FIVE STARS (for the therapist only) I'm extremely disappointed with my experience at the Massage Envy in Milford, CT -- specifically with how the front desk and membership policies are handled. First and foremost, my therapist Joan is absolutely amazing. She is kind, professional, and truly talented at what she does. I will genuinely miss my sessions with her, and it's unfortunate that situations like this hurt therapists who are doing everything right. Due to a financial hardship following a car accident (which is also the reason I've been receiving massage therapy), I needed to reduce my membership. I was told I could place my account on a 3-month freeze and still use my accrued sessions by paying $20 instead of the regular $80. I agreed. Because it's so close to the holidays and money is tight, my card didn't go through when they attempted to charge me a second time in the same month. When I called to understand why, I was told the $20 charge on 12/14 applied to November, and now another $20 was being charged on 12/22 for December. While I can understand the explanation, it does not change the reality that I simply don't have extra funds available right now. I asked if I could cancel my membership and be reimbursed for the services I've already paid for. I was then told my account is on suspension and that nothing can be done until I pay the additional $20. So essentially, I'm being told that to access or recover services and funds I've already purchased, I must first pay more money toward an account I'm trying to cancel. To make matters worse, the manager was not in today. The front desk associate told me she would send an email explaining the situation and that the manager would call me tomorrow. How is it that there is not a manager readily available, the way there is at virtually any retail or service-based business -- especially when dealing with billing disputes and hardship situations like this? This entire experience has been absolutely ridiculous, inflexible, and incredibly frustrating. The lack of compassion and proper management completely overshadows the quality of the actual massage services. Experiences like this drive loyal clients away and unfairly impact the therapists who work so hard and genuinely care about their clients. read more

Be aware that this business requires 24 hour notice of cancellation, or else they charge you-- with no exceptions for illness!! And they don't tell you about that policy when you book a massage with them. I'll go someplace with a little more flexibility for illness, and respect for their own therapists-- whom they should want to protect from customers coming in sick because they don't want to pay for an entire massage without getting one. read more

Massage Envy is my go to massage chain. One of my favorite locations in CT is the Milford office. Why? Because of the exceptional service, which includes the front desk staff, especially Caitlin. She has assisted me with booking appointments, updating payment information, rescheduling appointments and is overall amazing in the over seven plus years I have been a member. When selecting a therapist, you won't go wrong here. I highly recommend visiting if you are in pain, are in training for an event or if you need to destress. read more

I used to work at a spa as a receptionist, so I have received a lot of massages in the past. I have also visited many different places aside from where I used to work, including other Massage Envys in other states. So, my review is coming from someone with experience. First and foremost, I LOVED my experience here. I got a gift card for being part of a wedding, and I was randomly paired with Melonie. I know this will sound corny, but it changed my life. I have always had hip and neck pain, and I did chiropractic therapy for years. I had no intention of joining, but after one massage with Melonie, it helped so much that I decided I needed to make this happen once a month. The prices are incredibly low when you are a member compared to everywhere else, and the atmosphere is lovely. It is so peaceful. The receptionists really work with you to make an appointment happen, even if you have a crazy schedule like I do. Melonie is truly a miracle worker. I am a teacher, and after a few sessions, major grading didn't hurt my neck anymore. Not only did I look forward to seeing her because she is so nice and friendly, but her knowledge and expertise makes for an amazing experience that I got every time. She customized each session to what I needed. The most impressive thing about her is that she can find my pain in 2 seconds flat, and not only that, she can fix it. It's phenomenal. Her knowledge of the human body and muscle structure really makes her stand out. I am sad that I cannot continue to go to Massage Envy because I have a new baby and I work 6 days a week, so things are a bit too hectic right now. But as soon as life calms down a bit, I will be right back there asking for Melonie! I highly recommend becoming a member, you will not regret it and you will be doing good for yourself. Hmmmm there used to be a lot better massage therapists but right now they aren't bad, more average. The tranquility room behind the front looks like the waiting room for a drs office. The hallways get a bit noisy during your massage. All these things though and I'd still go back. They always ask if you want enhancements or extras but I don't think they're worth it, I've had the scrub before. read more

