We were on 3 way and confirmed the in network provider at this office would see my mother Kelly on December 4th. 2025, couldn't make that apt so we rescheduled for the 11 of Dec. cleaning was OK. 2 days later my mom swallows her tooth and I take her back to make sure it's nothing serious since they did the x rays and nothing was out of the ordinary. They said she needs a root canal.. it happens I guess but I took care of that separately since they didn't care to find one in network. They just did random referrals for a specialist and told us to come back to do the crown Jan 7. Scheduled for that timing assuming the root canal was going to be done before January 7 2026. Whatever. Yesterday I get a call from Beatrice. NOT BEFORE YESTERDAY OR ANY DAY BEFORE YESTERDAY OR AFTER MY MOM RECEIVED CLEANING SERVICES, about my moms insurance not covering the crown or her bridge which I wasn't to concerned about about since we are focused on the root canal and the future crown placement. She then goes over payment options which I told her I'm not interested in then says her insurance also didn't cover her cleaning so you have to pay that. I was confused because don't you get important notice BEFORE YOU ARE EVEN SEEN OR SCHEDULED TO BE SEEN BY A PROVIDER?! Mind you they had 2 weeks to do so before we went in for the cleaning. If the apt was never made for jan 7, when would we have gotten notice of the insurance "denying" the cleaning services on Dec 11? Did it not concern anybody at all regarding how Kelly was able to be scheduled,seen, and just walk in and out without "verifying" insurance first? NOT sure if Beatrice suffers from short term memory loss, maybe she does. Or (DIDN'T CARE ENOUGH) to re check the exact provider in network who did the services for my mother Kelly on December 11, as well as how to properly do her job and make it make sense before even calling me to her threatening to send the bill on my mothers name to collections if I didn't pay. I had to do her job for her and call Humana, do a 3 way and Beatrice was even rude to Alexia who was trying to help Beatrice understand why she's wrong TURNS OUT BEATRICE OVERLOOKED THE PROVIDER WHO DID THE CLEANING SERVICES FOR MY MOTHER AND BILLED HER UNDER A DIFFERENT PROVIDER and needs to submit a new claim with the PROPER MPI # AND THE PROPER PROVIDER. At this point Beatrice cared more about Humana spreading "misinformation" saying how they need to be trained, and not taking responsibility for lack of knowledge. Blaming it on them as the reason why my mother wasn't approved when asked by alexia if Beatrice even called to insure nothing was overlooked. No remorse she hangs up on Alexia after she got exhausted listening to how she could help my epileptic mother who is incapable, to resubmit the proper MPI# AND THE PROPER PROVIDER and forms to ensure that my mother, MY SICK MOTHER doesn't get stuck with this outlandish bill. No double checking no reconfirming. No call afterwards to reaffirm the miscommunication. Beatrice immediate response was "ok I'll send it to collections then" as a result of a lazy broad overlooking a simple task. Did nobody go oh let's double check the provider she saw to make sure we didn't bill her under a different provider? I guess time will tell since all my mom has is me to make sure she doesn't get screwed off by grand smile dental of Maspeth. I doubt it's a genuine mistake. Honestly, this sounds like they probably have done this "mishap" before and left it at that. Who knows if someone was left confused in the same situation and had nobody like me to do their job for them or even ask the proper questions and come to an understanding... She came in after the panoramic and told me that I had a severe infection and needed to see an endodontist immediately, and that I may lose four of my top teeth on the left side due to the infection. Mind you at my age of 59 I've only ever had one filling and one cavity in my entire life for this to be happening seem unreal, I questioned how this could've happened I did not get an answer- so I went to the endodontist she referred me to who was absolutely terrible. no bedside manner, no gentleness (when he asked me if I was in pain and I told him yes he just continued right on working ). I asked him how this could've happened (with my husband standing next to me) and all he did was make a face and shrugged his shoulders. I had paid Dr. Ballard for a root canal and now this endodontist had to perform a second root canal n the same tooth which cost me over $1400 out of pocket. He only put in a temporary filling, advising me to go back to my dentist for permanent filling. when I called to make an appointment I was told I had to wait till until after New Year for that appointment this situation was something that it happened early to mid December. I had a surgery planned for the end of December so I could not have any kind of dental work performed three weeks prior and now I have to wait till three weeks later to have it completed I can't believe she wouldn't fit me in! when I wrote an email to her practice. I literally got a call the next day saying how upset they were that I would question another doctor about Dr. Ballard's treatment. Can you believe it - how upset they were?? I have every right to do so being (told that I may lose four teeth due to an infection without being told how the infection could've possibly happened), but since I still had pain on a tooth that had a root canal, it leads me to believe that something was missed. Well, after I was told this was slander in writing by Dr Ballard, and I was immediately dismissed from her care as she felt we were not compatible. when everything was going well We were perfectly compatible for the longest time. As soon as I question something all of a sudden we are no longer compatible, interesting isn't it? - no problem. Plenty of other dentists out there. As far as slander I'm amazed that she would use this terminology. Maybe she should look up the definition. I made absolutely no false statements against her to anyone . I simply questioned her and the specialist she sent me to. Obviously, she had no concern for my anxiety of having been told I may need four teeth, pulled, and implants placed.

