I really don't understand the low star reviews. Yasmin takes really good care of the restaurant and the quality of the food. As a brown person, i would recommend asking them to make the food spicier. Here are my top picks: -chicken tikka: ask for extra spicy. Top notch flavor. -goat roganjosh: soft and tender. Good masala base and made with care. Woman who took my order at the makeshift counter (COVID-19 Era) was very nice and polite. She also warned me about parking across the street. The food was impeccable! The paleek Paneer, fried white cheese cubes with creamy spicy spinach was incredible! I think it's the tastiest I've had thus far of this dish. I also order the beef biriyani- the meat was good and tender the rice was tasty albeit slightly dry but adding the yogurt sauce helped it along. As I mentioned, the host was very kind and she told me I could wait in my car and an employee would bring the food out to me in my car. I really appreciated that after working a long day. OMG, yup it's THAT good! I love the breads you can get when visiting a spot like this, as it always just feels artisinal and like someone's mom made it. This is just that. Such an amazing bread here that was pillow soft and slightly oiled with a fragrant curry flavor that came from the chicken and spices inside. I stayed at a local hotel and needed a decent takeout dinner for the night. After rummaging through the options available on a Sunday night around 6pm, I had decided on Ambadi. The food itself was decent enough. The flavors didn't blow my mind in relation to other Indian restaurants I've been to, but it was good enough to not complain. Unfortunately, my girlfriend's Goat Saag had very little meat in it and was mostly comprised of spiced sauce and goat bones. My order of Boti Kebab was my favorite flavor that I had tried from them, although the meat was particularly tough. The Lamb Samosas that I ordered came out as Beef Samosas. Still tasty, but was certainly a careless under sight. I was still hungry, so we ordered more samosas. I ordered 3 more orders of Lamb Samosas. There are supposed to be 3 Samosas per order from this restaurant (I had called them to confirm). I received 8 samosas. 2 of them were lamb; 6 of them beef. I cannot find beef samosas in the menu and the lamb samosas are the most expensive variety of them I can find in the menu. So the flavor in the food was again, decent enough. But ultimately, I was given food I didn't order, twice, and was not even given my full order in the second order. Maybe they were having a bad night, maybe they just don't care whatsoever. Who knows! I love eating here. The food is truly delicious! Yum yum yum! And the staff are always so nice. Plus, the restaurant itself is nice and comfortable. I usually have the grilled tandoori style salmon and it is soooo very delicious! It is cooked to perfection. It is lightly crispy on the outside with the perfect amount of tandoori seasoning and amazingly tender on the inside. And everything else we have ever had there is just as delicious too! Ate in for the first time since it reopened. We have been ordering delivery for years and finally checked the place out. Simple decor, big screen TV playing Bollywood musicals. The staff were lovely- it was nice to finally meet them all. We took advantage of their lack of a liquor license to snag a bottle of wine from a nearby wine shop. Everything was excellent. The papadum and sauces were great. Lamb samosas were cooked perfectly. We got the mixed tandoori grill, bhaingan bharta, paratha and mango pickles. I hadn't been to Ambadi since I last worked in White Plains about 10 years ago when the food was absolutely delicious and we used to go there or get takeouts at least once a week, so when I found myself in White Plains with time to kill before an appointment I decided to have lunch there. What a huge disappointment! Yes, it looks different, no longer just a bare bones place with steam trays of food (though you could always order other things like their scrumptious masala dosa which is no longer on the menu), but the food is bland and tasteless with virtually no Indian spices in anything. I had the chicken combo platter: a greasy samosa (which was actually the best-tasting part of the meal), chicken tikka masala (3 small chunks of chicken breast in a tomato sauce that lacked even salt, never mind any actual Indian-food flavor), curried vegetables (mostly cauliflower with a piece of potato and a cut up green bean in a flavorless green gravy), rice, and a naan. The meal included a dessert but I was given the bill without even being asked if I'd like the dessert too. There was supposed to be a choice between gulab jamun and kheer, but when I asked to take dessert to go I was given a small container with a tiny portion of kheer. What a waste of time and money...... I'd give it no stars if I could. read more

Very nice meal with family! We've eaten take out from here when it was the Bengal Tiger's take out satellite. Tonight we came in for an early meal and everything hit the spot. The menu had a good mix of vegetarian and meat dishes. I enjoyed the samosas though I thought the vegetarian one was better than the lamb ones (better flavor/spice). We did our family's "boring go to" dishes: the saag paneer, chana , chicken tikki masala. We were given the options of "mild, medium, spicy." Next time I may consider "medium" but the "mild" was certainly not bland. Dessert was also very traditional (gulab jaman and kulfi) but still quite good. Overall the service was very sweet and attentive. We ate early so there were a lot of take out orders and I saw door dash coming thru. The atmosphere is comfortable- you have a lot of color and the big bollywood musicals in background certainly makes for some entertainment. Definitely will be back and/or order out. read more

