I visited Marvino's on yesterday for dinner. I have been to Marvino's several times prior to this and experienced great service. My food and drinks were all great. My server Daniel was awesome, he was very attentive and friendly. However, my reason for commenting is due to our greeting upon arriving. As we walked in, there stood what I would assume was a manager in a stripped shirt on a telephone call. He looked up as we entered the restaurant and even stared at us as we approached the hostess stand but not once did he acknowledge our presence with a side comment that he will be right with us. I looked around and waited patiently as he continued to listen to whomever was on the other line. We stood for maybe 5 mins awkwardly & still he said nothing not even a hand gesture to acknowledge us. It was then when Daniel (later to be known as our server) greeted us and sat us in a booth. From a customer service standpoint, this was the least bit of hospitable and had I not been to this place before would have caused me to leave. read more

I visited Marvino's for the first time ever this past Thursday night, which also happened to be "steak night". At first I was just going to enjoy the live entertainment and have a drink and an appetizer. However, after watching a steak make its way to another patron, I couldn't resist. I ordered the 16 oz. ribeye (knowing it would be enough for at least another meal or so) and had an El Jimador frozen margarita while I waited. The margarita was perfect, and both JT and Kobie at the bar were attentive and helpful. I was offered bread right away (love their seasoned butter!) and my salad came out after only a few minutes. It was a large house salad (ceasar was an alternate choice) served on a full size dinner plate. It was well plated and was very good. My steak and baked potato came out soon after, and I have to say that it was one of the best steaks I have ever had! It was cooked perfectly as requested (medium) and very juicy and flavorful. I obviously couldn't finish the meal, and it was nicely packaged by the bartender for me to take with me. Although it was a bit more expensive than what I typically spend if I go out to eat alone, it was a great evening and well worth it. The ambience and service at Marvino's were all that I would want/expect, and it was topped off with entertainment by one of Houston's VERY best local artists, Duane Vincent! I would definitely recommend this restaurant and, in fact, have already done so to several friends and family members. If you decide to check them out, try to make it on a night when Duane is there! We visited Marvino's for dinner today and were looking forward to a new eatery in Cypress. The fettuccine Alfredo with chicken was not very good. The sauce was bland and the grilled chicken did not have good flavor either. As an appetizer we ordered Italian meatballs in marinara sauce and again neither was good. A bit disappointed because we don't have Italian restaurants in this area. The restaurant inside was very nice, the waitress was very nice as well, but I don't think we will be returning anytime soon. read more

A little disappointed after our first meal at Marvino's. Lasagna Bolognese was not very good. Sausage and Meatball Linguini was good. Salad was excellent. We sat in a room designed for parties that was cold and very cramped. Our food took long. Waitress apologized and said the kitchen was backed up because they had too many people at the restaurant. I would give it a second try in a few months to see if they make any improvements. The monstrosity on wheels they used to serve desserts has got to go. To be fair, I always give a restaurant two tries before I leave a review. On both occasions, I absolutely loved the food and the service. Everything was very flavorful and portions were great. I have been to Italy a few times and I can say this is the closest I have come in Houston to reasonably priced authentic Italian food. Took the family there about a week ago. Bartender was prompt courteous and very helpful. Wish the wine list was expanded though. Move to the dining area after a short wait. Order some beef tar tar; I give it 7 out of 10. I look forward to trying the tuna tar tar. The mussels where ok but had a very strong spice I couldn't place my tongue on; my wife liked, the rest of us didn't care for it. Again, wish they would expand to a lemon butter white wine "lighter" version instead of the heavy tomato based sauce. The main dishes we had where all great. I order the cannelloni and have to say it was the best I have ever had period!! Stuffed pasta tubes full of cheese, veal and spice. If your not starvin Marvin, get the small portion. Marvin's opened less than a year ago and the food is great. Cypress needed a good italian food place. I've had quite a few of the dishes and all were excellent. Wine selection is killer as well. Can get everything from regular cabs to Caymus 40. Bartenders are all great and very knowledgeable about wine. Waitresses and waiters are all young and clueless as to wine and some of the food. If you are ordering food and no wine, get a table. If you want good wine and are picky, sit at the bar. Most of the wait staff is 20ish and barely knows a chard from a cab. Somewhat annoying when you're trying to have dinner and have to explain how to open a bottle of wine. read more

