We came for happy hour on a Saturday and ate in the bar area. First, I need to remember I did not like the $5 house red wine and won't get it again. We split the cheese curds, which are fantastic, and the Mac and cheese, which was good as well. I had the Chop, which I've had before and loved. It was ok tonight, maybe a little overdone and dry compared to other visits. My wife had the Caesar salad, which they've changed since the last time, and she didn't enjoy it as much. She said she might skip that night time. She thought the Greek flatbread was ok, but she might just get a couple of apps next time instead. Our daughter had the pork belly sandwich, but she didn't care for it. I had almost half of it and thought it was actually good. She wouldn't get it again. Like always, we finished with the PB Bites, which are still super yummy and a great way to finish the meal. Service was consistent the entire meal. read more

2nd visit to this restaurant. We came during happy hour and appreciated the prices on drinks and apps. I always get their pork chop which is listed under Big Plates. The flavor was a good as always, but for $38 it was tiny, like 4-6 ounces of chop without the bone. Next time I will have to get something else as I was hungry when I left after spending $100. Good place but hard to justify that spend. read more

Union has the potential to be great, but ends up being just okay. We sat on the patio and it was big with plenty of space and was clean. Our service was mediocre, with extremely long wait times between our server stopping by our table. We waited for way too long after we had clearly finished eating to be able to pay our bill, even after the hostess walked by and we asked her for to go boxes no one showed up. The food was good, but the menu reads like a culinary vanity project--each dish bloated with unnecessary ingredients that serve no purpose beyond justifying a price increase. Having some basic options would make it more appealing to visit frequently. The cost was just as bloated as the menu and neither my partner or I finished our dishes and while they looked great the they did not justify the price. read more

We met a friend here while traveling in CO. She offered up several suggestions and after looking at Yelp reviews, chose to meet her here. We sat out on the patio, which was beautiful. Castle Rock is exploding not only with housing but businesses including restaurants. We were so happy to land here! Their menu has a great variety of sandwiches, salads, flatbreads, and so much more. We started with an order of the calamari fried crispy which was served on top of the creamy remoulade. Oh my gosh...this is some of the best calamari we've ever had with a crunchy outer crust that was light and crispy. The calamari inside was tender and cooked well and the remoulade added the perfect dipping sauce. So flavorful and wonderful!!! I ordered the grilled 4 oz tenderloin salad which is made with mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, bacon, blue cheese and crispy potato strings. Everything is mixed with a yummy yet light blue cheese dressing. The meat was sliced thin and was so tender and juicy (I ordered it medium). The salad itself was fresh and found no slimy leaves as you sometimes do in mixed greens. Overall the salad is big and I wasn't able to finish it all but those crispy potato strings are the bomb! They added a great crunch to the salad. Wife had the Greek Flatbread, which was a great vegetarian dish with tomatoes, red onions, romaine, olives, pepperoncini, and a creamy dressing made with artichoke and spinach. She loved it! Said it was fresh and she liked the way the flatbread itself was soft and tasty. Our friend also ordered a flatbread, the Thai one and she said the peanut sauce they use is "the bomb"! It comes with chicken, cheese and what they call an Asian salad which had lots of diced veggies. We had to order dessert because they had coconut creme pie on the menu. Ok, so this is what creates my 5 star review! That pie...oh my gosh. First, the crust is light and tender and then the filling is beyond words to describe. It was huge, creamy, full of toasted coconut and was one of the best pieces of pie we've had! Seriously...it was so good! I am so thoroughly disappointed. We used to live in castle rock when they opened 20 years ago and we've been a loyal following since even though we moved down to the springs. We ordered a to go order tonight, we got our regular appetizers of the calamari and Italian egg rolls. The Italian egg rolls were $12, 2 small egg rolls barely filled with any filling. The calamari is definitely less. I understand there are a lot of cost pressures with everything going on in the world but this is unacceptable and unsustainable. We make great money, but I'm not paying for take out food that we can make better at home due to the lack of quality that we're paying the same or more for- I'm done. I hope you all make it through this but it won't be with us. To add to the review, we had the stroganoff and the onion was so sweet it was not edible. My husband threw it out. I haven't tried the salmon quite yet. read more

