I ordered the Papa Asada and my fiancee ordered the Matamoras Tacos. Her chicken tacos were okay and she liked them. But my Asada clearly wasn't fresh and had that day-old grease taste. It got more nasty the more of it that I ate. The rest of the Papa Asada was okay but was pretty plain without much taste. Another frustrating tidbit was the plastic packaging for the sour cream and the brown / green salsas. It was almost impossible to open them. We finally managed to open a green salsa package which we shared. It gave the Papa Asada a bit more taste, as did the sour cream. Without it, everything was pretty bland. All-in-all, for nearly $40 we weren't all that impressed. It's drive-thru quality food with sit-down restaurant prices. We may try Tacos Vitali again if we're hungry and happen to drive by. But we won't try the Babcock location again. read more

I've been wanting to try this place out, so I finally went there. I ordered the Matamoras street tacos. Everything was very amazing and flavorful and cooked fresh. The staff was very friendly and took the time to explain to me that they had a taco Tuesday by one get one free. Tried Taco Vitali and honestly feel like it's a bit overhyped for what you get. The food is decent, but the prices are pretty high, which makes it hard to justify compared to other taco spots in San Antonio. Pros: Cool aesthetic building and fast service. Clean ingredients. Went to one of my old favorite taco spots in San Antonio called Tacos Vitali. They're like a drive in with outdoor seating as well as a drive thru. I got their 6 taco set with mixto meat (half bisteck and trompo). The tacos came with a cup of bean soup, 2 salsa bags, a lime, and a ball of grilled onions. I've never had salsa in a bag before, it was a little difficult to open but they had slits already placed for you. I thought it wouldn't be enough for the 6 tacos but it was just the right amount. The meat in general didn't hit as much as I remembered. The bisteck was still good and tender, the trompo however was a little tougher. The tortillas were really moist as well so some of them broke apart really easily. The soup was just ok this time too. TLDR: If you like Mexican 'Street Tacos', this place is for you! The street taco plate here is to die for. Get the 'bistek' (Mexican style beef) and enjoy some of the best there are around San Antonio. Love the inclusion of the grilled onions, cilantro, salsa, limes, and even a couple little potatoes. I'd highly recommend adding the avocado slices as well, you'll be in heaven. Also, the beans are only a small portion but they're absolutely delicious, I want their recipe. Parking is plentiful, the layout is a little odd, as I think this location used to be a Sonic's based on the diagonal parking. Note that there are only 3-4 small tables inside, and the outside tables have no shelter from the sun, wind, or rain. Highly recommend you get this to go. First time here. I'll start with it's so hot inside so definitely recommend sitting outside if it's cool or get to go not many options inside and it's to hot anyways. The girl in the front was nice so great customer service. I did asked for the bathroom and just fyi it's outside in the back of the restaurant it's so random. Now the food, it's good but nothing to go out of my way. The bistec tacos were better than the pork ones. Just the flavor and seasoning. We have been wanting to try this place for a while! They have a small menu which made things easy. I ordered the tacos asada. Unfortunately, the woman who took our order heard "papa asada." We didn't realize it until our food was ready. We tried to give back the food (untouched, unopened) and they wouldn't take it. Quite frankly, the woman said I should have noticed she rang up the wrong thing when I was ordering and let her know. My husband had tacos so we just went with it. Anyways, the papa was good. If a restaurant is gonna have a limited menu, those limited items have to be bomb... Vitali delivered. These tacos are bomb. The building is an old Sonic, so if the weather isn't nice you'll probably need to hit the drive through or just get it to go because indoor seating is very limited. We went when the weather was nice and sat outside to eat. The service is all counter service, but pretty quick. There were at least a 3-4 people in line in front of us, plus several others who already ordered and we're waiting on food, plus the drive through, and we still got our food in 10ish minutes after ordering. So not bad. The menu is pretty much just tacos, nachos, or potatoes topped with your choice of meat (Trompo, Bistek, or mixed), and beans as a side. Naturally, we tried it all with mixed meats on everything. It was all so good, but the tacos are what I'll be going back for. Plenty of places around SA advertise street tacos, but this is one of the few places I've tried that have actually mastered them. And they're so simple and straightforward.. corn tortilla, meat, limes (and onions and cilantro if that's your thing). The salsa (green and red) were also really good and tasted homemade. We each got a drink - agua de horchata and agua de Jamaica. Both delicious and refreshing, perfect accompaniment to the food. The only thing I wasn't crazy about was the side of beans, but my husband thought they were delicious.. so do with that what you will. We requested charro beans, but were informed they were out. We also asked for arroz con leche and they were out of that as well. We grabbed our food and went home.
