My friend got the hot and sour chaoshou which was also really good. The dumpling skin was chewy and they were packed with filling. It's also nice that you can customize the oil level in your broth. We ordered the pig ears as an appetizer too. I loved the crunchy texture but the flavor was a bit underwhelming. The initial taste was mostly chili oil and then the flavor kind of disappeared. They have a lot of other great appetizers on the menu so I'd probably skip this one next time. If you're looking for a relaxed spot with consistently good noodles Mian is definitely worth checking out!!

I order the medium spice bone broth every time, but they also have Tomato based broth as an option, which my friends really enjoy. Service is good, from order to serving, it comes out pretty fast. A downside is the quality/cleanliness of the ingredients at times. Occasionally, some ingredients that sit in water get murky (ex. Tofu) and the vegetables get wilted or start to discolor. It's the least of my worries as I continued to return and am satisfied with the taste of the food! What really lowers the rating for this place aside from the subpar quality is the automatically implemented tip in the payment system. I've been going here for the past 2 years and have never been automatically charged for tip, but the last time I went, there wasn't even an option to change or decline the tip. I didn't have the time to question the cashiers when it happened, but based on others' reviews, it confirmed for me that they have recently implemented this system. It's extremely unfair and invalid to require tip without prior informing, and I only had a party of 2 which does not hit the gratuity requirement of 5+ guests. I believe you shouldn't be required to tip a certain amount, or any amount at all, if the service is bare minimum and quite literally their job. This is self serve so that's even less of a reason to force people to tip.

I think the food was a little bland but it was nice they provided seasoning on the table so we can adjust as needed to our preferences! We regularly flee Orange County and do a food travels to San Gabriel Valley for _actual_ Chinese food. Today was no different. For 6 months we watched my wife's childhood restaurant die, get gutted, and reincarnate as Ma's Kitchen. Today we drive by and BOOM -- it's open. Wife: "STOP THE CAR STOP THE CAR!!" Me: _slams brakes_ "Ma'am, this is a Honda." We walk in. Place is glow-up central. Mismatched tables -- some with tablecloths, some with glass tops like it can't decide if it's a banquet hall or your aunt's house. Wife clocks it immediately: "Mainland people cooking Cantonese." Suspicious, but okay. Then she orders. For what I assume is a family reunion. Food starts landing. And landing. And landing. I'm getting served like I'm at a dim sum boss fight. And it's... fire? Like, _actual_ Hong Kong fire. Wife's nodding, doing that happy-food hum, saying "tastes like HK." Me? I have no clue what authentic Cantonese is, but I know good when I inhale it. Six massive dishes later, the servers are cracking up watching my face every time another plate shows up. I'm mentally preparing for a $100 check. Bill comes: _Under $60_. My wallet did a double-take. Six dishes, I'm stuffed, we got leftovers, and the price felt like 2012. Service: fast. Food: banger. Price: criminally cheap. If you're in SGV and debating it, this is a 4-thumbs-up situation. I don't have 4 thumbs, but I'd borrow some. For my Mandarin peeps. I came across this Halal restaurant thanks to a friend's recommendation, and I must say it was a delightful find., Ambiance is warm and welcoming that set the stage for a memorable meal. The service here was truly exceptional. The staff are really friendly and attentive. made us feel like valued guests, the waiter kept checking on us to make sure everything is good. The food was simply amazing. The Xiaolongbao were a delicious start, just as my friend had promised. The Lamb Leg Polov was incredibly flavorful and tender, and the Fried Rice was a delightful surprise. The Big Plate chicken has a very very generous portion and everything taste 200/100!!! I recently had the unfortunate experience of dining at Ma's Kitchen, and I have to say, it was one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had. The staff was incredibly unprofessional, which set the tone for the entire visit. We waited far too long to even be acknowledged, and when we were finally seated, the service only got worse. The waitstaff seemed disorganized and uninterested in helping, and we had to repeatedly ask for basic things like water and napkins. The food took an absurd amount of time to arrive, and when it finally did, it was lukewarm and poorly presented. To make matters worse, there was no apology for the slow service or the poor quality of the meal. When a dish is too strong you need something bland to turn it down. That's my definition of a balance diet. The plan fried buns is slightly burned on the bottom but still juicy in the inside. It's comparable to or local Kang Kang restaurant.

I decided to finally visit and chose the Rowland Heights location since it's conveniently located next to a 99 Ranch, and I wanted to go grocery shopping after. Dolan's has received many accolades such as winning #63 on the L.A. Times 101 Best Restaurants in 2025 (#44 in 2024) and received an 8.0 rating from the Infatuation [2, 3]. If you're curious like me, the word "Dolan" refers to a people or region of what is now the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region (XUAR) and refers to an earlier culture and civilization in the region [4]. The restaurant is comfortable, not too many tables. Since I was eating dinner pretty late, there was only one other party finishing up their meal. The walls are decorated with plates, musical instruments, and trinkets that I'm assuming are associated with the Uyghur culture. A huge mural near the back features comically muscular men playing musical instruments with #GoogleUyghurs on the top right corner, referring to the oppression of Uyghur and other Turkic minorities in XUAR. The Simon-Skjodt Center for the Prevention of Genocide published its report "Eight Years On, China's Repression of the Uyghurs Remains Dire" in February 2025, and I thought it was a great resource that provides a thorough background on the matter [5]. I've also seen a few recommendations for the spiced blossom tea, but I didn't want an entire pot just for myself. Sadly, the Rowland Heights location doesn't have the Small Plate Chicken option that the other two locations offer, and I thought the Big Plate Chicken would be too much food. You can't go wrong with a rice dish, so I ended up ordering the: * Uyghur Polo ($19.95) The dish was absolutely delicious, probably the best thing I've eaten so far this year. The savory leg of lamb was fall-off-the-bone tender and paired perfectly with the sweetness from the soft carrots and onions. Not gamey at all. There was a sheen of oil on every rice kernel.
