While I waited, we got to talking, and somewhere between the small talk and the wait, we bonded over the Penang braised beef, which, as it turns out, is a favorite for both of us. We agreed on the bigger truth too: Asian cuisine simply never fails you. Funny how a shared plate and a good conversation can turn a rough week around. Sara(h), thank you. A message for the owners: Stop being cheap and fix your air conditioning. It was nearly hotter inside than outside in the dead of summer. You could barely move the chairs because they were so stuck to the sticky floor. The drinks: Hot sake can't be messed up, and the same should be said for a mule, but it was the worst we've ever had. How do you mess up a mule? Especially one that has the restaurant's name on it. The food: Some said it was pretty good; others said their broccoli was raw with melted butter on top. The Sushi is top notch! I was skeptical about trying their Red Dragon Roll as the creamy garlic sauce sounded a little scary for sushi. However, I am adventurous and decided to try it on my trip to Tallahassee. It did not disappoint! It was delicious. It would be better to give it a different name (rather than creamy garlic sauce), as it sounds like something you would eat on pasta. It was light, and delicately topped on the sushi as not to overpower or saturate. It was a perfect amount for a delicious dish. I also ordered the spring rolls, which were light and very delicious, and pork egg rolls. The Egg Rolls were heartier and more deep-fried, as expected. Drink: You MUST try the Thai Basil Jalapeno Marg! It's my first spicy margarita, and I have a feeling every spicy margarita from now on will have to compete with it! This is one of my go to lunch spots. Alyssa was my waitress and she was absolutely fantastic. They're running a great deal this summer with their bento boxes. Buy one get one half off. The food is really great Asian fusion. It has a nice outdoor ambiance on the patio that I was a big fan of. I had the beef tips and every part of the bento box was also good. I will be returning. Love the orange chicken. They serve a lot of starchy food in the bento box so instead of having both noodles and rice , I exchange the rice for steamed vegetables and eat the noodles without guilt. Although previous visits to Masa have been typically good with adequate to better food, tonight was not. I ordered the "Spicy Thai Basil Fried Rice," @$18 as an entree. There was absolutely nothing Thai about it, except the fried rice, which was not completely cooked. The beef I had chosen as a protein was tough, and full of gristle. There were no other "Thai" ingredients in the dish. I could not discern any basil, although there were some green beans and chopped red pepper for color. There was no seasoning I could taste, and the dish was certainly not "Spicy." I had to ask for some chili sauce to add heat, as the fried rice was absolutely bland. It seems like false advertising to name a dish "Spicy Thai" when it has no resemblance to any Thai food I've ever eaten, and I lived in Thailand for three years. read more

For dinner, I ordered the rib eye and it was very good. My son ordered a chicken dish and requested "as spicy as you can make it". Didn't disappoint. The seaweed salad was excellent. Fast forward a few months - it has been a while since I've been to Masa. I'd forgotten how good this is. For an appetizer, I ordered the tuna tartar with and it was delicious. I ate at Masa on the recommendation of a friend who "heard" it was good. I was sadly disappointed with the whole experience. I ordered spicy seafood fried rice. It was terrible! No spice at all. The salmon, shrimp and scallops were breaded and tasted old and stale. Perhaps they were freezer burned. No debate, it wasn't fresh seafood. The fried rice was lukewarm and tasteless. The bok choy and mushrooms were better. Definitely fresh and stirred fried lightly, but the dish was under seasoned. I asked for soy sauce just to give it some flavor. A big red flag - my food arrived in less than 10 minutes of ordering. I think many dishes are prepared ahead, like the fried rice. Not prepared to order. The wine glasses are tiny. This is one of my favorite sushi places in Tallahassee. I have been coming here since before I moved here. I love their outdoor seating area. They have fans for the summer and heaters for the winter. Some of my favorite rolls are the Viva Tally, volcano, and red dragon. For appetizers, I love their edamame and the black bean sauce. It's a great spot for birthdays and even for meetings. They have an eight top table that's tucked away for a moderately large party. They also have a bar area. They have weekly specials like tuna Tuesday and BOGO on some of their beverages during happy hour. After dinner you can go right across the street and walk around Lake Ella. Worth a stop! read more

