Indian food convictions: Maharastrian Edition. If you know me, you must know that I take Indian food extremely seriously. It must cater to the realest flavor and technique. Here was my mother's day meal: These days I miss the motherland a lot, and I was very emotional towards the end of this meal. Her classics are phenomenal and heartwarming. -Maharastrian veg thaali: thaali is a combination of multiple dishes in one. The baingan warli (eggplant with peanuts and stuffed spices) was OUT OF THIS WORLD! The fried puri with aam rass (mango puree), reminded us of nostalgic heaven. -Aam panna, a mango mocktail with special ingredients, was not sweet and just right! -Malvani fish fry.... oh my i have no words for this dish. She used king fish with a nice coating of spices and breading, on a cast iron, and it was beyond words. The level of effort she puts is what makes this dish worth running for. Went here real quick before a show at the Capitol Theater and had an nice and quick experience. I got a chai tea latte and felt that it was a little bitter for my taste but my mom enjoyed it and she's more of a tea person than I am so take that for what you will. We also shared the lasooni gobi, palak paneer and butter chicken. This was my first time ever having butter chicken believe it or not, I found the sauce to have a great depth of flavor but my favorite bite of the night was definitely the lasooni gobi. It was medium spice but was I definitely was able to handle it. I loved every single bite. The palak paneer was good too, but maybe I'd try the chili paneer next time because I found myself avoiding the sauce and the bell peppers and just eating the cheese, so I want to know if I'd like it more in another sauce. The place itself definitely needs some more life inside, it was empty and there was a huge TV playing music videos which was cool but definitely needs a fresh coat of paint, better tablecloths and some nice plates and cups would've been nice, it kinda felt like dining in was discouraged despite having a decent amount of seating. Last week I had a wonderful experience placing a Catering Order with Mumbai Katta. Each dish was lovingly prepared, according to my needs. I wanted less heat because I was ordering for a group of mainly seniors. I wanted the spices to come through but I did not want the heat. The Chef obviously listened because everything was flavorful without the burn usually associated with Indian food. This happens only when the owners are themselves involved and when they care about the food as well as the particular customer's needs. First of all, the delivery was seamless! The food arrived ON TIME. It was delivered by Anita and Jayant themselves, and they helped me with the set-up, as well. The presentation was GORGEOUS! You looked at the food and you wanted to eat it!! The Mango-Arugula Salad was both crunchy and juicy, with a light, tangy dressing. The fresh greens were looking so inviting with the generous chunks of mango adding color and temptation! My guests LOVED it! The Batata Vadas were crisp on the outside and bursting with all the flavors of warm spices on the inside. The potato filling was perfectly cooked. The Dahi Vada was oh so refreshing! The Vadas were soft and spongy, while retaining their shape and the Yogurt base was creamy, with the just the right balance of sugar and spice. The chutneys were fresh and zesty and Anita did a lovely job with the display of it. The mixed Chicken Kebabs - Sheekh Kebab and Malai Kebab - were soft, succulent and just the perfect size for easy-eating. As I mentioned above, the spice and heat levels were exactly what I had asked for. For once everybody was able to enjoy the taste of the Sheekh kebabs without that inevitable burn you feel in most other places. Congratulations to the Chef at Mumbai Katta for hearing what I had asked for! The enchanting Dessert, that unbelievable Kesar Shrikhand, was to die for! The yogurt was silky, not too tight , not too loose, with just the right amount of sweetness and the flavor of real saffron came through beautifully. The pistachio on top made the dish stand out and glitter and ask for praise! Oh, and the Gulab Jamuns were absolutely melt-in-your-mouth delicious, without being too sweet. Anita and Jayant helped me with the setup and I extremely pleased with the whole experience of ordering from Mumbai Katta. My guests loved the food so much they all asked for the contact information for the restaurant. I am attaching photos. I think the pictures speak for themselves. Visited Mumbai Katta and tried their Chicken Chicken Katti--it was absolutely delicious! The flavors were well-balanced, and the chicken was juicy and flavorful. Though slightly overpriced, the taste made up for it. Also tried Chole Bhature and Dahi Puri. The Chole Bhature and The Dahi Puri was refreshing, but not become a good fan . i haven't tried those before so can't compare very well the customer service was excellent--friendly, attentive, and welcoming. the pricing could be slightly adjusted to make it even more appealing. I walked past this place the day after Christmas and had heard such great things that I decided to check out the menu on the front window. Someone had said such great things about the Chicken Kolhapuri that I thought I should pick up an order for takeout. The dish and the sauce were exceptional (but no veggies, not even a sliver of onion). I couldn't help but think that I was "Nickel and dimed" a bit as the prices they post in the window are not what I was charged in person. Also, I am 100% certain that if I had asked for some cilantro chutney or other common Indian dipping sauce while eating at the restaurant they would not have charged me extra as I was this day. You will have to understand my excitement when I heard the buzz that there was a new Indian restaurant in Westchester with a focus on Mumbai street food/chaat. For those of you not familiar with chaat, please please do. Indian food is so much more than butter chicken and chicken tikka masala. We got many things, because let's be frank: we were all very excited. When it comes to chaat, we have our usual go-to's. Luckily, they were all on the menu, with many other items too. The pani puri and ragda patties absolutely set the stage and were perfectly spiced. The pav bhaji was also quite good, with the masala pav. I think my favorite might have been the vada pav: between the vada with the crisp exterior and soft, spiced center, and the perfectly griddled and buttered pav, it was hard to say what the best part was. Did I mention the mango lassi? Just what a summer evening demands. The restaurant itself is cozy and the staff are wonderful. Steel cups and plates/trays evoke a strong sense of nostalgia, they are everywhere in India. What I particularly appreciated was how much the staff and space made us feel like we were home, down to getting plain buttered pav and plain puri for my little one, who gave her seal of approval, maybe not in so many words. This place is a secret gem in Port Chester! I eat Indian food a lot, but Mumbai Katta specializes in street food - with lots of different appetizers to try. We had the opportunity to try lots of amazing and flavorful dishes not featured at typical Indian restaurants. Chicken Kheema pav is a ground spicy chicken served with a buttery bun - like a delicious sandwich! Sabudana vada are crispy potato and tapioca patties that are addictive (eat with sweet yogurt dipping sauce). There are also lots of wonderful vegetarian dishes to choose from. My family ate here tonight and we all loved the food, especially my father who grew up in Mumbai. The food was extremely authentic -- the chaat, samosa, and vada pav all tasted like Mumbai street food, our mains of the Chicken 65, biryani, and chana masala were all excellent and the desserts (especially the halwa) were also fantastic and reminded my family of home. This food was all extremely authentic, and I felt great after the meal because there was not too much oil or cream in the food. Additionally, all of the service was excellent.
