Very delicious and traditional Shanghai food. Location is not that good, in the corner of a plaza. I am sure food is not pre-prepared, as the kitchen is just next to us. Food comes slow, which is expectable since it is cooked after ordering.

Hole in the wall! Alley special! Whichever you want to call out, the food is great to my taste! All natural culinary and no gimmicks. The service is traditionally setting for Asian and not your boutique waitressing. So relax and enjoy this region of food and have fun.

Best Shanghainese's style I ever had. Call before go, tell them what kind of food you like, A lot of great food are off menu.

Good Shanghai style dishes that doesn't break your wallet. Wonton soup and green onion oil noodle with fried egg are my favorite.

I think they put too much dark soy sauce for coloring. the soup came last in a big clay bowl. tasty but the veggie is a little too soft/overcooked, and not enough bamboo shoots. when we asked for check, the server asked if we'd like to have some chinese dumpling desserts, compliments of the house. of course!!! it was another big bowl of sweet soup with egg flowers and lots of small sesame stuffed tang guan (dumpling). perfect ending!! this place is a staple in the n neighborhood for a long time. the food was always on par and price is reasonable. however, this time I felt the the presentation and flavors were not the same as before. we will still come back when we feel like a quick Shanghainese food.

I visited this restaurant twice before its permanent closure on April 15, 2026. Some dishes were…read moreexcellent, while others were just average. Szechwan DanDan Dry Noodles w/ Peanuts: Excellent. It was a bowl of dry noodles topped with green onions, crushed peanuts, and sesame sauce. It tasted like an upgraded version of sesame noodles with a better texture. Ding's Special Cold Plate: Excellent. This signature appetizer platter was one of the restaurant's best. It included five items: dried tofu, seaweed, pig ear, beef tripe, and spicy beef shank. Fried Pork Chop + Green Mustard Fried Rice + Spiced Eggs: A must-order. The fried rice had great "wok hei" (breath of the wok). The fried pork chop, which had a bit of fat, was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The juiciness and the texture of the melted fat were perfectly handled without being greasy. Shanghai Sesame Fermented Rice Dumpling Soup: A must-order. The portion was huge and enough for four people. It used mini tangyuan (rice balls) with sesame filling, and the combination of osmanthus powder, fermented rice, and egg drop was excellent. Also, it wasn't overly thickened with starch like at other restaurants. Soybean with Bean Curd Leaves: Very good. The moisture was reduced to just the right level, and the flavor was as satisfying as a meat dish. In addition, unlike the cold appetizers served elsewhere, this one was served hot. Braised Pork Belly: Good. It came with two translucent-looking spiced eggs and four pieces of pork belly. The sweet sauce was well-absorbed, and the meat was stewed until it was quite tender with almost no "porky" smell. Overall, it was a good dish, but the version at Blue Magpie in Arcadia is even better. The following dishes were good but not must-tries: Pan-Fried Dumplings, Steamed Dumplings, Stir-fried Rice Cakes, Braised Beef Noodle Soup, Shrimp & Pork Wonton Soup, Fish Fillets in Rice Wine Sauce, and Stir-fried Spinach with Garlic. Steamed Stinky Tofu: Highly not recommended! Is this even Jiangzhe cuisine? It tasted more like Sichuan-style poached stinky tofu. It was way too salty, so much so that I stopped eating after about 60% and didn't even have the desire to take the leftovers home. Shanghai Style Salted Chicken: Highly not recommended! The chicken texture was quite dry, and the worst part was the abundance of small bone fragments. I was afraid to chew too hard for fear of damaging my teeth.

The tables are very close together, which makes dining uncomfortable and difficult. While we were eating, a waitress pushed a cleaning cart/station into the limited space to clean the table next to us, bumping into my chair twice. I had to get up and move so she could pass, which was inconvenient while eating our meal. In terms of cuisine, the majority of the dishes today appeared dull and flavorless. We still enjoyed the House Chicken, but the portion was substantially smaller than before. Overall, the food was okay this time. I'm hoping they can enhance table spacing, service flow, and food consistency because the dining experience might be much better.

They raised their luncheon prices. What else is new. The whole world is in an inflationary mode. I tried two standard spicy dishes, Kung pao chicken and egg plant in garlic sauce. Not authentic flavor, not as bad as Cantonese cook makes it, but not that good. I know this because I used to owe a Szechuan Chinese food restaurant. They used too many side vegetables. There are bell peppers in both dishes. The eggplant had also water chestnuts, tree mushrooms and bamboo shoots--not a good combination. There is a mild hint of hot spice in both dishes, but nothing over powering. The eggplant has a bit of sour taste as well. Hot and sour are what the eggplant should taste like. All in all, it is ok. If you absolutely have no other place to go eat, this place will feed your stomach. Ray out!

There's certainly many vegetarian dishes, as well as some vegan options. This restaurant is perfect for those who have a party looking for classic Chinese food at affordable prices. We've dined here on multiple occasions when we're craving something authentic and tasty, and Tasty BBQ has always risen to the occasion. My favorite items have been the Braised Tofu, Tofu with Bamboo, Green Onion Oil Noodles, and Cabbage. They also have set combos where you can order four dishes with a soup for $50. We were able to swap out some of the meat forward dishes with something vegetarian. This a no frills mom and pop restaurant, that's clean, and simply decorated. Portion sizes are large, and service is quick, but note that there might be some take out orders ahead of you even if the store isn't packed. There's easy parking in the lot, but it might be rather full depending on when you're planning on stopping by. I was able to pay via cash or credit card and did not experience a cash only dining experience that another Yelper reported.
