Went here to buy a post-lumpectomy garment as it's the only place in town where I could try on before buying. The person who helped me was the front desk clerk, not an experienced fitter. She didn't measure me, which I expected after other bra purchasing experiences where that's the first thing the fitter does. She just asked me what size I wore, but I was unsure because I've lost weight recently, so she brought in a couple sizes for me to try on. I asked her to find a tape measure and measure me for the band width to make sure I got the correct size. She seemed very inexperienced, uncaring and blasé about the whole process. After I tried on the garments I told her which one I chose. She took it, wordlessly left the dressing room and returned to the front desk. When I returned to the front desk she said the store would file a claim with my insurance, but I had to pay up front and hope for reimbursement from my insurance company. The whole experience was cold and impersonal at a time when I and others with my diagnosis are anxious, scared and in need of some compassion. When I returned home, I searched online for the garment I purchased and discovered that Marzel's charged 50% more than the online price. I'm sorry I patronized this place. read more

I had two experiences with this retailer. The first was when I went there to get some camisoles. First off, pay upfront. I was "fitted" by their specialist. I bought 3 costly camisoles. After trying one on at home, I discovered it was too large. The "fitter" made an error in measuring. I called right away wanting to return the two unopened packages for the correct size. I was told they considered the camisole "a medical device" (what!) and would not allow the exchange. Since it was their error, I feel they should stand behind their product. I was able to purchase the same item on Amazon for a fraction of the price I paid Marzel's. At least they billed my insurance correctly and I was reimbursed for the useless products. The second time I purchased bilateral breast prostheses and bras totaling $1074. Again, I was fitted by their expert. The bras, costing $70 each, sit in my dresser drawer. They do not fit. Again, Amazon purchase for a fraction of their price & the fit is right. The biggest problem was getting my money back once the insurance company paid them. My credit card was billed at the time of purchase. After five months of numerous phone calls by my insurance carrier and me requesting my refund for double payment, I finally got my money. I think it took my call stating " demand for payment " that did it. I was ready to take them to court. I am my own advocate. If I hadn't been so persistent, I don't think I would have seen a refund. I can only think of those patients caught up in treatment, etc, letting this slip through the cracks. In the future, I will go elsewhere. If you deal with this company, be vigilant. read more

This is a complicated review for me to write. On one hand, Georgette and Jennifer are terrific fitters in both the Walnut Creek and Pleasanton locations; however, their filing of Medicare insurance claims leaves much to be desired. I purchased $640 work of compression wraps in March 2024 and paid in advance. Over six months have passed and Medicare informed me that they have yet to receive my claim from Marzel's. Marzel's refuses to submit or resubmit my claim or return my calls leaving me no alternative but to file my own claim (very unusual) which I expect to take at least a year or two through Medicare's five-layer review process. read more

Went with a friend who just had a mastectomy. The environment was warm and friendly and very comfortable seating. It's cozy and not at all like a typical store yet they have an array of bras and other garments for post mastectomy women. . The windows are not viewable so no one knows your business. It's quiet and by appointment only so no one is milling around. Their services are free. Plus there's ample parking in a lot right at the establishment. They allowed me to enter the fitting room with my friend. Again very comfortable and inviting room. Everyone was warm and accommodating. We were lucky to be serviced by the owner. While my friend was trying on bras I got to talk with her. She's been in the business for over 30 years , she's retirement age yet continues to do it because she loves helping people. Very upbeat and easy to gab with. She was very positive and as I stated so accommodating wanting to know life style as to exercise, social , etc. so as best to find the right type of bras and prosthesis. We were told about different prosthesis, types of bras including fabric, the most popular and appropriate sizes for my friend's body type. Measurements were taken, and as I stated ....reasons for different bras, etc, etc. many types , sizes and patience were all involved in finding the correct fit. This lady had the patience of a saint with a fun positive slant on the total experience which was almost an hour and one half. Also a little paperwork , not much, so insurance would pay for it all. I'd say is was a really good experience for my friend and for me too. My friend asked me to write a review because she's not in the best frame of mind right now and thought I'd do better with it. Personally for myself I hopefully will never need the service, yet it's good to know I'd at least be taken care of in a positive, relaxed setting with no stress and good advice. read more

I've found the ladies at Marzels extremely straightforward with pricing and have had no issues with billing whatsoever, I do usually have to pay over what insurance is willing to cover but the products are good and they've shown me the entire spectrum of what my insurance will cover and what the difference will be if I go over. Jessica in scheduling has been extremely kind and great to work with. Overall I'm grateful they've been able to work with me quality items that fit my needs, but to be fair there really isn't many other options and getting ahold of them can be tricky. Be sure to get appointments before coming in, walk ins are not welcomed. read more

