We found Comfort Cafe in a Google search and it had a 4.8 rating, so we decided to try it. We were NOT disappointed! The food was delicious with big (shareable) portions, and we had great service! But the thing that surprised us the most is when we sat down and read the menu and saw the story behind the cafe. What a cool idea! Our server, John, shared a little bit of his story with us and we were so happy for him! Good humans from the hostess to the servers to the chefs! We will be back and will spread the word!

The Yolkster showed solid technique. The hollandaise was glossy, properly emulsified and balanced between richness and acidity. The over-easy egg released a perfectly fluid yolk, while the scratch-made English muffin was nicely browned and crisp outside with a tender interior. The bacon was a little overdone for me, but the chicken sausage was a pleasant surprise with a nice balance of acid and salt. The Dirty South looks heavy when it arrives, but the dish comes together surprisingly well. The sausage gravy was one of the better versions I've had in a while. Good consistency, proper color, plenty of sausage and none of the raw or scorched flour taste that can ruin a gravy. The biscuit was dense but fully cooked with visible layers. The potatoes could have used more exterior crispness. The pico brought a welcome freshness and acidity that cut through the richness of the gravy, biscuit, egg and cheese. A little more would have helped maintain that balance throughout the dish. What impressed me most was the technique behind all that personality. Scratch-made breads, properly cooked eggs, a well-made hollandaise and carefully prepared sausage gravy show a kitchen paying attention to the fundamentals. I left curious about the rest of the menu. I can excuse one but TWO different sets of silverware dirty? We eventually asked for plastic silverware to use. The waitress was also pretty inattentive and did not bring out our drinks until the very end and had the audacity to ask me why we didn't remind her. Maybe because you never visited our table for us to even ask you about it?? Anyways this is unfortunate because the food was actually pretty good but due to the service and lack of safety protocols in the place it affected the whole company for us and we won't be visiting other locations in the future most likely.

This is a necessary review update to what was previously a decent new spot in the area. Yesterday, I ordered my usual 12oz steak and shrimp, medium rare. They served a steak portion that was, at best, 5oz, and it had been cooked far beyond well done. The meal included 5 tiny rubbery overcooked shrimp (menu says 6) that had not been deveined before overcooking them. I asked for a manager and was told there was not one on duty, but 'he' would be back at 9:00pm. I called at that time and got voicemail. I asked for a prompt return call... that never came. I called today and spoke to "Oscar," who was belligerent and argumentative, at first refusing to provide me with the manager's name, then claiming he was the manager. When I attempted to share my experience with him, he repeatedly interrupted and shouted me down. My guess is that the owner doesn't know that Oscar and crew are torpedoing his new establishment.
