We went both Saturday and Sunday opening weekend. The place is very nice inside - very open and welcoming. The owner is very nice as well. I am hoping the food improves as I love the atmosphere but at least my experience for opening weekend was meh at best. The tortillas were good but we ordered multiple tacos of different variety and surprisingly they were all very bland just nothing special at all. Their hot sauce/salsa also was bland no kick at all. Weirdly none of my cheese was anywhere close to being melted ? I was excited when I saw the amount of bacon But it was more like a salty beef jerky it may have been over cooked or a very different bacon than I'm used to. The first day it was large salty very hard pieces(I brought home to our dogs) but the second day smaller pieces but still super salty and hard. They didn't have iced tea yet? Or any other type of condiments ie pico de Gallo , cilantro etc hopefully that is coming. So fingers crossed for the future read more

We live in the area and have always heard of this place for great tacos. So we decided to give it a try. We tried various of their special tacos and the barbacoa taco. It is not a terrible place but it is most certainly not the best tacos in San Antonio... not even the best tacos on bandera rd. The red salsa tasted like water with tomato paste, first red flag. The flour tortillas were huge with just a scoop of filling, second red flag. There really was nothing special about it occasionally if you got a bite of bacon there was a lot of flavor. My friends went on opening day and had high hopes. we first noticed the expensive Tacos, but we gave them the benefit of the doubt as we had seen how much effort is put into their Tortillas. We sat down and when our food arrived i was dumbfounded. Their beans were a paste that tasted like water, they might've been huge but they had little to no cheese. I swear it was canned. Not only that for my friends meal he asked for a slice of bacon for his Taco and they gave him a cup of shredded bacon like the one's you put in Salad. Best tacos I've found so far! The tortillas are so good it's like biting into a warm cloud of pleasure! I am hooked on this place and It's beautiful too! The first thing I saw when I walked into the restaurant was a big glass window, and behind the window was a large beautiful white table. There was a woman who was carefully rolling out the fresh homemade tortillas. Trust me when I say...my mouth was watering as I stood in line to place my order. I wake up in the mornings and the first thing I think of is..Mary's tacos. Thank goodness I live across the street from that place. You've got to try it to believe it!! Very clean restaurant inside. You order at the counter, pay for your order then find a table and wait for them to call your name. When your name is called you go and pick up your food at the counter. I ordered breakfast tacos and they were served warm. The bacon in the tacos are chopped into pieces cooked well done and then sprinkled on. Barbacoa taco is all meat and good. The carne guisada taco that I received was more like shredded beef and was a bit salty. I ordered chips and salsa to go and were very tasty. Soda, tea and coffee are all self serve. Tortillas are homemade and taste good. Prices are very reasonable. read more

And the owners are wonderful local small business owners! Can't recommend it highly enough. Same great tacos as in Boerne, but with more dining space and better parking. Pretty decent, albeit salty, tacos. What turns me off is the lack of a dedicated area for online orders. Right next to the "Online Orders" sign is a lady who's barking names like nobody's business, and she couldn't be bothered to tell me if my order was available. I had to ask someone else, a second time, to discover that my order was in the system but apparently "not printed." AKA they either lost it or gave it to someone else. There is no real good waiting space and as previously mentioned, the lady yelling is really, really loud. I'd wait until they make some enhancements to their crowd control system, because currently it's utter chaos. read more

Went this am. Tortillas are good,both flour and corn. The carne guisada was very good. The tacos are big. I had the chilaquiles plate and I will never have it again. The tomatillo salsa on top was extremely sour! They need to taste it before plopping it all over the plate. It was the only thing I could taste. The inside is very nice and the order was ready quick. I heard Mary's Taco in Helotes had the greatest breakfasts so couldn't wait to try them and today was my fourth and final visit. Our first visit was ok, tacos are huge but pricey. Flavor was average or bland each visit. Twice I went wanting to try their mendo and they didn't have it (once on a Saturday, other was a Sunday). Today my wife brought me a to-go order in a very small container. I'm not sure what size but to top it off it wasn't even full & they charged $8.50 for it...really??? My regular (weekend) breakfast stop is Tia's Taco Hut in Leon Valley. They serve you twice Mary's Taco (Helotes) amount for less money. One phone in order they couldn't find so I waited to have it remade. Sure killed the "convenience" of phoning ahead. My other complaint is it seems I always get the same cashier and she has never once thanked me lol, wow! One visit I had asked her a question after paying and it seemed to have inconvenienced and annoyed her. They do get great reviews tho, can't figure out why. I'll be returning to Tia's! read more

I just want to say I was at disgust with a lady at the front counter taking orders this morning. I always come in here with my support dog and eat here. Everyone has always been very nice. But this morning this lady with glasses and heavy set. Yelled at me in front of everyone very loudly and told me that I could not be in there and I had to get out. Everyone was staring because she was so loud. So I had told her I was always welcome there and I do come a lot with my support dog and she just shrugged her shoulders and decided to take my order. I ordered my tacos and after I paid she just turned around and walked off. So when she did give me the cold shoulder I told her thank you to get her attention for being so rude she ignored me once again so I made it noticeable that I was saying thank you for her service and taking my order she just lifted her head looked at me and then walked off. Boyyy I was so pissed at her rudeness I should have pulled a manager and talk to them about her. What's going on with customer service these days. This defiantly was not no youngster either.
