I've been going to Mary's in Santee for years and always treated very good. Donuts are the best and always fresh. Came to the Lakeside store today while having my car worked on. I am disappointed in there food safety practice. Employee with long blond hair today, took 4 customers order without CHANGING her gloves. She will pick up the donuts wearing the same gloves and chargers them, touching money and card with the SAME gloves and then grab the next donut with the SAME glove. Therefore,the bacteria on the money is now in the next customer's donuts. This is cross-contamination. She should changed gloves every customers. Lucky the next employee came in to serve donuts and the only who didn't change gloves didn't serve my food. Employees should of know the food safety and that bacteria and germs will stay in the gloves and she should of changed them. Mary's Donuts are amazing, they just need to train employee with importance of food SAFETY. I am more shock that the customers didn't say anything. Cross contamination can get people sick. read more

Mary's donuts is possibly the best local small business in Lakeside California. The donuts are the best and I mean better than any other donut store. Every time I get donuts there, they're fresh, soft and they taste excellent. Highly recommended, great staff, clean store, what can I say more? The best apple fritter I've tried and I've tried many donut places. They're huge and warm and gooey on the inside and crunchy on the outside with just the perfect amount of glaze. Their bear claws are also huge and have a wonderful peanut butter and jelly filling in the inside that is delicious! The maple bacon bars are also very good as well as the cream puffs which have powdered sugar on the outside and come in either lemon or custard flavors. I've been coming to Mary's Donuts for years now since they've had their original Santee location. I'm so glad they are branching out and opened up another location even closer to me in Lakeside. I love the staff. They're so friendly and welcoming. Besides Donut Bar, Mary's Donuts happens to be one of my top favorite donut joints in SD. They have a pretty good selection of donuts to choose from but they do run out of certain flavors sometimes. The donuts have that soft chewy consistency to it. Love it! Some of their donuts like the blueberry and red velvet donuts have a sort of cake like texture to it. Very good. read more

Definitely will not be returning to this location. Don't get me wrong the donuts are amazing. But the service is TRASH. It's obvious that no one wants to work. I couldn't find the donuts I was looking for. She pointed them out and was like right here duh. Then I paid for my donuts.. she flipped the screen for tip questions and walked off. No " thank you, or have a nice night". They seriously need to fix their attitudes. NO one asked you to work there. We get it no one wants to work these days. I love donuts and have made a practice of trying as many donut places as possible. I don't know that I've tried all of the donut shops in San Diego, but I've got to be pretty darn near close to it. I just want to give kudos to the owner of Mary's Donut. What was obvious an upset from a customer over wearing the "mandatory" mask, the owner stood his ground that everyone entering the facility must comply. I myself cannot stand these masks and cannot wait for the day they are not required, nor do I believe they are 100% needed but, there are a lot of people that are uncomfortable being around others without them so, I am not only complying but doing it out of consideration of others. I am pretty sure that being in a Food Service industry that these orders must be followed when it comes to their licensing. Let me add that my apple fritter was on point as usual!! Going out on a limb here, but if you think that these donuts aren't good then you're used to eating premade grocery store donuts because when I read the negative reviews I'm amazed. If you can't speak up and say "I was next" then you seriously need to grow up. We love both locations and used to go to the original Mary's regularly. A special treat, and our granddaughter is always thrilled when we get donuts after her sleepover at our house. They do get busy, but if you expect a worker to stop and worry about your "feelings" again, grow up. The maple bacon is the best and the cinnamon twists are delicious. My husband always gets a custard filled and a cinnamon roll. These are the best doughnuts in east county...in my and hundreds of other donut connoisseurs opinions! read more

Stopped by for the first time last night. The location & signage out front is super unique and looks great. By the looks of the place (inside & out) I expected to really be in for a treat. $5.90 for half a dozen donuts (not including specialty) .... I don't get donuts often but I don't think I've ever paid that much. For the price the donuts should have been better but they were like any other donut at any hole in the wall joint. Just wanted some Donuts so I stopped in. Only bought Donuts but will have to try other items in the future. LOCATION: They sit right on the main street at a 4-way intersection with street parking plus more off street parking around the side. STAFF: Everyone was very friendly and helpful. They were pretty busy when I came in but still onlt took a few minutes to get in and get my order and be on my way. Food: The Donuts were really fresh and tasted great. No complaints at all. I am just so disappointed with Mary's Donuts. They lost my special order that was really the centerpiece idea for my son's birthday party. I made sure to order in person a week in advance and saw that everything's was written down correctly. I imagined the look on my son's face when he saw his giant pink birthday donut with rainbow sprinkles, to go with his Simpson's donut party. I also ordered coordinating regular sized donuts and other assorted donuts. When I came in after 9AM to pick up my order, I assumed I could just grab it quickly, since it was already paid for and they said it would be ready by 7AM. The employees  said they had no order for a birthday donut. I found them my receipt and they refunded just the price of the birthday donut and tried to stuff random donuts in boxes. None of the donuts were even close to what I had ordered, and I was so flustered because I was now running late to set up for my son's party. They wrote happy birthday on an apple fritter... let me tell you, not the same look. It may taste good, but my husband said it looked like we were going for the poop emoji theme and one of the kids said "that doesn't look like a donut". I left my phone number and said I wanted to be called, but I haven't heard from them yet. I don't know what they could do to fix the experience at this point, but I hope that they improve their ordering procedures so this doesn't happen to anyone else. We love Mary's. We've used them a few times now for our parties and the donuts are always a hit. I called a large order in for my mom's 70th birthday party and spoke to Lacy. Stormy has catering experience and knew just how to handle the order. We loved all of her creative input. They created a 3-tier "cake" along with several other customizations.
