Have come here since I was a kid whenever visiting SoCal. The food has always been amazing and tonight was no different. The Mongolian beef was juicy and fresh. The menu says it's spicy, I don't think it is so some chilli oil always helps the flavor. The sweet and sour chicken was the stickiness that makes you lick your fingers clean. The corn cream soup was comfort and warmth that would cure the deadliest case of man flu. There is no better green tea hot pot than here. How they make idk but all I know is the team should be canned and sold en mass. read more

I visited on New Year's Day 2025! They have a very small parking lot, but there are also free spots on the street. The menu is extensive. The "Chinese pizza" is very popular. I got the thicker sesame onion bread, but it's a lot for only two people. I recommend sharing this with a bigger group or plan to take leftovers home. They were out of the #38 lamb stew warm pot that night, so I opted for #36 lamb with pickled cabbage warm pot. This was very tasty (it's supposed to be kinda sour) and so good on a cold night. The #67 cumin lamb was very good. The #109 hand-pulled wide noodle with hot sauce was surprisingly good. The male server spoke both Mandarin Chinese and some English. I would come back! The Greater Los Angeles area has always had hidden pockets of Islamic Chinese restaurants waiting to be discovered. And after visiting a few of these restaurants around the area, I figured I'd expand my horizons and compare to other restaurants in the area. Particularly in Rosemead, I found China Islamic Restaurant with a sum of reviews on Yelp and decided to give them a try. Taking a look at their menu for to-go orders, they appeared to have many options ranging from warm pots to a variety of meat dishes. And for this order, I decided to go with an order of Mongolian Beef which was about $18 at the time of this review. Taking a look at the portion, the box was filled up to the top which was pleasant to see. And inside the dish were a medley of beef, green onions, and white onions. The dish was pretty balanced between the beef and onions which was better than expected and made the dish very enjoyable. China Islamic's Mongolian Beef is definitely on the more modest side with only a few kinds of ingredients inside. But because there were so much of each, I was full after eating the entire dish. For $18 in the San Gabriel Valley, this Mongolian Beef could be considered more pricey when compared to other restaurants in the area. But in all, the price to portion ratio was not bad to say the least. In singing the praises about the quantity, the flavors of the dish unfortunately left more to be desired. In all, the flavor profile of the dish was a mix between sour and savory because of the flavor of the sauce covering all of the ingredients. There were little hints of spice, but only on the surface due to the small pepper seeds speckled on the dish. As for the ingredients, I found the highlights of the dish to be just okay. The white onions were crunchy which were great from a texture standpoint; no problems with these. As for the green onions, I found them to absorb the moisture of the sauce which made them taste slimy in texture. Tasting the beef, each piece was both thin and chewy which made eating the meat more difficult than you would imagine. The meat was also more dry than I would have liked, only receiving moisture from the sauce on top. Rounding up the taste of the dish, the sauce covering the ingredients did not really blend well with the items inside which made the food taste somewhat conflicted. If you're looking to try an Islamic take on Chinese food, China Islamic could potentially be a spot to try. But with a slew of other dishes on their menu, I would be inclined to try another item the next time I drop by. The portion of the dish was pretty good for the 18 dollar price tag you would be paying in the Rosemead area. But with an unintegrated flavor profile and hiccups with the individual ingredients, I'd argue that the Mongolian Beef at China Islamic Restaurant sits at a mid-point 3 star rating. I'm sure there could be other dishes that hit the mark at China Islamic. And I'd definitely be happy to try these out on my next visit. Not bad, could be better! read more

I'm vegan and muslim and I love this place. The food, service and ambiance are all great.

What I come here for is the green onion pancake and the lamb pickled cabbage soup. This place does not have the visual flair but I'm always leaving with a happy belly. The green onion pancake in both the flat form and thick form are sooo good. Lots of green onion. Lots of sesame. The soup is a perfect sour and my daughter loves it. It was dead on a Friday night which I don't understand. Would hate to see this place go since it really has some of our delicious favorites we can't find elsewhere read more

I have heard about this place and finally got a chance to visit. Came in early on Sat right after it open. Lunch special is available to order. Green onion sesame pie is great. Not really sure if it is called the lamb stew. It is a soup with various lamb organs and meat. Very tasty. The down size is that not that much stuff overall, but still a good soup. This is the O.G. place to go for Chinese-Islamic food. The location is good and the staff is always friendly. We enjoyed the fatty beef and chives pie. There is plenty room in the lot and on the street to park. I believe the dishes taste authentic and yummy. read more