It was okay. My wife and I are allergic to seafood and mushrooms, so our choices on the menu were slim. My wife had the fettuccine alfredo. It was meh and vastly under-salted. I've been to Marvinos a few times with the family. I recommend the chicken fettuccine alfredo. Delicious with generous portions of chicken breast, I order extra mushrooms & I am one happy camper! Went to Marvinos after church on Sunday. After driving around for awhile and checking out other restaurants in the area, we decided we wanted Italian. The interior of the restaurant is beautiful. We were greeted and seated promptly. Our server, Alex, was outstanding. Very courteous, professional and attentive. We ordered the fried mozzarella appetizer and it was delicious. The house salads that came with our meals were fresh and were just the right size. I ordered the ravioli filled with short rib and cheese and my wife had the seafood tortellini. Kids had the cheese ravioli and cheese pizza. The food was outstanding!! Perfectly portioned and tasted delicious! Finished up by splitting the cannolis... yum!!! We have historically enjoyed this family's restaurants; however, tonight was disgusting as we found three strands of black hair smeared under the pastas and sauce! The server was right there and took it to show the manager. His response? The lasagna has been fine all day. What would you like me to do? Um, did you see the plate? Tried Marvino's again today for lunch with friends. They all love this place. However, I'm still on the fence. The service was very much improved, our server was attentive without rushing us. Noisy and Average Went here for the first time for a friends birthday on a Thursday and was not impressed. We were seated quickly in a nice booth but the place was very noisy so it was hard to talk. Our waiter got to us quickly but we needed a minute to review the wine list. When he came back we ordered a bottle of Valpolicella, a glass of white wine for one guest and some calamari to start. Shortly thereafter the white wine came as did the calamari, which was quite nice, but no red wine. Then our waiter returned to take our order which we were ready to place but he noted that he had forgotten our wine so left without taking our order. Shortly thereafter he returned to tell us that they didn't have any more Valpolicella, so we ordered a bottle of Chianti. He then wanted to run to get us a plate to show us what the special was that evening which none of us were interested in, and finally got our order in. The Cesar salads were OK. I had the Penne Pesto Pasta. Some day I will find a place that can make a real Pesto sauce but it isn't here. The Pesto was a cream version with almost no garlic so very bland. My wife had the chicken picatta which was average. The birthday boy had veal picatta that was overcooked with inedible vegetables and his wife had the short rib ravioli that she said was fine. After dinner we split some nice deserts, a tuxedo cake and creme brulee and I asked for a expresso but the machine wasn't working. An Italian restaurant with no Valpolicella and a non-working expresso machine. Seemed to take forever to finally get the check. It may have been that our waiter was spread too thin that evening as the bus staff and serving waiters seemed good and attentive but our main waiter was running around like a chicken with his head cut off. read more

Food was very good!! My husband ordered the four cheese ravioli and a wedding soup with it... The soup was sour but he got a lentil soup instead and it was pretty good. The cheese ravioli was really good as well. I ordered the chicken parm with penne a la vodka instead of the spaghetti with marinara... it was sooo good!!! The service wasn't bad... out sever seemed to be kind of busy but still managed to be courteous and his assistant was able back him up and refill drinks. Pizza was good and ok for the price but almost everything else is ridiculously overpriced for the quality and quantity served. I was also annoyed that they only gave us two small baskets of bread for a party on ten. We had to ask for more bread over and over again and they were so slow to bring it each time. Parking is an experience but all the good places out here have that problem. The first time I went I got the chicken Marvino's and it was perfect! Grilled chicken with green beans and shallots and potatoes oh boy was I in heaven. Second time we got cheese sticks which where massive but had just enough crisp for the amount of cheese and I also ordered the lobster ravioli served with some kind of wine sauce which I loved I do wish the third time I went that my order was the same as the second time. I wasn't as impressed on my third visit. I felt like it wasn't what I remembered but still good enough to get me to come back for more. The fourth time I went I was probably my last. The hostess and waiters are great but the food has changed since day one. They give you oil and bread but no Parmesan!!! You have to ask for it instead of it being at the table and its grated and i just was all the cheese and i don't want to be judged for it! Lol I ordered the chicken Marvino and honestly.. it tasted like it had been sitting in water then heated up again. Hubby got the pizza and wasn't impressed either. We left full but disappointed. Ordered takeout from here last night and I do not recommend it. The kids ravioli was $6 and consisted of 6 ravioli with a tiny splash of marinara. My son would not eat it. I ordered the chicken Marvino's and it was okay. Looked nothing like the picture. I had a few bites and then had a piece of shrimp that literally tasted like garbage so I spit it out. I couldn't finish it after that. It's now two AM and I'm awake and horribly sick to my stomach. We will be finding another Italian restaurant nearby to stick to. read more