I just ate at Masa 3/13/2026, normally I would not write a review, but I feel like since I was one of the first persons through the door at opening, I can do this without bias to long lines or crowded nights. For it to be just opened and the salmon to be brown tells me that there is nothing fresh about the food. I can tell you I think the fusion has gone to far as they are blending so much that the authentic flavors are lost to the amount of sugar in the sauces. The yum-yum sauce came to the table cold and stiff which once again means not fresh. The Pot stickers Well thumbs up to whoever does those it was the best part of the meal and the noodles were not so bad. The beef on the pineapple beef dish was nice and tenser but not pleasant to eat as there was a god-awful pepper taste and nothing pineapple tasting about the dish. If you're going to use it, use it as part of the seasoning not just on the dish. I was a little disappointed with the chicken and cabbage dish as well just to heavy with the sauces and once again they just lost the flavor with heavy handed sweeting. Would I eat there again maybe if they started buying fresher seafood for the sushi. But otherwise no! But if you want a friendly, clean place to drink and eat appetizers I would recommend the pot stickers!! read more

We were in town and this place had good ratings so we decided to give it a shot - we were not disappointed! While the attendant was getting our order (it was prepared and ready exactly as promised) another staff member checked to make sure we had been helped. While I would not have been surprised by that level of service three years ago, it is almost unheard of post Covid. The order was prepared exactly as ordered which again is more the rarity these days. It was all hot and fresh. The flavors were all really good to say the very least. We would definitely order everything again possibly with the exception of the fried calamari; it wasn't rubbery like some places serve it, so that was a plus - it just lacked any real flavor and was just a bit overly deep fried - probably would pass on that next time. We got the cream cheese wontons & volcano fried oysters for appetizers, two sushi rolls - Hurricane & Shrimp & Salmon toll, two of the express platters (at lunch it was buy one get the other half off!), drinks, and a dessert. This is my nth time and my first review (I thought I have done it before). Tofu coconut curry: 5 stars. As always it does not disappoint. I order takeout and the flavors were good but the sauce's texture was a tad off for me. Since I always done-in, I assume the vapors of the packaging changed the texture. Crunchy mango chicken: 3 stars. First time I ordered this food. I am confused with this dish. It is not crunchy at all so I was disappointed by the lack of texture. Flavors were good and it tasted like sweet/sour. Next time I done-in I will do a repeat. Maybe the steam of the food inside the container took out the crunchiness of the breaded chicken. I haven't been to Masa in about six years and decided to go with my partner who had never been! We had the pleasure of having Kadi as our waitress. I don't think she could've been anymore delightful! (Maybe, she's pretty cool.) We ordered two Asian white peach sangrias, lump crab and cheese wontons, the Ichiban roll, the sashimi dinner, and the chocolate molten cake. If you haven't had wontons with real crab in them before, you're missing out. Ichiban roll was delicious. I'm a sucker for shrimp tempura, eel, and avocado. The sashimi dinner was divine. Nothing like melt on your mouth sashimi! If you haven't learned to appreciate sashimi without dipping it in a sauce, I highly recommend it. We ended our night with a chocolate molten cake per Kadi's recommendation and she made it look extra special for us! Masa is well established in Tallahassee. The stand alone building with great seating area with interior or outdoor is great to have good time. It is close to downtown and has it own parking lot. Lunch special is affordable. The menu has great choices. I started with smoke calamari salad. It has good mixture of green. It definitely have enough calamari for two people or more to share. My entree is the mini Chirashi. It is assort sashimi over rice. I got the sushi rice. The assorted fish is fresh and good enough size. It also come with some veggies, masago, and egg. It is a good dish and I would recommend for lunch. Service is good. The food came out quick enough and not much of wait. Met my friend here for lunch at her suggestion. Our server was very attentive and was able to answer my questions regarding a couple of the menu items. I was excited to see lamb chops offered for lunch and did not hesitate to order it. It was cooked and seasoned perfectly and appreciated that they put the curry sauce in a separate dish instead of pouring it in top of the chops.