Right off the bat the restaurant was empty during lunch hour that should have been a first sign. We had questions about the menu, we ended up order the wrong item because we weren't sure. When we told the waiter we order the wrong item they said it was too late to change the order. The food was bland. Asked for more sauce for the beef the waiter said they didn't have anymore. The Kung Pao chicken was tolerable. Would recommend driving out to Orange County or Long Beach instead for halal Chinese food. There is a good restaurant in Long Beach called Nomads. read more

One of my favorite spots! The food here is so good -- super flavorful and always hits the spot. I usually get the beef noodle soup and scallion pancakes, and they never miss. I have always wanted to try this place and luckily found some friends who wants to try their lamb dishes also. Came here on a Saturday eve around 6:30p. Very thick and soft and super yummy. I can eat that thing all day all by itself but it's great to stuff it with meat and other veggies. Lamb Stew in warm pot - very large portions seems endless soup for 5 ppl. It's spicy but very manageable. Very savory with tofu, lamb chunks, and glass noodles. Egg plant with brown sauce - very savory but drenched in lots of oil so be warned. Sautéed Lamb with Green onions - again a spicy but not crazy. Very savory. I would give it 5 stars if it weren't for the slow service. Seems like there is only one waiter and one chef in the whole place so beware that service is slow. This is a cool place if you like the chinese style scallion pancakes/pizzas, they even have the "deep-dish" and thin (NY style)! Other than the pancakes, we ordered a few veggie dishes and a stir-fried lamb entree, all are so very delicious! Unlike some restaurants might have one sauce for all, each dish has its own authentic flavor, the portion is generous as well. We went back two weeks late and placed a very similar order, it was that good! Why the hell didn't anyone tell me about this place until I was nearly 40?! Cumin lamb and the flatbread already make this place irreplaceable. Then all the hot pots and broths are simply irresistible. The staff is friendly and attentive. The ambience varies from chill to busy busy cafeteria filled with people stuffing their faces. It can be very lively and crowded so try to come at the open if you're new and get overwhelmed. If you're not familiar with the cuisine, have a deep talk with the wait staff and they won't lead you astray. If you're not adventurous they offer all the classic Asian dishes Americans have come to view as Asian staples, as well. So your picky American kid can have some chicken and not throw a tantrum at flavors not common to the mainstream american palate. Kind of torn on how to rate the experience we had ... the food was great, but the customer service was severely lacking. A group of 12 of us decided to visit on Mother's Day ... obviously this is a family run business - which I wholly support - that gave Mom the day off. Because it seemed like it was the Dad and three kids who were operating the front of the house. After walking the waiter through the entire order from my phone screen - item by item - and triple checking items. I still noticed a confused look on the kid's face. I asked him if he got it all and he nodded and replied "yup." Then the food started arriving and I noticed two soups, a green onion cake, and a shrimp dish that I didn't order placed on the table. Before I could look up and ask him what those items were, he had already returned to the kitchen. I got up, walked over to the front counter and asked the older gentleman (Dad perhaps) why we weren't getting the items I ordered ... he proceeded to ask me "did you order in Chinese or English?" I informed him that Not only was the order placed in English, I ALSO showed the waiter the written names of the dishes on my phone. At this point the kid exited the kitchen with another dish that I didn't order and when questioned, he argued with me that I did order it. So I pulled out my phone and asked him where on my list of items that dish was. All I heard were him mumbling words as he walked away. With all that was happening, the other two kids were basically avoiding our table ... needless to say we had to get up for just about everything we wanted ... drink refills, extra napkins, utensils, etc. This whole situation became the standing joke at the table for the evening. We were still empathetic that they gave Mom the day off, and the two younger kids were very cute to help out. On the final bill, the mistakenly cooked / served items were removed. So for kudos on the kids' effort of helping the family business and empathy of staffing issues we did leave them 25% gratuity. I'm willing to give this place another try again in the future - making sure it's not Father's Day or any other holiday. The food after all was worth the visit. read more

I haven't been here in ages but I was craving for halal chinese food and this place came to mind. Ordered the beef fried rice and eggrolls for myself, and chicken cashew nut, thick sesame bread and beef cumin for my kids (to-go). The fried rice was a little bland for my liking so I packed the leftovers. My kids tried all the dishes upon reaching home and they all agree that everything was under-seasoned as well. Maybe this was why I haven't come here in a while. But for those who don't like too much salt in their food, maybe you would enjoy it more. read more

This place compared to other halal chinese: It's terms of taste and flavor, this restaurant is on par when compared to Ma's in Anaheim and Nomad Asian Bistro in Long Beach. If you like those places, you'll most likely like this place too. The price and value in terms of serving size is similar. This restaurant is smaller compared to those two. The maximum capacity is 90 people. They definitely have the best tables out of the other two.
