Got the chicken masala pizza. One of the best pizzas I've had, ever. Big chunks of masala sliced chicken bursting with spice and flavor. We checked out their website and they had a coupon special, but unfortunately, it was no longer active and the owner is unable to figure out how to remove it from his website. Hey, not everyone is computer literate, me included, so we understood. We decided to order a large Colossal. It basically had everything on it. Man, it was really good! The sauce was kind of sweet/tangy taste. The crust was perfect! It was tender, but chewy with a little crunch on the edges. The toppings were more than sufficient. Overall, the pizza had immense flavor! Considering two meals at a fast food restaurant costs a minimum of $16+, the $18.99 we paid was well worth the price! We got the colossal pizza, garlic cheesesticks, tandoori chicken, and baklava. I missed taking pictures of the cheesesticks because I legit ate half of them on the way home THEY ARE SO GOOD. This place looks like a crap hole from the outside, but I finally decided to trust the reviews and give them a try. I ordered a small Mighty Meaty specialty pizza to go. It came with a small creamy / buttery style garlic dipping sauce when I picked it up. It smelled really good in the car, and looked even better when I opened it up in my office. It was obviously made to order, and tasted great. Red Onion Pizza (or Indian) is located on Sutherland Ave next to Dead End BBQ. I've driven by this confused little pizzeria for years and wondered to myself, what an Indian pizza would taste like. Red Onion has been operating in the same location since the 90's sporting a very simple menu. The restaurant is small and dated but the food is exceptional. In addition to the pizza and greasy cliche american cuisine, Red Onion offers some world class authentic Indian grub. I stopped by Red Onion one Friday afternoon and watched one happy customer after another carry out there to-go pizzas, while I waited of my Biryani (pork). Feeling adventurous and gullible I decided to dabble in some local Indian deliciousness. A simple yet rare dish, or so I've been told, Red Onion knows what they're doing. Despite the prep time (around 30 minutes) the Biryani was some of the best eats I've had in a long time. Biryani is a simple concoction of spices, rice and eat. The meal plated in front of me, that evening, was an exceptional simple yet multi-layered dish. A wonderful blend of spices created a symphony of flavors on my palate. The heat was invigorating and added a new dimension to rice I had never known existed. The pork was buttery and savory. I find myself at a loss of words when trying to describe the rice in the dish. The Biryani was world-class and plentiful. I had to do some real soul searching to muster up the strength to finish the mountain of rice and meat set in front of me. Red Onion is a gem. On my next visit I plan on trying something more conservative and grab a slice. The pizza has to be just as good, based on the line of people rushing in and out during my last visit. The interior shows the age of the building and the bathroom is dark and a little dingy. Pizza is fine, truly nothing special. They also refused to honor the coupons listed on their website. They proposed charging $37 more than what the total with 9.75% tax would be if you look at their website. They said that their rent had increased, materials were more expensive. I do not doubt that--costs on everything are insane right now--but if that's the case, then they need to update their pricing so their customers aren't taken by surprise. They said no one else but me had ever been frustrated by them not honoring the prices listed on their website, that every other person who does carry out just confirms the price beforehand and is fine with it...As you can see from other one star reviews, prices are relative for this store. So I can't comment on the pizza which may be great. Obnoxious soap operas on TV. Owner's were very friendly. Waited awhile for my food. When it comes, there was plenty of it, and the Lamb was good. Plenty of meat, and nothing seemed frozen. However, no nuts, eggs, garnishes, saffron rice, or sauces. Basically just Lamb and seasoned rice. Okay I take that back, I found a couple of pieces of okra which is a new one for me. Some sauce or a tiny piece of naan might have helped this dish out. This place is a hidden gem in Knoxville. I remember when they first opened their doors. They provided well-made pizzas, but I just recently visited and the place has changed. The quality of the pizzas have grown exponentially and now is the place I go for excellent hand tossed pizza. But if you come here, get the tandoori chicken and you can't go wrong. I know it's a pizza place but I stop by just for the chicken. Maybe it's not fair to review a pizza place when you haven't tried the pizza. For all I know, Red Onion makes the best pizza on the planet. I couldn't say. I stopped in at 1:30 pm on a Saturday and found I was the only patron. I tried a meatball sub ($6.49) and a Coke (can, 75 cents). The sub was okay. It was nicely toasted, but the meatballs themselves seemed a trifle bland. The can of Coke was a can of Coke. One thing that troubled me: despite the place being otherwise empty, the one other table that had been used had not been cleared. Remnants of someone else's pizza meal, along with assorted trash, just lay there waiting. It was still there when I left. Were they too busy to clean it up? I think not. As much as I'd like to support locally-owned, independent businesses, I think it's fair to expect they make an effort. A satellite-fed widescreen TV is mounted on one wall. That seems incongruous. Red Onion has more the feel of a place where, y'know, you'd drop a dime in the box and play a song about New Orleans. But at least it kept the place from seeming like a tomb when otherwise empty. On the plus side, the sub I had was not bad (if not awesome, either), the prices are friendly, and they do deliver in a limited local area. So I expect I'll get around to trying the pizza when I have the chance. There's ample parking, at least when the place is empty. Red Onion Pizza is closed on Sundays. read more

I have a friend who orders the Indian food here, and he said it's pretty delicious as well. The prices for the Indian food was a bit on the higher end compared to a large pizza. First of all, I want to point out that Mom and Pop shops like should always be supported. I have nothing but respect for small business owners. I hoping in respect to review the owners will see this and improve on their dishes. I went to this place a few years ago as visiting Gatlinburg. At that time I had tasty rice and kebab. However, recent visit was not as tasty. I understand they are trying to keep pizza and Paki/Indian dishes but should keep one or the other. Not both. I went there for south asian food but they had maximum 6 or 7 dishes. As far as the Pakistani/indian dishes, they were not good. The beef nihari cost as much $15.00 bucks. The chicken biryani did not have any spices. It was more of a pulao, traditional Pakistani dish but with less spices/flavoring. Auntie kept pushing tandoori chicken, (which I did not want to try at the time). Both of these dishes came out to 30 bucks with no sides. At least for that price, offer rice/chips/ or pakoras. The naan are not traditional stove oven naans. They clearly tasted like pizza dough that had be glazed with oil to try to resemble a naan. Lastly, as we were leaving there is no sign what so ever. I pulled out my debit card to pay and the gentleman charged .50 cent on top of my bill. At least have a sign up there that states additional charges for payments other than cash. I hope the owners see the review and try to add traditional Pakistani/Indians dishes that are worth the money and visit. I encourage them to get some motivation from Pakistani restaurants in Chicago and constantly ask their customers for feedback. read more