He rocked my 60min massage and applied enough pressure (typically not the case for me). He had a soft voice and talked only when I wanted to. First I want to say I have had many massages in my life from every level of therapist there is, what I love most about massage envy Milford is the level of professionalism every staff member have. My main massage therapists are Hurley and Steven since I like deep tissue. The front staff is always friendly and accommodating. I called one day to book a last minute appointment and Caitlin recommended Mikey knowing my history with back pain, I was not disappointed! I try to go here twice a month. My massage therapist Anthony is amazing. I always go in there in stiff and achy and leave feeling great! He has a great personality and is great with his customers. I with the rest of the staff there were like him, but sadly they are not. I had recent encounter, which I was not going to mention. However, A family member who is a new Massage Envy member also had a bad experience with the owner as well. So she will be cancelling her membership. Apparently, from what I hear, the owner seems to think that it is okay to talk negatively about their members to other members. Therefore, I will not in good faith recommend people to go here. It is very sad, because I liked my massage therapist a lot. Thankfully this location is a franchise and not company owned. That being said, there are other great locations in Connecticut such as Hamden, and Fairfield of which are very good. My advice, if you are a member, you can go to any location try one of the others in Connecticut. read more

Not what I was looking for. I went there twice because they were the only place open late. I thought it was great that I could have a good massage after work to relax. When I went in the first time, I had to fill out some form which is fine. And I had to point out where on my body bothers me and how strong I'd like the massage to be on the form. i didn't mind to do that if the massage therapist did read the form because the massage was not strong enough and not forced on the part which bothered me most. And, I had a male massage therapist which I didn't mind at all because I thought he would be strong enough. What a disappointment again. And when I was face up at the end of massage, he rolled his arms around the top of my shoulder passed though my face, and the arm hair just too much to handle on my face. I did not want some man's arm hair touch my face again and again. However, I gave it a 2nd try. I got a male therapist again. This time was a younger guy. I thought maybe last time the guy was too old (well...he was in his 40s), and this younger guy (in his 20s) could be very strong. OMG. He was even lighter than the old male therapist. i did not feel a thing and just felt like someone had touch all over you. And seems like they went to the same school because whatever they did was same from beginning to end. I also notice when they say 1 hour massage it actually means 45 mins. There is 15 mins preparation time~!! What do you need to prepare for 15 mins~~!?? and customer have to give 20% of tip?? Even for a bad job?? No, thanks. Never go back there. read more