Worst customer service ever, not once but twice . I went to this business last year after having a mastectomy for breast cancer and needed a prosthesis. The person fitting me was very cold and unprofessional. I ended up spending over $500 out of my own pocket as I did not want to wait months for my insurance to approve the prosthesis and bras. While I was there I was also interested in looking at an arm compression sleeve for Lymphadema. I was told it cost $75 Just to take my measurements because I wanted to maybe order the arm sleeve and gauntlet from Amazon rather than purchasing these 2 item's from Marcel's since I had just spent way more than I was expecting the prosthesis and bras to cost. Needless to say I decided to not spend the additional $75 for my arm measurements. I thought maybe since I had just spent $500 they might as a courtesy take the arm measurements for no cost. No such luck. Fast forward 9 months later, I paid another visit to Marvels. I had an appointment for a fitting for the arm compression sleeve. When I arrived the fitter asked me for my prescription. I was told without it they couldn't dispense anything. I did not have a prescription from my MD but a document from my physical therapist which I handed to the fitter. She proceeded to make a copy of the document and handed me back the original. I asked her if my document was sufficient and she snidely remarked "yes". I was then taken to a room for the dimensions to be taken. The fitter came back with just 1 choice of sleeves to choose from. No color or design choices. When I mentioned that I might be interested in one that looked more like a tattoo sleeve rather than a very plain simple one I was told that those ones take 2 weeks to get and they only place orders once per week on Saturdays. I wanted to try the plain one on for sizing purposes to make sure it fits before I spent over $200 for the fancy designed ones. The fitter told me that I had to pay for the plain one before I could try it on. Mind you the plain one was $95 plus $35 for the hand gauntlet. Apparently they have no samples for patients to try on due to Covid and I had to buy one before I could try it on because they could not resell it to another patient if it had touched my arm. Covid restrictions have been lifted so this is a bunch of BS that there are no samples and a patient is forced to buy a product in order to try it on and there are no refunds in case it doesn't fit or if I don't like the design. I had just spent 3 weeks prior to this fitting appointment going to physical therapy and having my arm wrapped due to a bad case of Lymphadema and to be treated so terribly by my fitter. She obviously has no empathy and compassion for folks who have gone through chemo, radiation and numerous surgeries for breast cancer to be treated like a second class citizen. The owner of this location is only out to make money by having such strict policies when I could go anywhere else and make a purchase and if the item did not fit or for some reason I was not happy with my purchase any other store would offer a full refund, no questions asked. We are 3 years into Covid and all restrictions are now lifted so to mandate that I patient still has to pay for an item first before even getting to try it on is ludicrous. Shame on you Marzels!! Very disappointed in customer service. I went to see if any of my garments were in. I had not heard from them in 3 weeks, the garments were estimated to come in 2 weeks. I pop in today, a girl behind the counter is looking for my items. Another woman who did my measurements asks what she's looking for. The woman who did my measurements said she was going to call me. Then I say can I try it on my arm to make sure you think it's the right size. She says well I have a patient/customer and was blowing me off. Her patient/customer was sitting in the chair listening to the entire conversation. I say, well I did spend $2000.00 dollars on all of these garments, I think it's fair you let me know if they fit correctly. Still the woman working there was just like sorry don't have time. Then the kind customer waiting said I don't mind if you need to see if the garment fits, I can wait. So the worker begrudgingly looked at it as I put it on my arm. Super rude! I don't recommend this store. There are others that might have kinder customer service. read more

This place gets a 2 stars for me, they are nice and courteous but fishy with their billing. Took my wife there since her regular place closed down for a breast prosthesis and bras. When about to leave the want all payment upfront and said they will do the billing with the insurance, this alerted me as we have been to many places and this is first one that asked for money upfront. Needless to say whoever does the billing thru insurance may need more credibility as. Did not get much money back for the items. Watch this place because when I called Medicare they have this place non-eligible because of some fraud.. Regardless to say I went to another place that don't have insurance fraud and didn't have to pay a dime. Watch this place, will never go back. They claim their process is better but I don't think so, it's better for them not the customer. read more

I love this place! My 18 month old daughter needed a customized compression garment. We needed very specific measurements and dealing with a toddler can be a little tricky. Thankfully Georgette and her daughter are miracle workers. They handled measuring my daughter with ease. Georgette also went above and beyond; she spoke to the manufacturer of the garment and my daughters occupation therapist to ensure we were all on the same page. These customized garments are not cheap. My daughter needs hers to improve her quality of life. I would not trust this experience to anyone else. Thank you so much to the staff at Marzels! read more

