I want to preface this review by stating that I don't understand why this place doesn't have a higher rating. I attended a Woofstock event at the Cumming city center this weekend and stumbled upon this charming bakery, cafe, and tea room. After ordering some freshly baked pastries from the bakery side we decided to have lunch. My sister ordered the chicken and waffles and loved the kick of the hot honey sauce. The chicken was well cooked breast meat and had a delicious crispy coating. The peach iced tea was light and refreshing, but not syrupy or cloyingly sweet. My egg salad sandwich was flavorful and the bread was fresh. My side salad was also really good and not just some iceberg lettuce and a mealy tomato. I swapped out the standard dressing for a little bleu cheese and it was worth the extra calories. I recommend this place if you are in the area. read more

This place has so much potential. The branding and decor are very lovely. The menu is developed nicely, nothing that's different but a lot of Southern staples that fits it's location. Redevelopment is necessary on the customer service end. It's a bit chaotic and if the restaurant wasn't fully up and running I'd be more forgiving. However, it's over a month since opening and they're no longer in the soft opening stage so the constant changes are a bit exhausting. They've changed everything from the checkout process, bakery basket (it was complimentary), and hours of operation. My last visit was quite pleasant. I enjoyed my brunch, and everyone seemed to receive the food well. Plus, my server was very welcoming and present. However, my visit today was the opposite experience. The server arrived 15 minutes after I was seated, it took another 15 minutes for my order to be placed, and roughly 20-25 minutes before my food arrived and it was bussed by multiple staff members. They were short staffed but considering the restaurant wasn't extremely busy it was a bit annoying to wait so long. Also, everything was out of stock... the grenadine syrup for the Shirley Temples and cocktails, the hot honey for the chicken... my OJ even came out late because they were waiting for more clean glasses out of the dishwasher. A new brunch spot that opened at the Cumming City Center. FYI: they actually open at 9 (not 7) for brunch. We got here around 8:40 and there was already a line forming. Mainly because most of us thought it would be opened already. They have a 2 page brunch menu with plenty of different option for everyone. Ambiance is casual and it's pretty noisy. Which didn't bother us because we came with kids. Food: You get complimentary mini muffins and cinnamon rolls. Which were pretty good. We think the blueberry muffin could use less blueberries. Breakfast platter 10/10. Those were some of the best grits ever. Wife got the chicken & waffles and says it's not something she would order again. But she is willing to come back and try something different. The waffle was rather "sad" looking and flat. And didn't represent a Belgium waffle as advertised. The chicken was pretty dry. read more

I was wanting so badly for this place to succeed because the first time that we came here the food was great even though the service was very bad. I tried here second time. Everything was bad. Just read the other reviews. I even gave them a third chance, even worse than the second. I tried to buy a bottle of hot sauce in their bakery store could not sell it to me because there's no price tags they had no idea what was going on. Everybody seems clueless including the cooks. I wanted to like this place, and I've been four times. This had "Grandma's Kitchen" written all over it. It started out that way with the roast turkey and sage stuffing, meatloaf, pot roast, etc. Then, they changed the menu, and again, and again, and again. So many times that the menu's are paper because they're experimenting so rapidly. It's like a test kitchen at this point. The staff is disorganized and inexperienced. I actually feel bad for them as they are clearly getting zero training or guidance. The constant menu changes are not only annoying as a patron, but it has effect on the waitstaff and the kitchen, creating often unavailable menu items and long wait times for food. Recently they announced that they are changing their hours (again) to 9-3 because they are becoming known as "the brunch place". That's because no one has two hours for lunch and no one with a family can entertain their kids that long during dinner. Sad, because honestly their dinner menu was better and if I'm having breakfast I'd rather just go somewhere else. I hope they figure it out. I really do. Get back to the original vision and concept. Be Grandma's Kitchen. Simple, hearty, wholesome spot for some Baby Boomer style recipes, because there is nothing like that in the county. Stop trying to conform to every other cookie cutter brunch spot that we could take or leave... because honestly you fall short in terms of food, service and time. Get back to the original vision. Hire better staff and someone that can train them. Define a menu that, aside from specials, won't change for at least 12 months and stick to it. Two stars because the food, when it's not sitting in the window for 30 minutes can be AMAZING. Gasthaus found their niche and are 4.6 stars. It's not for everyone but people that like it LOVE it. There are zero excuses for this to not do the same but some serious reflection needs to take place quickly or I'm afraid it will end up being an amazingly promising failed concept. read more

