This experience was not what it was hyped up to be. For what was supposed to be a 90 minute massage the massage was only 60 minutes. When I explained this afterward, the receptionist seemed mad. They went in to "check" the clocks and report that the clock had just been "off"- it wasn't since I checked my own cell clock as well. There are also several signs that recommend the amount to give as a tip. To me, this is a red flag that the masseuses aren't paid enough. The massage itself was not good. At several times I was hurt- it felt like I was getting a massage from an inexperienced masseuse. Her hands were freezing the entire time. The last 15 minutes were relaxing, but the first 35 were not. Afterward, there was no form to review the massage. read more

Stay far away from this place. Massage Envy used my debit card they had on file to make withdrawals out of my bank account that were not authorized. Random charges of 30.00, 60.00 and a 120.00 charges all done on different day in a month. I called to see why this was happening and nobody knew a thing. No one could give me an explanation. I was told to call me my bank for a refund?? I asked to speak with a manager and they kept saying someone would call me which they never did. Put me on hold for 20 minutes one time and then said no one was available. After a week of trying to get someone on the phone I gave up and went into the office in person. The manager that was there said she didn't know anything about this and I would have to wait to see another manager. I said NO, we are going to fix this now. All of a sudden when she looked at the computer she said"oh this was fixed, the staff has been trying to reach you". Lie. I said give me a receipt of my account being credited. The lady/manager went in at that exact moment and credited my account. This place is Hella shady. Trying to end my membership but no one answers the phone or Responds to email. read more

This place is worth the travel, the time, and the money. I began with a massage therapist a few months ago for deep tissue, and she was great. But I tried a new therapist, due to schedule. She is fantastic. I have been dealing with a bad lower back for years, muscular not spinal. Between working out, and stress which my Doctor said I hold in my back, this has helped tremendously. I would recommend this place highly, and ask to see Jocelyn. She is fantastic. You may want to not do deep tissue at first until you are ready, she is excellent at deeeeeep tissue and you get what you ask for. She is polite, professional, and has a great repoire with her clients. The ladies at the front desk are very welcoming. To all the negative reviews, thanks for leaving the schedule times open for me. I have been a client of Amanda's for about 2 years now. I sadly have to end my membership due to a move, but I highly recommend going to her for any of your skincare needs. Amanda was consistent, professional, and easy to talk to. Our monthly appointments became more like a visit with a friend while also getting an exceptional facial or microdermabrasion treatment. I've been visiting this location for three years since I moved here. I already had a membership from the previous state I lived in, and it has carried over with no problems. Unlike some of the other reviewers, I have never had any issues making an appointment, even on short notice. Once (in three years) my therapist called out sick and I was placed with another, equal competent person. My therapist also had a baby this year and was gone for several months, but made sure to recommend me other therapists who were also great. I've seen about seven different therapists in the three years for one reason or another and all of them have done a good job. I wish ME provided a little more transparency about prices and how much the therapists actually get paid, but I do not find it strange that you are prompted to tip. Classy people know you should tip 15-20 percent even to independent therapists, provided the service is good. The biggest problem I have with this location is with the other customers, who often talk on their cell phones in the "quiet room" and are otherwise a nuisance. read more

This is a great ONE time thing. DO NOT get a membership as you WILL get locked in for a whole year. The so-called "exception" does NOT let you out because you must provide a doctors note specifically stating YOU CAN"T get a massage EVER, or you still have to pay. The second reason is that its $59/month for 12 months, and you can pay that without a memebership whenever, and do NOT count on a "full" hour, as they only actually do it for 40 minutes. Both times I went it was exactly 40 minutes, and now I have to keep paying because my note was not sufficient. RUN from them and if you get a discount, youre better off going somewhere else anyways. I was suckered in and bought a membership. I've had two facials. the first one was part nof the "intro package". it was awful. I decied to try a facial one more time. I had one on Sunday and my face is red and itchy ever since I left the place. I never have acne and the woman even commented that I didn't need any extractions but that didn't keep her from picking at my face. I can't believe how sore my face is today. At work today someone asked me how I got so sunburned!!! The massage therapists are okay. I haven't had one therapist that I would book for a second appointment. AS someone said in an earlier post, if something seems too good to be true it is. save your money and go to a spa. This place is a mass production line. read more

