I was scheduled to have a LASIK procedure, after an appointment a month prior where the doctor stated my eyes were healthy and ready for the surgery. The day of the surgery, he checked my eyes one more time to see if the prescription was correct. He then proceeded to tell me that my eyes were so aggressively destroyed due to rosacea in my eye. He did not explain what specifically that meant for me, cancelled my surgery and sent me out to get my refund. He then explained to my mom and I that he would not ever touch my eyes and had nothing to do for me. He then said that no eye doctor would ever treat me. It was hard for me to understand why a month ago, my eyes were perfectly healthy to now not even being good enough to fix and treat. I left and had to get an emergency appointment somewhere else, because i was made to believe by this place that my eyes were in a state of emergency to the point where I thought I would lose my vision. After my emergency appointment at a doctor's office out of state, my diagnosis was not anything like the one at Maryland Vision and I am no where near as bad off as Maryland Vision made it seem. At Maryland Vision, I was given no plan and no comfort to what I was experiencing. I was left wondering what in the world to do for my health. It was handled very poorly. I worked with them for 2 years to make my eyes healthy, spending a lot of money on treatments, to only be met with that there was nothing anyone would ever do for me for my eye health. The positive- the staff is very friendly. The negative- Everything else. We had 2 appointments for my son to get contacts. The first appointment, they were at least kind enough to call me the morning of to say there wasn't any point in coming in because contacts were never ordered. The second appointment, they left us waiting for over 40 minutes PAST our appointment time to tell me they didn't order his contacts. Oh- but they could give us a lesser prescription if we wanted but his vision would be blurry, WHAT??? No thank you. Add to all this, that this whole ordeal has been going on for 12 weeks with at least a dozen of my voicemails never being returned. read more

Fuck. This. Place. I've been going here for years due to a serious eye condition that resulted from a botched LASIK procedure. Dr. August Stern came highly recommended -- and he probably deserves it. But beyond that, fuck this place. Today I called -- for the third time -- to have my medical records transferred. TL;DR I was told it'll take 7-10 days for them to fax the records. Shocked, I replied "Oh, I guess I'll have to cancel my appointment then. When can I expect them?" and the lady, very angrily, replied "I'll do it by the end of today." Physician did not provide his assessment or diagnosis nor were treatment options discussed. Another individual was brought into the room but never introduced. A prescription medication was ordered and sold at the clinic but no information regarding refills. Another prescription was sent to the pharmacy but it was not filled due to the fact that it was not covered by insurance. Physician did not discuss how the prescribed medication would address the problem and possible next steps. No visit summary was provided at the conclusion of the visit. I have gone here for the past 3 years, but have been cancelled TWICE already by the doctor that my daughter and I had appointments with. The person who called me to cancel offered no alternative or compassion regarding my extreme dismay at having had our appointments cancelled for a second time. I left a message for the office manager to call me back and have not heard back. They just lost 2 patients, and they don't seem to care. read more

Back in early September, my husband got cataract surgery in both eyes, one eye one week, the other eye 2 weeks later. First of all, it was almost impossible to get the cataract verification cards required by Medicare -- took about 6 weeks and a LOT of begging. If that wasn't bad enough, there's also a document Medicare requires the doctor to sign before a patient can obtain their first pair of glasses post surgery. WE'RE STILL WAITING for that document. It seems if all the expensive appointments are out of the way and already paid for, they lose "sight" of you (no pun intended). All of a sudden, you fall off the map and you no longer matter. You can call and call and call and get absolutely NOWHERE. I really question if any of the staff know what they're doing because I've spoken to a number of them, all to no avail. None of them seem to know what to do or what I'm even talking about, even though... I've personally seen the document. It exists!!! The doctor just doesn't want to take 10 seconds out of his busy day to sign it. If we EVER get hold of this document, all future appointments will be immediately canceled, as my husband has been without glasses for almost 2 months now. This is unacceptable!!!! THEY CLEARLY DO NOT CARE!!!!! Also, this is a state-of-the-art office (i.e., very classy, very expensive, very well appointed) yet they can't get their phone system fixed and they can't adequately train their people??? This whole thing is pitiful. Actually, pathetic is more like it. All in all, this is a VERY poorly run, disorganized office. They need to step up their game! They even have their own eyeglass sales department, where you can buy glasses right there on the premises, but there's rarely anyone there to help you. Dr. Huzella was very informative regarding her findings, and she answered all of my questions completely. I had a lovely experience with Dr Huzella, she took the time to answer questions and put my son and I both at ease. So confident, I am going scheduling an appointment for myself. I am giving them 4 stars because I was looking for a full service practice. I want to be able to get my exam and glasses at the same location. Their optical department has very limited hours - it closes at 4:30, that is crazy! I suggest it least one night a week till 6pm. read more

