You can only order a sandwich, baked potato, or order everything individually. They do not have anything like a 2 meat plate or 3 meat plate like most bbq places. If you try to build your own sampler plate, it will be really expensive. A bit disappointing, but you should still give them a try. read more

I ordered the tri tip sandwich with a baked potato side. The sandwich was on a hoagie roll and layered with tri trip. The tri tip had a good Smokey flavor and a generous portion of meat. The cashier was very warm and friendly and provided an overview of the menu as we were first time customers. The food was prepared within minutes of payment. She was extremely quick and efficient. The restaurant has a Texas restaurant type of vibe. On the T.V. was a music playlist of various country songs giving it a southern ambiance. I wanted so bad to try this place. I came through Medford on Saturday, and had already eaten so when I came back through on Tuesday I went straight there even before I got my hotel room. They were out of ribs which was disappointing so I tried the BBQ tri tip plus a sausage sandwich and potato salad. All I can say is the tri tip was so dry it was in eatable. The sausage sand wasn't very good but I did eat the meat out of the bread. But the potato salad was really good. So considering I spent over $30 and only ate $5 was sad. I do want to add that the young lady that waited on me deserves 5 stars. But the food only gets 1 star. read more

I have been to a lot of BBQ places and this place is okay. The service was awesome, the employee was extremely helpful and we had a good conversation about something completely unrelated to work. The place is hot because there's no AC, so I would recommend taking it to go. I tried the ribs, tri tip and have a loaded baked potato with pulled pork on top. The tri tip was good, I would definitely have that again. The ribs are boiled, so they fall apart when you eat them, not my preferred way to eat them so I wouldn't recommend or get them again. They also left the membrane on the back of the rib on and that's just unsavory and a weird texture in your mouth. The loaded baked potato was 50/50, the potato was under cooked so it was still hard but the pulled pork on it was great! I liked the sauces, the jalapeño bbq sauce was good with a little kick, the regular sauce was also good. Overall I would definitely eat here again. I would recommend to give it a try even if it's just once. read more

Unfortunately we were charged and given the food and then told they had no butter. (No butter for a baked potato?!) couldn't exactly return it at that point, so was a bit disappointed. My husband and I went there today to compare this restaurant to other BBQ places. The food was good, but it didn't have much BBQ flavor. Not smokey at all. Their BBQ sauce wasn't that great either. No smoke flavor. I loved the potato salad. It was very good. The baked beans needed some help. They need some garlic, green pepper and a bit of molasses to flavor them up. The serving size of the sandwich and sides was great. Very filling, but just not enough BBQ flavor. Not sure if we'll go back again. It's a nice little place. read more

This is a hole in the wall, take out, rather than a sit in and eat place. There are a couple of tables, but the interior is anything but hospitable, although the service (presumably Mary?) is friendly, and extremely helpful. The outdoor eating is a couple of folding chairs, and a card table, looking at a strip mall parking lot. We grabbed a bottle of beer each and ate inside. Both the Tri-tip and pulled pork sandwiches were moist (too moist) plentiful, and flavorful, which is curious, because the rolls the meats are served on are immediately unusable, and fall apart like the aforementioned folding chairs outside the premises. They end up being just blobs of soaked bread that subtract from the well prepared meat. Alas the BBQ sauces are also flavorless, and we could taste no difference between the two sauces offered. Also they had a weird texture, kind of like salsa sent through a blender. The two sides were pretty good, the baked beans being wonderful, if a little on the sweet side. The meat is really well prepared and Mary has a good handle on it. If she just sent a little more time on the final presentation (I don't know, maybe toast the buns, or drain the meat a little bit) this could be a go-to place. In the meantime, I'd stick to just ordering meat only plates, but the board doesn't really spell out what $40 of meat only, gets you, but if the well priced sandwiches are any indication, it's probably a lot. I think she also offer dinners for 4 which would probably be your best bet. If you like BBQ, you still might want to give it a try! I'm from GA and this is the best bbq we've had on the west coast! Everything is homemade, fresh and delicious! Quaint seating inside. Every person who has served us has been friendly and welcoming! Mary's BBQ catered our Club installation dinner. We had it scheduled for Saturday night. She called and said her employee double booked that night and asked us to move to Sunday. We found out she was taking her employees to Medford. For our dinner of 50 people she gave us one employee who was also the bartender. Vegetables were previously frozen and turned to mush. The Tri Tip was over cooked and had no flavor, the pasta had little chicken. Dessert which we paid $5 for was a couple sheet cakes from Costco. We got no coffee or tea. The tables had a tablecloth but all the silverware was on the buffet line. We had to continually ask for knifes, sour cream and other items. The salad was at least 3 days old. In the past we had great experiences at the golf course but we now have to find a new place for our Christmas Party. read more

