Mary's is comfort food at its finest. My go to order is a grilled cheese w/ bacon & a cup of fruit as the side. My waitress was sweet as the pie they serve. She was on her A game & took care of me. My grilled cheese bread was buttered up & crisp in all the right places. My bacon was crunchy & the cheese was cheesing. My fruit was very fresh & refreshing. Inside is cozy & comforting like a grandma's living room but w/o the plastic covers on the couch. It was very sparkling clean including the bathrooms which honestly deserves its own round of applause.

Excellent diner in Waterbury. They've expanded the restaurant so much more seating. Ample private parking.

Majority of the tables are booths so it was a cozy setting to walk into when it was cold and rainy outside. Our waiter was polite and attentive and stated his recommendations when my dad ordered the Chicken Souvlaki and wasn't sure about its ingredients at first (he can be picky) our waiter stated that 'you won't regret it' also he and two other people (that I noticed) are Greek so of course we had to trust his opinion lol. He was right, and everyone's food was delicious and came out so quick! Definitely a filling lunch, happy we stopped in!

I was here yesterday on election day 11.3.20 and the place was pretty packed. I ordered but after sitting there for about 10 minutes and studying the entire restaurant I realized I had to leave. The social distancing wasn't being adhered to. Not being enforced. There were too many people almost on top of each other. Yes, a little exaggeration but you kind of get the picture. There were too many people in the restaurant at one time. It was over the mandated 50% capacity. The staff was nice but extremely busy. I got up and paid for my order and told them that I needed it to go which was a great call. I'm not jeopardizing my health just to sit and have breakfast in a restaurant. They recently moved from down or up the street to a different building that used to be called Jimmy's ll. This move to this different location happened at some point between September 2020 & October 2020. Today is election day November 3rd 2020 that I'm here. This restaurant was remodeled from an existing breakfast and it's in very good shape. It looked clean from what i saw. Downfall. Big Downfall - waitress bright me a cup of water and delivered it to me with her hand in top of the cups rim where i would normally drink from and put my mouth on. But not today. Even though she left me a straw. I pushed it over to the other side of the table and left it there. The omelette that I took to go tasted good. Decent amount of cheese. There were a bountiful amount of home fried potatoes which were also good and fresh. The wheat toast was also good. They also gave enough of most of the condiments in the to go bag. Downfall- they didn't give me any jelly for the toast. Been coming to Mary's for about 10 years or so. I used to visit their old location which was located right down the street on the same side of the road. Their food has always been solid. I've added 2 pics from August 2016 from their original location.

You won't be disappointed in the food nor service at Mary's Diner. The staff who work there are happy to be there. They go above and beyond when it comes to the customers they provide service for. I've been there numerous times.

This diner is pretty good with above average food. Just very costly and you will break the bank coming here. Everything I ordered is the hungry man special and a sandwich which came out to 19.50 before tip. I don't think this place is good for band for your buck but as a once in a time place it's ok. All the food was great no complaints there.

Average diner food. Average service with an ambience that is noisy and unproductive for conversation. I will not go back here.

I went alone today because I needed to pick a place for breakfast and get some sustenance in my body because I know I'm gonna need it. I'm working a side quest later today and I had time before my train came. There's not much to this diner, but it does kind of have an old-timey feel to it which is not at all a bad thing in this case. The lighting gives off a vibe that this place might have been more posh in a time long ago. But I think what really factors into my rating today is the customer service because all the employees I came across today here were super chill and nice. One of them took the time to notice I was wearing a fundraiser shirt and we talked a little bit about Tom Petty which was nice. One bit that might make you readers chuckle is that my waitress asked out of the blue if I vlog. I said no and she remarked I looked like I would be good at it. I smiled at that because little did they know I write reviews here on Yelp and I was not about to let them know that. On top of all that, service was very quick. In fact, it was quick enough to make me think twice about paying another visit to Spirit Cafe in the future. I was greeted immediately (I decided on a bar seat since I was by myself), they got my food out real quick, I got my coffee almost right after I ordered, and they even took care to bring out the syrup in advance with my coffee. Also, prices are very reasonable. For what I had today, my price was $12.29, which for 2026 is pretty good when you consider that breakfast was a full stack of french toast with a side of bacon. There is a $10 credit card minimum, but since I had a food order this time around I didn't mind that as much this time around. As for the food, coffee was good. I was given the full stack, sliced in half with butter to spread around, and 3 strips of bacon. And before any weirdos decide to judge me, yes I do put syrup on my bacon. Might as well since I'm having something such as french toast. The bacon was crispy and seasoned well. Where I do have a slight criticism for was the french toast. I usually do not like to see the egg whenever I am served this breakfast, and I was able to see the egg used in this order. It was also a little on the soggy side, but not too bad. It was an overall satisfying breakfast that will help tie me over to lunch and/or dinner. Honestly, even though my rating here is a 4, it really should be a 4.5 and that is what I would actually give it if half-stars were a thing. The customer service was excellent enough that you can't really go wrong with either rating here. I will gladly return another chance I get.

So sweet to us and understanding we had just ate, professional and recommended dishes for our next visit, other great places, just one of the best servers we have had recently. The restaurant offers indoor seating, has a lovely bar area, I saw two tables that looked perfect for a wintery romantic dinner by the fireplace (electric I think). But it's the outdoor dining on the water that's truly special. I asked Katie about the beautiful flowers everywhere and she explained the owners wife handles them all. Talk about a green thumb!! Amazing. Idk why the low rating on yelp but I wanted to give five stars for service, ambience, and cleanliness but couldn't because we didn't eat so tomorrow I hope to add to this review with our food experience. Go with complete confidence. Unfortunately Katie is going back to teaching kiddos soon but just go.
