After many months of ordering takeout from here, we finally made a reservation and came in for dinner. The restaurant has a cosy, romantic ambiance and is perfect for a date night. It was my boyfriend's birthday, and our server was super friendly and went above and beyond to make his day extra special. We ordered a margherita pizza, shishito peppers, and the octopus - all delicious. Octopus was a little chewy, but still tasty! The blackberry and peach dessert was the perfect way to end the meal. Been here twice now, and I love the casual upscale atmosphere and surprisingly spacious indoor seating. Food was good- I've tried their trout, honey comb pasta, chopped salad, and Burrata app, kinda forgot what else. Wouldn't really recommend the Burrata unless you like beets, a friend and I was expecting tomato in the darker lighting, and was unpleasantly surprised by that! Everything else spot on. We love Marzano and visited again last night. They squeezed us in for an early dinner and we sat outside in their comfy parklet. Really appreciated the heaters and nice blankets provided too. We thoroughly enjoyed the arancini and burrata starters and preferred the artichoke pizza over the Cabrera chili pizza (the sausage was a bit chewy) and the toppings a bit plain. COVID 19 REVIEW Came here for dinner on a nice evening. We were not seated in the parklet on a side street, but in a table on the sidewalk on Park Blvd. There were a number of such table lined up against the wall of the restaurant on the sidewalk facing Park Blvd. I don't recall any heat torches, but that might be because it was a nice enough night that we didn't really feel the need for that help. We happened to be seated right at the entrance of the restaurant at the corner of the side street and Park Blvd. We had a lot of cars pull up to the corner and the drivers jumped out to pick up delivery orders. Not as annoying as it might seem, but I wouldn't ask for this table again if possible. Food was very good. Yelp continues to frustrate with it's inconsistent policy with new owners (and even a restaurant (Growler's Arms) in between the change) and have combined the old Marzano reviews with the new. Not one of the better Italian meals I've had recently. I'm surprised this place has such good reviews, especially with markedly better options within a few miles. We had the arugula salad, sausage pizza, and baked rigatoni. The salad was the highlight, which is probably not a good thing for this type of restaurant. The toppings on the pizza were fine, but the crust was extremely lacking and tasted like what you'd find at a suburban strip mall family pizza joint (which certainly has its own charms, but isn't what you're looking for from something for this price). Too thick and one note, with none of the flavor and chewiness of better crusts. The rigatoni was worse - the whole dish was very watery, yet somehow not saucy. The pasta tasted like they just boiled some dry pasta from the grocery store and threw it in, it barely seemed baked. There was very little cheesiness to the dish. The interior is nice and service was good, but you can do a lot better in the area. read more

Marzano is small little Italian restaurant that has more of a bar vibe. They only open in the evenings (5/5:30 pm usually). As a huge pasta lover, I was slightly disappointed by the lack of pasta choices, but I feel like there is less and less pasta choices now. Overall, the ambience and service was good. read more