I have been extremely farsighted with significant astigmatism from birth. The poor eyesight has been a great source of inconvenience to me in my life. I am so impressed with the staff at MD Vision. I was gradually losing my vision due to cataracts. Dr. Stern replaced my deteriorating lenses with prescription ACRYSof IQ Toric lenses. In this process, he was able to remove my lifelong astigmatism. I rarely use any corrective lenses since this surgery. I have dry eye from earlier laser surgeries. Dr. Huezella has picked up and worked with me on that issue providing me with the best service and advice available. She has proven her proficiency with the laser in removing calcification from the toric lens. My vision is now about 20-25 without glasses and I have an unrestricted MD driver's license. Needless to say I am very pleased. read more

I understand everyone wants to get out of work on time. I did not choose to schedule a 3:30pm appointment which has the chance of running late. But don't treat me like I'm stupid or unobservant. I had an appointment today, 7/29/15. I arrived early, brought all my paperwork filled out, and did all the "good new Patient" things I've learned over the years. However, I ended waiting about a half hour before being brought back to the testing area. (4pm) After the prelim test was finished, I was left in a hallway for 10 to 20 mins. (4:45-5:00) I didn't get to see the actual opthalmologist until 5:30 or so. The second sentence out of his month was "when you come back next week." I am a very busy person and could not understand what impact a week would be on my test results. This is when the doctor started to placate me by telling me my vision is okay. (It isn't...which is why I came to the Eye Doctor!) Then, noticing I wasn't a push over, he starts telling me what's wrong. I kept asking why we couldn't do things, right now, where we were both present, and he wriggled out of it. Needless, I quit them Maryland Vision Institute. I will likely go back to the ophthalmologist's office at Johns Hopkins (there's also a satellite in Olney). This place was a giant waste of time. read more

I put off having an eye lift for a few years. When I finally decided to get a consultation I was so fortunate to get an appointment with Dr Huzella. She was so up beat and positive, she put me at ease right away. When I went for my procedure the staff was wonderful. Especially the anesthesiologist. Dr. Huzella had told me everything to expect and it was exactly as she said. If you are considering this be prepared to give your eye lift time to heal properly. Take some time off work if you can. Rest and relax the first few days. Once the bruising goes away you'll start to notice so much improvement. I was extremely pleased with my results and so happy I chose to have this done. read more

The contacts prescription I was given was for a very expensive brand of contacts and the Dr. was unwilling to change it without another office visit. It is very unethical to push a specific product on a client without any chance to review different options. Kickbacks perhaps? read more

I went there under the assumption I was to see an ophthalmologist. She was not there so I saw an optomotrist. My RX for my glasses did not change that much so I did not see the need for new glasses. Later on I decided to get new glasses. I called and left a message numerous times and asked for a copy of my RX. I emailed also. After months of frustration, the optomotrist finally responded with an apology for the delay. What I received was an email with a letterhead and no RX attached. I wrote again and did not receive a response. I subsequently gave up. Customer service is lacking. Will not go there again. read more

I thought Dr. Huezella was awesome. Very informative-very efficient, very compassionate. Best experience I have had in a very long time.

I am not writing about the performance of the doctors although I'm not a fan on one who thinks he is gracing you with his presence, other than that, the place is fine. I'm writing about their website which encourages you to have a login, password, etc. which I did. I have sent two messages, one on 9/12/2016 and 9/15/2016 asking for a copy of my invoice. Went there for a problem in Sep 2016 and by Mar was no better after they kept trying to convince me I had dry eyes when I do not. Finally went to another ophthalmologist and within 2 weeks, my eyes were finally back to normal and I was back wearing contacts again. read more