I have been a member here for a year now and I love this Massage Envy location. I started out going for the first-time promo ($39) massage and was totally hooked. I was sure to explain when I booked what type of massage I wanted, and the receptionist assured me she knew just the right person. She was absolutely spot-on. I have now seen several massage therapists (my favorite had to leave due to a wrist injury, oh no!). I have gotten great massages from at least 4 therapists. I did have one who was just okay because she did not give a deep enough massage for my taste. The staff is always pleasant and professional. The massages are first-rate. I went to the Saugus, MA franchise on Saturday and had an appointment for a 1 hour deep tissue massage and a foot scrub. I was truly disappointed. No ambience, I had to ask for the relaxing music to be on, it was just a dark room and that's it, yuck!! The massage therapist spent at least half the time massaging my shoulders, over and over again to where it was annoying, and then continued to my arms and legs which not much time was spent on at all. I even told her I had a pulled muscle in my back that was sore and thought she would really work on that, but it was so quick it did not help at all. She did the back of my legs not the front and was not very thorough at all and not enjoyable. A very disappointing massage!! I also added the foot scrub as an extra and that was included in my hour which should have been after the fact and all it was a sugar scrub put on and washed off which I do for myself all the time. I was given a gift card for my massage for 120.00 and someone spent a lot of money on this and it definitely was not worth it. I would not recommend this place to anyone :( read more

Hello, just wanted to make some comments regarding the appt i had on July 8th. i was given a gift at my baby shower to enjoy myself before the birth of my child. i was able to get an appoitment fairly quick which was great. Upon arrival the front desk was very nice and kind. i was set up for a facial and a prenatel massage. the massage was first and it started with regualr chit chat which was fine but then it continued into the employees personal life, her children, nieces, love for wonder women etc.and the one sided talking never ended it had the be the most unrelaxing massage i have ever had. Now comes the facial in which i figured would finally be the time to relax and enjoy myself, same regualar chit chat in the beggining which again is perfectly fine. Just about 10 minutes in i hear the employee say "so i dont want to freak you out but i feel a presence in the room did you have a family memeber that died?" then she went on about how she sees spirits and asked me multiple personal questions about the recently departed which was amazingly upseting and uncomfortable and inaccurate to be honest and again not relaxing at all which was such a dissapoitment because this was something i felt like i really needed for myself. So after 2hrs and $190.00 later i left more stressed than when i came in and was pretty upset about it because it felt like a waste of time and money, I would suggest to your employees to perhaps try and limit the personal information or the over sharing of words and realize most customers are there to relax and pamper themselves not to hear about your life and their late family memeber which again was so uncontrolably upsetting. read more

I really dont know where to start... I happily joined massage envy in Saugus, MA back in 2012, during that year I was only able to get a massage the 1st day. They were never able to find my account anyways A year later I went to a diff. location to cancel they said they did then I realized that my account was still being charged througout all of 2013! then I complaint to 3 different locations. I was told that I could not get a refound because they dont do refounds so they did finally cancel my membership and gave me 2 months to finish using my 11-12 massages that I had paid for!!! 12 massages to which I could only use 4 because I ran out of time and after those 2 months I was not able to use them again those are 8 massages they charged me for that I could not use.. services that I shouldnt have been charged in the begining because I had canceled my membership a year ago. I am losing $400 of services here because when thou it was not my fault that they hire incompetent people to work at their facilities I was still not able to get those services as gift cards to transfter to other ppeople or to use i a future.. the manager in Saugus, MA technically was forcing me to use couples massages or get 2 hrs massage and facil so I could use all of the 12 services I have paid for before I ran out of time. For personal reasons I couldnt use the massages during the 2 period time they gave me. I just dont think it is fair that I losing my money and I was not able to fully get the services I paid for even when It was not my fault but theirs what happened to my account. read more

I have had many amazing massages in my days however this was not one! I was in the area so I decided to give this place a try and the intro price is good. I asked for a deep tissue massage as I always get and was so so disappointed. I am someone who is bad at saying how I am feeling during massages but I was in so much pain for the entire hour. I have been getting massage therapy for years, and have worked with many wonderful practitioners. I had a first massage with Assia at the ME Saugus site, and was absolutely thrilled with the care and quality of her body work. She is intuitive, extremely very professional and personable, and strong. I generally like deep tissue work, and she got right in there and found every trigger point, and patiently worked each area until it released. Really got my chi moving! What a great concept! Finally a place where I can afford to indulge in a massage once a month. As someone who has terribly back problems, a monthly massage was something I always needed, but never could afford. After my first visit at this location I signed up for a membership & receive at least one massage a month, it has made a huge difference! The lobby is always clean and put together. The tranquility room where you wait for your therapist is soooo relaxing. The front desk always asks if I want a glass of water & a warm neck wrap which is the perfect way to start the relaxation process. This location has over 40 different massage therapists so I usually try to see someone new every once in awhile. Noteables so far have been Yuki, Liz, and Marcel. They're so good that its really difficult to get an appointment with them! The few times I've seen someone else though, I've had no complaints! read more

