They looks plain, like nothing's no special but I'm so glad I tried it because it is so yummy. They also have these little things they call puffs and they are filled with custard or raspberry and they're delicious. We come here just about every week. My son loves this place and asks all week when he can go. Everyone that works there is super nice and very helpful. Big fan of Mary's! Its right around the corner from the bf's apartment so its a little hard not to say yes to a trip over, but they never disappoint. They step outside the norms on some of their stuff especially on the bear claws they fill with peanut butter and jelly, completely amazing. Only gripes are the size of the shop and the front door, its way too small for how good they are and the amount of clients they get, they definitely need to expand. As for the front door, its cute and kinda old timey, I get it, but they need to get a bigger and more leveled entry way and a modern set of double doors. We went in to pick up and the gentlemen couldn't find it so he said he will call the owner and still no donut. So he tells me to come back in a couple hours so they can make it again. Reading the previous reviews, I wish I had the positive experience that the others had. This is my first Yelp review, and I'm hoping it'll be constructive. I was excited to have Mary's Donuts open in Lakeside, as we were going to RIMS that unfortunately didn't make it too long on Los Coches. When I discussed my experience with two friends separately, they each had similar issues with the customer service. When I first entered, I was not greeted; which is fine, another group was being helped. It seemed to be a little slow paced and I was eventually helped a few minutes later. When it was my turn, I felt I was more of a bother than a customer. The employee, in particular, wasn't too friendly. Which was odd for me knowing how much people enjoyed it in Santee and it being a new business in Lakeside. As I started my order, I'm not sure if the employee wasn't paying attention as I ordered, or what the issue was. I said I wanted a dozen sprinkle donut holes, and a dozen (half random sprinkles and the other half random old fashioned). They started with the holes and as I was paying attention to my kids, they confirmed I wanted glazed donut holes? Said sprinkle please. Moved onto the box of regular donuts, and said again that I wanted half to be whatever sprinkles and then I'd get one of each old fashioned. They pulled a donut up and asked if I wanted a coconut one? Said no, any random sprinkles, please. When they filled the sprinkles, I went on to reminding them about the old fashioned's. They asked if I wanted them in the same box? Miffed, I asked will they not fit in the same box? Then I saw they filled the whole box with sprinkle donuts, instead of half like I asked a couple times. I'm pretty go with the flow, and I felt like I had been in there for 10min already, so I said no biggie, I'll just take 2 O.F. on the side. While ringing me up, they had the box and bag of 2 O.F., and the bag of holes was up on the counter. I mentioned to not forget about the holes, they said they got them. As I was finishing my payment with my CC, another employee asked if the bag on the counter was mine. The employee assisting me said they thought the bag with the box were the holes (they were the old fashioned's). They mentioned they didn't ring up the 2 O.F. and were just going to give them to me. I happened to have $2 in my wallet, so I gave them that and they were fine with that. As I got in the car, of course the kids wanted a donut so I opened the box and there were 11 sprinkle donuts in there, not a dozen. Oh well! I decided I wasn't going to be a return customer and would go back to Country Donuts next time. Yesterday, my girlfriend and I were on the phone and she was going to pick up donuts. I joked not to go to Mary's, but she didn't hear me. When I saw her later, I asked her where she went to pick them up, and she said Mary's. She gave me a look and I asked how her experience was? She said it was horrible and described the same employee. Not being acknowledged for awhile upon entering, and while being assisted, it just felt to her like she was being a nuisance for ordering 3 dozen. I told her our other friend went in a little while ago and she was not greeted and was ignored while some paperwork was being finished for about 5min. I really hope that this business succeeds and that their customer service isn't like this for any more of their customers. We see businesses in Lakeside go in and it's always sad seeing them not make it. read more

Unfortunately marys donuts is under new management and their donuts are not what they used to be. The frosting is half the amount and they not made throughout the day anymore therefore not as fresh. First time at the new location. It was easy to find and the donuts are delicious as usual. My favorite is the custard filled cream puffs. The bacon covered donut was good too! They even have seats inside to eat your donuts :) you can also buy coffee, milk or juice in the little refrigerators to enjoy with your donuts.