First off I'd like to offer Mary a major kudos for opening a real brick and mortar sit down BBQ! In an age of food trucks that are open from 11 until 3 or when they sell out opening a restaurant that's open seven days a week from 11 am until 9 pm is a brave undertaking. (During our brief conversation is was mentioned they may close Sunday's during the winter months.) Mary's Barbecue Place is just that, a BBQ joint complete with plastic covered picnic tables and paper plates. There are mostly pros and a couple of cons. The MEAT of it... (pun intended) REAL BBQ. That means low and slow smoked meats using a stick burning smoker. Most BBQ's (and I use that term generously) are using pellet smokers (including me at home) which you can start and pretty much walk away from. Mary is tending fire and burning REAL WOOD... In their case madrone which offers a lighter smoked flavor than oak, hickory or fruit woods. If you've ever traveled in the south or midwest and tried BBQ, it's always smoked over real wood, using a pellet smoker in Kansas, Tennessee or Texas you'd be tarred and feathered... The meats they're offering are quite good. This visit I tasted the chicken and pulled pork. The chicken offering is boneless, skinless thigh meat marinated and then slow smoked. It was moist and flavorful. The pulled pork had a good bark (crust) and texture, I like a little more smoke but that's hard to do when you're using one smoker for all of your meats. All in all quite tasty. The first CON in my book is the lack of brisket on the menu. I get it, brisket takes 18+ hours to do right and as a mom and pop place there aren't enough hours in the day. (I hope that eventually they'll get enough community support to maybe offer brisket at least one day a week.) Side dishes are your traditional BBQ fare, baked beans (very good), cole slaw, macaroni salad, potato salad etc. It would have been nice to have a baked potato option. Mary's serves their meat "unsauced" meaning you can odd your own. They offer two versions of their house made sauce, regular and spicy. The sauce was a bit to the tart side for my taste, I prefer a Kansas City style sauce which is a little sweeter, that's my other con. In addition to the pulled pork and chicken they also offer pork ribs (spare ribs), smoked sausage and tri tip. Entree's are available as meat only or on sandwiches. Well worth a visit, I'll be going back and hope to see a little transformation as they grow. read more

They were out of ribs (darn it!)... but Daniel and I each got the 2 meat 2 sides option ...and we both got the pulled pork and tri tip (and baked beans and potato salad). Yum! They also bottle their own BBQ sauce, and I really like the Jalapeño one -- great taste, and not outrageously hot.... the tri tip and pulled pork were both tender and flavorful, but not overwhelmed with seasoning. The baked beans are cooked there, as I saw her dishing them up from the cooker. Good taste, not too sweet. And I am assuming that the potato salad is made on the premises as well. This place has a drive through, and a nicely spaced sit down area. We will definitely be back! read more

I have been disappointed in my two stops at Mary's. Last time I took home boneless/skinless chicken thighs. I never knew you could cook thighs so much that they are dried out. I also really dislike that they hold the meat warm in water. even if it's beef or chicken stock BBQ shouldn't be in water of any kind. With Montgomery Meats and Sweet Tea Express so close I'll pass on Mary's oak destroyed meat. Tastes like the valley smells in the middle of fire season. Sorry Mary read more