Been here a few times over last few months. Love the area, great seeing people out and dining, even better with no masks. The pizza is underwhelming, similar to a Trader Joe's frozen one. The chicken arrabbiata is what this place is known for though, and it was disappointing. There were small pieces of bones and it almost seemed like just gristle and leftover pieces of thighs thrown in. The spices were on point however. The food was just okay (my appetizer was the octopus and potatoes that was undercooked - so I couldn't finish it; my entree was a perfectly cooked steak - but it came out cold; my dessert was a tasty Pot de crème which was spicy and bursting with citrus zest - but a little watery). My specific server was incredibly kind ... but ... simply all-over-the-place ... and had dirty hands with cruddy fingernails that I could not overlook. We were craving pizza and wanted to try delivery from a place we've never tried... With the reviews, we were excited, but after eating it, we're both pretty bummed we paid $40+ for 2 pizzas that weren't good. The crust was so thin for the spicy sausage, that the pizza was falling apart. The sausage itself was such and odd, rubbery texture and so was the dough. The crust on the outside was practically burnt and pretty hard. The red peppers were very slimy as well. The cheese on the pancetta and arugula pizza was super hard and stiff (maybe a downside to delivery? But the rest of the pizza was hot!). Definitely super bummed about this pizza. Wow - things changed here. Wife and I brought friend here on a Friday night. Food Portions seemed smaller (octopus had way too many potatoes and olives) than 18 months ago. Margherita pizza oozed watery sauce and crust was thinner than I remembered. Meatballs were enjoyed by the senior crowd... Service Wait staffed asked us 3 times if they could clear our plates. We asked for a cold glass to split one of our beers so a light drinker could sample our beers - the wait staff brought us a warm glass straight from the dishwasher (ugh to warm beer). Marzano purports itself to be a higher-end Italian bistro-bar. There's around 10 tables and booths for indoor seating, and a large bar dominating the center of an overall narrow and pretty cramped restaurant. I didn't appreciate the feeling I had in the restaurant - it felt like I was always two feet from the door. The food is overpriced (expected) but completely unremarkable and pedestrian. You expect food at this level to make some sort of statement and exhibit at least a little bit of character. Marzano's flavors are more in line with mass appeal and being as inoffensive as possible. The one positive was the service. My server was very attentive as well as our busboy, but at times it was a bit aggressive and move-ya-through. Still, our server adeptly took the cues of when to check on us and when to back off. Sadly, that's rare these days. Not especially great food, and a poor value. More of a place to go with neighbors or coworkers and pretend the food is better than it is. I did appreciate the above-average service. This place is just around the corner from us but I feel no desire to return or make it a regular destination. read more

Not sure why so many of the menu items are spicy, lol, so if you like spicy foods, this is the place for you. nothing against it, I'm just not super good with tolerating spice. However, this pizza was delicious. I'm also lactose intolerant so this had just the right amount of cheese! Pappardelle with green pea brodo: Meh. Tasted pretty plain. The sauce didn't coat the noodles well and was mostly chunky (bits of asparagus, peas). I couldn't taste the sauce's flavor very much. Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp: DELICIOUS! It was warm, crispy, and perfectly tart! Panna Cotta: Not a fan. Weird, jello-like/gelatinous texture. Just tasted like milk in jello form? Moved to Oakland and this was our first meal in our new home! Our nearby DoorDash options are a bit sparse so I was happy to see Marzano as an option. We got pepperoni pizza, arugula salad and a baked pasta dish. Everything was delicious and it felt like a special occasion meal for sure! I went to Marzano on a freezing cold and dreary night in Jan 2023. I was craving a proper Hot Toddy cocktail and, WOW, did the bartender deliver. It was hot and plentiful ;) Delish! I did not know they have a full bar in addition to beer and wine. Now I do. After I was warm, cozy, and relaxed I ordered the always-outstanding-meatballs and brussels sprouts w/shallots. For dessert I just HAD to try the chili-infused chocolate pot de creme with fresh cream and hazelnuts. It was very Italian with a Cali kick! Loved, loved, loved it. We like sitting outdoors and usually bring our small pooch, but the indoors has great atmosphere, and we like it in there, too. But it's the food and cocktails that have sustained our loyalty. One the best meals I've had in Oakland after 43 years. Huge fan of Italian Colors mainly cause of atmosphere and a few key menu items but everything at Marzano bore us away. The octopus , the rigatoni, pizza, salads, all good. And the atmosphere is great. Glenview maybe the most underrated neighborhood in Oakland ...its basically Piedmont but more walkable. Get a decent sushi spot, Mexican spot and a hardware store like it used to have (along with radio shack) and it will he complete. Can't wait to go back and try more stuff. read more

This pizza is in "the best of the best" category. I can speak specifically to the pepperoni pizza and the grilled artichoke pizza. Both of these pizzas are perfection and I do not exaggerate when it comes to pizza. The ingredients are delicious, there is a generous amount of everything (sauce, cheese and toppings) and the crust is as good as it gets. When it comes to franchise delivery pizza company crusts, I usually don't eat the bones, but with crusts like this one, I garlic up some butter, spread it on the crust and indulge.