Stay away! The massages are terrible! Either you don't get enough pressure or there is so much you can't move the next week! Staff are just unfriendly and rude! I was sitting waiting for an appointment and they were sitting behind the desk talking bad about customers!! So unprofessional! Just had my second massage at Massage Envy and I love this place. From the moment you walk in you are greeted by a friendly and upbeat team at the front desk. They take the time to confirm what type of massage you want and truly care. They listen. The front staff make it clear that massage requires two way communication and that I can tell my therapist what I like, do not like, etc. The massage was flawless. Seth was my massage therapist and he was exceptional. He confirmed a deep tissue massage and delivered. His intuitive sense was outstanding. The rooms are impeccable. I came in for a massage for my first time at this location last week and I was instantly impressed by the professionalism of the staff and cleanliness of the salon. I made my appointment spontaneously when I was shopping in the area. The girl who helped book my appointment was super help and friendly. She spent a quite amount of time looking for the best appointment to fit my busy schedule. When I came back for my massage, the same girl was working the front desk. Her name was Val. Again, she was pleasant, helpful and very sweet. The masseuse was great. My massage was just what I needed after this stressful holiday season. I wanted to treat myself to my very first facial but I didn't have that much spending money so I chose Massage Envy because at $59.00 for an hour it is cheaper than the others. Upon arrival I had to fill out several forms about my skin type and received a heads up about what is going to happen during the session which was nice. Then they casually mention the membership to me and I felt no pressure. In I go to the relaxation room which was very serene! About 5 minutes later Rita comes to get me and we start our facial. She was really nice, didnt push conversations at all but she was a little unprofessional. Unprofessional in the sense that she got cream in my eye and upon departure I still had clumps of lotion in my ears. Another thing that annoyed me was she mentioned the membership and tried to push it on me- that I did not appreciate. Also, on my way out I felt pressured by several employees to get the membership!!! Not cool. I also broke out a couple hours later, and I've never broken out before! Went to Massage Envy for a facial, so this review will be based on that experience. I tried to request an appointment online, and received notification via email that someone would contact me shortly, however a day went by with no contact, so I called them. They did have availability for when I wanted, and were very apologetic about not contacting me. Upon entering, I was greeted promptly and handed my paperwork to complete. After I was done with that, the receptionist sat down with me and went over my paperwork and gave me a rundown on what to expect (have had facials before and none of this was out of the ordinary). I was led back to the waiting area, which was dark with "mood" music. I was only there for about a minute, before my aesthetician (Elaine) came to get me. She led me to the treatment room, which was very clean. After I was all set, she came in and chatted with me about all of my skin issues, asking me lots of questions and then telling me what she thought would work best. Some people may like complete silence during a facial so that you can really enjoy it and relax, however, I prefer some chatting so that there is a better understanding of what is happening, what the best course of action is, etc. Not to say though that there weren't quiet/relaxing moments. The facial lasted just under an hour and my skin looked/felt wonderful. They have four different facials that they can offer, all using Murad products. When I was done, Elaine walked me up front and showed me the products that she recommended (she did say that I could consider them when my current products run out, which was nice, as I didn't feel pressured) and when to use them. I did end up purchasing a membership, as Elaine recommended a facial every 4-6 weeks and I felt that it was a really good deal. I am marking the $$$ as pricey, as without a membership the facial is $118, but with the membership it is only $59. I did not feel pressured into purchasing the membership either. One good thing with the membership is that it can be used at any location, so if we are traveling to where there is one nearby, I can go there if necessary. I love this place. I've been here at least 5 times and my massages have always been very good. Today I had David and he was wonderful- worked on all of the knots in my back and legs. Nick is also very talented. My mom's favorite Massage therapist is Ellen. Let them know if you want a relaxing massage, deep tissue or other specialty when you make an appointment. My mom has a membership and she is able to transfer a session for me to use when I am in town- there is a $10 fee for that but it is so worth it. This location is great. I'm not sure why people aren't rating them better, but it seems they are complaining about the cost. The cost isn't bad at all for members, and at the end of the day, massages are luxuries, not necessities...if you're looking for a one time dollar menu priced massage...then you're in the wrong place. The non member prices def suck, but if you go on the monthly membership, the prices are comparable. I've seen them lower if you'll go to someone's house studio, or higher if you go to a formal spa, like Saybrook Point Inn or Waters Edge...but if you're looking to get a good massage monthly for an affordable rate, then sign up here. The staff here is friendly and attentive. This location is very clean. My husband and I always go for the couple's massages and we found two great girls that we use every time, Melissa and Merillia (not sure if that's spelt right but she rocks regardless). We have to coordinate with their schedules which can be a pain sometimes, but it's worth the wait b/c we can always rely on the fact that they know what we like for our massages and we will leave happy. My best advice is to go a few times and switch up the people until you find someone you're really happy with, and then start making appointments with them. That's what we did and we always have a no hassle, enjoyable experience. Also, they put a convenient tipping sign out for what you "would have" paid somewhere else and suggest you pay those tip prices. I ignore this sign. I give the girls $10-15 extra for the hour and $15-20 for an hour and a half massage, which is 20-30% gratuity of what I pay for my membership. read more

New to the area, needed a good massage after my move. The girls at the front desk are really nice, but everything is scripted and too nice, like Stepford Wives type of over the top politeness. My massage though was great! Just what I needed. It was with Jill, who did the perfect job, except she she needs a customer service lesson. A combo of the front desk girls and herself would be great. Again, the massage was good deep pressure like I wanted, but it seemed like she didn't want to be there, or didn't like me, or both. Massage Envy is a little retreat from the craziness of society. When you walk in, the staff are super friendly and appears very calm. You are ushered to the relaxation room where calming music is playing. You are welcome to infused waters as you wait on your person. The rooms are very clean. It has a calming and relaxing feeling to each one of them. The staff just doesn't jump right in to the service. They ask you questions and find out your trouble areas or concerns before starting. I love going to Anthony the massage therapist. He is awesome and knows what he is doing. I feel like butter (relaxed) after each massage. read more