I have been accidentally prodded and even cut on the side of my mouth here unfortunately. I will also say that the decor needs to be completely thrown out in the waiting room because the chairs literally look like they have wet mold spots on them and it's very unappealing to sit on. Other then that the staff makes up for a lot of these short comings but be aware there are other dentists in the area that also take a broader range of insurances

Today I was told it's uncertain who called me, but there's availability at 9 am on May 2, 2026. I was also told that this review has been seen and it's not thought to be discrimination. I'd like to make it clear there's many types of discrimination in the medical field; systemic or interpersonal. In my case, it's interpersonal. This review will not be removed until the situation is corrected. A partial definition of interpersonal discrimination is unfair treatment, disrespect, micro aggressions, macro aggressions, poor communication, biases, and differential treatment between the patient and healthcare providers or staff. In this case, it's between a patient and staff. In the summer of 2025, I completed the first visit. The apron/vest (I'm not sure of the correct term), was not placed on me during x-rays until I requested it. This was on a Saturday. The woman who completed the x-rays seemed to be more distracted by something else at the moment. After scheduling a follow up appointment, I asked does this office accept pediatric patients? My daughter was three years old at the time. I was told yes but since He is so young, there's not much to do except to brush His teeth (he's a she but ok; I took her elsewhere) The practice engages in discrimination; be careful if you're a person of color. The dentists and dentist assistants are not discriminatory, they're wonderful. But the receptionists are discriminatory and lie a lot. Because of the treatment, I'll finish my root canal treatment and look for a dentist elsewhere. Last year, I came for a second opinion on a root canal. It was scheduled. They never told me the insurance denied it. The insurance did. This year I decided to go back. It's close to my home and business. A fear of dentists kept me away. They scheduled the appointment. I gave them an updated insurance card. They pretended to place it in my file. I called weekly to ask if it Emblem Health approved it because the insurance said they didn't receive it. Weekly responses from the receptionists were, not yet or let me ask the billing department. I had to go in person after calling six weeks straight for them to submit it to Health First. Even then, I had to show up in person while placed on hold; that's when I was partially assisted. The day of the root canal (March 12), I was told that there wasn't an Emblem Health Insurance Card on file. After weeks of me calling and one visit, I was told that. Why is it discrimination? After research and an investigation of my own with the assistance of an outside agency, I have found that this treatment is most common towards blacks/African Americans from this practice; specifically the receptionists (as stated before, the dentists and dental assistants have not treated others this way). I paid $515 out of pocket because the root canal was needed. I have not received a refund. If I didn't have the money, my health would have become worse. I was then told my next appointment is April 17. I received a call on the 26th of March saying my appointment is March 27 at 10am and I was mistaken. Gaslighting? Misinformation? I'll attach the card. The dentist also told the receptionist to schedule an appointment for the weekend of April 4, 2026. She said there's a waiting list. And left it at that. I'll keep calling and visiting in person until I get the appointment for the crown.
