The food is really good. I do grab-and-go, on my way to somewhere, but there are a couple of outdoor tables too. Menu varies. Last night I had their mushroom stroganoff with broccoli and mashed potatoes. Delicious! They make good sandwiches and salads too; their tuna salad is the best I've ever had. Seriously. It has capers in it! Located in Rocky's Market, a neighborhood gem run by the nicest people you can imagine. I live half a mile away, and stop in at least 3 times a week. read more

Two Local Girls sell their prepared food at Rocky's Market from the refrigerated section in the back. I discovered them last summer when I stopped by Rocky's to pick up some Bee Grateful honey caramels, which I had bought by mail from the farm in Colorado but had run out. I had bookmarked Rocky's for that reason because postage was so high for the shipping, then I learned that if I bought a certain amount I could get free shipping, but I had run out of the last batch I had ordered. I was delighted to see they had Caesar salads, as I have been on a hunt for aa good Caesar since Pollara Pizzeria closed in Berkeley. Theirs was the best, but Two Local Girls' cam close. I also bought a tuna sandwich and a caprese salad. Yesterday I stopped in at Rocky's again. I headed straight for the cold cases and picked up two Caesars and a mushroom and spring pea risotto. I will have one of the salads tonight, along w/ the risotto. I looked on the risotto package for cooking directions and didn't see any. When I just checked their website I didn't see cooking instructions either, which is a strange oversight. I will check again on the package, but in the meantime I have sent them a message on their website. If I don't hear from them by dinnertime I will wing it. I see they do catering, which we may want when we hold Alan's memorial service, so asked them about that. I love that their packaging is all compostable. Later: I didn't hear back from them, not surprising on a Sunday night, and there were no instructions on the package, so I heated the oven to 350°, w/ the risotto in its compostable container, minus the lid, in the oven as it warmed, covered w/ aluminum foil. When it reached 350° I set the time for 15 minutes, then stirred it to test the temperature and gave it another 5 minutes. It was hot enough at that point so I emptied it onto a plate and had it along w/ one of the Caesar salads. It was very good. I would buy it again. The salad was wonderful, w/ a strong anchovy flavor to the dressing. It's the closest to Pollara's salad and the best of the ones I have tried since they closed. I'm thinking it might be worth the trip over to buy more when I'm in the mood for a Caesar. Still later: Corinne did get back to me by email and confirmed that I did the right thing w/ the risotto, which pleased me greatly! She's a co-owner of Rocky's as well as Two Local Girls. The spot is a hidden gem. It's inside a neighborhood market. I didn't want to go to Noah's Bagels & Starbucks. So I yelped for the closest Lox Bagel... and I realized I've been meaning to go here! So I finally went here to get breakfast before running errands on 7/30/19 around 10:30am. From the moment I entered, I was greeted by every worker I encountered on my way to the back. Not only is everyone so friendly. The market is so clean and organized. You don't feel overwhelmed walking in and looking around. In the back, you have the cafe area with seating and ample room. This may be a great place to get some work done quietly. Although, I've just let the cat out of the bag on that Once I took in my options from the cute display order, I rang the service bell. I ordered two Deluxe Lox Bagels and a Chai Tea with Almond Milk. My food and drink was prepared in a timely manner. Just enough time for me look at their refrigerated section... and... OH MAN! I want to come back from lunch. Their salads look so fresh! There sandwiches are huge! Options are great for the price! Definite coming back to try more take and go meals! This review would be 5 stars if I had only had the sandwich I came to TLG for. But, I decided to purchase the take-n-bake veggie pot pie and thus, this review has dropped to 3 (2.5, even) stars. Let's start with the sandwich: it was delicious! I ordered the custom grilled cheese which basically ended up being a fancy pesto chicken sammie. I got havarti cheese, country chicken, pesto, tomatoes and avocado on ciabatta bread. The only thing I will say is that the country chicken comes as a sort of chicken salad, with cranberries, celery and chicken cubes in a creamy sauce. It didn't bother me much but I could see someone being very opposed to this if they just thought country chicken meant rotisserie or baked chicken (like I did). Now the pot pie. Sigh. I got it for my fiancé but I ended up just eating it as he doesn't do anything overly creamy. That was not my issue. The packaging is very simple; the only instruction is '375' for 35 minutes'. But if you want the puff pastry to, in fact, puff, you need to remove the top and bake it separately. The taste was decent but there were SO MANY PEAS. I know that's a normal staple in pot pies but sheesh!! If you like peas, then this pot pie is for you:) All that aside, it's a cute place hidden in a market so you can peruse while you wait for your food. Placed an order with them 60 minutes in advance for a small business meeting which required 5 sandos. First time trying it out on fellow business buds. A little bit risky, but, hey that's what makes life fun. 1 Vegetarian, 2 BLTs, and 2 Turkey Cranberry. All came on a requested Chiabatta roll. Neatly nestled in a small brown fold together box. All were appropriately labeled. The total price for the order was very reasonable. Every one at our meeting enjoyed their sandwiches, and were pleased with their order. Tasty and fresh, with very nicely appointed mixed greens and cheese (as requested). The order was done very professionally and was available at the requested pick-up time. Please look no further for your catering needs. I called the market hall to ask them for their catering services and they were not customer friendly at all. All I kept hearing was to check their website and decide. It was cold!!! On the contrary, the experience with Two Local Girls at Rocky's market, was absolutely delightful. They were warm friendly and were very good about giving recommendations and suggestions based on party size and the event. This is what I needed as opposed to the cold "check our website" treatment I got from market Hall. As for the food, every single dish was amazing. The turkey Cran sandwiches were scrumptious and they had so many wonderful options. Everyone at the event kept asking me where I had the food catered from. Good neighborhood place inside Rocky's market. Easy parking, decent coffee and an assortment of breakfast items - larger on weekends. Plus, there's the whole market to choose from, so you can add whatever you like at grocery rates. I often meet a friend in Montclair for breakfast and it's always problematic parking and often involves a line. This was fine, and much easier. read more

