I would give 5 stars, if they tone down the hot chilli spice level, and provide salt, pepper, and chilli shakers on the table for those who love extra hot. They need to move into a bigger place and have more knowledgeable servers. When we say mild, we mean little amount of hot chilli peppers in any form. They need to make everything mild and add hot chilli peppers for those who want it, its easy to add than to take out, which is impossible once added. This is a cosy eatery offering exclusively vegetarian cuisine. Peak periods can get busy. Restaurant's preference is for payment in cash. The vegetarian options are interesting and varied, featuring many items not regularly found on Indian menus around here. Food is fresh and tasty and the flavors are culturally authentic with reasonable levels of heat and spice. Start with the Masala Fries. Sprinkled with a delicious blend of herbs and spices, they are aromatic and extremely moreish. My favorite order has to be their paper thin rice and lentil crepes. I recommend the Plain Dosa or the Masala Dosa, the latter is filled with spiced potatoes and onions. Each order is freshly prepared and served with the ubiquitous sambhar curry and freshly grated coconut chutney, which are the perfect foils to these crispy crepes. Aloo Puri, a dish of potatoes and pea curry served with two puris, is also very good. Love the chewy texture of the deep fried bread with the savory and aromatic flavors of curry. This is the place to sample Thali, a traditional assortment of Indian dishes on a platter. Check out the several options on offer, each is a sumptuous meal in itself. We have been ordering chole bhatura from this local vegetarian Indian restaurant for a while. It brings back all the feelings of homemade goodness. Had the pleasure of picking up more take-out this evening and met the lovely Sonia who had me try their delicious vegan mango lassi (no white sugar either)! The food is always warm and fresh. Really good vegetarian and kosher Indian spot in the area. From what I understand, many of the dishes are considered Indian Street food, but they also have the staple curries. I personally love the Samosa Chat. Its a Samosa with chickpeas, and sauces. It's so yum. This is the second time I've been to Masala Kraft, and while it pains me to give only 3 stars, it's maddening that a place with such potential has failed twice. First off, the food is excellent. High quality, well balanced flavors, and dishes harder to find in average Indian restaurants, including a wide variety of chaat (street snacks). Unfortunately, the service is dreadful and the kitchen and waitstaff simply don't know how to get it together so people get their food together or in a timely manner. Last time, my tea was forgotten for 45 minutes while my husband got his lassi right away. I asked multiple times and it still took forever. This time, with my mother in law, her lassi was delivered but my husband's forgotten, then my tea delivered 20 minutes later, followed by his lassi 10 minutes after that. When we came in 3 tables were occupied, but newcomers coming in were served their food way before ours. My mother in law's chaat came out but the server didn't know what it was and confused me by saying it was the dahi puri (which comes in a little shell) and putting it in front of me. My puri came out 15 minutes after her chaat, and at the same time as my husband's dosa. My mother in law and I then waited another 30 minutes for our thalis, which only came when I stood up and said we would leave if we didn't get our food soon. It had been a full hour at that point and others had come, eaten and left. When we got our thalis, my husband had finished his dosa, the rice on the thali tray was stone cold, dal was hot, and we were out of water but couldn't get the waiter to give us more. The food remains very tasty when it's fresh from the kitchen, though I skipped the cold rice. The service is chaos as is the kitchen firing order. I really wish they could get it together but will have to have a hard think about if pani puri is worth the risk of not being fed. Damned shame. read more

I came to Masala Kraft Cafe with a couple of friends on a Wednesday night. It was pretty cold outside so we were itching to get inside and have a nice warm meal. It was just that! It was most of our first times trying Indian cuisine or that specific dish so it was all around a very unique experience. I ordered the Thali #1 which had a lot of different doughy pieces to dip into the sauces and soups. It was my first time experiencing so many difference flavors in one dish. We shared the lasooni gobi (which is a cauliflower appetizer) which was very interesting! It has a very sweet vinegar-like taste! It also must be popular because I came before the lunch rush the first time and after the lunch rush the second time and the place was always busy. I got the masala dosa during my first visit and it was delish. I got the onion kulcha (so?) with the spinach and it was SO good! Their garlic naan was okay, but I was so happy to see that they make theirs vegan. I know a lot of people tend to put dairy in their naan. I got the mysore masala dosa the second time and I think it was even better. I ordered this vegetable pancake dish which was also so good. The sauce