A special shoutout to our server, Sandra, she was fantastic. We started with the bang bang shrimp--perfectly crispy with a delicious sweet heat that wasn't overpowering. Easily one of the best appetizers we've had. For my entrée, I had the twin lobster tails they were tender, buttery, and flawless. The seasonal vegetables were fresh and perfectly seasoned. My husband ordered the Connecticut lobster roll, which was loaded with generous chunks of lobster, lightly dressed, and served on a perfectly toasted roll with crispy fries. Simple, fresh, and absolutely delicious.

It's in a newish shopping center, which, for us, had a bonus-- there is a Harris Teeter there. We needed to pick up some items, so we did before having dinner. We were here for an early dinner. Now that it's getting darker so early, we try to avoid driving after dark, when possible. Thus, we were here around 3 p.m. and were glad to see they were serving dinner at that time. To drink, I chose a mocktail called "What a lychee" which consists of "lychee, pineapple juice, club soda". It was garnished with a lychee. I did enjoy this drink. My husband had a non-alcoholic Stella Artois. Upon arrival, we were greeted and seated immediately. Having looked at the menu before arriving, we each knew what we wanted. I chose to try the "Blackened Pan Seared Yellow Fin Tuna" which (supposedly) consists of: "Topped with jumbo lump crab meat, sundried tomatoes, shiitake mushrooms, creamy lemon sauce served with rice." My husband chose the "Shrimp platter," which (supposedly) consists of: "crispy beer battered shrimp, coleslaw and chipotle sauce served with hand cut French fries." It took a while for our food to come out. As I was eating, it dawned on me that there was no crab meat or sundried tomatoes. Also, the sauce sure was a creamy lemon sauce. It was more like a miso-flavored sauce. Hard to say if the menu got changed, but no new menus were printed up to fix it. Or was it that the young man who cooked the food wasn't familiar with the entrees? Still, despite the discrepancies, I did like this dish, although it would have been even better if they had prepared it correctly. My husband noticed that there was no Chipotle sauce on his dish. Instead, there were two small containers: one with ketchup and another with tartar sauce. He, too, thought that his shrimp was well prepared, although the breading didn't cling to the shrimp. This experience left us with mixed feelings. On the one hand, we appreciated the friendly, attentive service. Yet, on the other hand, we wonder whether it's worth going again, given the possibility of not getting all the ingredients for one's entree. We liked the ambiance, which evoked images of the beach. They have some nice paintings on one wall depicting the seashore, a lighthouse, and beach houses.

We've had plenty of bad experiences with Chinese buffet seafood making us feel sick--pretty sure I'm not the only one--but that has never happened here. The food is always freshly steamed and served hot when you order. I'm not a big fan of overly salty, heavy American-style seasoning, so I really appreciate that they can prepare it without all that. Also, my daughter doesn't eat much seafood, but they're flexible and let us order something simple like a mozzarella stick for her, which is a huge plus. Yes, there's an 18% gratuity for parties of 5 or more, but it feels fair for the quality and service. The gumbo you can order on the side is amazing, and the crab legs, mussels, clams, and shrimp are all fresh and delicious. It's $58.99 per person, which isn't cheap, but definitely worth it. Highly recommend.

The service was also thorough and professional, which made the experience even better. The portions are huge, so I'd recommend coming with more people to really try a variety of dishes and make the most of it. We live about 40 minutes away, so it would probably be more of an occasional treat for us, but if you're ever in the area, it's worth checking out.

Vast | Service | Variety…read more Vast -- This is a very large restaurant. It's deceptively spacious. From the outside, it looks like it seats maybe 75-100 people, but once you walk in, you realize it's easily 2.5 times that size. The layout feels open without being overwhelming, which helps it handle the crowds well. Service -- We had excellent service, especially considering how busy the restaurant was. We had a primary waiter, but 3-4 other staff members also stopped by throughout the meal to make sure everything was going smoothly. Whether it was refilling waters, checking on our infant child, or making sure our food arrived on time, the staff was consistently attentive and helpful. Variety -- The menu offers a wide range of both drinks and food. The wine list, in particular, is extensive. There are plenty of options for both lunch and dinner, with a strong mix of à la carte selections and traditional entrées. There's enough variety that most people should be able to find something they'll enjoy. Pro tip -- The restaurant is located inside a very busy mall area, so street parking can be limited. Plan to add a little extra time to your commute and parking search. Pro tip -- There are approximately 10-15 Tesla charging stations within walking distance, making this a convenient spot to grab a meal while charging your EV. Pro tip -- Public transit options to this area are somewhat limited, so driving is likely the easiest way to get there.

Northern Virginia's Hidden Gem for Korean-Chinese Cuisine If…read moreyou haven't discovered Hao by Haoru in Chantilly yet, you're missing out on one of the most satisfying and unique dining experiences in all of Northern Virginia. This place serves Korean-Chinese cuisine -- a beloved fusion that's been popular in Korea for generations but is surprisingly hard to find done well in the DMV area -- and they absolutely nail it. Everything here is wok-fired and made fresh to order , and you can taste the difference. We started with the jajangmyeon -- thick noodles coated in a deep, savory black bean sauce -- and it was the real deal. Rich, comforting, and not overly heavy. We also tried the jjamppong (spicy seafood noodle soup), which had a beautifully complex broth with just the right level of heat that builds slowly and keeps you coming back for more. The crispy deep-fried options are golden and bursting with flavor -- we ordered the shrimp and could not stop eating them. The combo sets are a smart choice if you're visiting for the first time, letting you sample multiple dishes without the decision fatigue. The menu is a harmonious blend of bold Korean flavors intertwined with savory, umami-packed Chinese cooking -- it's the kind of food that feels both familiar and exciting at the same time. The space is casual and welcoming, service is friendly and efficient, and the prices are very reasonable for the portion sizes and quality you're getting. Whether you're a longtime fan of Korean-Chinese food or trying it for the very first time, Hao by Haoru is the place to go. Easily one of the best restaurants in the Chantilly area.