I really try to find the positive in every situation, but this place made it super hard I wanted to give it 2 stars, but after our server had to come back to our table 5 different times to inform us they were out of the menu item(s) we ordered, finally to receive the less than mediocre it was hard.to give.them 1 star. Asparagus looked 5 days old - dried out, stringy, and gross. I wish I had taken a picture because it seriously was the most pitiful asparagus I have ever seen. The presentation of the salmon was not much better and no flavor. The mashed potatoes were soupy but with extremely large chunks of potato. For a minute, I thought I had ordered baked potato soup. Maybe that's what happened to the baked potatoes they were out of. Others in our party ordered the filet - small, overcooked, and not very flavorful. For the prices, we seriously couldn't believe the quality of food received. Apparently, the kitchen staff wasn't embarrassed or concerned. They were high fiving, laughing dancing, and carrying on back in their open kitchen for patrons to watch. Cumming has a long way to go to be able to compare to restaurant options in Roswell, Alpharetta, and even Gainesville. Come on, we should be able to do better Cumming! read more

We had an excellent dinner tonight. The atmosphere was beautiful. The service was friendly, helpful, and professional. The food was fantastic. They were extremely knowledgeable about gluten allergies. They have a dedicated fryer and GF breading for several of their items: they specifically mentioned fried green tomatoes and fried mushrooms, and it sounds like there are even more options than that. It sounds like they're going to offer more GF items soon, including baked goods. And I absolutely cannot wait for them to begin afternoon tea. We can't wait to return again soon. read more

I was ecstatic to see this place finally open! All the things they were posting looked amazing! We came here for lunch and there was a 45 minute wait. Which was fine! Happy to see them busy. We strolled through the city center and we received a call when our table was ready. When we got there, we had to wait a little longer for them to get our table ready. We were thinking the fried green tomatoes appetizer was a bit pricey for 15 bucks. We assumed they would be a good size portion. Nope, 3 tiny and I mean tiny fried green tomatoes with melted pimento cheese and bacon on top. Maybe for 8 bucks and that would still make me want a good size portion. The French onion soup was very sweet. I don't think I've ever had one that sweet. I do prefer savory. The onion rings were way over done. After we left, we learned that they had a turkey sandwich special that we never knew about. The service was fine and atmosphere was nice. Manager kept coming over to check on us. I did give 3 stars because I'm hoping they are still sorting out the kinks. I do want to see them succeed!! read more

I was in there a few days ago and I feel I need to make people aware of what I overheard. Someone who seemed managerial was having a disagreement with an employee about refusing to pay them for their full hours worked, somewhere around twenty or fifteen over forty that went entirely unpaid. This went back and forth for a bit and the employee was let go on the spot--still unpaid. Now the food is okay, albeit a little pricey for what it really is, and the atmosphere is quaint, but I can't bring myself to patron a business with practices like these and I certainly wouldn't recommend anyone else spend their money here either. read more

