Eddie's has gotta be the most overhyped taqueria in San Antonio. I've known some people who love them but I was just impressed only once. First time going to this location on a Saturday and the place was absolutely packed! There was luckily no wait for a table and we were seated quickly. They had a large menu with all your expected San Antonio breakfast options. I got a papa a La mexicana breakfast taco. The tortilla was very good (home made) although just a little thick for my preference. The potatoes were nicely cooked and the the flavor was great. They had a tasty green salsa on the table which was a nice addition to the taco. They have little packaged desserts and candy by where you enter. The food was good. Love the rice, it reminds me of my childhood. Beef fajitas and cheese enchiladas were on point. Over all, the food was very tasty. The reason for the neutral score, the service. Server was only seen once. No one was paying any attention to my table. I kept having to flag down other people for things I needed. Cashier seemed annoyed and irritated that people were paying for their food. The parking is terrible. I was blocked in and had to wait for the drive thru cars to move. All the Tex-Mex on my losing streak was pretty abysmal,flavorless and the even the enchiladas were dry as the Atacama desert. There enchiladas here gave me hope again and the carne was exquisite. Tortillas were fluffy and had good char markings.Flavor was what it should be. This location is pretty central. You can find it on the corner of gente and gentrification and they keep it real here so I was happy to support this place. I'm a regular at Eddie's Taco House. Having lived in San Antonio (TexMex Capital of the World IMHO) I have found no better TexMex food than Eddie's! I gained 20 pounds when we lived 3 blocks from the restaurant. Yes, the prices have gone up in the past few years, but they still have the best flour tortillas anywhere. Fajitas--AMAZING! Fajitas Salad? BEST LOW CARB MEAL EVER! Eddie's Deluxe? It's gigantic, but you can't stop eating it because it is all so good! Tamales, enchilada, taco, chalupa, enchilada, rice and beans. It's ALL there!! The service is always great. We eat there enough that most of the wait staff know our drinks and our typical order. I love it when they ask me, "No Eddie's Deluxe today?" They pay attention! The dining area is casual but I don't like to sit too close to the Internet powered Juke box because it can get pretty loud. If you are visiting San Antonio and have had enough of the touristy places, go to Eddie's and have the great stuff with us locals. You won't regret it. read more
