ever this past Thursday night, which also happened to be "steak night". At first I was just going to enjoy the live entertainment and have a drink and an appetizer. However, after watching a steak make its way to another patron, I couldn't resist. I ordered the 16 oz. ribeye (knowing it would be enough for at least another meal or so) and had an El Jimador frozen margarita while I waited. The margarita was perfect, and both JT and Kobie at the bar were attentive and helpful. I was offered bread right away (love their seasoned butter!) and my salad came out after only a few minutes. It was a large house salad (ceasar was an alternate choice) served on a full size dinner plate. It was well plated and was very good. My steak and baked potato came out soon after, and I have to say that it was one of the best steaks I have ever had! It was cooked perfectly as requested (medium) and very juicy and flavorful. I obviously couldn't finish the meal, and it was nicely packaged by the bartender for me to take with me. Although it was a bit more expensive than what I typically spend if I go out to eat alone, it was a great evening and well worth it. The ambience and service at Marvino's were all that I would want/expect, and it was topped off with entertainment by one of Houston's VERY best local artists, Duane Vincent! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and, in fact, have already done so to several friends and family members. If you decide to check them out, try to make it on a night when Duane is there! Noisy and Average Went here for the first time for a friends birthday on a Thursday and was not impressed. We were seated quickly in a nice booth but the place was very noisy so it was hard to talk. Our waiter got to us quickly but we needed a minute to review the wine list. When he came back we ordered a bottle of Valpolicella, a glass of white wine for one guest and some calamari to start. Shortly thereafter the white wine came as did the calamari, which was quite nice, but no red wine. Then our waiter returned to take our order which we were ready to place but he noted that he had forgotten our wine so left without taking our order. Shortly thereafter he returned to tell us that they didn't have any more Valpolicella, so we ordered a bottle of Chianti. He then wanted to run to get us a plate to show us what the special was that evening which none of us were interested in, and finally got our order in. The Cesar salads were OK. I had the Penne Pesto Pasta. Some day I will find a place that can make a real Pesto sauce but it isn't here. The Pesto was a cream version with almost no garlic so very bland. My wife had the chicken picatta which was average. The birthday boy had veal picatta that was overcooked with inedible vegetables and his wife had the short rib ravioli that she said was fine. After dinner we split some nice deserts, a tuxedo cake and creme brulee and I asked for a expresso but the machine wasn't working. An Italian restaurant with no Valpolicella and a non-working expresso machine. Seemed to take forever to finally get the check. It may have been that our waiter was spread too thin that evening as the bus staff and serving waiters seemed good and attentive but our main waiter was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. read more