it came with had such a nice mix of spicy, savory and hint of sweetness. Their vegan mango lassi is also fantastic! Seafood has been my primary source of protein for the last year and a half. But lately, I'm equally turned on by vegetarian dishes. Masala Kraft is an all-vegetarian eatery, with an excellent variety of appetizers to get things started, Dosas, Beverages (hot and cold) and Desserts that left me dropping my jaw and will return for more. No buffet here- just good Indian food- café style. Interior is small-scale with high stools by the window and a few tables around. Service was pleasant and was given, pretty much a brief description of Masala's North Indian style of cooking. Basically the few things I ordered, were so freaking tasty: the 'Masala Dal Vada' (crispy Lentil Patties served with a Peanut Chutney), was extra crispy and had the softest trace of heat and a delicate hint of Anise. The 'Lasooni Gobi' (Cauliflower Tossed W/ Garlic, Tomato & Cilantro) was real delicious- it has the right crunch without being overbearing and the seasonings, all blended. I just couldn't leave without having a Mango Lassi, that I simply couldn't resist- very good, just missed a real bang for more Mango. I'm not an expert at Indian food so I really can't compare it to anything, except to mention that it was well made. I got the best of both worlds here: a complete vegetarian restaurant and flavor. This is not a restaurant I would say they don't have a large seating probably it would fit 20-30 people. The kitchen can be seen from the counter the chef/owner of the restaurant cooking. They have many snack options like cheese toast, Dahi puri, etc. I was there for lunch and they had Thalis. I would say the portion size is small. It might seem expensive for anyone to spend for a thali 14-16$ but the food is fresh and tastes good. Good Food, Good Mood! This reasonably priced delightful southern Indian, vegetarian cuisine restaurant should not be missed. It is intimate, cheerful and run by Sonia and Abby who seem to really care about your experience. as their sign says, "Good food, good mood". We ordered too much food and enjoyed every bite. The Bahl an Indian street food of puffed rice, sev, cilantro and sweet chutney was new to me and delicious. Both the Mysore Masala Dosa and the Molghai Podi Dosa were beautiful to look at and so flavorful. We had an appetizer of a spiced cauliflower which was also delicious. My boyfriend and I ate here tonight and I have ordered for pickup on door dash multiple times prior. The food is always amazing, as it was tonight. The reason for the 3 stars is that upon sitting down we were told they were phasing out credit cards and asked if we had cash. I said sorry, we don't have. We were told we can use a credit card, but to remember for next time to bring cash. We ate and the food was absolutely delicious as usual, but then when the check came they were astonished that I handed them a credit card. And then was told that they don't accept credit cards anymore. We had just been told upon sitting down that it was preferred to pay in cash so just to remember for next time. They allowed me to pay with the card, but acted as if they were doing me a favor by allowing it. The neighborhood the restaurant is located in is an affluent area, not sure why the business would choose this course of action instead of charging a fee and allowing card sales. My biggest problem with the whole experience was the change in attitude when it came to pay. If they had said no credit cards at all when we sat down, we would've eaten somewhere else honestly. I'll definitely order again, but I won't dine in. I'll just order through door dash for pickup and pay with a card that way as I've done many times in the past. Hoping the business owner reads this because there's other ways to make up for lost revenue from card transaction fees. And most customers who don't ever carry cash are not going to make a special trip to the bank just to eat at this restaurant, which is going to equal much more lost revenue than credit card transaction fees. read more

Potato Kathi Roll - Seasoned potato, onion and cilantro chutney in a homemade paratha. -- Sounds nice; what I received were 2 bland potato balls for $9. The cilantro "chutney" is awful. I understand using potato powder for the filling, but at least season it. The $11 Pav Bhaji came as a small container (1 cup) of curried veggie with 2 burger type rolls toasted on the side. My father is a butcher, and my mother has worked in seafood most of my life, so when we arrived I was disappointed to find out this restaurant was vegetarian/vegan. This is my go to South Indian spot. It's so rare to find places that serve dosa and idli, I feel like most place focus on North Indian cuisine (also delicious!). The best part is this place is fully veg and vegan friendly. As a vegetarian it's so nice to be able to choose from the whole menu. They even offer vegan lassi. The owner is so lovely and helpful. We ate in for the first time last week and she was attentive and offered suggestions to every table. I always order extra food to go because one meal isn't enough. The idli and sambar are perfect every time, and the dosa are pressed flat instead of rolled but still crispy and absolutely stuffed.
