The food & service here was fantastic! We decided to try something different for lunch & this Syrian food was just that. We were acknowledged immediately as we walked in & told we could sit anywhere we liked. We choose a table that had chairs on one side & a couch on the other. I sat on the couch, even though it was very comfortable it was too low to the table. The restaurant decor was simple with couches & beautiful jeweled chandeliers plus traditional music played in the background. Note, plenty of free parking was available as this place is located in a strip mall. I ordered the Beef Kabob Plate that came on a delicious bed of yellow rice. The beef had been marinated in a yummy marinade then perfectly grilled with two dipping sauces. Wow, this was super flavorful. In addition, there was a small salad with a wonderful spice dressing. On the side was warm Pita Bread & some of the best Hummus I've had in a long time. What a memorable meal...I'm looking forward to trying some of their other dishes. read more

We hadn't been here in a while. Honestly, we hadn't been here since they changed locations and altered their name a few years ago. But in the mood for Mediterranean, and deciding on takeout, we gave them a try. I was confused by the online ordering options, so I figured I would just go in, order at the counter, and wait for the food. I was quoted 15 mins. Only one group of four was seated, so I hoped it might be a little quicker. Ended up being closer to 25 mins before it was ready. First, the good. Portions are really large. The hummus and rice both continue to be fantastic. The pita that comes with the dish is fine, including the dipping sauces provided. Like I've done in the past, I had the meat combo. The Chicken kabob and kafta kabob are both really good. Great flavor and cooked perfectly. Also, counter service was friendly for the most part. On the flip side, my beef kabob was really tough again. Looking back at previous reviews, this seems to be a trend. I probably need to either just get the chicken or see if they'll let me sub another chicken for the beef. Speaking of beef, my wife usually gets and loves the beef shawarma. Not so much this time. It was really tough, and she said it tasted kind of burned too. Seems like this just shouldn't happen. Mental note for us...if possible, we should see if we can get them to hold the tomatoes from the salad, since neither of us like tomatoes. read more

My wife and I have been trying to find good local restaurants around the area. We have found very few so far. We were once again disappointed with another independent restaurant. Mashawi was okay, but not what we would expect from our experience with Mediterranean restaurants. Of the dozens of Mediterranean restaurants we have eaten, the food at Mashawi had the least flavor. I ordered the gyro, which was small and bland though the meat was lamb. Lamb usually tends to have more flavor than other meats. The lavash overpowered the gyro due to the lack of other ingredients. My wife ordered the house salad and a side of falafel. The salad by itself was a disappointment. She had to dress up the salad to make it flavorful. The tahini sauce which was the sauce for the falafel was watery. I even poured some on my gyro and it added nothing. I did add a star for the service which was excellent. Our server (I believe she was the owner) was pleasant, but the food... I can't recommend Mashawi. read more

For a dinner meetup, we decided to try Mashawi Damascus Cuisine, their new location previously known as Damascus Grill. The place is much bigger and brighter than before, and it's clean inside. We were three for dinner and ordered the Mashawi platter for 2 as suggested by the staff. We were all pleasantly surprised when our order arrived. The serving was super generous...The three of us couldn't even finish it. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful. The hummus was creamy, the salad was fresh, and the rice had really good flavor. They also gave us a lot of warm pita. The meats were good and flavorful. Everything was nicely executed except for the beef kebab which was a bit tough. Service was friendly and the food came out warm and fresh. We'll definitely come back and hopefully the beef kebab is a little more tender next time. read more

Ridiculously overpriced and overhyped. Over $50 for takeout. The portions weren't even generous. The worst part is that we watched them warm our takeout pita in the microwave before wrapping it in foil. That is the nail that sealed the coffin for me. My lamb kebab while seasoned nicely was too charred. It was so charred that it created a hole in the styrofoam container. The beef shawarma was okay and had a less than appetizing look. The pita bread was lukewarm after a less than subpar wrapping in foil. The restaurant looked nice and maybe we would have gotten fresh food if we hadn't done take out but I won't be giving this place another try. Such a disappointing experience. read more

One of our favorite Mediterranean restaurants, Mashawi stays consistent with amazing dishes, drinks and hospitality. Their portions are also generous where we always have leftovers. The space is bright and takes you to another place. The staff treats you like family and feeds you a feast every time. I can't truly say I have a favorite dish because they are all so good, but if I was to pick, I would say the Baked Lamb and Lamb Shank. The meat is just so succulent and tender, you basically slurp it. But the rich savoriness is what makes you melt. Oh and, I definitely recommend getting the side pickles with your meal. We've been here a few times (and had visited the old location several times as well). I'm surprised that I haven't already given this place a 5 star review. I'm so excited that they moved to a bigger location!!! The new location is a few blocks down from the old spot, and has lots of parking outside. I love that fact that while their seating may have increased, the welcoming and courteous service, and ethnic ambiance is ever the same. From the homemade hummus and pita breads to the flavorful and juicy kebabs, I have yet to try an item that was underwhelming. Most dishes are accompanied by rice & salad, and serving sizes are decently huge. During my recent visit, I also tried the Turkish coffee and the original baklava - a perfect palette cleanser after a delicious lunch. I guess restaurants these days continue to charge more while they skimp on portion size. Not that I am looking for a huge Gyro, it's just that the amount of meat was easily half of what should be served. And $2 for a small ramequin of tzatziki seems overpriced to me as well. Just a little place next to Castle Rock; not much for ambiance but the food is good. The meat platter was really good- except the Kofta (which as overcooked). The other two kebabs were cooked perfectly and delicious. The rice was really good and I liked the salad & hummus. The other thing I liked was the sauces they brought with the plate, they added flavor. You order at the front of the restaurant when you walk in and they bring you your food. We had to wait about 25 minutes for our food to come, so it takes awhile. Overall I was impressed, the food quality is significantly better than most Middle Eastern places I've tried. I was passing through Castle Rock today around lunchtime and Yelp pointed me to this place via great reviews. The reviews were spot on. We were greeted by an incredibly friendly woman the second we walked through the door. She pointed us towards the menu on the wall and answered all our questions about the menu. I ended up ordering the falafel plate and it ended up being a great choice. The food was fresh, hot and very very authentic. My friend who is from Castle Rock, wanted to order a particular stew that was no longer on the menu. The lady said they took it off the menu as not enough people were ordering it. She offered to make it tonight and have some available for him tomorrow. Wow, what an incredible hospitable and friendly offer to make. The cool thing is that she meant it very sincerely. We enjoyed our meal very much. The place is very small but it's clean and the food is amazing. Try e service is very personable and pleasant. I had my food DoorDash'd today; probably a bad idea because my lamb and rice sandwich fell apart as I began eating it. The lamb was really flavorful and tender though. The biggest upset was when I saw the size of the baklava and namura. $7.50 for each and you get one piece that is 1 1/4 inch by 1 1/4 inch.