I invited my mother and brother to join me for brunch, and was so excited because it's cute and homey-looking with a good view of the street for people watching. We ordered the bakery sample basket and fried green tomatoes. The bakery items were tiny samples and all were dry and cold. The three fried green tomatoes were each about 2.5" in diameter, very thin and over-fried. The iced peach tea was too sweet and so bitter that we had to return it. Our waitress was very young and obviously untrained. Surely menu items that aren't up to scruff are discarded and better items offered, or at least I hope so. Service was excellent- I actually felt bad for her because the issues were not her fault, she was just the bearer of bad news. They need to work on ordering their supplies- how do you run out of common menu items again and again? Surely you can see how often chorizo gets ordered and then adjust how much you order based on that? Why can't you freeze it in case you don't use it and then need it later? Went in today and learned they were out of chorizo after our party was seated and perused the menu and then was asked what we would like, only then to be informed they didn't have it. I ordered the brisket sandwich and then 10 minutes later our poor server had to come and tell us they were out of that too. The "toast" served with the omelettes wasn't toasted at all and was like unsweetened pound cake. You needed to take a swig of water to even get it off the roof of your mouth. Probably should have known it was going to be an experience when we walked in... 1. Walked in and stood there waiting to even look at a menu... after about two/three minutes I grabbed 4 pages of paper to look at and we decided to try. 2. My party of two and there was no one else there except a party of two at the bar eating and a party of four that had already eaten. 3. We finally were seated and our waitress came over for drinks (Coke Zero and water)... she was nice but can tell no serving experience. Took our order and didn't know if my sandwich came with a side. The boyfriend ordered a burger and fries.... She came back to get the cheese choice. And we wait.... 4. 45 minutes later and after the waitress came back over to see if we had eaten (no plates or silverware that was unrolled).... Oh no. She then comes back to tell us the computer was like 5 minutes off from sending orders. 5. Now the manager comes over to tell me they don't have the side I had asked for... my pork sandwich is sitting in the window getting cold. And letting us know that the order will be out in about 3 minutes. Orders comes with a cold pork sandwich, flavorless Mac and cheese, a burger that was like a hockey puck (and a $2 charge for 3 blue cheese crumbles)... fries were hot though... smh. We eventually get the bill after an hour and 10 minutes.... We watched everyone leave and one party come in and eat and leave before us. It was like everyone was in slow motion. Unfortunately, we won't be back. I would suggest making sure you have two hours in your day to spend here for a cold and costly meal. read more

This is a charming place; however, the food was not good. My chicken salad sandwich had a dollop of chicken salad and the bread was burned. The fruit salad tasted like chemicals. Our server was delightful, though. There is a serious problem there with reverse racism. A female server was approached by a male worker in the kitchen. my daughter gifted my mom and I as well as her daughter to High Tea. what a delight. we had the entire tea room to ourselves. Once shown the room we each ordered individual pots of tea which were served to us. we had wonderful salads and quiche which were followed by two triple tiers of sandwiches scones and an incredible array of deserts. the service was warm and inviting and the food was absolutely delicious. I make scones personally for fun and was really happy with theirs. the texture and flavor were well done. I will go back and try the restaurant next time and look forward to it. so happy to have this local as a place for an experience. we were four generations and the tea was a rare ladies out time. read more

I had a Jill's chicken sandwich. I didn't know a chicken sandwich could be so good! Everything we ordered was delicious. The staff was delightful, welcoming and cheerful. There's also a bakery, which has so many mouth watering desserts. We bought a carrot cake to bring home and it was one of the best I've had. I highly recommend this place! I was then extremely impressed with one of the hosts I think it's jada is her name she is absolutely excellent! I came into the bakery because she moved there but since she longer works there I am hesitant to go back due to the simple fact I feel no one can provide the same service and experience she provided. Won't ever come back here again. We walked in, approached hostess and told her we were 5. She then walks away from us and grabs menus so we assumed follow her. Logical assumption yea? Guess not because she turns around and tells me senior mom "this isn't for you" so oh ok I guess we'll wait, so we sat down on the bench. About 25 min go by and we're watching people waiting for checks, we're seeing uncleared tables. Clearly unstaffed. Hostess starts to clear a table and spills what looked like chocolate sauce all over a chair. She wiped it with dry napkins and never spray cleaned it. After already waiting 25 minutes when there are plenty of empty tables! I say we can just combine two. We're 5 not 50! She say sorry no that would block an isle. Omg where do they find these people?!
