Let's start with our martinis- the rickshaw Tini tastes like the cucumhere often so there was no fireworks there but the lychee-tini was perfect. I have heard great things about Masa and decided to give them a try. Sadly, i am not in a hurry to return. Service and cleanliness was great. We were seated right away and our drink orders were taken quickly. We ordered the crab wontons, Philadelphia roll and shrimp tempura roll. I was not a fan of the wontons but my daughter liked them! She had no problem eating them all! I was looking forward to the shrimp tempura roll, but sadly it was inedible. The coating on the shrimp was soggy. There was no crunch to the tempura at all. I've never not finished a sushi roll before, but there's a first for everything. I order the bacon and scallop fried rice. I know fried rice is supposed to be eaten together, but I am such a scallop fan I could not wait. Unfortunately, they were inedible. There was absolutely no color to the scallops. No sear. No seasoning. They seemed to be just microwaved and put on top. There is no way it was cooked with the fried rice. My husband and daughter enjoyed their pad Thai but it wasn't memorable. Tuesday!, Tuesday!, Tuesday! (If you are old enough to remember, I am hearing this in the voice of the old drag race radio ads where the announcer hollered Sunday!, Sunday!, Sunday! to get your attention before telling you all about Sunday's upcoming race). Tuna Tuesday it is with some pretty incredible tuna sushi deals (see the picture I posted). I went on a recent Tuesday with my wife, my son and his wife. They had flown in from LA for a visit and this was his wife's pick. When they saw the Tuna Tuesday specials their eyes got wide and his wife's first reaction was "order one of each". That might have been a little ambitious since only 3 of us would be eating sushi. The picky eater wouldn't be having any of "that stuff". Better sense prevailed and we ordered some options to start (tuna sashimi, tuna nigiri and spicy tuna roll) and a couple more (crispy spicy tuna roll and crunchy tuna roll) when those were gone. All were so tasty, beautifully presented and enjoyed by sushi novice and sushi aficionados alike. I am not a frequent sushi eater, but I have enjoyed the whole "experience" since I first tried it many years ago. I enjoy my process as much as the food: pour soy sauce into the small bowl, mix in some wasabi, marinate the pickled ginger then take your unfamiliar chop sticks, try to pick up a piece of sushi and dip it in the sauce, place a piece of ginger on top and get it in your mouth. For me it makes for a nice leisurely meal. My wife ordered the walnut shrimp entre as one of the simplest dishes she could find and she thoroughly enjoyed it. A lovely plate of plump, plentiful and perfectly cooked shrimp in a sweet sauce that she loved (whew). The shrimp were plated on a bed of salad greens with a side of white rice and lightly steamed broccoli. There were so many shrimp she could not eat them all so I helped her out and tried a few. Life is just so hard sometimes. If ever we go back on a day other than Tuesday, this will be the dish I will order as well. The shrimp were so fresh and cooked just right and the sauce was a perfect compliment. I also ordered the Thai Coconut soup and this may become my new winter comfort food. So rich and creamy with fresh mushrooms, pieces of chicken and a hint of spicy heat that made you smile. I wonder if this is what mothers in Thailand give their children when they are sick? Do they call it Thai penicillin? This soup also will be a must order on any visit and I may be tempted to get it to go on some cooler evenings. I also tried their salad with ginger dressing. The salad was fresh, but the ginger dressing was rather bland. The side of bok choy intrigued me since I had never had it by itself. It was simply cooked and also was bland, but now I have tried it. The restaurant was nicely decorated with lots of room and comfortable seating options. There is even counter seating overlooking the food prep for those who want to watch their food being made. The service was very good and attentive. I expected the menu to be a little pricier than others, but was surprised at how many reasonably priced items are on the menu. read more

I am not a Tallahassee native. I love good sushi. After trying multiple places in Tallahassee, I have found that this place is the best around town. We usually go on Tuesdays for Tuna Tuesdays and get multiple rolls to split. The spicy tuna roll, crunchy tuna roll, tuna lover roll, oh can't forget the dirty harry roll (so good). Not to mention, the tuna tower is awesome. A waitress suggested trying it with wonton chips, which was a good suggestion. My daughter loves their chicken and broccoli kids meal with lo mein. The cocktail drinks here are also a plus! We have never had bad customer service, and everyone is always friendly. Overall, It's a great spot. read more