We went on a Saturday evening and they had martinis on special. There is an entire page of options for only $8.00 all evening not just during happy hour. We tried 4 different options and all were delicious. The table shared the Brussels sprouts, cheese curds, Thai flatbread and Italian egg rolls. Good variety but the Brussels were definitely a winner. Went for happy hour, pretty unsatisfied. Ordered a gin martini expecting it to be a normal well cocktail for happy hour, but got up-charged twice as much for a big shaker show tableside that I did not order, and a glass full of cloudy, diluted, undrinkable plain gin. Server explained to me that they don't even have vermouth and that the shaker of ice was the martini part. He was actually telling me that all the "martinis" listed on the happy hour menu are only called martinis because they get shaken on ice. Uniquely the worst interpretation of a regular old martini I've ever had in my life. Bartending malpractice of the highest order. The food was not expertly prepared, but it was ok, and it's the only reason I'm giving two stars. The roasted mushroom app was not cooked very well, and the mushrooms were sliced thin, not chunks, so the texture was odd and undercooked. The Cajun meatballs were promising but were smoked too hot or something because they tasted bitter and acrid. The fried broccoli, Italian egg roll, and Brussels sprouts&bacon apps were decent, and they're the main thing keeping this from being a 1-star. We won't be returning if we can help it, so we'll probably never know if the happy hour menu is a worse bet than the main one, but the possibility exists. read more

What a wonderful, quaint bistro in downtown Castle Rock. My husband and I were in town for the holidays and wanted to meet friends over lunch. Castle Rock was a great halfway point. Union An American Bistro had fabulous food and a cozy atmosphere that was quiet enough for us to visit and catch up. We started with some appetizers of marinated olives and Butternut Squash. Outstanding flavor, warm, and delightful. My husband had the Thai Chicken Flatbread. Perfect lunch portion. I shared it with him along with my order of Coconut Fried Chicken. Loved the shoestring fries that came with the sandwiches. Delicious. Our friends had the Brie Grilled Sandwich with salmon, a salad, and Adovado Spiced Shrimp. I didn't try their dishes but they raved over their offerings. Don't pass on dessert. The Coconut Cream Pie is heavenly. Add some coffee to round it out. Our server was pleasant and helpful and extremely patient while we visited and leisurely perused the menu. We will definitely keep this gem in the rotation for future visits and tell all our Colorado friends and family to stop in. read more

Truly, the only thing that I DIDN'T like here was the fact that there were too many parents who don't curb their children there. Toddlers and babies were just running amuck, and it didn't help that we were sat in the very middle of the restaurant. We went here on a Friday and we couldn't eat meat due to Lent so they had lots of options. The Brie plate appetizer and calamari was a great combo and it made us full already. The salmon was great and just the right size. The tacos were flavorful but we had to take it home because we were full. The service was fast and the menu was great because they had happy hour as well as discounted appetizers because we had an early dinner. There was a dining area extending the restaurant but we opted for the area by the bar as that area had the discounted drinks and apps. Stopped in last night for a small bite to eat and was very disappointed in the food. My husband had ordered his hamburger medium well and it came out rare. I ordered the charcuterie board and the brie cheese was cold and the flatbread they served it with was hard and was like it was tour or three maybe four days old Service was not great. We made it on time for happy hour so we ordered fish tacos, truffle tots and baked brie- all to share. The truffle tots were undercooked and tasteless. However, the fish tacos and baked brie were great. The baked brie is a MUST. So. Good. When we told the staff the tots were not good and we would like to order the Mac and cheese instead, they were on it. No issues at all. And the Mac and cheese was great. Drinks were great too. The crust for the flatbread was so soggy, and the bread for the table was disappointing. I was embarrassed as I was hosting guests and felt like I let them down. Visited about two weeks ago with family. Food was alright, calamari was my favorite thing! However, the service definitely could be better. It was a busy night, so I understand the stress Brandon must've felt, however the attitude I noticed from him to peers and people could definitely use some work. We sat in the bar at the community table and waited 15 minutes for service before the manager finally came over to help us. This is a charming little spot on Wilcox St. in Downtown Castle Rock. We've been here during the summer and winter, and though I expected to like it better on the patio, even the inside was cozy and welcoming with the snowy weather. The staff was also delightful both times... while it might have killed their general vibe, they let me sit there over a drink while I did some work, waiting for my daughter to finish ballet class. What a treat! It has been a while since I've had the food here but it's great from what I remember. Castle Rock can feel difficult when it comes to food options, and I like how it has a broader menu than the standard burger joints and pizza spots. Came here for an early Valentine's date and yet again was impressed for a 4th visit in a row! Ambiance was relaxed which was perfect for a date night. Our server was very attentive and offered feedback on the menu items we were considering. We started off sharing the Italian eggrolls and decided to try the honey sriracha infused shaved brussel sprouts as well. Both were spectacular and we ate every last bite. For our entrees we split a salad and the famous "Chop". Words are very difficult to describe how perfect that double bone pork chop is with apple chutney and cider mustard glaze. I'm just going to recommend trying it for yourself and let your eyes roll to the back of your head in utter delight. I am glad this has remained on the menu.