But for now, I'm sticking with TLG, because I'm lazy ;-) What can I say that hasn't been said? Not much... but I can not say enough good things about the baby back ribs and kale Cesar salad (and I don't even like kale!). They smoke their ribs right there on the premises and they are sooooo gooood, with a little heat to them, just fantastic. The kale salad has a lot of parmesan in it (maybe that's why I liked it so much). I will definitely be back for the sandwiches, which looked divine. Don't make the mistake of going here expecting to have breakfast or brunch. Even though their yelp website says that they serve breakfast and brunch, they do not. They stopped serving brunch and breakfast over two years ago and still have not updated their yelp. Wasted my time driving out there to get a bagel and all they had was some prepared food in a refrigerator. No counter service whatsoever. All the food was lunch or dinner premade meals nothing for breakfast or brunch. Food was fine but they need to make an effort to update what yelp says so people don't waste their time. read more

Tasty sandwiches that use fresh ingredients. This is definitely going to be my go to whenever I want to pack a picnic or pickup something simple/easy but still interesting. So far I've gotten the curried chicken salad sandwich and the salami + goat cheese sandwich. They had a lot of variations of the same sandwiches and sides premade and ready for pickup. Nice place! Came on Easter morning. Breakfast is mainly bagels and sammies. No potatoes though . That being said, they are really good. I had their breakfast special bagel. I have high hopes for these two now that they're taking over ownership of Rocky's market. Although Rocky's has come a long way since the previous owners it needs some increased energy. No doubt a tough business but I've seen some incredible, vibrant specialized small neighborhood markets in DC, New Orleans, and even small town Connecticut. Understanding the neighborhood needs, making a truly unique experience, and adding convenience is key. Right now it's a little lackluster, laid back, and not that customer driven. As for the current Two Local Girls the quality is excellent. Admittedly the choice is limited and the cost on the high side, but you get what you pay for. I've had two sandwichs from here on separate occasions and both were exceptional. All the ingredients were fresh and well proportioned. The bread was a perfect accompaniment. They know how to make a good sandwich. One morning I stopped by for a coffee (latte) and they didn't seem open, but a woman came out and gladly made the latte with a smile and a nice send off, commenting that she hoped it started off my day well. This is what good service is all about. The prepared items look tasty and I look forward to trying some soon. If by taking over Rocky's ramps it up some I'd gladly shop here regardless of higher cost, as I expect many in the neighborhood will too. read more

We got to TLG at 3 PM and were disappointed to discover that they stop serving hot food at 2 PM. We were able to grab a cold sammie (chicken curry) and a broccoli salad from the fridge and eat at one of the two outdoor tables (they also have a bunch of tables inside). The curry chicken ($9.50) didn't really have a lot of taste to it and the croissant was somewhat soggy from being in the (compostable, yay!) container. All in all, it didn't taste any different than eating a generic chicken salad sandwich from any old deli. The broccoli salad ($3.99/lb) had a nice tartness to it, but at the end of the day, it was like eating just-cooked broccoli heads mixed with some red onion/peppers in a buttermilk ranch-like dressing. TLG is tucked away in the back of Rocky's Market, so the signage from the street is non-existent. There is a parking lot on the side and plenty of metered parking in front. I'd like to come back and try their bagel breakfasts, but since TLG isn't the most convenient place to get to, it will have to wait until the next time we're up in the Hills. read more