I came in for an eye exam two days ago at 8:30am. Before i got there, no one informed me that they'd have to dilate my eyes. They proceeded to do the process (without letting me know what was going on!) Without knowing what was going on, i couldn't tell them if i was allergic to anything. That being said- while the drops were going into my eye, i was done. After, while we were doing the eye exams, i couldn't see the charts. i informed the doctor and he checked my eyes. he then told me that i had had an allergic reaction to the drops. we finished the process and sent me on my way (without asking if i felt safe enough to drive or if i had a safe way home!). i walked outside, couldn't see a thing, walked back in and told the receptionist. she gave me the "paper glasses" and again, didn't check to see if i was okay or not. Thankfully, i did make it home okay. i called the next day to tell a manager or someone and while i was calmly explaining what happened, i received nothing but a very RUDE "Well, did you make it home okay?" Nothing but an attitude the entire phone call. I definitely will NOT be going back to this place. read more

I had an appointment at MVI on the 28th of December. The staff and doctors were all very courteous, even with me being a bit on the annoyed side at filling out the paperwork. I honestly did not expect for them to be able to assist me, but that they would be able to correct my husband's vision, so I felt that the paperwork was a waste of time for me. The receptionists were all very nice. Everyone that came in to the room introduced themselves and they explained what they were going to do before they did it. I am scheduled to have Lasik performed on one of my eyes at the end of January, as that is the only bad one, so I will try to remember to come back and update this afterwards, but I did not experience any of the issues addressed in any of the other reviews on this site for MVI. The Ophthalmologist that I saw was very direct and honest. They told my husband that his eyes were not bad enough to be a good candidate for lasik surgery. read more

I should have known better than to go to any doctor with institute in the title. Worst experience I've ever had and I've been wearing glasses since 6. WARNING!!! Don't go there unless you would like to spend more. I went there with a $10 copay but when I left the facility they told me I had to pay $160. I asked them for what...no explanation, so they gave me an itemized list and one of the charges was for $300 for them to take an eye lash out of my eye. As for service, I had to say the service was horrible. Lady at the counter at check out gave me an attitude when I asked questions. I will never return to this place again and hope you would be careful if you do use them. read more

In all of my 67 years , I have never seen such a terrible doctor as Dr. Stern. I was absolutely appalled at his brusque demeanor. He was immature and insensitive. I brought up my eye health concerns and he laughed at me and mocked me. He didn't seem to have any answers for me. I was stunned !! I will never go back there again !! read more

I am a Veteran who received my cataract surgery under the First Choice Program for veterans. Basically VA pays for the surgery. This is May 4th 2018. My left eye was my first surgery 7 months ago. It did not go well, Dr, Chang had to go back twice to remove cataract pieces he left behind. He then did the right eye with very little problem. He sent me home at the end of three months with eye drops to use everyday for dry eye with a follow up appointment 4 months later, May 7th, 2018. Three days before the appointment I get a phone call telling me the First Choice Program time period for which Dr,. Chang had to complete my surgery had expired and that I would have to pay for the last appointment. He knew when the expiration date was and should have requested an extension, but did not. I have been told to go back to the VA Eye Doctor who put me in the Fist Choice Program and have him finish the job. The best appointment I could get is June 21, 2018. So I have to put up with all this discomfort for another month and hope that the VA Eye doctor can finish the job. The organization is: Maryland Vision Institute of Maryland in Hagerstown, MD. I can not recommend Dr. Chang due to the fact that he left the job undone for some one else to finish. I would rate this service as two stars. read more

I wouldn't recommend this practice for eye care. I had Lasik two years ago and my vision is worse than it was before surgery. The evening following surgery, the pain was excruciating. The next morning everything was blurry. Apparently, I had a wrinkle in the flap of one of my eyes. I went in and Dr. Stern smoothed the wrinkle and placed a contact in that eye, that was to come out the next day. However, the next day was Saturday so he said just leave it until Monday. When I went in Monday, Dr. Chang couldn't get the contact out right away. He had to keep picking at it and finally use an instrument to remove the contact. For a year, they kept telling me my vision could still improve. It never did. As I stated, it's worse than it was before surgery. Sadly, I spent $4000 to ruin my sight. I can't read well, the sun and headlights are too bright when driving. I always tell people that if they ever see me out and I don't wave or acknowledge them to not take it personally. I just can't see that far. Please do your research and decide if this is right for you. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone. I did express to Dr. Stern that I was sorry I'd had it done and he simply stared at me with no response. Then told me to come back in three months and charged me an additional $125 for the visit. I'm very disappointed and disheartened by the whole experience. read more