IDK man. Heard about "Tuna Tuesday" and my girlfriend and I were excited to go try it out. Nice decor inside and very date vibes. As for the food... Originally we looked on yelp to see the tuna tuesday menu and as, ballin on a budget college students, we're so happy to see $3 sushi! unfortunately, that post was from 3 years ago and they doubled the prices :( We got the spicy tuna roll, tuna roll, and tuna lover to start. Granted we did not except the most high quality sushi but the tuna looked slightly pale and not fresh, as well as leaving a sort of metallic taste in your mouth (wouldn't be complaining if it was $3 but $6 for a 6 piece roll, was not impressed). We were left still unsatisfied and decided to try out the chicken pineapple "fried" rice. "fried" because you might as well advertise it being white rice. It tasted very bland with what looked to be something I could've whipped up in my kitchen in about 5 minutes. On top of that, there was an interesting sauce that came on the side which I think was supposed to be a "yum yum" sauce? more like UH-UH sauce! (pictures attached, little bit left of the "fried" rice but pretty much sums up the whole dish) On the more positive side, the staff was very nice and the service was surprisingly very quick. *pre-Covid* I had gone to Masa for a birthday celebration and Masa made it very easy to make a reservation for a larger party and were prepared on arrival. Their service was professional and friendly, open to help explain menu items and checked in on us throughout the dinner. The prices are a little above normal, but portion sizes are appropriate given the pricing. Easily had leftovers. We ordered the Thai Coconut Curry, Tofu Pad Se Ew, and Tofu Thai Spicy Basil Fried Rice. The basil fried rice had a little kick, but it wasn't unbearable spicy. The coconut curry was a great combination of Thai flavor mixed with the sweetness of coconut. The pad se-ew had great savory flavor. I recommend all dishes. We were in heaven eating these. The beef potstickers were a party pleaser. The crab cream cheese balls were a no-go. For main entree, I recommend the mango chicken or if your feeling a kick to the pallet try out the coconut chicken curry. Both great options. The chicken was unflavored and tasted like it had been boiled, killing all the flavor. I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The food was very tasty and came out quickly! We ordered the mushroom with garlic pepper sauce and chicken (5 - excellent), seafood tempura with sweet potato fries (my MIL'a concoction - she rated it a 3), crispy spicy tuna roll (4 - not spicy at all), and the new California roll (3.5). I also really enjoyed my Masa Mule. Portion sizes are large, so the price point is very reasonable. Restaurant has very nice atmosphere and the service was excellent. Went here for date night Wednesday and had a great experience. Our server Katy was nice and recommended me a very tasty lychee cocktail. The cheese crab wontons were a yummy appetizer, however, the entrees were the highlight of the dinner. My Thai coconut curry was very savory and paired very nicely with a side of rice. It was a bit disappointing they gave so little rice compared to the amount of curry (had to ask for another bowl of rice which was expensive - $2). Masa was actually the first restaurant I ever ate at as a college freshman, and the reason I chose this establishment is because I believed it to have a unique style of food with a romantic ambiance and for a fair price. It was ideal for my date that night over 3 years ago, and it was my choice again recently for many of the same reasons. The location may have changed, but the dependability and fine quality of the food at Masa is still just as spectacular. I was a part of Masa's sushi for two deal, and to my delight the flavor was as powerful as the presentation, which could be described as nothing less than a work of art. I also jumped on board for some of their house wine, which was of a superior quality as far as house wines go. In summary, there may be several places to get sushi in Tallahassee, but Masa has continued to dominate the game and become even better as time goes on. I grew up eating at this restaurant and its sister restaurants. From grandma Lucy Ho's past restaurant on Apalachee Parkway to her past Killearn location, Shaun Lee has been like family to my