We grabbed Mary's BBQ for a large family dinner. We ordered 2 family meals that should feed 4 and had a ton of leftovers after feeding a group of 7 adults and 2 kids. The food was good. I'm not normally a big BBQ fan so I was grateful that they served the sauce on the side. The chicken and beef were both good and the garlic bread was plentiful. I wasn't really enamored by any of the side dishes. The macaroni salad was very dry and the potato salad had olives in it and wasn't very flavorful. The cole slaw was probably the best of the 3 sides. The price was fair - I think it was less than $100 for everyone's food and several meals of leftovers. I might return for one of their sandwiches but would not be clamoring to try any of the sides again. 2.5 stars. read more

You have to give Marys credit for trying to produce good bbq, BUT, When you believe your getting Texas bbq and they serve try-tip instead of brisket there is something basically wrong. The trip-tip was cut into very little pieces then delivered in a cup that was 1/2 filled with gravy that had very little flavor. bbq it was not! The wife and I also had pork ribs and here at least they were very good, a little dry but flavorful with a nice smoked flavor. The baked beans could have used a dollop of mustard to make them taste better and I would give them a grade of average. The potato salad wasn't bad. The bbq sauces they offered were not tasty just run of the mill sauces out of a jar and not anything to write about. It is not texas bbq. NO Brisket and NO Beef ribs. I moved here from Texas and it would not sell down there. The service was nice and friendly. Quick also but that shows the problem, everything was cut and made up hours before so hardly any flavor was left in the try-tip. Never have I had Tri-tip and had it called it bbq. Ordered a small side of chicken and a side salad w/ a small drink and my total was $9.50. Chicken was dry and stringy - salad was extremely small and just lettuce, didn't even fill up the dressing cup. I'm sure the chicken would be fine with a big roll and doused with sauce, but on its own the meat wasn't all that good - I believe that the meat should be able to stand on its own without being covered up. Went there yesterday for the first time. I got the smoker lunch plate special and it's a great value because you get a drink and a side with it for $10. I had the tri-tip sandwich and the meat was super tender and had a great smoked flavor. I tried both there BBQ sauces and really enjoyed the jalapeno version because it had the best flavor and not a lot of heat but a good amount. My lunch was saucey, messy and delicious just like good barbecue should be . Next time I think I want to try the ribs because someone else was getting them when I was there and they looked wonderful. read more

The tri tip is excellent, juicy and cut correctly. I have had it in the sandwich and just by itself. Delicious. The chicken is also very tasty. It has a smokey flavor. They always offer either original or jalapeno BBQ sauce but truth of the matter is the meat is so tasty all by itself that I usually decline any sauce. The prices are very reasonable. I love BBQ and had waited quite a long time to get to Mary's as i had heard good things about it. All I can say is it was nothing to write home about. Mary works hard but I'm sorry to say, the ribs were tough and even the regular sauce too spicy. Not impressed with either the beans or the potato salad. That will be my last time there. read more

Mary's catered a company this weekend and don't think I have had worse food then this. For a BBQ place the meat had no smoke flavors or no rub at all and the beans tasted weird not sure what the flavor was. I've been trying to visit this place for awhile, but seemed to only find myself in town on the day it is closed (Monday) usually. Today the planets aligned and I was there for lunch. Now, when I go for BBQ, I usually just order MEAT in an ala carte style. I mean, why waste room in the midsection for cornbread or other items....we're here for the 'Q, right? Anyway, I ordered 3 ribs, a small serving of tri-tip, and a small serving of pulled pork. Staring at the menu, I figured I'd go for it and add small servings of slaw, potato salad, and the baked beans, to round out the occasion. Leftovers later won't hurt. Well, I started in on the ribs using both versions of the house bbq sauce, regular and jalapeño. Sauces were okay, I thought a little more kick from the jalapeño would have been nice. I detected a rather heavy taste of salt in the first rib with sauce so I tried the second without....yeah, either the rub is heavy on salt, or they brine them or ? Won't have the ribs again. The pulled pork was ok and the tri-tip was juicy but nothing extraordinary. The sides were obviously made in house (not the usual Reser's stuff that many places disguise as in-house) and were very tasty, hence the three star rating. Nothing terrible, but nothing really to bring me back. Mary's might make some people happy in the "BBQ Desert" we live in here in the Rogue Valley, but not me. This will be my first and last dance here. read more
