First time here and wanted something quick and easy. Stopped by on a whim and ordered 2 bean and cheese tacos at the drive thru and wow it was fast. Pulled up to the window after two cars (no wait) and was greeted by a nice man. I added on a canned DP and he generously asked if I wanted salsa. It all came out to $5.27. I absolutely LOVE Tacos Ricos. I usually order delivery and the food is always hot and fresh. They are also super inexpensive so I can load up on tacos and have them last a day and a half. Before sitting down to write this review, I asked myself, "What would constitute the worst breakfast taco in town?" Cold, store-bought flour tortillas? Skimpy fillings? Overcooked eggs? The titular offerings at Tacos Ricos -- an effulgent beacon of Tex-Mex favorites catering largely to morning commuters -- aren't *quite* the worst in town, but I'd stop well short of calling them "ricos," a Spanish adjective synonymous with "delicioso" and "exquisito." The exiguous dine-in area is too cramped to accommodate customers during the pandemic, so the drive-thru is your only option at the moment. The vast majority of patrons, myself included, seem to be morning commuters, so I doubt the draconian spacing limitations have affected business. Alas, parts of the menu board are too faded to read, so I was forced to order what I assumed any self-respecting Tex-Mex joint would offer: an assortment of breakfast tacos to include chorizo and egg, bacon and egg, and bean and cheese. Luckily, all three were available. Unluckily, though, these tacos were among the worst I've had in San Antonio, including Bill Miller's (and that's saying something). The fillings were skimpy, the eggs were underseasoned and overcooked, the chorizo had an unpleasant chalky texture, and the bacon was thin and flaccid. The refried beans in the bean and cheese taco bore none of the rich, savory flavors of lard (a fundamental in "auténtico" Tex-Mex), and the mere pinch of yellow cheese was barely perceptible both in appearance and flavor. The flour tortillas were serviceable but far from the warm, toasty, diaphanous discs of my dreams. I will be my usual magnanimous self, however, and award a star for the tortillas, which I would compare favorably to those from Taco Cabana. I realize that Tacos Ricos offers many items other than breakfast tacos, but I'd wager that the vast majority of business hinges upon the early-morning breakfast taco rush. For this reason alone, I feel justified reviewing only the breakfast taco portion of the menu. If the tiny kitchen can't execute a simple breakfast taco, then I can only assume that other offerings would also fail to impress. Breakfast tacos are as ubiquitous to San Antonio as lobster rolls are to Eastport, Maine, so this place needs to get its act together. The kitchen could learn much from the pros at El Buen Gusto, an extraordinary hidden gem just a short drive away. If that doesn't work, then consider renaming the business "Tacos Por Debajo del Promedio." read more

This is our go to breakfast taco place on bandera. You can't miss it with the yellow building. They have homemade tortillas and everything is always good and fresh. The workers are friendly.