Dined at Marvino's last night with our family of four and was disappointed. Two of us ordered the fillet, one medium and one medium and both were overcooked. We would have told our waiter but he didn't visit our table again until he collected our payment (the water server brought us the check). We were their for our daughter's 18th birthday with 8 of her friends. I went in and personally made the reservations. We get there and they have us a a high top, they moved us to a square and a round, the girls at the square table were not included with the round table. My husband's veal was tough, my chicken piccata was dry, my daughter requested no artichokes and her piccata, she sent it back and they removed them for what they could see and returned it to her, she picked the rest out. A children's fettuccine was given to the girl who ordered the regular and the regular went to the girl who ordered the children's (more wasted food). Then, we had 4 $50 gift cards and 4 $10. Our meal was $198 and tip can't be put on gift cards, the receipt said we still owed $2.98. She did not ring up that $50 and had I not know the value would have lost the $50 all together plus pay the tip extra. I was able to get the $50 gift card back after she dug it out of the trash. I went in today at my husband's urging to let them know how disappointed we were with our experience and he said their was nothing he could do, I should have let him know that evening. I didn't even know about the issues with the meal until we got home. Very disappointing needless to say!! read more

The food is totally amazing! I can't complain about the food at all, you won't be disappointed. I live 3 hours away and always look forward to visiting family so we can eat here! However, the service last night was terrible. Not typical of this restaurant but bad enough to make me feel I had to leave this review. We were seated promptly for a Friday night and was greeted by our waiter soon after being seated. He took our drink order and we had wine within just a few minutes but the water we requested with it didn't come with it. We asked again and asked if we could order an appetizer as he was rushing away. Good thing we asked for it then because he never came back. A different waiter delivered our app which is no big deal that happens no matter where you eat but still no water. After 20 minutes the app was gone- totally delicious by the way but still no waiter and still no water. So we flagged down what we thought was a manager and asked if we could please order and have some water. He took our order and our salads came out shortly after by yet another person and again no water. We enjoyed the salads and our food wasn't to far behind only to be delivered by yet another person. At this point we've seen our waiter many times serving the table next to us and behind us never stopping by our table and never asking is we need something even after trying to flag him down. For dinner I had the cheese ravioli with vodka sauce- so delicious! And my mom and sister had fettuccine with shrimp and grilled chicken respectively. We all loved the food- it's always so good here. So once they gave us our food the guy we thought was a manager came by to see how everything was and yet again we asked for water... this time he actually went and got it. We enjoyed the atmosphere and each others company and the wine all the while our waiter never stopping by our table until we were half way done with our meal and he suddenly appears. We thought he had passed us off since we had 4 other people wait on us. He somehow remembered what wine my mom was drinking and asked her if she wanted another glass. He can remember that but not water or much less to wait on us prior to that?? So the end of the meal has come and of course he asked us if we wanted dessert. We decline and ask for the check. So now we're wondering if we leave a tip, who exactly are we tipping?? Did he come back at the time he knew the check would be coming so he could get the tip?? I'm extremely disappointed in this waiter and quite frankly at the management for not assuring that all the tables are attended in an appropriate manner. Though the food is amazing, I'll be waiting to go back. It won't be anytime soon. There are tons of other places that will get my money first. Sorry Marvino's. read more
