Today, this was literally a lifesaver. This was the only restaurant with coffee for miles open after the hurricane. Oh my goodness y'all - not only is this place a mile from my home, but also SUCH a guilty pleasure! Their donuts are nothing super fancy, but consistently scrumptious! Let's just say...some mornings I wake up craving their donuts, and I have to treat myself! Their prices are very reasonable which is another plus! My only gripe is the fact that they close at noon (understandable because they open at the crack of dawn!) and their coffee is mehhhh (sorry not a fan of the dirty tasting community coffee). As I have said in previous reviews about donut places, these are absolutely necessary in every neighborhood. I am bummed that it has taken me this long to visit this location (Perkins close to College). I walked in and was warmly welcomed by a family that runs this location. They were so nice that I wanted to stay all morning and chat with them (while eating donuts of course). Sadly, donut shop visits must end, but I walked out the door with an Oreo cookie donut and 1/2 dozen of choco-holes (chocolate donut holes). Yes, I almost ate 'em all. They open early and close early, so get your donuts, while they are up and runnin'. Feel kickin' it up with some coffee? They have that freshly brewed, too and you'll be on your way. Donuts and coffee: a delectable pair that are just always to good to pass up. Heading to work or a meeting? Brighten it up with a box (or two) of donuts for the group. Greasy tasteless cake donuts along with the TOUGHEST and CHEWIEST apple fritter I have ever had in my life. Rock hard in spots and chewy as leather in the rest of the product. No apple either. It was like it had been microwaved repeatedly before they sold it. Never have I had a worse fritter. Hub's chocolate yeast bow tie was properly done but didn't have a lot of chocolate flavor in the icing. The LSU donut was cute and acceptably done but all in all these were not good products. First the Donuts are Really good but I'm rating it 3 stars cause there's no sign limiting the amount of people inside during covid and the employees did not say anything when 4 other people came in a bit after I was in there trying to order. If you want a hot fresh melt in your mouth doughnut this is the place for you. Once you walk in you are instantly hit with a smell of fresh baked doughnuts and a very nice family asking for your order. I always get two glazed doughnuts because I know one will not be enough. These doughnuts are big and fluffy and the icing/glaze has just the right amount of crunch. They have a good amount of other flavors and special doughnuts like twists and fritters which are also delicious. One of the things that I love about Mary Lee is that they also are very affordable so you can pick up a dozen to bring to a group/ meeting without hurting your wallet. Now I have written reviews of donut shops before. I love them all, and donuts love me, unfortunately I have to go on a diet every few months to undo the mass indulgences I have consumed here and elsewhere. I am a foodie, and now that we have a son who is old enough to know between right and wrong we can teach him the differences between the different foods we eat and try. I like introducing him to new things and go back to enjoy the things we and he likes the most. No better taste test than donuts, right? The hard part is convincing him to try new donuts, but now he likes seeking out new ones and we always compare it to the donuts made here. There are a bunch of this locally owned and operated donut shop in and around Baton Rouge, and after having been to several of the others (Florida, O'neal, etc) I think this is the best one. My son and I go here almost every weekend (Sat and Sun). The two ladies who work the counter here know us as they do dozens (if not hundreds) of other faces that come through their door. It was one them whose father trained all the others how to make the Mary Lee Donuts. That said, I would consider this the OG of Mary Lee's of all of them. if you gotta have it, I mean a darn good original Mary Lee recipe donut, go to the ones that trained the rest. The donuts here are amazing and they know exactly which donuts to make for which type of crowd comes in at different times of the week. For the little ones the chocolate sprinkle doughnut is the go to for anyone under 12, they have as many or more of these than the glazed donuts ready to go, they even have doughnut hole versions with sprinkles, that's so awesome. On the weekends they have an extra supply of these as thwy know what their audience wants. The Apple Fritter is HUGE! I highly recommend it, it's worth running around the block dueing the week a few times to make up for it. They also have a king cake donut, pigs in blankets and the standard offering of Community Coffee, milk, oj and soda. It's the service and smile I go in for. Even when a national chain reappeared in BR after a long hiatus opened up down the road, we ditched them and came back for the quality of the donut, and the people are so nice. read more

I like their donuts, I hate going in here. Being from the home of Dunkin Donuts I am quite particular about my donuts on the occasion that I decide to have one or a dozen. Mary Lee is comparable to a Tim Horton's or a Dunks in terms of the quality of their donuts, both places are of course not available in the south, so Mary Lee makes a more than acceptable substitution. The way this place falls flat in their coffee selection, they basically have one type of coffee and sell it in 12oz cups, that's it hopefully you don't like to drink huge cups of coffee like I do. This place could be making so much more money serving different sizes and varieties coffee and other coffee drinks, but seems to exclusively focus on donuts. Every time I want donuts I debate going into Mary Lee because it is either overly crowded with a huge slow moving line or completely empty and sold out of every type of donut except glazed. If you decide to go Saturday morning, it will take forever to get donuts. If you decide to go early in the afternoon after nursing a hangover you better like glazed donuts as this is usually all they have left. All in all this place is great for your donut fix, but I don't go here as often as I would if they had better coffee. Great neighborhood donut store! The donuts are sooooo good. I used to be a hot now Krispy Kreme lover. But, the cinnamon rolls and apple fritters are to die for. I love it when I catch them right when they are pulling them out of the fryer (or however they cook donuts). They also have pig in a blankets. This place was about average for me. Nothing really set it apart from any other donut place I have ever been too. Donuts are kind of hard to screw-up. It is a little awkward and cramped in there, however I found the service to be excellent and quick even in the wee-hours of the morning. I don't really see how anyone would prefer dining in (rather than to-go) at Mary Lee's. Definitely not a place to go for the atmosphere. First off, my family and I got food poisoning from their pigs in blankets. For the donuts, the selection was disappointing to say the least & they were dry, tasteless & gross. The woman at the counter kept trying to make us take the leftovers that no one else wanted & she was really pushy about it. She was sooooo obnoxious & it was extremely annoying to have to keep saying "no I don't want those kind".