family. So of course, we were always patrons of his restaurant that he co-owned, Masa. Masa is an Asian fusion restaurant, a far cry from what was served in Lucy's old restaurants. Shaun put a modern spin on Asian fusion cuisine, which was and still is a rare find in the small city of Tallahassee. It had been a good year since I'd been to Masa. The interior smelled a little off but I wasn't perturbed. It's just the smell of small town. We were seated at our usual corner large table since we had six people for lunch Saturday. My parents were already seated and had ordered a pot of green tea. They asked for an additional pot when they realized the small pots of green tea would not be enough. Each pot later came out to be $3. We examined the menu before putting in our usual orders, the Fried Calamari Masa Style ($8) and the Sashimi Appetizer platter ($12). The Fried Calamari was a small bowl of salad but allowed for each of us to have a long strip of thickly but fragrantly breaded and fried calamari. The salad dressing was sweet and sour and complemented the red peppers and romaine lettuce well. I'm sure most people aren't weird like me, but I love when the vegetables get a little soggy and not as crisp from the sauce, because that was what happened. The sashimi came with 3 slices of salmon, 3 slices of tuna, and 3 slices of some sort of white fish that I'm not 100% able to identify. The fish was pretty fresh, just wish there was more, but I was surprised an appetizer came with so many pieces of sashimi. We decided to go "American" and each order our own dishes, but share what we had among each other. We ordered entrees ($10): Honey Walnut Shrimp Thai Coconut Curry (with chicken) Pork Cutlet Pineapple Tenderloin Tips Bulgogi Rice Bowl Whitefish (with Shiitake Mushroom) Each dish is heavily flavored but quite delicious. I ordered the Honey Walnut Shrimp which came with at least 8 fried shrimp, and they were not small. I was pleasantly surprised by the quantity and quality for $10. The Bulgogi rice was not bad but not really authentic as the Korean waitress claimed. The Pork Cutlet was fried to crispy perfection and the Whitefish was my favorite, although the mushrooms were a little too salty. The tenderloin tips were also flavored heavily but were super yummy. I forget that the cost of living is so much lower in Tallahassee so for the prices at Masa, you get hearty and quality portions of delicious food. Be sure to give it a try before they move the location down the street! Rumor has it, they will be opening a Korean BBQ in this store location while moving their new Masa further down Monroe St. read more

It was ok. The atmosphere was alright, dining area was a little crowded compared to other places right now complying with CDC guidelines. But I don't really care about that stuff I care about the food. We had a five dollar appetizer of bang bang chicken that was actually disappointing the chicken was overcooked and chewy. The dinner of grilled salmon with teriyaki sauce was super good. The sushi was ok for what it was. The dessert of fried cheesecake was a 10/10 from me. My biggest complaint however is that I was served a drink in a glass that was not washed. The coke I was drinking had lemon seeds floating in it. No biggie tho just got another one. High end sushi place with great food, lots of parking. There's a nice shaded seating area outside and the interior is pretty dark but fancy. My mom has trouble seeing so she didn't really like how dark the inside is and I had to read her the menu. We went at lunch time, they have good deals. I did two rolls for $12 and she got a combo meal for a similar price. Or server was thorough, continually checking to make sure we had everything we needed. Honestly some of the best sushi I've ever had at a great price as well! Came in today for lunch and was going to order the lunch sashimi, but our waitress convinced me to get the mini chirashi ($12). After a small wait, our food was brought out and I was amazed at my dish. The mini chirashi is 8 pieces of sashimi and tofu on a bed of sushi rice. The presentation was so beautiful. I literally sat there for a couple minutes just staring at my dish and couldn't bring myself to ruin its perfection. But my hunger won me over and I gave in to one of the pieces of salmon. This first bite was one of those eye rolling, happy dancing, melt in your mouth, smiling all over kind of bites. It was fresh and delicious! I savored every bite and was sad when it was all gone. I highly recommend this dish! The service was very good. Our waitress was attentive, helpful, and friendly. The restaurant had a nice atmosphere and very welcoming.