I'm surprised to see negative reviews as I have never had a bad experience at the Saugus location. Everyone there is really friendly and helpful. I always make last minute appointments due to my schedule and am usually able to get in when I want. Some masseuses are better than others as happens at any place you go. I was not at all satisfied with my membership at massage envy. At first I went there because of the 39$ promo offer and I have terrible back, neck and shoulder pain. When I arrived the receptionist tried to get me to sign up for the membership, I told her I wasn't sure and I'd let her know after I had my massage. The massage therapist they set me up with was incredible. She took her time, she knew what she was doing and made me feel comfortable. When the massage was over and I was ready to pay I went to the desk. The receptionist asked me how my massage was and I told her how wonderful I felt. Of course I signed up for the membership. She told me that she just needed my debit card. I told her i was more comfortable paying in cash for each monthly visit. She assured me that my card would not be charged monthly and that I could pay in cash for the rest of my visits. My next visit was completly different. The therapist was aweful, I felt awkward because she kept looking at me during the massage and I left with back pain. When I was done with my massage I headed up to the reception desk to tell her how terrible it was and they had no sympathy for me at all. When it was time to pay she told me that they have been taking the monthly dues from my debit card! I told her how the last receptionist said it was fine for me to pay in cash every month and she looked at me like I was crazy. Every visit after that was not relaxing and I still have back pain. I believe that they set up every first timer with the best massage therapist that they have so that they will sign up for a membership. I have not recieved a good massage since day one, almost a year ago. I am so furious with massage envy and I cannot wait for my membership to be up. read more

Do not sign up for a membership with these people! they have the worse costumer service I ever experience, and they are unwilling to make exceptions on policies---no matter what is the hardship you are going through! twice they charged me when I was sick, and they took my money and I did not even get the massage! what kind of business are they running? I work for the service industry and we do we anything to keep our customers happy and we make exceptions - this is very unethical and running a business by taking people's money is stealing!!! can you imagine, they told me the only way they can cancel the account is by bringing a doctor's note? What in the world is this? I am beyond upset, these people I should take them to court! my job got reduced to 20 hrs, and as you will understand in these economic times, these people should understand my situation and make an exception....but no, they have a compolicy, and they will continue to charge my account $59.00!!! they do not care! I am a member here and the rate for members in Saugus is $39/hour for massage. Previously, I was going to an independent massage therapist for a rate of $70/hour. At Saugus, it all depends on who you are able to secure for a massage therapist. Some of them are just adequate, and some of them are much better, but none that I have been to thus far are excellent or experienced in treating muscle issues or specific areas with ART, etc. They pretty much give you a standard all body massage and some are deeper tissue than others. Plus, they really like to work on your neck a lot. My only real issue with this chain is their tipping policy. I am a generous tipper, almost always 20%. When I first started going here, I tipped a $10 bill on a 1 hour massage. At $39/hour, that's a 25% tip and I felt like I was being generous. Months later, I noticed that there were now "suggested tipping" signs in the lobby and also the waiting room. The signs suggested that you tip on the non-member 1 hour massage rate of $78/hour...or $12-16 per massage. I don't really understand this logic. I am going to Massage Envy specifically because I get a price of $39 and I have adjusted my service expectations in line with this price much the same way that I would adjust my expectations if I ordered a $9 cheeseburger from Hooters versus a $29 Kobe Beef Burger from The Capital Grille. Should I tip Hooters for the more expensive burger that I didn't get? It just doesn't make sense and I find it a form of badgering as well. read more

i have been going to massage envy now for over a year i have been on a search for a good massage therapist im on my feet all day and i realy needed someone to do a great deep tissue i had herd about this place from a neighbor and i love the introductory rate they give you so as plus i got a facial along with my service! ive never been happier i have finaly found someone one i love i would never go anywere but to elizabeth and when i had asked the receptionist who gives the best deep tissue here he said her name with out ne hessitations and he was right on point i have been so pleased with my services here and as a bonus i met ashley she is such a little doll and gives a fantatist facial my skin is flawless everytime i leave there! i signed right up the first day for there program wich i find very reasonable as we all no theres servises are not cheap $60 a month and discounted massage/facial is very affordable and keep me on a schedual of my monthy pampering! i highly recomend this place..... read more