I brought my wife here after her mastectomy for a prosthesis and some bras. We had purchased the same items at a place near Washington hospital in Fremont so I was familiar with the insurance process and our coverage. We were told that it didn't matter how much our insurance company was going to cover, we had to pay 100 percent of the bill upfront. I asked if we could just wait for an "explanation of benefits" letter because then we both would be 100 percent sure on what we owe. Marzel's said no but they assured us that we would be refunded whatever we are owed after the insurance pays their portion. Long story short, Marzel's made up a story that said we signed a document that said we give up any overpayment money. Who would ever sign something like that!? I went to an attorney, he wrote them a "letter of demand" for the money money owed and a copy of the document that said we give away any money owed to us. Marzel's sent a copy of a letter that said nothing of the sort and refused to refund us the overpayment money. Our attorney said to take them to small claims court because our case is a "slam dunk". After all of this, my wife was tired of the whole thing and told me to let them have the money so l never got to take these thieves to court. It's a shame that they run their business like this. Stealing from cancer patients that have had the horrible experience of having a breast removed makes them one of the lowest human beings I've ever encountered in my 59 years of living. This website says this business is "unclaimed", nevertheless, I hope you're reading this Marzels. I know you remember this case because of the attorney's letter that you received. My wife says to leave it in God's hands. That his punishment is way more than we could ever do to Marzels. read more

Agree with William S. I was forced to pay upfront and was charged more than medicare allows even though I requested products that would be covered by medicare. For over 20 years I had gone to another vendor and never paid, never saw a bill. From Marzels the entire cost was put on my credit card and I received only partial reimbursement after my insurance company paid Marzel. It took me over a month to receive that partial payment. After a 6 month struggle with my insurance, I did receive the remainder. Marzel overcharges and does not honor the medicare guidelines. I received products that are inferior to the vendor I went to previously where there were no problems with having to pay anything. read more

I went to Marzels because I was going to lose my hair during chemotherapy and I heard their wigs were the best. The person who helped me really wasn't very good at helping with finding the right wig for me. I ended up spending $400 on a synthetic wig that is truly no better than the $25 ones I found on Amazon after. I hate the wig I ended up with and have no way of getting a refund. read more

I've had Lymphadema for over 10 years and have dealt with many suppliers. I had to drive over 30 minutes to get to the Walnut Creek location and was referred by my insurance. Once I got my first garment, a second one was ordered. After a month, it never came. When I called Marzel's they said it was showing that it was delivered. Their tone was that of someone accusing me of not being truthful. I got a call back and they told me Fedex said the package was undeliverable! I live in a building with 6 people that are ALWAYS home due to the pandemic. The manufacturer then proceeded to send it to Marzel's. Marzel's was unwilling to PAY for it to be shipped to me because they said I wasn't available to receive the first package!! I paid $10 to have it shipped. The postage was actually $5 on the package. I told them outright I'll never be back. I plan on filing a formal complaint with Kaiser. This supplier should not be in business. This is no way to treat cancer patients!! I've been going to Marzel's for 5 years after being referred by my Kaiser Lymphedema team. The Pleasanton office is pretty and private. Jennifer is an excellent fitter for stockings and lymphedema garments. She is knowledgeable, professional, and keeps current on what is being offered in our community. She encourages me and laughs with me, which I need sometimes. Her gentleness keeps things from ever getting awkward. We are lucky to have this place. Very nice ladys that work in the shop, private and professional. I am a young woman going through Chemo. They do not have a very big wig selection for anyone under the age of 60. I was able to try on 1 wig that sort of matched my hair. It's really too bad. Good for the older generation but not the younger. read more

I went to the store in Pleasanton on Stoneridge Drive. I actually made the appointment to look at a wig while I was undergoing my first round of chemotherapy and knew that I'd be losing my hair. I was treated like royalty from the moment I entered the store. I found a style that I loved and Jennifer ordered 3 different colors for me to try. I found some darling scarves to wear, when I wouldn't be wearing the wig. Jennifer was an expert and found colors that closely matched my original hair color and looked like real hair. I learned how to put it on and off, how to wash it and keep it looking like new. Jennifer's patience, expertise, and amazing resources made me feel like a real and whole person when I left the store. I'm grateful for her care, kindness, and resources. My friends tell me that only my close friends will know it's not my real hair. I'm so grateful. read more

Have been using Marzel's, specifically Georgette, since developing lymphedema following surgery for breast cancer. I cannot recommend them highly enough. They are professional, courteous, compassionate and very knowledgeable. As a healthcare professional myself, I really appreciate the care I have received via Marzel's. There is an 11/17 post claiming insurance problems. I am fortunate to have my insurance pay 100% of the costs. However, as that is variable, it seems quite reasonable to me that they would ask for up-front payment, then reimburse for the coverage amount. read more