I'm in the process of moving and have been eating pretty badly did a quick search and this place came up. I got a small Kale salad and Chicken Pot pie and I'm completely satisfied and happy. Amazing local coffee / sandwich shop in a market. I arrived and they were giving out free coffee today so I indulged. Amazing iced latte (not that it's hard to go wrong) and I almost feel like going back and getting another. Definitely tomorrow! I also had a ham sammy which is insane. All very nice, yummy flavors. Generous portions, great prices and fresh, local organic ingredients. I highly recommend the tuna sammie and egg salad sammie. Actually, I recommend it all...the roast beef, avocado toast with speck, Zoe's herb chicken breast, the breakfast sammy, Beauty's Bagels...you will thank me(you're welcome). I try not to write negative reviews unless something was exceptionally bad, and unfortunately, that was my experience here. We came in a couple of Sundays ago in the morning. There was only one person working the counter, and she seemed very overwhelmed. She kept telling everyone that she was the only one there and they should expect to wait a while. When she finally worked on our order, there were two big problems: 1) my husband's sandwich was supposed to come with crispy bacon bits and on a croissant. Instead it came with flabby bacon strips and on brioche 2) my avocado toast had a bum avocado on it - brown all over. I asked her to remake the avocado toast - it was slightly better, still with brown spots all over. She admitted to me when everything calmed down that she needed to grab new avocados because those were so bad. One thing that did not seem specific to the moment is that their toasts were super disappointing. They clearly use regular sliced bread from a bag - nothing I couldn't have made at home. I gave them two stars because their latte was pretty good, but otherwise it was pretty disappointing. read more

This is a little gem, hidden inside the new and improved Rocky's grocery store. It has now become my go to place every day for coffee. This is owned and run by great people, very friendly and they get to know you and what you like very quickly. They have big plans and sounds like both the coffee shop and the grocery store are only going to get better. For those espresso-based coffee snobs (I am not afraid to admit that I am one), you will get your drink made the way it was intended to be, unlike the big brand coffee stores who never quite get it right. The food is fantastic, I love their cold sandwiches and they do the best hot Breakfast Sammy (sandwich) I have ever had... been having way too many of them :) If you are a local to the area, get in there... meet the team and sample everything they have to offer. I dropped by to pick up coffee and was lured in by a salad with cacao salami and watermelon radishes! Their menu changes week-to-week, but their lunch staples are meat and veggie sandwiches, salads (this week is herbed turkey, house made curry chicken, and smoked trout), and hot paninis. Just came here for breakfast and my boyfriend and I can honestly say we've found our new favorite spot this side of the Bay. I had their avocado toast, sea salt and lemon make it that more amazing. My boyfriend had the lox bagel, full of salmon and oozing with cream cheese. 2 Lattes with Highwire roaster coffee, one of our favorites. And because we loved our toast so much, we went back in to get the brie and apple panini, warm and gooey. All in all a perfect Sunday and it's great to have Two Local Girls in the neighborhood. This review is for the coffee and seating area. I love this place. They brew some really good coffee for an affordable price ($2.25 for a small). The quality is right up there with other high end coffee shops but the atmosphere is much more casual and friendly. They have a nice indoor and outdoor seating area at Rocky's market plus games and activities for kids if you bring them with. Compostable cups are a nice plus, too. Great place! read more

Also they were closed when we arrived at 3:30pm on a Saturday even though everything we could find online implied that they would be open. 4 Stars because we thought we were going to a deli/restaurant so we were thrown, a little disappointed. And then we bit into our sandwiches and it was nothing but delight. The sandwiches are in the back of the grocery store and they also have bagels and salad, everything is pre-prepared. Even the chip prices were good, sandwich prices were excellent. I really want this place to work - really, really, but if they don't jump on the customer service band wagon, they'll never make it. There are too many choices for Oaklanders to choose from; you need to make people feel welcome, that you're glad they are there. I am specifically talking about the food counter. I've been there at least 3 times to grab a bite and each time, the order was either wrong, or put together without thought. Remember, there's Farmer Joe's with a huge less expensive organic produce section, and there are plenty of prepared food places to go to where prices are lower and services is so-so. For someone eating there, give them a plate - not a box For someone eating a bagel - remember the order - if you can't, write it down - cut the bagel in half (or at least ask - it's easier to eat that way) For the eat-ion section, make sure napkins are readily available. I was looking for something quick and healthy. Depending on your dietary needs, Two Local Girls provides a few options for a quick lunch or breakfast. The food is prepared there and was yummy. There were fewer options than I expected or wanted but it's a good stop for coffee or a bite. It's within a market which has lots of healthy foods and goods. It's a cute local market. I wouldn't go out of my way to go back probably but if I was in the area it's a pleasant place to stop by. read more