Today the line was longer, the food was spicier but you're my opinion made it more delicious, the woman behind the counter this time was older than the woman that was here on my previous two visits. She was not quite nice. When I asked for an additional vegetable rather than just telling me it would be an extra dollar or two and putting in a separate plate like the women usually does, this woman looked at me puzzled and said you only get one vegetable and one meat. We like to eat out when we can.  One of the greatest pleasures is discovering little family run ethnic restaurants.  The kind of place where the food is vibrant and fresh with real homemade recipes with rich sauces that are as delicious as they are fragrant and the gracious staff seem to go out of their way to accommodate.  Ambadi Kebob & Grill is one of those unicorn places for a great meal and friendly reception.  It's a little place in the center of White Plains just off the Post Road / Mamaroneck ave intersection next to the Arthur Murray  Dance studio and it's fun to look in their window at people more graceful than yourselves..  Narrow n cozy with checkered red tablecloths and wonderful music, we discovered it because we got a discount coupon in the mail one day and decided to give it a go. We love Indian food but avoid the really hot stuff.  Ambadi is the greatest introduction because they have an incredibly reasonable buffet lunch every day and you can just take your plate up and sample things like Tandori Chicken, Curry Lamb, and Sag which is a rich Spinach dish.  (Really, I it's like only $10 per person and a great deal)    The buffet dishes are very good and usually moderately spiced and non threatening to a mild palette, but order off the menu at night and the the magic really begins. Their dishes are often fantastic with the best Vindallo (Meat and rice) I've ever had- Savory, full flavored and complex. Our new favorite is Chicken Tikka Bhuna, a richer take on the standard TIkka. We usually order two dishes we know and a third that we have not had before.  With soda's it usually comes to just under $60 for a couple with leftovers to bring home.  Ambadi is a very special place. Negatives? They are closed Monday (How dare they have a life when we are hungry and I can't remember what day it is! :) No Liquor, but they uncork with no charge if you bring your own. read more

The kathi rolls here are just the frozen paranthas you get from the Indian store. They don't make them fresh. The filling had maybe 2 or 3 pieces of paneer, the rest was all oil and onions. Restaurant was empty on a weekend, don't know how mediocre businesses like this can survive. read more

Eat here! I was here YEARS ago and I'm happy to report it's still here and got a facelift! The place is really adorable! The new owners used to work at Bengal Tiger which was across the street which is why I came here to begin with. Bengal Tiger was some of the best Indian food I've ever had. Upon arriving it was POURING. The lady (I'm assuming owner) opened the door for me. That alone is worth it. Little gestures. Food is absolutely AMAZING. I got the chicken tikka masala lunch special, beef rogan josh, and saag paneer with naan. She wasn't trying to upsell me or anything. She asked me how many people and she recommended what was enough. The lunch specials alone are worth it. Anyone who eats Indian food knows that it can be a little pricey (but it'll last you two meals) and for 10-12 bucks for each lunch special of this authenticity is unreal. Chicken is tender and juicy, everything was absolutely delicious! And the owner was so kind to hook us up with a little dessert too. Again, little gestures make all the difference in my book. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for authentic, delicious Indian food in a clean and cute setting with fantastic customer service and reasonable prices esp for the quality. I like this place, mostly because the prices are very reasonable for Indian food around here. However, in my opinion, the food doesn't really compare to the food at Bengal Tiger (which, as Lex C. already mentioned, is across the street and owned by the parents of Ambadi's owners). Two out of the three times I've been to Ambadi, the food has been way too spicy for me, even though I've asked for it mild. The ambience is nonexistent. No decor to speak of, except for the glass case full of colorful Indian sweets and a TV that's always on. I think the food at Ambadi is pretty good, but it isn't excellent. The lunch specials are good, and great price for the area. Everything else in downtown WP is overpriced and overrated from what I've found. The food itself is flavorful but definitely not the best I've had, but I won't hold that against them since it's my personal opinion. I will hold them accountable for the sheer amount of bone and other items that I found in my food, which I unfortunately can't excuse. There is nothing more disconcerting than biting into Chicken Korma and having a large portion of the piece be bone and cartilage.