Amazing! I received a gift card to Massage Envy and decided to try it one weekend. They have a really nice way to request appointments online where you can fill out your preferences and they match you to a therapist. To my surprise, they had an available appointment the same day that I requested. When you arrive at ME, they have you confirm a few details on an iPad and it makes the whole process easier, and much of it is already filled out from what you entered online. I didn't wait more than five minutes after checking in. The therapist who worked with me, Dee, was excellent! She talked with me before my massage to discuss my preferences and let me know what to expect. So relaxing! I highly recommend adding aroma therapy. You get to keep whatever is left in the little bottle of aromatherapy lotion that they prepare for your massage. read more

The employees at the Milford location are always extremely friendly and welcoming. They care about how you're feeling--It makes me feel good about being there! Caitlin is very professional and is great at answering any questions I may have regarding products, therapist, techniques, stretch vs massage, differences in facials, etc. I signed up for my membership with Caitlin and she explained the entire membership with me in full detail. She has always been incredible at helping me find a therapist and/or esthetician who matches what I am looking for too. She asks the right questions in order to pair me with the correct person. She is honest about each individuals technique, which is incredibly helpful! I highly recommend visiting this location! read more

Massage Envy has an innovative business model for massage: it charges $59/month (this may have gone up recently) for membership (you get one massage a month for this) and you get subsequent massages each month for $49. If you are a heavy consumer of massage this is a great way to get them. In theory. I was a member of Massage Envy in Milford for two years. During that time I had my watch stolen after mistakenly leaving it there (value $1700) and I had an inappropriate experience with a male massage therapist which I never reported because I was afraid of him. I called it quits after that. I am giving two stars instead of 1 because I had the occasional good massage. It's kind of telling that I couldn't keep track of who the good people were, though. In general it feels like the therapists have high turnover and many are phoning it in. There is a lot of pressure to up-sell services it seems. Now I go to a tiny place called "Massage Savvy" off exit 57 in Guilford -- a schlep but well worth it if you are looking for massages in this price point that come with integrity and caring. And they do not charge a monthly fee in order to get the very same pricing that Massage Envy charges members. I have written a review of Massage Savvy on their own page. read more

$100.00 for a rushed, fast, cheap massage. Not even sure my massage therapist had a license. They advertise massages as 1 hour, however, it ends up being only 50 minutes. They claim you need 5 minutes to undress and 5 minutes to re-dress, I don't need 10 minutes. For the price, I'll go elsewhere. I've been to Massage Envy's and various spas all over the country; and I can say hands down, Milford is the best location. First, the role of front-end staff is never to be underestimated and the Milford Massage Envy staff is consistently top-notch. They're helpful, accommodating, and you aren't on the phone on hold or sent over to a voicemail, like in so many Massage Envy's (I'm looking at you, Fairfield, CT.) In terms of massages... I've had hundreds in the course of my life...Joe is the absolute best massage therapist I've ever had. (And this is NOT an overstatement.) Joe listens to exactly what my needs are, and not only does he find the exact trigger points I require, his pressure is firm but not painful, and I always leave feeling better than when I went in. Always. In addition, sometimes a client will have therapists who are chatty and ask questions unrelated to the massage...that is NEVER Joe. In closing, I can't say enough about my experience with Massage Envy of Milford and Joe. I don't know what therapists or front end staff are paid at Massage Envy, but I will say from my experience at various locations, the turnover rate has been high at a number of the locations I've been to. I hope Milford ME retains Joe and this front end staff (looking at you Brittany and Kaitlynn (sp?) and the other employees, for a LONG LONG time to come! read more

Feels like a Scam / Worst ever customer service. I fully feel that this company makes a great profit at selling coupons aka "memberships" for $50 which expire within 3 months, and if not used NO REFUNDS, NO PRODUCT, NOT THEIR PROBLEM and you're $$$ is just a donation at that point for a vague "membership". Read the fine print, consumer beware. On a side note, do yourself a favor and find a credible masseuse. If they don't have documentation for earning a certification in that field visible you're putting your own health and well-being at risk. I don't remember ever seeing any certificates on the walls. I will definitely not be returning to this place. I'll be on the lookout for a good local owned salon instead, since I'd rather invest in small business instead of these big corporate franchise chains. read more
