Their lobster roll photos are what drew me to hunt for this place on the 3rd floor of the mall. $25 for their classic - can definitely dent my wallet - the roll is smaller in person but the amount of chunky sweet claw meat (when comparing to the Vegas and further west lobster offerings) made each bite satisfyingly memorable. I'm not a big seafood guy, but I've recently had occasion to try some lobster rolls and it got my curiosity up. A local Twitter personality referenced Mason's as a favorite quick MOA option so I decided to try it out. My first impression is about the price. All their rolls start at $19.95. I guess that's what you have to pony up for lobster meat in suburban Minnesota, but if you're prepared for that price tag, you'll probably feel like you got what you came for. I got the Classic Lobster Roll, which normally uses cold meat but I asked for the warm-meat version. It's got a great amount of meat and a veritable ocean of garlic butter. I dug it. It's definitely different from most of what you'll obtain over the Mall of America's many food counters, and maybe I'd be happier about the transaction if I were more into lobster. The service here was good, the food lackluster. Paying $20 for a salad, I expect a meal, not something the size of a fast food side salad with those exact same accouterments, the exception being the lobster. Mind you, the lobster was delicious, but as you can see from the picture, I had more tomato than lobster. It also came with a dressing packet of the sort sold by a bulk supply company. For a $20 salad, I expect a lot more. My son had the plain macaroni and cheese, and he thought it was just okay; he was happier with the bag of chips. Visiting the area and excited to try some lobster rolls. When we got up to the cash register area to order, there was one young man sitting on his phone. He was a bit rude and short and didn't converse or look happy to be there. The other lady that made the rolls was much better and provided more customer service. There are a few choices related to the sauce on the roll, as well as whether you liked it warmed or cold. I would recommend the warmed lobster roll with butter, as that was really yummy. You only get the lobster roll for the price, no extras like a bag of chips (other lobster rolls typically have a bag of chips and maybe some cole slaw). Prices ranged from $17.95-$22. I was a bit surprised at how much smaller it was compared to other rolls I have eaten before. However, it was very yummy and would recommend at least trying it out. read more

Great sandwich, albeit small for the price. The Connecticut roll had nice flavor, lots of butter. The potato salad left something to be desired, it really had very little flavor or seasoning. I added a bunch of black pepper just to get some taste. The main issue was the staff. There was one gent working on the kitchen, then there was another guy on the register. Once he took the orders, he went and played on his phone instead of helping the one and only other employee with getting the orders out. He could definitely use some retraining. read more

Just opened July 8th in Mall of America. The staff was very personable which was a nice change for grabbing something even near a mall food court. Yes...I know MOA isn't your typical mall, but you know what I'm saying. One of the best lobster rolls I've had since being stationed on the East coast. Since we were visiting from the Des Moines metro one of the things the owner said really grabbed my attention. Said he's looking to expand to the Des Moines IA area too... When out of town I won't eat somewhere I can eat at home. Almost all of the eateries in MOA we have in Las Vegas. That is what led me to Mason's. I got the Connecticut Roll and added a Clam Chowder. The menu said you could add a cup of soup for $3. My total was around $30 and I only got the 2 items so I don't think I was charged correctly. There was quite a long wait for my food. I did enjoy it once I got it. The roll was very good. The clam chowder was ok. Not bad for a food court. read more

This was incredibly disappointing. I wanted to try this place so badly. I made a trip to the Mall of America. For some reason, I thought it was a sit-down restaurant in MOA, but it was just a walk-up kiosk type thing. I was absolutely flabbergasted at the prices. For their prices, I would expect a lobster roll just overflowing with lobster meat and a side of fries with MAYBE a drink. Nope. I got a half-empty lobster roll. As someone who grew up on Cape Cod, I was interested to see a lobster roll chain opening in the Mall of America. I looked up the chain and their history and went in expecting not perfection, but at least a passable lobster roll. I was one of the first in line on opening day. The management staff on duty were honest-to-god New Englanders (in fact, one knew of my family's old business on the Cape!), and the roll was better than I was expecting. Not 100% perfect but a solid 95! They even used the right style of bread roll (New England top split)! All in all, a real taste of home here in the Midwest. Expensive (since it's lobster) but so worth it. This will be a regular stop for me at MoA in the future. read more

We really wanted this to be good... Unfortunately, the quality and execution just isn't where it needs to be. We ordered two Bar Habor's in the Connecticut and lobster salad styles and gave up even trying to keep eating them halfway through. The tail looks great as one whole piece but trying to bite off a piece of tough lobster tail isn't pleasant so dicing it would have been better. Both rolls were very bland and desperately in need of seasoning or at least a wedge of lemon. The Connecticut roll is supposed to be served warm but the temps were all over the place depending on what part you touched or bit. I don't foresee this place lasting very long. read more

I had high hopes for this place because I grew up in the east and my dad is from Maine. I crave lobster rolls at times. Sadly, this one was a big waste of time and money. I'm giving them two stars because there was a decent amount of lobster in the roll, but it was so terribly dry. The bun is actually a folded piece of Texas toast, which is also very dry. A little bit of melted butter would have helped, because who eats a lobster roll without butter? Honestly so dry it was hard to eat. I wanted to love Masons. Finally, a place in the Mall of America with real, simple seafood. I was so excited the day I, along with a friend, got to Masons. I ordered a very disappointing Connecticut lobster roll. Inside a dry, stale bun was about a 1/2 lb of chewy, rubbery lobster. There may have been some butter, but very little. Tasteless and disappointing. My friend had the lobster bisque, and she said it was acceptable. My total bill was over $19-i could have had a real and delicious meal elsewhere for that price. I'm glad Masons has given the MOA a chance, but in order for them to be successful they will need to lower prices or improve their menu. read more
